Looking for a USB 3.0 HUB recommendation....

I have bought at least 2 different USB 3.0 Hubs and while they work with my MBP Retina they only support devices at USB 2.0 speed.  I have converted my Time Machine to a USB 3.0 Enclosure and when connected directly to my MBP Retina I get 3.0 speeds.
The two different devices I was able to find locally both had the same problem of only supporting 2.0 speeds when connected to Mac's.  The models I bought were the Rocketfish and the Dlink.    I am worried about buying and trying others and ordering thru the mail only to get them and they have the same problem and need to go back.
If there are any recommendations or suggestions I would much appreciate them.

May want to check this out on USB 3, talks about hubs - Did the ones you buy say anything on the website about 2008 Version 1 USB 3.0 Specification? Those are the only ones supported.

  • USB 3.0 hub recommendation?

    I bought an Anker USpeed 7-port USB 3.0 hub that I thought would work great to allow me to connect 4 USB hard drives to my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) and a few other USB devices (printer, keyboard, etc). It doesn't. Unfortunately this specific hub won't power any of the USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 hard drives I have. The hub works great for every othe type of USB device.
    I'm looking for a recommendation for a new hub that would resolve this problem. Thoughts?

    One hub I can tell you does not work is the HooToo HT-UH004.
    This is a 7-port USB3 hub, that runs only at USB2 speeds on a MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina. The ports run at USB3 speeds  with other devices.

  • Looking for a good usb hub that will allow my mouse and external hard to work together

    I'm looking for some ideas for a good usb hub that will allow me to use a wireless mouse and an external hard drive at the same time, without shorting out the mouse.  The one i currently have, when I plug in just the mouse, it's fine, but as soon as i put the external hard drive into the hub port, the mouse no longer works and i have to reinstall the drivers for the mouse.

    Hubs and computers vary in their power needs, but it seems that your setup is lacking in the power department. This isn't a big deal with desktop computers, but since you use a MBP, you're going to do best with a powered USB hub.
    If you're looking for a USB hub with power supply, Belkin is generally reliable (and above average in price). But the D-Link is compact, reliable, and has a good price. Aim for a USB 3.0 hub if possible, though 2.0 will work fine with just about anything. Insist on a refund if the hub doesn't work in your system. Make sure it's compact, since you'll be carrrying it around.

  • Router/hub recommendation

    Hi all,
    I have a little Ethernet network (MacBook Pro, iBook, printer, and DSL modem) all connected through a Farallon Starlet 530/4. I've been having intermittent Internet connection problems for a few weeks (connection slows to a crawl or drops) and Earthlink is now suggesting that it may be the Ethernet hub. We've thoroughly ruled out the modem.
    At the moment the modem is plugged directly into the MacBook Pro. If that solves the problem, then I'll be looking for a new router or hub (I don't really know what the difference is). Any recommendations for a replacement? I know wireless is all the rage, but I really only need wired. I liked my old Farallon because it was completely plug and play (plugged in the cables and I was in business), no firmware, no web-based set up. And it was inexpensive and lasted 8 or 9 years.
    Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Joe

    I use the Airport Extreme(802.11n). Excellent range & never a problem. It's also piggybacking off of my Verizon router.

  • Any suggestions for what to look for in a good production monitor?

    I'm in the market for a production monitor and I'm looking at B&H's online catalogue now. Any tips on what to look for and if anyone has any recommendations or favorites? Thanks.

    it would help if you could determine a budget and then shop for models within or slightly above that budget.
    basically, some necessary items are switchable aspect ratio, underscan/overscan and then some sort of blue check for proper chroma and phase calibration. some monitors have a gray scale blue check which i think completely blows. it's better to have a monitor with viewable red, blue and green guns as the blue gun is more accurate for calibration than a grayscale blue check feature. also, there are other diagnostic functions that are viewable by using the red or green guns to view color bars.
    some other nice features to have are horizontal/vertical delay, sdi inputs, hd-sdi inputs.
    it's been mentioned in the last larry jordan newsletter than the crt monitor is going the way of the dinosaur and now sony and panasonic are marketing lcd products only. i think this is a very sad trend. as a freelance video operator/camera shader, i am of the opinion that lcd monitors are horrible; they hurt my eyes and the color rendition isn't as accurate as a crt. leitch is now manufacturing an lcd scope which is just terrible to behold. the black area of the vectorscope is a huge, amorphous blob of white light that shows no signal detail whatsoever.
    i don't know what to make of larry's statement as a quick check of the sony business website reveals only bvm crt's in their product lineup, no more pvm series. i haven't looked at the panasonic product catalog yet.
    although the sony pvm L5 that shane mentioned is a quality product, to my eyes, i would get an ikegami monitor but you'll find that the superior imaging of the ikegami also has a superior price point.
    one last point, don't buy an used monitor from ebay, you don't know where it's been or how it's been treated. give jvc monitors a fair shake as well, not a bad product for the price, no matter what their reputation is.
    good luck.

  • Looking for a Photo Printer

    Hello everyone. I am looking for a small printer that I can take with me to my photo session that can print glossy photos Something that can do the 8x10s or smaller.

    Hi again Kolourl3lind,
    Since you are looking for a compact photo printer, I recommend either the PIXMA iP100 or (maybe) the SELPHY CP900.  With the iP100, you will get better support for connecting the printer to a computer.  The CP900 is more suited for printing directly from a memory card or camera.  Both will produce excellent quality photo prints, but you are limited in size on the CP900 to around 4x6 prints.
    Of course, the PIXMA MG7120 is a good option as well.  This printer will allow you to print larger sizes and directly from a memory card.  However, it has some features you don't need (like scanning and copying) and it's definitely not as portable as the other two.
    My best suggestion is to contact our Sales Department.  Our agents will be happy to discuss the best model for your needs.

  • Passing cursor record values to procedures - looking for advice

    I frequently use cursors in my programs and need to pass the values from said cursor around in the program to other procedures/functions.  I am looking for advice on the best or recommended way of doing this.
    Currently the majority of my programs do something like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY some_pkg AS
         CURSOR some_cursor IS
              SELECT t.col1,
                               t.col2,
                              t.col3,
                   FROM some_table t;
    PROCEDURE sub_proc
         (p_cursor               IN      some_cursor%ROWTYPE)
    IS
    BEGIN
         dbms_output.put_line(p_cursor.col1);
    END sub_proc;
    PROCEDURE main_process
    IS
         l_cursor          some_cursor%ROWTYPE;
    BEGIN
         FOR l_cursor IN some_cursor LOOP
              sub_proc(l_cursor);
         END LOOP;
    END main_process;
    END some_pkg;
    Basically I create the cursor as global so I can use it's %ROWTYPE as a parameter datatype in my procedures.
    I understand there are other options such as using a defined record type, or ref cursors, but I'm not totally clear on how ref cursors would help me, I don't really understand them well.
    Can anyone provide some feedback on how I currently handle this situation vs. the alternatives?
    Thanks

    I am not sure what you need to do.
    You can base records on cursors or tables using the %ROWTYPE operator.
    Cursors can be defined in the package header and used elsewhere by using normal cursor functionality (untesed)
    create or replace package my_package as
      cursor my_cursor is
        select *
          from dual;
      my_procedure;
    end my_package;
    create or replace package body my_package as
      procedure my_procedure is
      my_record my_package.my_cursor%rowtype;
      begin
        for r in my_package.my_cursor loop
          my_record := r;
        end;
      end my_procedure;
    end my_package;
      This can allow you to define the cursor in one place and reference it elsewhere.
    Reference cursors are pointers to result sets.  They reference actual datasets and can be passed between routines if defined in package headers.  There is a little more overhead using reference cursors but they support dynamic sql if needed (it usually isn't). and you MUST carefully coordinate FETCH commands to receive the values the cursor is selecting (this is harder than it looks)(untested)
    create or replace package my_package as
      type my_refcur_type is sys_refcursor;
      my_procedure;
    end my_package;
    create or replace package body my_package as
      procedure my_procedure(p_refcur out my_package.my_refcur_type) is
      begin
        open p_refcur for 'select * from dual';
    end my_package;
    --elsewhere
    my_package.my_procedure(my_cursor);
    fetch my_cursor into v_dummy;
    Hope this helps

  • Looking for USB hub

    Hi
    I've been looking around for a decent USB 2.0 hub, one that gives at least 3-4 additional ports, but all I find are fancy looking ones that cost upwards of $30. Is that the standard for USB hubs, or are there some cheaper ones someone could point me to?
    Thanks.
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

    Richard Habiniak,
    US$30 for a quality self-powered USB 2.0 4-port hub sounds about right to me. Keep in mind that you don't necessarily want the cheapest hub you can find. Bus-powered and/or cheaply made / poorly shielded hubs can cause USB signal reflection problems, typically spurious wake-from-sleep signals but also general USB signal degradation and noise.
    Also, watch out for really cheap USB data cables --- cheap thin cables are prone to the wires breaking and are poorly shielded to where you can almost expect serious line noise crosscoupling into the cables, which can lead to the computer locking up. (Happened to me with a cheap media card reader --- the thin cheap USB cable included turned out to be why a Mac running OS 9.2.2 would lock up randomly. The fix was a better quality USB data cable that as I remember it cost about as much as the card reader did.)

  • Which usb 3 hub recommended for desktop?

    which is the best usb 3 hub recommended for desktop?

    I have a Sonnet PCi USB3 card for my MacPro, and a Sonnet USB3 Express Card 34 for my MacBookPro, and they work properly on Lion 10.7.4. However, when I use a powered four-plug USB 3 hub, the card reader that worked directly to the Sonnet cards, now is not detected when used through the hub. I think that what I need is a Hub Driver that works with Lion 10.7.4...
    I would suggest contacting Sonnet directly with that question. I spent over a year with their PCIe card trying to get it to work reliably in two Mac Pro's with 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 and never succeeded because of the drivers, which are really modified LaCie drivers. Switching to a CalDigit card solved the problem. I don't use hubs so I don't know if the CalDigit would work with them, but I suspect that adding a USB 3.0 hub to the mix would only make shaky (in my experience at least) drivers even shakier.

  • USB hub recommendation sought

    Are there any powered USB hubs anyone can recommend? Looking for something like the Belkin 6-port hub but there seem to be lots of negative reviews of that, complaining that it's not properly powered. I'd like something that has at least one or two ports on the front, and am not so keen on the tiny hubs that look a bit like crapware and often don't seem to work with external peripherals like keyboards and iPhones.
    Any suggestions?

    This Rosewill 7-Port hub has worked fine for me for the past year:
