Looking for an Illustrator for my bridal website

I'm a Bridal Designer loking for a fashion illustrator for cooperations on my website http://www.giuseppepapini.com/

Dear cor-el, wow you are quick. I understand you better now, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to write to you in dutch, only if you are Dutch yourself.
Anyway, first the location bar is what I call the address bar.
Second I work very simple and easy. I never use the address bar when I'm looking for a website.
I just type the name of whatever I'm looking for in the empty bar on my google page and wait for the response.
Third, most of the sellers I buy from on ebay, I just discovered by accident and I immediately saved them in my favorites bar.
So if I need to go to their website(s) I just go to my favorites bar and click on the name of the seller(s) I'm looking for.
Now to answer the question from your earlier letter, the URL's I'm trying to save are those from the webpage(s) I open on the websites I visit and not from the website(s) itself.
The second part of your last letter from " You can modify......" is too difficult for me to understand.
If it's important I'll ask a friend, a mainframe specialist to explain it to me.
Thanks again for help. Regards, Ruiz

  • Mac Mini for professional illustration - sensible choice?

I need to upgrade my 1.25 GHz powerbook as it is becoming too slow for carrying out my digital illustration work.
I'm considering the new 2.0 Ghz Intel Mac Mini + 23" Cinema Display for the following reasons:
    1. The Mac Pro is just too expensive once you factor in a monitor, and is way too powerful for using Illustrator and a tiny bit of Photoshop.
    2. The new 24" Imac would be perfect but the two that I've tried I had to send back as they both had a left side of the screen significantly brighter than the other, rendering them useless for illustration work. The Apple Store told me they were supposed to be like this - their display model had exactly same problem so I'm inclined to believe him.
So the only option I'm left with is the Mac Mini. Will this be powerful enough to run Illustrator and Photoshop CS3, and perhaps Itunes also? I'm hoping to run a web browser, email etc. separately from my old G4 Powermac.
Will it be a significant improvement in performance over my 1.25 Ghz Powerbook (1GB Ram - only one working memory slot so no room for additional memory)?
Any advice much appreciated - Many thanks!

    Last question first:
Will it be a significant improvement in performance over my 1.25 Ghz Powerbook (1GB Ram - only one working memory slot so no room for additional memory)?
Yes. Bearing in mind that the mini is roughly on a par with the G5 DP systems which outperformed the G4 powermacs of similar specification to your PB by a significant margin, the mini could hardly fail to give you a significant boost in performance, and particularly if you were to toss in a couple of 1Gb RAM modules instead of the two 512Mb sticks supplied by default.
However, there is one caveat, and that is that to really benefit from the improved performance capabilities of the system, it would be essential to run Intel-native software, not versions of applications written for the PPC processor you have in the PB. That is clearly not an issue in terms of any of the software Apple supply with the mini, but you need to check that any other software you want to install is also Intel native, because if it is not, it'll run under Rosetta which will slow the mini down significantly - so much that you would not notice much real difference between it and the PB.
So the only option I'm left with is the Mac Mini. Will this be powerful enough to run Illustrator and Photoshop CS3, and perhaps Itunes also? I'm hoping to run a web browser, email etc. separately from my old G4 Powermac.
The mini certainly has the power to run this kind of software - plenty of it.
There are some broad thoughts however: Firstly that as powerful as the mini is, it is not really designed for this sort of use (meaning professional level work) and it lacks a few things professionals often need, such as expandability, choice of video cards, ability to drive multiple displays at high resolutions etc. If those options are not important to you, then the diminutive size and the 'sealed' nature of the system should not put you off, because as much as the mini has limitations (relatively slow hard drive for example), they are broadly the same as those that applied to your powerbook, which has not hindered you in your work.
If I were in your situation I'd probably look at a 20" iMac as a preferred option, with an additional LCD display and mini-DVI adapter for greater flexibility when working, faster hard drive, better graphics and somewhat better all-round performance. Admittedly there are reports of graduated brightness on these systems, though I would refute any claim by an Apple store staffer that this was 'normal' or to be expected, because clearly it should not be. One might suppose the comment resulted from the desire to sell product and the fact the display model exhibited the same characteristic, but with a decent external digital panel set as the primary workspace, that would overcome the problem even if you were to experience it. It might be that you could source an external display from Dell or similar manufacturer at sufficiently lower cost than the 23" Apple display that it would make a base iMac with external LCD little more expensive.
Personally, that's the option I would go for if funds permit, simply because it helps to maximise options and future-proof your investment a little better than a mini. On the other hand if you have a need to keep the expenditure down, the mini is an excellent system of great potential as long as its hardware doesn't restrict your options.

  • Using Filemaker with Adobe Illustrator for Book Project

    Hi All,
I have a database of musical works contained inside a Filemaker Pro database - it's a mixture of images and text.
I'd like to make a book with the content and was hoping to use a template within Adobe illustrator and pull the data in dynamically from Filemaker.
Is Illustrator the right tool for this? I can't find many links or articles.
Any advice at all on using Filemaker to generate book content much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Antknee

I don't really want to post screenshots here of a proprietary solution. But here's a description of a similar FMP-based "publishing" solution:
You have a layout for end-users' main browsing. Similar-looking layouts are used for data entry, but include administrative functions, fields, and flags which expedite content creation, but are not meant for end-users. Typical FMP stuff. But now you take it to the next step:
You build a Report Layout specifically sized and formatted for printing and/or exporting to PDF. You use the FMP tools for object sliding; use Container Fields and/or WebViewer objects for illustrations; use the Merge Field function and/or text Calculation Fields to format text content from multiple data fields. You can overlap fields, so having a container field in the background is simple.
You basically ignore the "publish" Layout as you create, edit, and work with data. But it's always there, and is always "already built and populated." Whenever you want to publish a print version catalog for a particular product, you just launch an FMP script which automatically:
Prompts you for the desired set of records (product model, chapter, category, etc.)
Performs the necessary find and sort.
Creates a table of contents. (Based on another print-formatted Report Layout.)
Exports the TOC as a PDF. (Typically a dozen or so pages.)
Exports the content pages as a separate PDF. (Several hundred pages is no problem.)
In a few minutes, you have an updated print-ready book.
You open the Content PDF in Acroat Pro, insert the pages from the TOC PDF in the front of it, and send it to your on-demand printing outsource. The end result is a perfect-bound manual, without ever having jumped through hoops to dump data into a conventinal-wisdom page-layout app.
    So this one FMP solution:
    Is used for data entry.
Serves as a live internal reference tool served on FMPSA.
Serves as a data export and data analysis tool.
Can be bound as a fully-functional standalone runtime application.
    Is web-deliverable via FMPSA's IWP.
Is web-deliverable as a web site's "backend data" via PHP.
Serves as the "publishing platform" for print-ready and/or web-delivered PDF-based catalogs.
Vector drawings are created in Illustrator, Draw, CAD software, or whatever, and saved as vector PDFs in a folder acessible to the FMP database. The PDFs are named according to a record's unique identifier field (primary key).
You launch Acrobat Pro and run a Batch operation which opens the folder full of PDFs and batch-exports them to an adjacent PNGs folder. The PNGs are exported to the correct size for the Container Field(s) on the print Layout. (Optionally, another Container Field on the browsing Layout displays PDF icons which are links to the PDFs for when a user needs a scaleable, zoomable vector version.) During data entry, each time a new record is created or edited, a scripted button imports both the PNG and the PDF with a click; or batch-imports the images for all records at once.
One could just as easily build a layout and script the solution to create and send HTML-formatted emails of a found page or set of pages.
Like an XML / InDesign solution, FMP effectively figures out for you how many pages are needed for the length of the TOC, and the length of the parts list that accompanies each illustration and creates and numbers them; and it does so without any need for mucking around with XML.
So in this workflow, FileMaker Pro itself is serving as the "page layout" app. All that's sacrificed is high-end printing and exacting typography; which for many practical purposes today is becomming increasingly unnecssary.
The underlying concept herein is "FileMaker and PDF"; not "FileMaker and Illustrator." (Use any graphics program you want that can render to common RGB raster formats and/or PDF).  And it's "let FileMaker automate the page assembly" instead of XML / InDesign. Just keep the page design within the capabilities of a FileMaker Layout.

  • Looking for a case for my new Macbook Pro 13'' 2011

    Any help would be great!
I am looking for a case for my new MacBook Pro 13'' 2011. I went to the Speck website where there are plenty of nice cases to choose from, except I am a little worried that it wont fit the MBP properly. The new MBP 13'' has the same dimensions as the older model but I am mostly worried about the power mag not properly plugging into the side of the MBP.
Have you guys heard of anyone having problems with their L-shaped power mags not fully fitting onto the macbook pro?
I like the Speck brand very much on my MBP 15'' because I haven't had any problems with it.

Speck casing is good and will fit EXACTLY what your MBP is.

  • Interns! Employers! What would you consider to be essential knowledge for learning Illustrator?

    Hello all,
I'm going to be a Teaching Assistant for an introductory vector graphics class at a university. I'm currently in the sorts of creating the curriculum for my tutorial sessions, which will primarily be technical demonstrations of various features in Adobe Illustrator CS5. But before delving into that, I figured I'd ask the interns, freelancers and employers here what you are expected/expecting to know with Adobe Illustrator in the real world.
Just a reminder that this course is supposed to be an introduction to the program. Any input received will be an enormous help to both the making of the curriculum and, most importantly, the students.
    Thanks!

I created a syllubus for training engineers and marketing executives the basics in Illustrator.  These were people who never used the application before and thought it could easily be learned, and thus, reduce the need for a professional like me ( funny, huh? ).  I took it as part of my job.  But, what I did was create a series of lessons that involved such things as drawing by hand, creating a layout ( by hand ), how to read a layout ( i.e., measurements including white space ), how to specify type and typography ( the old way by character counting ).  This, I thought, would provide them a foundation for building documents and artwork in Illustrator.  It is a crash course on how things used to be done before the computer.  Then, I focused a number of lessons on the tool palette.  Toward the end there were a few lessons in color, color theory, and the printing process.  The key to my approach was I gave the participant student a handout of reference material to read.  There was also lab time involved where they ould apply what they read and learned.  I made it mandatory that they could not advance without completing the previous homework exercises and lab project(s).  All the while keeping everything in the "basics" category.  No need to advance into other areas of compound paths, masking, etc., if they do not understand the basic fundamentals of the application.  There is a sense out there that people believe the application can be learned in a short amount of time.  I've been using Illustrator for 16 years and there are still things to learn like scatter brushes.  I always look for job applicants that can show me a sketch or a marker comp and then present how the particular design was produced using the computer.  That involves getting to know their "thinking" behind the particular project and how they solved a particular problem.  I, personally, do not like looking at a bunch of flash in a portfolio...many, many examples of puff without showing the thinking behind them.  What were you presented with as a problem and how did you solve it?  Try to focus their early on attention in the thought process.  The sketch.  I had some lessons where the student had to duplicate a newspaper ad exactly, right down to the fonts used.  I also had them look through their local newspaper and find what they considered a bad ad, something poorly designed. Then, I had them create 3 sketch alternatives using the same ad size.  As part of the lesson, I had them choose the one they thought was their best effort and recreate it in Illustrator.  This was about half way through my curriculum.  At first, at the beginning, I had them create a basic smiley face button pin.  This required using basic shapes and basic lines.  That's what I think is part of the plan, focusing a few lessons on the basics and creating basic shapes.  Since you are involved with creating a program for beginners, focus your efforts on the basics and building a solid foundation in design.

  • What's the recommended format for shooting video thats going on websites

I'm basically looking to do video for websites. Since computer screens are displaying progressively. Is shooting (Progressive Frame Rates) always the better option for shooting video. This is if your only final destination is going to be the internet ?
Also, is streaming always the better route ? If you can afford a personal server, isnt streaming the best method of posting multiple video clips ?
    Thanks - Appreciate all replies

Just one more note to add to the good ones already here: Make sure your source material is as good as it can possibly be. Maybe I'm the weirdo, but in my experience scaling down and compressing video for Web delivery exaggerates rather than hiding shortcomings in the source material. Most of my content is delivered over the Web, but I shoot everything in high-definition with aggressively contrasty lighting and deeply crushed blacks. You might think it wouldn't matter, since it's all getting downscaled and compressed for distribution anyway, but at least to my eyes, material that's shot in high resolution (and yes, at 23.976) with a lot of in-camera contrast compresses better. You end up with fewer subtle areas of mostly-the-same luminance, like in the backgrounds, and that's where Internet compression really falls apart. By keeping everything in sharp contrast, and especially by underlighting your backgrounds and really crushing your blacks, I feel you give the encoder a little advantage and let it produce a better result.
But that might just be me.

I am looking for driver instrument for Agilent 35670A Analyzer (for LabWindows/CVI). Where can I find it?

    Hello Kris1,
We have a LabVIEW driver for the 35670A on our website, but not a CVI driver. There is, however, a CVI driver for a 3561A (another HP Dynamic Signal Analyzer). The command sets should be similar and so you should be able to modify the 3561A's driver to work with the 35670A.

Otherwise, http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/other.htm states a few options to obtaining a driver. Drivers are developed based on demand and p
