Looking for an Earthquake, or Explosion type of transition or Video Filter

How ya doin guys?
Does anyone know what Video Filter, or transition will closely appear as an explosion? Like iMovie's 'Earthquake Transition'
I tried a few filters, and I also tried the 'Explode', and 'Implode transitions', but unfortunately nothing is as nicely done in terms of 'exploding', or 'violent movement' as the 'Earthquake Transition' in iMovie.

Hi(Bonjour)!
In FCE set in and out in timeline, to set the part to be FX'ed with explosion.
Use File-->export to livetype command and select the place where you want to save this movie.
This movie had to be imported in livetype, on the lowest track in timeline.
Start a new project in LT (with project properties similar to those in FCE).
Do Command-i to import your exported movie. Drag your movie in timeline to background portion of timeline. This procedure will allow to export your final FX movie without the movie in background.
Select object tab in media browser, and select Detonate (there are many objects and livefonts that be used to create explosion- do some experiments). You'll get a nice explosion. Tweak this "object" (size, attribute, timing, etc) and click Apply to new track button.
In the timeline of LT, place this object over your background.
When everything is adjusted, do an export movie-be sure to uncheck "render background".
Save this movie.
Now in FCE, import this FX movie and put it over your clip in timeline. Voilà, a nice explosion.

Looking for some good text effects type plugins for CS5 or CS5.5

I have a website that I am updating and I wanted to create some really cool text effects. The effects are something that I want to create in After Effects to give it the movie effect with sounds, etc.
What I'm looking for is some add-on software that can boost the text. Any ideas?

Since you're brand-new here, there's a VERY crucial question to ask: have you ever used After Effects before?
The reason: it's not the kind of application you use for a couple of tricks with and expect things to turn out right the first time. It takes a good knowledge of the AE basics to make it do what you want.
So how do you get the basics? You go here.
...and if you need this animation in a big hurry, you might want to have a Plan B ready to go.

I was thinking of the new iMac but not sure if they are powerful enough? I need something that can handle CPU intensive stuff. I will be using it mainly for video editing and music producing

Look at the new 27 inch screen iMac models.
Get the fastest optional CPU,
Decide which optional GPU you'd be comfortable with.
Get the base 8 GBs of RAM and then purchase extra, cheaper RAM through third party Mac RAM sellers.
Then add as much RAM as you think you need. The 27 inch screen models can take up to 32 GBs of RAM.
Decide on optional storage sizes.
If you need a CD / DVD optical drive, these are no longer built-in and you will need to budget for a good external optical drive.
Budget for 3-year extended AppleCare warranty service.
In case of reliability issues with the first 5 years of operational life, the iMac will be covered with free warranty service for the first three years.

Looking for a simple app to add sound to my video...

Hi,
I've been trying to find a very simple app. I want to add music (from my IPhone 4) to my own video (on my iPhone 4).
I'm pretty sure iMovie will do it, but it's 20MB and that's a lot of space for a lot of functionality that I don't want or need.
Does anyone know a basic/simple app to add sound to my video???

Looking for an application that can scroll custom text over video.

Hi, Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this - but here goes. In our school we have a display in the foyer that shows a looped quicktime video. I would very much like to scroll custom text with recent school related news in the forefront or things that parents and pupils should remember - kind of application that is always in the front - similar to the scrolling text news channels have along the bottom. Also possibly another app that would do similar thing but showing local weather. Does anybody have any suggestions. Thanks in hope.

Looking for some advice on what to do about

So I have a macbook pro - late 2007 model I guess
2.16 core duo(just before the core 2 duo's i guess)
2gig's ram
ATY,RadeonX1600 256mb
My problem itself is in 3 parts
1.) My battery fried late 2008(have it running off the adapter since) and I was wondering if my model will fit with the 2008 model batteries? If so do you know how much it would cost(cdn dollars if possible)
2.) My video card is from what I believe to be ruined/terrible shape. I've been using SMC fan control for awhile to sway the overheating, and it helps but I believe the damage was already done while I did not have it active while using my computer for games and other various things(MBP's seem to run insanely hot?)
I will be calling the apple store i bought it from tomorrow but I was looking for some advice on any type of diagnostic tests I might be able to do to test my video card as well how much would it cost to replace(assuming you can't upgrade much in a laptop)
3.) Wondering your opinion on the overall value of the computer with the replacements/without.
It appears to run perfectly fine though sometimes when program's open up I start to see tearing and pixel's looking crazy all over my screen(assuming a fried video card)

You can buy the battery design for any old MacBook Pro models (not the unibody). MacBook Pro from the first to the last generation uses the same battery. It cost $129 (not sure how much it cost in Canadian but probably a $20-$30 premium). As for your graphics card, Apple has a one price model for all hardware repairs ($310 or something around there and converted to Canadian probably around $350 to $360). I think you should get it replaced. The only test that I can think of is to re-install the OS and see if the problem occurs, if it does then its most likely a hardware issue. There is no standard test that's widely available. With the replacement I think the computer values in the range of $1800 to $1500) and without the repair I would say about $1350 to $1000 at best.

Search for material from 2 Storage types

When creating a delivery for Subcon PO Via ME2O the transfer order is created automatically from the source storage type
657 ( for example). The requirement is that the system should also look for material from source storage type 460 ( for example).
I did the following customization ( SPRO path):
1) Logistics execution -> Warehouse management -> Strategies -> Activate storage type search - > Determine search sequence --
For the combination of Warehouse number & Mvt type 541 ( GI to Subcon delivery) -- 657 and 460 are assigned.
2) Logistics execution -> Warehouse management -> Activities-> Transfers-> Define Mvt types-> For the combination of Warehouse number & Mvt type 541 -- I have assigned source storage type as 657.
With the above the system does the search from 657 stoarge type only and not from the both.
Is there any other setting to meet this requiremnet?

I removed 657 source storage type in the 541 mvt type set up ( Source storage type is Blank) . In the Movement Type set up for 541, "Ref.Stor.Type.Search" field is already with 541.
The Storage Type search sequence is maintained for the combination warehouse number & 541 mvt as 657 and 460 ( storage types).
When Delivery is created for Subcon PO, The Transfer order is not created automatcially ( Only delivery is created)
The requirement in detail is as below:
There are 2 plants ( AL70 & AL77) linked to 1 Warehouse (AL1). When delivery is created for subcon PO in plant AL70, the TO is also created automatically with source storage type as 657 and destination storage type as 916. The additional requirement is when delivery is created for Subcon PO in plant AL77, the TO aslo should be created automatically with source storage type as 460 and destination storage type as 916.

DIY'er looking for guidance with 1st major Stereo Install

Ok. So i've just bought this 05 GMC Envoy XUV. It's got the Bose stero with touch screen DVD based navigation. It sucks. Bad. There is no current Navigation DVD. It's a single disc system, so even if i had a new NAV CD I would have to remove it to listen to a CD. It just sucks. So I want to replace it. I'm looking to go with a double din touchscreen unit. I want one that has bluetooth, USB, Aux, CD/MP3 and is XM ready. Something that will work with my Iphone or my wife's Android. Something that is compatible with the Bose system, keeps my Onstar and my steering wheel controls and that won't interfere with the chime and warning systes. My local installer wants almost $800 bucks to put int a $300 unit. Seems a little steep. So, I want to do it myself. I'm a very capable mechanic and electirician but i've not had alot of experience with stero systems. So what i'm looking for is advice on what type of equipment i should be looking at. Maybe brand or model suggestions. Even a handy dandy how to guide would be nice. So. Any experts out there willing to let me bend their ear?

I am looking for a retail available camera that is compatible with FMLE. I do not have a computer with HDMI input, and in the past, I have typically ran with a USB connection. Does anyone know of a camera that is available at a local retail store that would work with FMLE through a USB connection?

Webcams will work, although they may not give you the flexibility that you're looking for with a more traditional "camera".
You may be more interested in looking at a converter/digitizer -- something that can take a variety of inputs and pull those into your computer as a a video source that your computer, and FMLE, sees as a "camera".

You'll see a variety of webcams, capture cards, cameras, and other devices that are known to work with FMLE. Most of those solutions, however, require the installation of a card or require that you have Thunderbolt connections or FireWire connections. Not on that list is the Dazzle line of digitizers. I know several people who use Dazzles with FMLE -- and while each one seems to have issues that you have to be aware of, they do work (some better than others). As long as you're aware of the issues, it's not a problem working with these devices -- and they're pretty inexpensive. The Dazzle Video Creator Platinum seems to have the least amount of problems (the only real problem that I'm aware of is that you have to be sure to disable your preview windows in FMLE if you want to make changes to the source settings -- or it will crash FMLE. But, once you get your settings in place you can enable the preview windows again and don't have to worry about it). The great thing about a digitizer is that you can now use any camera that can output to standard composite cables (the yellow, red, and white 'RCA' cables -- or SVideo cable). So your camera selection possabilities increase greatly.
If you're looking for a standalone camera that can deliver a live video feed through USB -- good luck. I'm sure they're out there, but your choices are going to be very limited.
Personally, I use the Canopus ADVC110 -- which allows me to hook up any camera (or even a playback deck/DVR/DVD player, etc.) that can output composite (RCA) or FireWire or S-Video. The ADVC110 will not work for you, as you need FireWire to hook up to your computer, but just in case you do have FireWire I can tell you that it is a stellar box with no issues at all.

Looking for a process browser

Hi, a few applications keep crashing regularly at the moment (eg flashplugin) so I kill processes regularly these days. But I don't want to spam my ~/.bash_history with that crap. So I'm looking for an application that shows me all processes, lets me filter the names and kill processes.
I know I have used ksysguard for that a while ago, but it seems that ksysguard was removed from the kde suite. It doesn't have to be a qt/kde application nor do I need the monitoring features of the old ksysguard.
Again, I'm just looking for a nice solution to filter for processes and kill them without spamming my ~/.bash_history. 'top' would be perfect if it would let me filter for processes but unfortunately it doesn't :>

ksysguard is contained in kdebase-workspace
You could also try to see if xfce4-taskmanager would work on your system
