You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences. If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section. Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

i have done some research on the iPods, the easiest to use, which ones are best for fitness workouts, etc. I had an iPod Classic sometime ago but I ruined it because I tried to install the program it came with but it was already installed and the second install I did ruin it. At least this is what the genius bar guy said.
Anybody who knows iPods fairly well. I am new to my MacBook Pro and I would like to be able to synch the music in iTunes with the iPod for music for various activities. I also have trouble with the ear phones that come with the iPods, so I was looking at a website that had earphones ranging from $300 to $500 approx for people who have various needs in addition to using them at studios while mixing new music. I just want a pair that will stay in my odd shaped ears, have great quality, and work well with the iPods.
Any recommendations on iPod for exercise. I am not big on videos but having some good music gets me through a hard workout. One problem I have is that the genus guys could not fix the multiple setting, software, preference settings, etc. that had become corrupted in my old Mac and because several genius guys could not fix the numerous problems they gave me a new MacBook Pro. However, they recommended that since my problems were all setting, software issues and problems I have add with adding music in iTunes, that none of my pictures, music or setting be transferred to the new MBP but to start over. They did not even save any of my iTunes and pictures which I thought was odd but what could I say since they were giving me a new MBP. If anybody has a legal way of transferring from my friend;s iTunes the music he has that I can use for the yoga and mind-body classes I teach, which I am getting nervous on because I start the classes next week. I do not have the money to buy the yoga and other fitness music in hours like I use to have. My friend will let me transfer some of his music that he had from his own cds and some but few from iTunes, but that I could get them on myTunes if I could find out how to do that.
I researched that and since my friend did not care about atwork, artists of the songs on one cd, for example, the genre, tracks, artists, etc. he does have some but I would want to do the research and get the artwork and the titles of the various songs, the tracks, and all the info one gets when they transfer a new cd to iTunes. I had this problem with some of my old music but with google images, and finding the cd online I was able to get all the CDs accurate, even the double CDs that iTunes would have as one cd, but I figured out how to get them to one cd.

Any recommendations for getting this device, not hooking it up to a wireless devise but to the Time Machine. If it does not come formatted for the new MacBook Pro and is it a big deal formatting the hard drive so I would be able to start using it right out of the box. Any suggestions n the iPod, and the LaCie rugged external hard drive would be a hugh help. I cannot afford a Time Capsule right now so I though the LaCie would be the next best thing

I lost equipment due to lightening strike several years ago, which also had old equipment and was not available. I gave insurance images and provided original receipts (my purchases were made on Apple.com), and Apple provided electronic copies of the receipts. You may want to contact Apple and check, if they can provide a copy. Insurance may depreciate the original value. I was offered residual value which i used to buy newer replacements, and provided the receipts for replacements back to insurance.

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

Looking for an app for my Tour
I'm looking for an app for my tour. I own a small lawncare/landscape bus and am looking for something when i get done with a job i can pull up the clients record and just click if they have paid or were billed. And when i get checks in the mail that i can just click the same thing, that they have paid. I would really like to be able to sync it up to my wife's tour also as she handles alot of the bookwork part. Any suggestions?
I'd set up a excel worksheet that syncs with your wife's/bookkeeper's worksheet of the same name at your office. You may sync it either of a several ways - via remote central server/desktop, via hard line/wire during normal sync process or via him/her sending you the updated file and you overwriting it on your smartphone. Whenever he/she updates your AR records, you'll have the latest details results provided you update the file periodically yourself.

The most current version is pretty stable aside the Network Map App which is known to cause a router reboot. Linksys is aware of this and is working on fixing it. Just don't use this app.
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.

My current WiFi settings that are working well are Mixed Mode on both radios, Mixed Channel width on both radios, WPA2 only. Manual channel 11 on 2.4Ghz and 149 on 5Ghz. However those channels for your use will depend on whos near by your surroundings found in the InSSIDer app and you'll need to adjust accordingly to channels that are not being used which are preferred 1, 6 and 11 or (13 for out side of the north america region) on 2.4Ghz. WPS, Media Filter and IPv6 disabled. USB Drive Share, WMM and Media Prioritization enabled. LinksysSmartWiFi is enabled along with mobile access app on Iphone 4S works. -

Someday - and no one knows when that day will come - maybe all applications will be able to take advantage of the Retina display. But for the present, not many do: including all Adobe applications. There was a demo of Photoshop at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference of Photoshop running at native Retina resolutions but no one at Adobe in marketing is saying when, if or how the upgrade may be coming. It could be a week, it could be a year, it could be 2-3 years. No one knows. And only Apple app's (for the main part) are really utilizing the native Retina display.
I've seen some demos of some applications (Apple's) that take advantage of the Retina display and they're awesome. But in actually working in the here-and-now I've heard quite a few gripes, particularly on the Photoshop forum, of menus looking pixelated and/or 'blurry' so I'm not quite ready to jump into the Retina display boat just now. Don't get me wrong - others have ad are very, very pleased with their selection. But until Retina displays are available on larger monitors, the maximum work area that you're going to be able to use is 15" - and that's simply not enough room for full-blown graphic design. Then there's the cost factor - for the $4,000+ you spend for a completely full-blown Retina kit, you can get a standard MacBook Pro, 16 GB of RAM, a fast SSD and even the Apple Thunderbolt Display for the same amount.
The standard MacBook Pro isn't better than the Retina display: it's just different. And I think (and this is only my opinion - other graphic designers should feel free to jump in here) that it's the best computer that you can get for your specific purposes. And, towards that goal, I have to recommend a very good external monitor (there's nothing more annoying than having to use InDesign in a single-page mode rather than side-by-side because your monitor isn't big enough).
Remember that this is only my opinion and that others might jump in with their own. But I was in the electronic pre-press business for more years than I care to admit and we always - always - worked with at least 19" monitors (and that's back when dinosaurs actually ruled the world).
I hope that others will jump in with their comments. I'm going to follow this thread and see!
