Looking for a Skype handset/headset solution

Anyone know if there's a good "working" handset/headset solution for SKype and Lion? I've had to throw my FR33.1 Ipevo USB phone as Lion/Skype/ipevo not playing together nicely ;-(

Just thought I would ESOP myself and offer others out there some advice . Plantronics headsets, USB, work a treat!

Looking for a skype phone that works via pc

I currently own the philips voip 321, great phone for the past couple of years, but a bit dated, basically im looking for a phone that has the same feature. I can use my computer to call somebody, and just pick up the phone and talk to them, or if somebody calls me the phone rings and i can enter pick it up using the phone or the pc.
Most of the new skype phones are just internet based without the need for computers, which is great, but i prefer the computer to phone routine, are there phones like this around?

Looking for a QT batch convert solution

I am starting to really get into IPTV. I have Nero pumping video to my ps3 then to my HDTV. The problem is there is so many feeds out there they arent all compatible. The 2 i have a issue with are m4v and mov. So im looking for a solution to just point QT or another program to a folder, check if it has any of these files in it and auto convert them to .mp4. I have program that can scan and rename all the m4v files to mp4 which lets them play, but the .mov unfortunely you cant. I have to at least pass them through QT.
Any ideas ?

Yeah: I send stuff via email and then access it through the web interface. Like I said, not ideal but I haven't come across anything else.
(Also, installing apps is out of the question for me - it's a work Blackberry, and is locked down for security reasons, so I am used to living with work-arounds).

Hi all, I have some questions and am looking for some people with a bit more experience to help me out.
I have a massive music/movie/photo//and TV show collection which is currently stored on 4 x 1tb hard drives. I use 2 of them for storage and the other 2 to back it all up. I use DeJa Vu to do daily backups and all works perfectly.
I would like more space, but more external hard drives seems silly, it takes up lots of space and you run out of ports eventually. I would like to get an external 4-8 bay enclosure to hold everything. The problem is that companies with good solutions all make you buy the drives installed at a massive markup, which is unacceptable!
Questions: if I had an 8 drive enclosure connected to my mac, would it show up as just 1 giant hard drive on my iMac? I Would like to see it as 8 drives so I can use DeJa Vu, or something like it, to do my backups and keep everything in order (And so that malfunctioning drives could be removed without destroying the entire set up.)
Any ideas on a good way to go? I could sell my 4 drives for about 400$ and am willing to invest a bit more to get set up (1.5tb drives are getting really cheap!). Any and all ideas welcome, thank you so much in advance!

Looking for a loud wired headset

I have an E71 and I like to listen to podcasts etc while on the train/plane. I find the supplied headset (HS-47) has not got enough volume to make it over background noise. I have made sure the music player is on full volume etc, but it just is not enough - particularly spoken word stuff. I need a wired headset - with a microphone - in case the phone rings!
I can see some options - WH 500 looks like a likely contender. Anyone got any suggetions - It looks like the WH 500 will need a jack plug adaptor.. which is a shame.

I'd imagine that the reason you cannot find a loud headset is because of the 100dB noise level limit in the EU (Mainly France)

The iPad does not print via Bluetooth, unless there's a third-party app somewhere that supports that (which I doubt, but I don't say anything is impossible). The iPad prints only via WiFi, and only to printers that support AirPrint or that are connected to a computer that does. If you look to the right under "more like this" you'll find other discussions on this same question, but none offer any really good solution that I have seen.

Help - Looking for Openbox or OB/Xfce solutions [SOLVED]

I'm considering dropping GNOME (again) and switching to lightweight WM (Openbox) and/or DE combo (Xfce/OpenBox). I really like how easy Openbox is to use and I've read several OB-related threads here, trying to determine how other folks optimize it, but I'm still left with questions that I can't seem to find answers to. I'm looking at using this setup on my Dell 6400 notebook which is currently a GNOME-centric desktop, with the exception of K3b, K9copy and a QT-frontend for VirtualBox.
The top 5 features I'm hoping to keep are as follows:
1. GUI-based SSH
Currently I use Nautilus to quickly browse remote servers, but is there a standalone GUI commonly used, or should I just get use to the shell?
2. Hibernate/Suspend support
In addition to basic powersaved functionality, GNOME offers options at shutdown or via gnome-panel. Does OB and/or OB/Xfce has something similar? When I tried Xfce in the past, I could never get the power management options to appear on the shutdown screen.
3. GUI-based volume management
I know Thunar can do this, but what do standalone Openbox fans use to quickly mount/unmount volumes?
4. Font hinting/antialiasing
Xfce can do this, but what about a standalone Openbox config?
5. Multimedia hotkeys
This should still work with Xmodmap, etc. but is there anything else I should know about?
If anyone can help shed some light on these topics, I would greatly appreciate it.

Since Openbox is only a window manager, it does nothing in the way of hibernation or suspension. However, as long as you have ACPI working, you can still suspend/hibernate very easily. On my laptop (macbook) I simply put an option in my menu to suspend the machine by running my suspend script (which is basically "echo mem > /sys/power/state" with some commands to load/unload necessary modules and daemons)

I know Thunar can do this, but what do standalone Openbox fans use to quickly mount/unmount volumes?
Thunar is my file manager of choice. It is lightweight, yet fully featured. I've used Thunar with Openbox for quite some time.

As mentioned above, Openbox is completely separate from your fontconfig.
5. Multimedia hotkeys
This should still work with Xmodmap, etc. but is there anything else I should know about?

When you use Openbox, and only Openbox, you start to realize that Desktop Environments add no additional functionality, only convenience. On the other hand, they can also muck things up by being proprietary and at times overly complicated. KISS.

Here start_media_date can be found with status_code=600 & end_media_date can be found with status_code=700.

Looking for a handset with certain features...

I want to replace my cordless DECT handsets (currently BT XC 200) with a new set. I have some specific requirements and having trouble searching for the specifications via shopping sites.
What I am looking for:
- 2 cordless handsets, or 1 fixed handset and 1 cordless
- DECT
- Need hands free and/or an ability to connect some sort of headset
- Dont need answer machine
- Need the ability to store long phone numbers and pauses into the phone. Looking for more than 35 numbers/codes. My XC200 does this - but the amount of numbers you can store is limited to about 20.
Its this last requirement that is tricky to search for as it is not specified on most websites.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

The SD camera line has been replaced by the PowerShot ELPH lineup. These cameras are improved in a number of important ways, such as better zoom lenses, and sensitivity to light for existing light photography.
I recommend that you consider the PowerShot ELPH 310 HS. This camera has an 8x optical zoom lens (vs. 3x for the PowerShot SD1100 IS), has a higher ISO of 3200 (vs. 1600) for low light photography and shoots video in "full" high definition (1920 x 1080 resolution) (vs. 640 x 480).
Please note: none of the cameras in this group of cameras includes the optical viewfinder you had on the PowerShot SD1100 IS,

I just upgrade to 2.0 iphone software and am looking for a good compatible headset at reasonable price.
With the 1.1.4 I was using two plantronics models. They work for a while and then start to malfunction w the iphone.Some friends dont recommend the apple headset.

Looking for Gas Mileage Template

I am new to numbers, and spread sheets in general. Is there a template for tracking gas mileage? The only one that I found (via Google) was:

The problem is that the version of Numbers that I have (3.2) says "This spreadsheet can’t be opened because it’s too old. To open it, save it with Numbers '09 first.

basically i added a chek box column for if you filled up the tank that stop or not.
I also added two other columns to track total mileage since fill up and total gallongs since fill up.
These two just look at the previous rows Check box, if it is checked (last time you filled up) it just uses the value from that row. Otherwise it takes the value from right above it (mileage looks at previous rows mileage since fillup) and adds the current rows numbers.
The MPG calculation only happens if the check box is true (checked) and then uses the Two extra column of "since fill up" to calc your MPG.

We need an SFTP client which supports logins with and without passwords for sending files to remote SFTP sites.
Up until now, we have been using a combination of Perl, Expect and sftp command but need a better solution.
Have been unable to install into Perl the SFTP modules (Lots of problems with SSHA packates) to use it directly without Expect.
I see a few (very few) commercial packages like one from tectia.com but am looking for perhaps an open source solution.

You should be able to use the scp command (which is a part of ssh client on solaris, linux or cygwin/windows) in conjunction with the key based authentication
For example, if you want a scheduled job as user1 on machine1 to be able to upload a file to a directory owned by user2 on machine2:
On machine1, run ssh-keygen as user1 to create the RSA key pair (do not enter as password .)
On machine2, as user2, cd .ssh, add user1's public key to the authorized_keys file.
e.g.
ssh-rsa dWU+bihN7kYFYoQ5ycNiIl2urtzdS5GNcCtMSz
