Looking for airport card

Hello,
I have a Harpertown Mac Pro and wanted to know why there are discrepancies between the airport cards for the 2006 and 2008 mac pros? I was on ebay and I found a slew of airport cards, but they are saying that they will only work in 2006 mac pros and not 2008 mac pros. What gives? The card looks the same, and fits exactly the same. So, why wouldn't it work in 2008 mac pros?
confused.

What you need (that would be an Apple product) has the model number: MB363Z/A. This is for the "Mac Pro Early 2008."

  • Looking for memory card(s), GPX MP3 player

I have a GPX MP3 digital player, the MW3337, and am looking for memory card(s) as it only holds 1GB.  I do not have the manual any more.  My questions are; What have you used and liked for memory cards, what will work best for this model, and any other information that is relevant to the MW3337 and memory cards.  thanks

    Hey drumset09 -
In examining this unit, it appears that any SD card or MMC card will work for this unit.  You have options up to 16 gb presently.  I would recommend whatever size will fit your needs.  There is a plethora of choices out there these days.
    I hope this helps!

  • TCP/IP settings for airport card

ok, first off...please take it easy on me...i'm a windows guy but am close to purchasing a mac for my girlfriend and also have an iPhone so please understand that i love macs, just don't know too much about them..yet
i have a need to set TCP/IP settings for an airport card when the mac connects to a specific SSID (Peanut Gang). the problem is due to the fact that when macs connect to a linksys WRE54G wireless repeater, they do not obtain the TCP/IP info. you can go into system prefs -> network and renew the lease and it obtains the info but i've been asked to "automate" this process.
ok, i'm not sure if it's possible but when i saw the "automator" section here i thought i would ask. i know how i could do it through scripting on a windows machine but i digress, ha!
    thanks

You may want to ask this over in the "Networking" group.
Also clarify whether you're having these issues with a mac you have, or just what.
Might want to specify what kind of mac is having this problem, too.
And be ready to explain just what you're asking when you say:"need to set TCP/IP settings for an airport card when the mac connects to a specific SSID"
There are some pretty good blokes in that discussion group.
    welcome

  • Looking for iPhoto card design featured on site

    Hi,
I'm looking for an iPhoto card design that is featured on the following page:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/printproducts.html
It is the red card with pictures inside the ornaments. I have iPhoto version 6.06 and it is not part of the available themes and designs. If anyone can direct me to where I can find this design, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.
    Julz05

I have it in my iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.1) card library
You are posting in the iPhoto '08 forum - maybe this is reason to upgrade to iLife '08 -- or post the question in the iPhoto 06 forum, you are much more likely to get help on version 6 in the version 6 forum

  • G4 support for Airport Card alternative?

    Hi all,
It never dawned on me that there is an alternative to Apple's Airport cards for our systems until recently. I have a G4 dual 1GHz system which houses a hookup for the original airport card; the system also has PCI slots. I have an Airport Extreme Base station and would like to restrict my frequency range to the 5 GHz ONLY (to avoid the crowding of 2.4 GHz range.) So, is it correct to say that my G4 is not tied down to the original airport card but can theoretically use "n" capable WIFI cards via on board PCI or USB? And if so, any you would recommend? Also, how's the software support for it, i.e., drivers, Airport Utility, etc. since the card would be third party and not Apples? Would I get the support from say, Airport Utility as if I had an Apple airport card in there or are there going to be compatibility issues? Many thanks!

OK, I just found this out:
    http://www.beowulf.org/archive/2001-July/004174.html
    32 bits/33 Mhz : aggregated ideal peak at 132 MB/s
    64 bits/33 Mhz : aggregated ideal peak at 264 MB/s
And that's shared between all items on the PCI bus.
It would be interesting to measure the bandwidth on the USB 2 PCI card. I've seen it vary wildly on a G4/400 Mhz Yikes, sometimes dropping to as little as USB 1.1 even with only one USB item connected on an IOGear card. I no longer have access to that machine. That's of course assuming nothing else is sharing the same bus.

  • Looking for Airport Extreme Guide....

I am looking for a guide for the Airport extreme that might go into recommended settings for different applications, IE networking with windows machines, streaming, outside access, exstending the wireless network and so on. I have read posts here and there and read through Apple's manual but I am trying to find something more indepth with recommendations... Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

  • How to install the driver for Airport card in a mini

In a post regarding trouble with wireless connections some suggested...
    cd /System/Library/Extensions
    mv IO80211Family.kext IO8021Family.1066
well I did it and now my system is telling me there is no Airport card installed. How can I reload just the Airport drivers? I have my 10.6.3 OS X disk. Can I do it with that?
I tried running Disk Permissions with no change. I have since renamed the file back to what it was. The I started getting pop ups telling me the kernel file was improperly installed.
I just don't want to reinstall my complete OS.

I've already put it back to the original file name of IO80211Family.kext. I've run disk permissions too, in fact I've run it several times.
It keeps repairing a bunch of java stuff but that's all.
I've set the permission on the file to what I believe they were before I ran the mv command.
It was after I restored the file name, that I got the popup saying it was installed incorrectly, but, it's not saying it now.
And I have rebooted too, still no Airport.
Oh, I never replaced anything with earlier version, I just renamed and renamed back.

I'm guessing the Wifi card since the E2 has BT already.
I found a few on amazon.com, but as Tribbles mentioned eBay may be the cheapest place to find one:

  • ITunes 11 hangs up on iMac looking for airport express.

Any help is appreciated, struggling with Apple issues. I have 3 airport express units set up to act as individual zones for a multi-channel amplifier in my home. The main iTunes library is housed both on my iMac running OSX Snow Leopard as well as an external network hard drive. With the latest upgrade to iTunes 11 i have noticed while directly using iTunes and through my iPad using Remote that iTunes gets lost and stops working. The screen will show that the program is trying to locate the airport express zone and you cannot close the dialogue box or close iTunes. When i view the airport utility it shows all of the airport express units functioning properly. The only way out is to manually shut down the computer and re-start. Is this an iTunes issue or possible setup issue with the airport express units. The 3 devices are in close proximity to each other feeding the amp but, functioned properly prior to the new iTunes release. Not as familiar with Apple networking and appreciate any ideas to remedy. Nothing worse than rocking out to a great tune only to have it stop mid-song with the only solution to shut down the iMac.

The same goes for iTunes 11.2.1 on 10.9.3. And it's not the first time, either. In fact, I've lost count of the number of times a software update has broken Airplay. It's immensely frustrating. If past experience is anything to go by, they'll fix it in a few months' time but until then there's nothing we can do about it. Unless someone can tell me I'm wrong?

  • Looking for Video Card

My searching through the forum answers some questions, but still wondering ...
My 450 AGP (Sawtooth) is going to get a new video card, part of an upgrading I've been doing.
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac 128mb? Will this work for my 450? I'm not understanding the 2X, 4X, 8X relevance.
Also, in the name of $$$, I've seen it posted that perhaps I could get a PC version and flash it for Mac. Is this straight away ok?
    Thanks for any insights.

    Hi-
The biggest limiting factor in upgrading the Sawtooth graphics card is the AGP bus. The Sawtooth has a 2x AGP bus, 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz doubled to an effective 133 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 533 MB/s.
A graphics card must be compatible with this speed to br used in the Sawtooth. Current AGP cards are predominately 4x and/or 8x AGP (266mhz and 533mhz respectively), and don't work at lower bus speeds.
Signaling voltage is another factor, with 2x being 3.3v, 4x being 1.5v and 8x being 0.8v. When modifying a card from PC to work in a Mac, and to make a faster card work at lower AGP speeds, some cards can have pins blanked out (taped) allowing use at the higher voltages.
The reason the 9800 Pro is so often recommended, is that it is one of very few 2x AGP compatible performance cards available. From the world of flashing, the PC version of the 9800 is one of the most easily, and succesfully converted cards. Some of the last modern cards with 3.3 V support were/are the Nvidia GeForce FX series and the ATI Radeon 9500/9700/9800(R350).
The 9800 Pro, Mac version or flashed, will work in your Sawtooth. Either way, the card is plug and play in OS X, and will provide graphics performance far beyond that of other 2x AGP compatible cards.
Often mentioned, is that the 9800 requires a 300w power supply. This may be true from a manufactures "warranty" standpoint, but the card will work fine with the Sawtooth's 237w PSU. Adding a processor upgrade (single) and up to two internal harddrives will also work within the PSU's wattage. The main enemy of all, heat is the biggest concern.
Reducing heat/increasing cooling by using a third party fan is highly recommended. The 9800 is a hot card, and the stock fan is prone to early failure. Adding additional cooling to remove the extra heat produced by the 9800, by using an exausting PCI fan, will also help the PSU provide adequate voltage to the system, by reducing the amount of hot air moving out of the PSU..

  • Looking for flash card software

    Hi,
Does anyone know of some good software to generate flashcards (preferably including some games)?  I'd like to include some flash cards in an e-lesson  - but I don't want users directed out of the lesson or away from my website - the only flash card generators I can find store the flashcards on their own websites.
    Thanks for any help.
