I am in the process of totally revamping my entire QMS integrating the use of SharePoint. I was in the process of designing a module to manage my internal audit schedule, reports, findings, and CARs and wanted to ask if anyone had a free canned version

There seems to be a new myth going around recently. I’ve had at least three people tell me, in the last month, that SQL’s transactional replication requires the database to be in full recovery.
This is complete fabrication. Replication (SQL native replication, that is) can work with the databases in any of the recovery models.
Transactional replication does involve the transaction log, as that’s where it picks up changes from. The log reader scans over the transaction log looking for log records marked for replication, copies those to the distribution database and then marks them
as replicated. When the checkpoint (for simple recovery) or log backup (for full or bulk logged) occur, the log will only be truncated up to the oldest inactive, replicated transaction.
Because transactional replication has its own way of ensuring log records aren’t discarded before been picked up by the log reader, there’s no requirement for a specific recovery model.

Look in System Report for the link speed available. (Mine says 3 Gigabit.) Get drives with at least that speed; going beyond that won't get you any more performance.

Let me first start by saying I am deploying to South Korea (Osan AFB) .
I am looking for a plan with unlimited data usage and at least 450 minutes. I was reading about your global phones and south Korea is CDMA so that is good. It looks like I would have to get a new Droid but that's alright.
I have a few questions though:
1. How does the data work for that plan? I don't quite understand how it works.
2. It says its $1.99 per minute, do you really charge by the minute? $1.99 is steep for a minute,
If I used 200 minutes at that rate my bill would cost $398 plus the taxes and other expenses.
3. What can the party I am calling expect? Would it have to be a world phone to?
I am just really trying to figure out how much this would cost.

I would strongly reccomend AGAINST trying to use your Verizon service overseas. As you've discovered, the per minute rates are quite high, and your unlimited data plan will not work there, you would need to pay roaming rates for data as well, and they are no more palatable than the voice rates for international service.
Once you get to South Korea, you should research local carriers and get service from one that is affordable and has the services you need, probably a prepaid carrier.
To your last question, Verizon customers are not charged international rates for INCOMING international calls, so you could call back to the States from your local cellphone, landline, or VoIP provider, and they would be charged the same as if they were getting a call from another phone in the US.

I am looking for a cloud based photo management solution

I have thousands of photos that I need to organize online so that they can be found easily (via search/tagging) and downloaded from any computer. Essentially I need a cloud-based version of Bridge. No, adobe bridge does not work like that. Just that you might ceate several folders on Adobe Creative Cloud and manage them(if possible).

Looking for an internal traffic monitor for a RV042

I have an RV042 router and I'm looking to monitor the total upstream and downstream traffic from within the router. I know there is tons of software that I can put on a network computer to monitor traffic, but is there any software that I can put on the router itself that will monitor the traffic from within the router?

Looking for fast internal hard drive

I want to replace the existing hard drive in my iBook G4 with a faster one (7200 rpm). I realize the battery time will suffer. Does anybody have any specific recommendations (as to which brand)?

Most of the newer specifications of modern drives I've seen are
for the SATA type of hard disk drives now common in new Macs.
Since these won't work inside an older model, you still may find
some PATA/ATA/IDE compatible drives from the same manufact-
urers and through vendors of Mac specific or compatible hardware.
{Of major brands, sometimes you can find a similar spec HDD
in their line-up that is almost as good as their new SATA line;
here's a page with some that won't work in your iBook, but they

The slower spinning drive, may be fine; get one with a larger buffer
and enough free space so the system and applications have plenty
of room for Virtual Memory demands, and make sure the basic RAM
amount is as much as the machine can support.
Some of the newer replacement PATA drives use less power and
have better technologies than those older models in early Macs.
So, if you can find actual reviews and specifications for side-by-side
comparisons (of non-SATA vs other non-SATA) for your application,
that may give you an idea if the faster-spin rate drive is an advantage
you could live with; or something best left for another year's upgrade
when you eventually may get a newer architecture portable Macintosh.
I'd go for the 5400 slower drive, large capacity, with larger 16+ MB buffers,
instead of a faster 7200 drive, in a portable computer on limited batteries.
But I've read of others who did OK by the faster drive. Not sure if they stuck
with original equipment batteries or were able to actually gain run time with
those newer technology batteries which say they have a longer life. Of the
new batteries, you may need to get their brand of reconditioner/recharger
in order to hope to get their longer specified battery life; & charge two at a
time outside of the computer; making sure to calibrate and run them all often.

Assuming you have set up Purchasing with accrual method on receipt (and not on period end), you could enter the PO lines with receipt required. The receipt transactions you are uploading will generate the accounting to charge the expense accounts / or inventory valuation account.
There is no need to interface those also to Payables. In AP enter one invoice with the real monthly amount and match it to the purchase order level or to the receipts level. Approve and pay that invoice.

From your description, this issue only occurs to one sender, messages from others can be forwarded normally. In your case, I recommend you verify if the message is set to "Do Not Forward" when this sender sends it.

Looking for the right adobe solution

I'm looking for a solution I'm sure resides in the Adobe suite of products but am not sure of the best program(s) to use. I want to create a cross platform GUI menu for content CDs. The content is not active multimedia content, but mostly PDFs of print publications. Most users will be on Windows, but the result should, in good conscience, be cross platform. Since many of the users will be on computers that prohibit autorun (i.e., gov't), I want to also configure it to not leave the user in the lurch because they can't autorun. I hate it when that happens--staring at an explorer/finder window full of unintelligible files, not knowing where to start.
An interactive PDF, built in InDesign, with links established to source PDFs in a designated folder? Any prospective user is going to have Acrobat, if only Reader. I'm a print designer and when I step off into the multimedia, interactive thing, I lose my bearings. There are so many great tools in Adobe, I want to go down the right trail and not off a cliff.

Thanks. I will look into that. In fact, my portfolio is an interactive PDF. Wth the increased interactive components in CS5, I thought there MUST be an Adobe solution. I supposed one might be able to create links from a menu design to the many PDF-publications in a folder like a TOC link would do. The folks, very nice I might add, who work in IT where I work are on the Windows/Sharepoint kool-aid diet. I do not think they see Adobe as a solution for ANYTHING. All I want to do is help produce a functional, professional product. I not sure it's necessary to the Encore-level product, especially if the content is not active DVD content.

Internal Time Machine "looking for backup disk" (not time capsule)

I have the infamous "looking for backup disk" issue. My Time Machine drive is an internal drive, NOT a time capsule. It is mounted and visible, and the backups show up on it in the Finder. When I select to enter the Time Machine "starfield" UI, all my previous backups are browsable. But when it comes time to actually back up... it just says "looking for backup disk" forever. I've tried leaving it like that for something like 40 minutes, no joy. This is not a huge disk, there are about 700 GB of backups on it. The HDD activity light on my computer is NOT showing any activity when I am idling but it is "looking for backup disk," so I don't think it's scanning the drive or anything.
I have tried turning TM off and on, removing the drive and re-selecting it, unmounting it and remounting it, deleting the TM preference plist file from the library, rebooting, and all manner of combinations thereof. Nothing seems to work.
Anyone have any advice? This is on OS X 10.8.2 by the way. The TM backup worked fine through 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 with no problems until now. I don't recall doing anything specific to mess up TM or the disks in any way, although I may have turned TM during a reboot cycle prior to this happening (don't recall if this is actually the case, but in any case it shouldn't have caused such an error, no?).

[Just a note, TM only works on OS X Journaled drives (i.e. HFS+ drives). TM does not back up your FAT drive.]

If you unloaded the NTFS and FAT kexts, your TM backups might (might!) work again, but of course in that case you would not be able to see your FAT or NTFS drives in OS X, and if you removed the FAT kext then a lot of USB keys would be unreadable in OS X - not a good solution.
The kexts are specific to OS X, so removing them should not affect Windows... but may affect boot camp, I don't know how boot camp is programmed (which would be a problem). Luckily if your Windows drive became inaccessable from boot camp with removed kexts, it should be easy enough to simply boot back into OS X, restore the kexts, and then Windows should work again.
I would recommend not mixing partition types on drives with shared OSX/Win functions, it seems to "tempt fate" as it were with possible errors. I don't know what has precipitated this error in your case, if it was the MSE or disk error or something else, and unfortunately I don't have a real fix to offer beyond trying things with the kexts removed and seeing if they work.
NOTE THAT THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, messing with kexts is not a very recommendable practice since these files enable core functionality in the OS. Make a backup before if you can, and consider your options carefully. In OS X, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and you'll find a bunch kext files. The two you need are msdosfs.kext and ntfs.kext. Copy ntfs.kext into a backup folder (e.g., on your desktop). Delete the original ntfs.kext from the S/L/E folder. Reboot and see if you can still access windows. If so, reboot into OS X and see if Time Machine works again. If you're good on both those points, then consider going without ntfs.kext on a permanent basis – it is rare that you need to read an NTFS drive while in OS X. On the other hand, if this does not fix your problem, you may try restoring ntfs.kext, and backing up / deleting msdosfs.kext to see if THAT is the culprit. Unfortunately, if msdosfs.kext is causing the TM error, you're kind of out of luck, since going without FAT access will be pretty annoying any time you need to use a drive to swap files between Windows and Mac (using a USB key).
Ultimately I don't have a solution, as I have noted, so much as I've narrowed down where the error is occuring in some peoples' cases (like my own). Good luck!

Possible solution to Migration Assistant "Looking for other computers"

Like many I ran into the Migration Assistant problem of not recognizing an attached drive. I found one solution which worked for me. Obviously, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to work for others but I thought I would post it in case it is useful to someone.
The problem: My MBP 2012's internal HD was getting old and slow. Time to switch to an SSD internal. I purchased a Crucial 512 GB, placed it in an external enclosure and formatted it with Disk Utility. Then I removed the internal HD, replaced it with the SSD and put the old HD in an external enclosure. I attached it with a USB 3 cable.
I restarted the MBP and got to the Restore screen and chose to transfer all data from another disk. It then opened Migration Assistant. When I selected the option to transfer from another drive it went into the dreaded spinning ball hopelessly "Looking for other drives". When going back to Disk Utility, it showed me that the external was properly mounted and visible so that was not the problem. It appears from what I read on other posts that when Migration Assistant starts, it somehow unmounts external drives, possibly by logging out of whichever account was used last.
The solution I stumbled upon is this.
- Restart holding command R (I think) so you get the screen w 4 options: Backup from TM, disk utility, re install OS X and a fourth one
- Select OSX install. It will install a new system through Wifi. It only took about 5-10 minutes.
- Then after it finishes the system installation, it will automatically go into Migration Assistant. Select Backup from other drive and this time it will recognize the external and allow you to copy all files and settings from it.
Hope this helps someone.

That's not how it's supposed to work. Setup Assistant should have found the sparsebundle and shown it in the Select the Source window. Usually it does.
It's possible the backups were slightly damaged. It's also possible clicking Continue on that window might have, uh, kick-started it, as it did for a couple of other folks.
I agree that Setup Assistant "should" have found it, but it didn't... That was what my last sentence was referring to as well.
For what it's worth, I had tried clicking on the grayed-out continue button like people here suggested. For me at least, it acted like every other grayed-out button has, and did not respond.
You may be right that my backup .sparsebundle was damaged or something, but I'm not really sure why that would be or how one might know, or even what to do about it if you did suspect that to be the case. (It checks out on Disk Utility, and Finder has no problem with it. Heck, even Time Machine recognizes it as an "Other Disk" backup and lets me browse it. I just couldn't get the Setup & Migration Assistants to recognize it.)
I figured now that I got it to work I'd document my experience here for the benefit of the next poor guy who has to spend his Christmas eve Googling for this thread...
