I don't know whether it's possible or not to ask in this forum what i'm about to ask.
I like very new working with apex, and i'm trying to develop an important app for the company. 2 experts were supposed to be hired to teach me, but that didn't occur.
Is it possible to ask any of you to be my tutor during the development of this app?. under what terms?
It's not a full time job, just need a tutor to help me when i get stucked...
Thanks in advance for your quick response.

Hello,
>>
What i'm looking right now is for free help, therefore, i asume that not many people would like to help me dayly for help.
>>
Well I'd stick with the forums the adivce and examples you get here is invaluable though I do have a two pieces of advice.
1: Work your way through the 2 Day + Developer's Guide and any of the other howto's that you see that pertain to what you are doing, these go over many basic features that will save you time and enargy and are well worth the time to go through.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/doc.html
2: Get a free account on apex.oracle.com to recreate pages that you are having problems on, this will help people help you in a much more productive way.
Forum contributors have no problem helping you out, in fact I'd say people are happy to help because they remember being in the same situation. But at the same time it's your job to have a clear and concise question to the problem/problems you are having.
Welcome aboard,
Carl

• Looking for APEX tutoring in NJ (with pay) - urgent -

Hi,
I'm a newbie to APEX. I can get a simple form up and running fine. But the project is more than a simple form. I have not got a chance to get training yet. I'm looking for an experienced APEX developer in NJ to tutor me with pay. I'm using APEX 3.2 with Oracle 11g database via Embedded PL/SQL Gateway (which probably is not so relevant). A brief description of the project is as follows:
Login -> Home
|
V
Form 1 -> Search, then display the items that were entered (maybe a dynamic display) based on the search criteria. Click on the item to faciliate "Update" or "Deactivate" (similar to "delete"). On the top of the page, there's a "Add" tab to facilitate insert.
Form 2 -> ......
Form 3 -> ......
The same or similar logic for the other Forms (total about 10 Forms, with Reports added later). This is some of my rough concept, the overall application flow/wrapper can be discussed, if there's other alternative or I'm not on the right track.
Please let me know PROMPTLY.
Thanks much,
Helen

Why are you repeating a prior posting you made today (Looking for APEX tutoring (with pay) in NJ - urgent - Posting the same item more than once will cause headache and issues with the folks that frequent here..
If you have a need for tutoring, as you have asked, you have been sent three viable solutions to follow (two different responders in the area willing to help for $$ and one response involving working through the tutorials on Oracles APEX page and buying one of the better APEX books.. I Would HIGHLY Recommend John E Scott's book, http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Application-Express-Experts-Voice/dp/159059827X ..
Keep the questions coming, folks here will help when they can..

Helen,
First of all, welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of APEX development.
Before recommending anything, it would be really good to know a little bit about your background and how comfortable you are with Oracle, SQL, and PL/SQL. If you're completely new to Oracle (i.e. you've been working with EXCEL and ACCESS), I would recommend a completely different path than someone who is coming at this from a long history of Oracle Forms development, and different again form someone that has Java or other Web development experiene.
Can you help us out with some information about your programming background?
In general, I agree with Don. The 2 Day developer and Advanced Tutorial white papers will give you a good start, by letting you peek under the covers of what is possible with Application Express. There are also a couple good books that might help depending on where you're coming from and what your skill level is.
However, there is nothing like getting yourself into a learning environment that allows you to ask questions specific to what you're trying to achieve in the real world.
The company I work for ( [Sumner Technologies|www.sumnertech.com] ) also provides APEX training at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. We can provide these classes in a public forum, as private on-site classes, or we also provide instructor lead online training classes as well. We have several classes scheduled through the end of the year so check [http://www.sumnertech.com/training|http://www.sumnertech.com/training] for a list of available courses and our public/Online schedule).
What course best suits you will obviously depend on where you're starting from, but we can definitely help there.
Feel free to give us a call at (703) 879-4615. We'll be happy to help.

Peter,
you are correct with the processing3.gif. I added the separate file, because I thought it's not part of the APEX distribution. Fixed that.
About your "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges messages":
In "Supporting Objects\Prerequisites" has this kind of privileges are checked.
I tested that yesterday and it's showing up correctly when installing on 3.0 and 3.1 when a privilege is missing. Any idea what could be wrong? What privilege (exact statement) have you granted to your user.

• Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report using Page Zero

Hi,
I want to implement an «Custom pagination for APEX 4.2 interactive report» using a «page zero».
I recently migrate from Apex 3.1 to Apex 4.2 and my «Custom pagination for APEX 3.1 interactive report» using a «page zero» is not working any more.
So now I try to adapt an excellent example of Jari Laine for 4.0 but using a page zero.
I put the code JavaScript to Page zero but I must create an dynamic action to fire only for an interactive report region.
It’s a good idea?
Thank you

Thought I would try once more with my DatePicker question.
On the Apex.Oracle.Com website I have created a 1 page application that has an Interactive Report.
[url http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=15655:1]
user = 'test'
password = 'test'
I have 2 questions :
(1) In IE7, press 'Actions', 'Filter'. On the Column dropdown list, select 'Order Timestamp'.
Notice the prompt icon to the right of the 'expression'. This should change to the Datepicker, but in IE7 it does not. Try the samething in Firefox or Chrome and the Datepicker will appear.
Is this a BUG, or does Apex 4.02 not support IE7 ?
(2) In Firefox or Chrome, where you can now see the Datepicker, you will notice that it is the new style picker, not the old style ( called 'classic' ). I want to change it so that it shows the 'classic' datepicker not the new, but cannot see how to do it, if indeed you actually can.
I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look and let me know if I am going mad, or if we need to get all our users onto IE8. We have now gone live with Apex 4.02 and need to resolve these issues.
Thanks in advance.

• Looking for example - abap xslt - that uses xslt document() function

Hello,
I'm looking for an example that shows the use of abap xslt with the xslt document() function. Using the xslt document() function seems like a straightforward way to use xslt to create a result xml document by processing the content of two or more
source documents. For example, if source document A.xml and aux.xml are available in memory as xstringand using stylesheet ztransformwhat would be the argument for the document() function to associate aux.xml. Thanks for any insight.
Regards,
jb10809

Hi,
Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer! The function that I picked just to test what you need to do just happened to return a string that contains SPAN tags with style attributes. The actual function code is:
create or replace FUNCTION out_string_fn
RETURN VARCHAR2
IS
CURSOR emp_cur
IS
SELECT ename
FROM emp;
v_string   VARCHAR2 (4000);
BEGIN
v_string := ' ';
FOR c IN emp_cur
LOOP
v_string :=
v_string
|| ''
|| c.ename
|| ''
|| ',

';
END LOOP;
RETURN v_string;
END;And this returned a naff list in green (see [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=55041:57] and click the Test button) - but it does show that you can style the validation error messages

• Anychart 5 integration kit for APEX

Hello,
Just wanted to write a quick post to tell everybody we released the Anychart 5 integration kit for APEX a couple of days ago.
I know a lot of you already tried to integrate a later version of Anychart, the kit (which is free - but you need an Anychart 5 license) should make this more easy for you.
You can find more information about the kit at http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2008/11/anychart-5-integration-kit-for-apex.html or see the examples at http://anychart.apex-evangelists.com
Hope you all like it.

Hello Chris,
I'll try to do that in the next days or early next week. I'm creating another example of such a map.
In the meantime you can have a look here: http://anychart.apex-evangelists.com/pls/apex/f?p=454:13:0
Look at the region source. You basically create a 2D Column chart and change the select like I did:
select null link, REGION label, SALES "{n:Sales;tr:t1}"
from STATE_SALESFor the region source you can change it to the new Anychart 5:
<anychart>
<charts>
<chart plot_type="Map" use_anychart3_data_model="true" use_sets_colors="false">
<thresholds>
<threshold name="T1" palette="P1" range_count="3" type="EqualSteps"
auto_value="{%Value}"/>
</thresholds>
<palettes>
<palette name="P1">

</palette>
</palettes>
<data_plot_settings>
<map_series source="states.amap">
<defined_map_region>
<label_settings enabled="true">
<format>{%Name}</format>
<background enabled="false"/>

<tooltip_settings enabled="true">
<format>{%REGION_NAME} ({%Name}) - ${%Value}
{numDecimals:0}</format>
</tooltip_settings>
</defined_map_region>
<grid>
<parallels enabled="false"/>
<meridians enabled="false"/>
<background enabled="false"/>

• How to Correctly Trap PL/SQL Errors for APEX

This is probably a simple fix but, I have been at it for a while and can't seem to find the magic combination.
I have a page process that calls back end PL/SQL. I have a page item that is populated by said PL/SQL procedure, P35_PROCESSING_MSG. As you know the Process allows me to specify a message for Success and another for Failure. My desire is that, if there is a back end failure, the error will display in the dialog area, using the built-in "Process Error Message" functionality. Instead, after execution, the page item still has its default value and the following, ugly, error displays in the tabular report region.
report error:
ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-01403: no data found
ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exceptionI just don't get why it displays here instead of in the usual failure area. Moreover, I don't understand why the error is "*+unhandled+* user-defined exception" when, as you will see, I have handled it.
I have a page process to perfom custom MRD for a tabular form. (I don't think this is really germane to the more generic issue but, I bring it up as an explanaintion for the following code sample). I am diliberately causing a DIVIDE BY ZERO error to test the error handling form the back end.
PROCEDURE PROCESS_MARGIN_CALL_DELETES( as_StatusMsg OUT VARCHAR2 )
IS
lb_InnerErrorOccured    BOOLEAN := FALSE;
ln_DeleteTargetCnt      NUMBER := 0;
ln_DeleteTargetRow      NUMBER := 0;
BEGIN
ln_DeleteTargetCnt := apex_application.g_f01.COUNT;
FOR ln_DeleteTargetIndx IN 1..ln_DeleteTargetCnt
LOOP
ln_DeleteTargetRow := apex_application.g_f01(ln_DeleteTargetIndx);
BEGIN
If ( apex_application.g_f14.EXISTS(ln_DeleteTargetRow) ) Then
select 1/0 into ln_DeleteTargetCnt from dual;
DELETE FROM RISKDM2.INTRADAY_ECS_RSKALYST_MRGCALL
WHERE RISK_MARGCALL_ID = apex_application.g_f14(ln_DeleteTargetRow);
End If;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
as_StatusMsg := as_StatusMsg || SQLERRM;
lb_InnerErrorOccured := TRUE;
END;
END LOOP;
If ( lb_InnerErrorOccured = TRUE ) Then
RAISE INNER_EXCEPTION;
Else
as_StatusMsg := 'Successfully Processed';
End If;
EXCEPTION
WHEN INNER_EXCEPTION THEN
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR( -20001, as_StatusMsg );
WHEN OTHERS THEN
as_StatusMsg := as_StatusMsg || SQLERRM;
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR( -20000, as_StatusMsg );
END; The associated code in APEX is short and sweet:
BEGIN
MBRDATA.MEMBER_MGR.PROCESS_MARGIN_CALL_DELETES( :P35_PROCESSING_MSG );
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR( -20002, :P35_PROCESSING_MSG );
END;What I am missing?

Anything included under a "report error" during page rendering is not displaying errors associated with a page process, but with the rendering of that report region, in this case clearly:
ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-01403: no data foundThe ORA-06510 user-defined exception error relates to this (ORA-20001 being a user-defined error), but it is coming from the APEX framework rather than your code. Often these prove to be untraceable, unrecoverable problems caused by corruption of report metadata, only "fixable" by dropping and recreating the region.
This may or may not be related to the setting of the page item "by said PL/SQL procedure", but the exceptions reported in the region are not being raised by the procedure.
What does the debug trace show to be going on?

Added "...reported in the region..." for clarity

• Architecture for APEX using iAS 10.1.2 and 10g with Dataguard replication

We are currently using APEX in a stand-alone architecture using iAS 10.1.2 on with 10g as the DB(all on the same server). Our APEX apps are fast becoming a significant part of our production environment and I would like to set up a redundant failover site using Dataguard replication. I am very familiar with the DB failover, but I am struggling with how I can set up iAS on the standby server.
Oracle guidelines for iAS failover using Dataguard (this is not AS Dataguard) specify that the primary and standby server local hostname must be identical for the failover architecture to work unless you use a virtual host name. Due to restrictions in our environment I am not able to set the lcoal hostname the same on the primary and standby servers. As an alternative I installed iAS(10.1.4) using a virtual hostname on my primary server, but it appears that the servername that shows up in all the installation references after the installation is still the actual server name, not the virtual name.
I am looking for guidance from someone that has successfully set up a iAS failover architecture using dataguard on servers that do not have the same local hostname.
thanks

Hi,
I have the same problem. Do you find something about putting jsf in OAS 10.1.2 ?

• Help on the "latest" content for APEX presentation

Tyler Muth here. It's been way too long since I've been on this forum. Unfortunately my current role doesn't allow much time for APEX projects (all Exadata, all the time). I have to give an apex talk in two days and would love some pointers to the latest "best solution" for a few key topics. The apex community has always been one of it's greatest strengths and I'm hoping for some pointers to community content or just built-in functionality that I may not be aware of. The audience are experienced apex developers (and really sound like they know what they're doing) so their questions are beyond the "spreadsheet to app" demo.
Here it goes:

Deployment in general. Specifically moving the full app vs 1 page. (not sure much has changed here)

Efficient use of Page Zero such as dynamic actions or dynamic tabs

Source code control best practices. I'm pretty comfortable wit this one but happy to see new and creative solutions.

AJAX: They did a lot of their own AJAX code before apex included jQuery. I think they're looking for more use of the built-in APIs

More details on the "Shuttle". Examples or modifications perhaps?

Customized success messages, such as "Record for Melissa updated".

Not interested in mobile at this time.

Charting and any custom examples.

Calendar examples beyond what's in the doc. Possibly updating entries inline.

Recent improvements in built-in tabular forms
What I'm looking for are just links to blog posts or other content on these topics if possible. Yes, I can (and will) google them, but the active people in the apex community probably have a good idea where solutions to some of these topics are. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide and I hope to rejoin this community in the near future as I have a few projects where APEX would be a good fit.
Regards,
Tyler
http://tylermuth.wordpress.com

Hi Tyler,
I’m apologizing in advanced for the short response but I have to go out soon.
Two days seems like a short time to really learn new stuff, but as your audience are experience APEX developers, they might find some of the followings interesting:
*) Deployment – APEX 4.0 introduced the APEX_APPLICATION_INSTALL API (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21676/apex_app_inst.htm#CHDIEDJH), which allows you to deploy new applications usinging a command line utility, but still enjoy all the options that were only available in the GUI mechanism (e.g. changing the deployed application ID, default schema, etc.).
*) Error handling – APEX 4.1 introduced some new ways of intercepting and dealing with APEX errors. Patrick wrote two Blog entries on it.
*) Tabular Forms – this feature has considerably changed in 4.x. Adding the option of built-in tabular forms validations (without losing changes in case of validation error) and the option to process the tabular form data per row without resorting to the G_Fxx arrays. Also the Add Row functionality has become a client side operation (important for those who upgrade from pre-4.1 versions). You should search the forum for the combination of marc && tabular && form. He has several threads on the subject.
*) Globalization – if this is an issue with your audience, there were some major enhancement of the translation mechanism. Search Joel’s blog.
That’s all for now. Good luck with the presentation.

• Best Practice for Apex Implementation

Hello,
I'm looking for some guidance in best practices on implementing Apex across our enterprise. Do we install it on many databases based on whether an application gets most of its data from that database? And if so, could we use one 10gAS web server to serve up all of the instances?
We currently have Apex installed on RAC databases in each environment (Dev, Int, QA, Prod), and then use dblinks to connect to the many remaining databases. Each RAC environment then uses an appropriate 10gAS web server (one web server per Apex installation). I'm wondering if this is a good approach or not? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi,
Some of the standards will depend on your end-user capabilities/environments but I have a good standards document we use when developing UPK content for the eBus suite which might help.
Email me at [email protected] and I'll send it over.

• SSL encryption for Apex 4.1

Hi Guys,
I am trying to set up SSL encryption for my local install.
I am running APEX 4.1 in Windows 7 (32 bit) , Oracle XE 11G with embedded plsql gateway setup.
The APEX documentation I looked at that deals with SSL:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23903_01/doc/doc.41/e21678/adm_mg_service_set.htm#AEADM297
instructs to turn HTTPS on in APEX_ADMIN (Internal schema) under security.
It didn't work as APEX was visible still under http://localhost:8080/apex and using HTTPS gave page not found error. On top of that It locked out my Admin account for INTERNAL workspace. So I had to switch it back via SQL query in SQL plus.
From limited experience in doing something similar in Tomcat, I believe one needs certificates etc before proceeding with this.
Anyone who has done this before, can you please point to a any documenation/blog post, tutorial etc that shows how its done? Many thanks.

HTTPS is not supported natively with the HTTP listener built into Oracle Database XE. If you want HTTPS support, use an alternative Web listener, such as Apache, that does provide HTTPS support, and provide proxies for the URLs provided by Oracle Database XE.

That APEX instance admin parameter you have change do not enable HTTPS. It require that you use HTTPS on your web listener.
Here is how reverse HTTPS Requirement for APEX instance admin

• Change Control tools for APEX development

I have a customer who is using APEX and would like to have change control, version, and synchronization of APEX pages...
Basically we are talking about Configuration management capabilities

Well, since APEX is mostly pl/sql based, the other poster's idea of SQL Developer is valid... The other items.... you are on your own for test scripts (again sql developer for the pl/sql required...)
What it sounds like is your are wanting a oracle designer wrap-around for APEX.. Don't know what to tell you.. I would suggest you look at some type of version control system.. Subversion is a good one, MS Source Safe works too...
Thank you,
