Looking for Active Data Guard in Oracle 11g Release 2 References

I want to reach out to customers who have implemented Active Data Guard in production (preferably 11.2), so that we can develop some
customer references that in turn will benefit other customers. The customers who get selected for such references may further be selected to publish their case study directly in oracle.com and/or invited as a customer co-speaker in the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld at San Francisco (Sep 19-23, 2010). This is Bhavik Desai Oracle -DBA@Amazon. I do have couple of Active Standby running on 11gR2 On RHEL 5 64-Bit platform.
Most of the databases are reporting on (DSS Having 2-4 TB in size) having FSFO configured.

I am looking for samples/examples of Active Data Service when a server side event, like RDBMS change notification got triggered.
The ADS samples that I found so far are:

But these samples do not demonstrate how RDBMS change notification got triggered got triggered. The last two samples have a Runnable class that simulate the triggering, and the Twitter example is twitter stream notification.
Please shed some lights on Active Data Service with RDBMS change notification got triggered.

Data Guard in oracle 11G

Hi Friends,
I am new in orcle & my boss told me to configur a dataguard in oracle 11g.we have two server with same configuration. First server is primary server & second server is standby. I have created two database name as PIDB & PIHIST for RTGS system. I have gave a database name to primary server is PIHIST,PIDB & for standby PIDBSTDBY,PIHISTSTDBY, Is it right ? is it right then how i configure a dataguard?

Urgent : ORA-01426: numeric overflow on oracle 11g Active Data Guard

Hi
I have configured Active Data Guard on oracle 11g, for reporting purpose we will select mutliple querry on target side(10 users). we are getting 'numeric overflow erro'r on alert log file When we issuing multiple query on target side. PLeae let me know is this error will cause performance degrad. if it will degrade performance mean please tell me how to resolve this problem. Why the numeric overflow is comming . and it is not comming in the primary database, it is comming in standby database only. please any one help it is very urgent
is there any parameter To overcome this problme

Active Data Guard license required if using either Real-time Query or RMAN block-change tracking on a standby
Example with primary and 5 separate standby databases
S1 = physical - real-time query
S2 = physical - real-time query + RMAN block change tracking
S3 = physical - RMAN block change tracking
S4 = physical - neither real-time query nor RMAN block change tracking
S5 = logical
Active Data Guard must be licensed for primary and for S1, S2 and S3.
Active Data Guard is not relevant to logical standby

I successfully setup an Active data guard environment(11g). But, I dont know when the PROD database is highly utilize , its read only tasks like reporting and backup are doing in STANDBY. How can I know which db (prod or stand by) is used for these readonly operations ?

It is not so simple to direct reports to the Physical Standby as you seem to assume.
You need to do some work for the setup.

Using Oracle EM 11g with Active Data Guard 11g

Has anyone installed Active Data Guard 11g with OEM 11g for an active-active state or know if there are any installation procedures with these two products? We will be installing these products this year. Thanks, Cathy

If you already have both servers configured in Grid Control as targets, it should be fairly easy to create a standby database on server B. OEM has Availability tab on your primary database Instance section should have "Data Guard" section which has "Setup and Manage" option. You follow through the wizard, and it will generate a standby database on server B. Then you can convert your standby db on server B to Active Read-only database by clicking few more buttons.
If you do not have these two servers configured on your Grid Control, that would be the first task.
We set up three standby databases using Grid Control 11g in our test boxes, and they worked very well. Our biggest problem was to actually installing the Grid Control, but once installed, everything was easy.

I'm looking to setup current E-business Suite R12.1.3 application without any down time. I've Primary Data Center and Secondary Data Center. I would like to setup seamless failover to another secondary data center in case of 1st data center failure.
Can be this achieved by using Active Data guard? If not what would be best solution? In case of active data guard can I failover site to secondary data center and apply patches on primary site?
I want to acheive 100% availability of application. Any suggestions are welcome!

no, active data guard is 11gR1 new feature.
In Oracle Database 10g and below you could open the physical standby database for read-only activities (say, to offload some reporting), but only after stopping the recovery process. With these releases, If Data Guard is a part of your DR solution, you really can't afford to pause the recovery process for a long duration for fear of falling behind, so the physical standby database is essentially useless for any read-only activity.
With Oracle Database 11g, that situation changes: You can open the physical standby database in read-only mode and restart the recovery process. This means you can continue to be in sync with primary but can use the standby for reporting. (As in previous versions, you can take the backup from the standby as well.)

Looking for a Web Interface for Editing Data in an Oracle 10g Database

Greetings all!
My organization is implementing Oracle 10g Release 2 Enterprise version. We have an employee who will need to edit data in the database which will hold staff phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact information. This employee will never need to administer the database or develop tables, queries, etc. They will only need to add and remove rows of data and edit text values stored in a database table.
Does Oracle 10g have a built-in, browser-based tool that can be used to edit data in a table via a friendly user interface? If no, can you please recommend an easy to use tool for editing data in an Oracle database?

Do you know if Oracle 10g has any kind of built-in tool for editing data? I have heard of "The Vault", but that appears to be a tool for administering database users, reports, etc. I am looking for some kind of tool that shows the data in a grid layout (like Microsoft Excel) and allows someone to edit and save data in that grid. A web-based tool would be best, but a desktop tool (especially if it's already part of Oracle 10g) would also be good.

RMAN and 11g Active Data Guard

I just build my first 11g Active Data Guard . . . well the next thing to do is the RMAN part.
At this point I want to know:
A) How/What do you query to know that a log has been applied on the Standby side
B) How does RMAN know what has been applied
C) If I do the RMAN backup on the Standby side, won't there always be some difference because there is always some delay between the Primary and Standby?

I presume you mean using RMAN to delete archive logs? If the log hasnt been shipped and applied to the standby yet RMAN wont remove it, instead it outputs the following error:
RMAN-08137: WARNING: archive log not deleted as it is still needed
Until the log has been applied on the standby, this intelligence is built in at 11G (at 10G you needed an "_" parameter to get this working).

Active Data Guard VS Golden Gate

Hi Experts,
I am looking for High Availability and Disaster Recovery architecture for my data layer i.e. Oracle Database 11g R2
We have two physical locations and the distance between two sites is around 20 miles.
Site 1:
We already implemented RAC setup with two node in site 1.
Site 2:
We are going to implement standalone database. (Not RAC)
My requirements:
1. Both databases at Site 1 & Site 2 should be replica of each other.
2. Both databases should be in sync always.
3. Site 1 is active and Site 2 is stand by.
4. Client applications on Site 1 & Site 2 should always talk to RAC database on Site1.
5.. If RAC at site 1 goes down completely, then ONLY client apps should connect to Site2 database without human intervention.
How can acheive my requirement ? I was doing some research & found two solutions. 1. Active Data Guard 2. Golden Gate.
Questions:
1. Do Data Guard and Golden Gate offers same features ?
2. Which products offers solutions to all my requirements or Do I need to use both ?
3. If Data Guard and Golden Gate are different from each other then What is the difference between them and what are the overlapping features among them ?
