Looking for audio switching answer

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to separate my audio out from my built in audio, maybe via USB? The only thing I can find that might enable me to do this is the Griffin iMic. All I want is to be able to switch from iTunes playback from my stereo to built in audio sounds. At the moment I have an audio out cable plugged in which disconnects the built in speakers. Is there a simper way to do this or is the iMic the way to go?
Thanks
iLee

you should ask Lenovo for detail audio spec (and find it at audio manufactured site), or use 3rd party application, or update your windows. This is not OS related issue. Nothing much we can do here

looking for a simple answer  ........why is it more difficult for skype to connect than before . It fails to ring most times and your never sure if it is just slow or did not dial in the first place???  and is there any way to disable the leave a message feature ??? I am afraid soon it will be like most wondows applications where you will need endless updates and patches just to keep it running ..... Why is it that everyone is trying to fix everthing when it isnt broken.

WTF? I'm sure you can find plenty of examples on google. It's on you to take the time to go through them, study them, and, if you still don't understand something, post a clear, concrete question that indicates what you read and what you didn't understand about it.
As is, you're essentially treating folks here as your research flunkies and saying, "Give me an example that's better than all the ones already easily available to me. Read my mind to know why I didn't like them."

• Looking for audio extractor app

Hi. I'm looking for an audio extractor (just want music, not video).
Could someone recommend an app for this? I found nothing on Update and Tracker. Well, there's the one Audio Converter but the review is not good.
The music I want is in a .avi movie file.
Thanks.

QuickTime Pro, 30 bucks to get the key from Apple, will do this. Open the .avi file with QuickTime player, go to menu item Window->Show Movie Properties, select the Track and click the Extract button. A new QT window opens with just the sound, you can then File->Export and save it as an aif file, even convert the aif file to mp3 in iTunes. I think you can bring up the Buy option right from QuickTime player's menu item, try selecting Registration.

• Looking for Audio Units

Good day to all and thank you for your time.
_Can't get enough sounds!!!!_
I'm currently creating most of my projects with Logic's Sound Banks and Vienna Orch, however, they are starting to get boring. And knowing how expensive(expansive, too) these banks could get, does anyone know any spectacular sound banks that's worthwhile? (Looking into a lot of Eastwest ones right now, still contemplating..) How about outboard ones like a YAMAHA Motif rack? Mainly looking for drums and keys, please and thank you!!
Additionally, I now have a couple of projects near completion and I'm looking into digital solutions to my mixdown, so has anyone found any good mixing tools/Plug-ins(Audio Units) that are better than Logic's Factory Plug-ins? (Preferably with mastering capabilities as well. And I personally do think Space Designer is top notch! Just wanted to know if there're any better out there.)
As always, thanks in advance for all suggestions!
One,
Rex.

Native Instruments' Komplete bundle will provide a huge library of sounds:
KONTAKT 3 - sampler comes with 30GB of sounds on its own and it also provides the engine for MANY 3rd party sample libraries.
MASSIVE, ABSYNTH, FM8, PRO-53 - More synth sounds than you'll know what to do with
BATTERY 3 - drum sampler with a bunch of included drums, with the option of adding more
REAKTOR 5 - A modular synth, sampler, audio processing, etc... thing. You can create your own audio thingies if you dare take the time to learn how to, or just use the included thingies or download over 1,000 user-created thingies with your Native Instruments account. I can't say enough about Reaktor.
Additionally, I now have a couple of projects near completion and I'm looking into digital solutions to my mixdown, so has anyone found any good mixing tools/Plug-ins(Audio Units) that are better than Logic's Factory Plug-ins?
Many, many things. I like my Universal Audio UAD plugins, Sonnox, PSP Audioware. There are so many more.

• Newbie looking for a few answers on upgrading

I have been a switcher for about 5 months. I have a mental block sometimes from Windows... I tend to make it harder than it really is....
I am now interested in upgrading to Leopard.
I have a few concerns/questions.
I have a used mac mini (reason for the switch).
I plan on doing an archive and install.
So here are the questions.....
1. Where can I find a detailed step by step of what to do before/during/after install? ( i have a bootable backup already)
2. will I loose my iweb internet site?
3. do I need to de-authorize my itunes account before install?
4. How/can I bring my mail messages into the new mail......
Thanks for any advice you can give......

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
1. Where can I find a detailed step by step of what to do before/during/after install? ( i have a bootable backup already)
My FAQ*:
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
2. will I loose my iweb internet site?
Not if you archive and install and save user settings and your system is healthy. There is no guarantee your system is healthy, which is why you made a bootable backup.
3. do I need to de-authorize my itunes account before install?
No.
4. How/can I bring my mail messages into the new mail......
They will not move as long as you save user and network preferences.

• Looking for the definitive answer on what Camcorder to buy!

Hello folks, I could really use your help.
I'm an avid Mac user in the graphic design world, and have an iMac as a home machine. I'm going out next week to buy a Digital Camcorder so that I can begin working with home movies of my family and such. I'm new to the camcorder world, and have discovered a wealth of information regarding the cameras available...and as a result am more confused than ever.
What I'm looking for is a Camcorder with a price tag not much over $600 that will allow me to shoot good indoor & outdoor video of my family and children, and that is easilly compatible with my iMac and the newest version of iLife on the market. I want to create DVD's from this, and store our home movies this way.
Can anyone tell me what camera fits all of these requirements? I'm looking at the Canon Elura 80 which I've found good things about, but would really like to hear from some of you with experience on the subject.
Any input or suggestions would be tremendously appreciated. My thanks in advance.

• Harm, looking for a quick answer on a RAID question...

I bought a G-Speed ES drive with the G-Tech RAID card, set up the drive yesterday, initialized it (took 9 hours!) as a RAID-5, and in the initiallization settings window I was asked what sector size I wanted. I did some quick research and found that bigger sectors are better with bigger files, so choose the maximum size available to me under the hardware RAID, which was 4k (I'm assuming that's 4096). Came into the office this morning and found the drive had finished the initilization and that Windows required me to create a "simple volume" on it before it could be used. I'm in the process of doing that, and have found that Windows is asking me to set a sector size again: This time my maximum option is 64k. Do I want to go with the maximum option of 64k, or do I have to use the 4096 which the hardware RAID used in initializing the array?

David,
This may be informative: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/wd-4k-sector,2554-3.html
With a sector size or cluster size of 4 KB, data are distributed across the partition in 4 KB parts. Suppose you have a 10 KB file, three full clusters will be occupied: 4 KB - 4 KB - 2 KB. The remaining 2 KB is called slackspace and can not be used by other files. With a block size (stripe) of 64 KB, data are distributed across the array disks in 64 KB parts. Suppose you have a 200 KB file, the first part of 64 KB is located on disk A, the second 64 KB is located on disk B, the third 64 KB is located on disk C and the remaining 8 KB on disk D. Here there is no slackspace, because the block size is subdivided into clusters. When working with audio/video material a large block size is faster than smaller block size. Working with smaller files a smaller block size is preferred.
Sometimes you have an option to set 'Chunk size', depending on the controller. It is the minimal size of a data request from the controller to a disk in the array and only useful when striping is used. Suppose you have a block size of 16 KB and you want to read a 1 MB file. The controller needs to read 64 times a block of 16 KB. With a chunk size of 32 KB the first two blocks will be read from the first disk, the next two blocks from the next disk, and so on. If the chunk size is 128 KB. the first 8 blocks will be read from the first disk, the next 8 block from the second disk, etcetera. Smaller chunks are advisable with smaller filer, larger chunks are better for larger (audio/video) files.
What you see as 'sector size' from Windows is better called the block size and for video you can best choose the maximum, in this case 64 KB.
BTW, also have a look at Adobe Forums: How to access more than 2 TB of disk...

• Looking for router/switch combo equivalent to RV325

Hello:
I will be working with the RV325 router frequently.
I am hoping to setup a router/switch combo similar to RV325 at home to practice.
However, I do not want to spend $400+ just for that purpose.
I knew that RV320 has a similar GUI of RV325.
Question:
Is there any other router/switch combo that shares similar GUI and function of RV325 but even cheaper than RV320?
Thank you.

The snmp-server ifindex persist command only applies to ifIndex values as you have seen.  The indices of the cikePeerTable should be well-defined, but the internal index may change on a tunnel flap.  The MIB documentation doesn't say that it would, but it is certainly possible.  The index structure would look like:
1."10.1.1.1".1."10.1.1.2".1006
Where 1 is the local type, "10.1.1.1" is the local end IP address, 1 is the remote type, "10.1.1.2" is the remote end IP address, and 1006 is the internal peer index.
The cikeTunnelTable on the other hand uses a unique monotonically increasing index each time a tunnel is created (cikeTunIndex).  You would need to walk the table and pull out the specific tunnel attributes to know if this was the tunnel you want to monitor.
The short answer is that you may need to script the collection of the table rows to dynamically regenerate your NMS configuration to continually monitor the interesting tunnels.

• Looking for audio equalizer

I just received my very first mac a week ago. When I was looking through the sound preferences in system preferences, i realized there was no audio equalizer. Do you guys know of any free ones I can use for safari and other programs?

Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion a1210n running Windows Vista 32bit. I'm missing the audio drivers and can't seem to find them. Can you point me to a link for these drivers?
Thanks, It's much appricieated!

I found this link but it doesn't talk about audio drivers in the multimedia package. Am I missing something? Does Vista need to have all OS updates installed for this to work?
Thanks again!

• Sort of off topic, but same old question looking for a new answer

Ok I'm ready to start a new site. I'm going cheap as it's all coming out of my pocket including hosting. I want to put a video chat room on my site. Is there anyway to capture a webcam in this fashion in director. I've done tons of searching but I can't really find anything. I'm trying to avoid using the flash communication server for three reasons. 1) I already have the director multiuser server that will host up to 1000 users (the room will never be anything close to that big 50 peeps tops) and my web host will support it and install it for me. 2) I can't find anything at a really cheap price. I'm looking at 25 cam users at once... 3) Actionscript is nothing I've every really worked with before, but I could do the lingo programming.
I have a few questions First of all I read something about putting a flash element on the stage, and that the flash player is what captures the webcam. But I assume that it still needs flash communication sever to upload the video. Is this correct?
Is there an xtra that will do what I  want?
I read something about encoding the video to realvideo, but I have no clue how as I've never done anything like that before. Will this work and do you know of a tutorial for this?
Do you know of a really really cheap flash comm host?
Really off topic but, I could write the text chat end of it in cold fusion. Is there a known way to easily add the video in this way?
Does anyone know of a cheap off the shelf video chat room that I can put up on my site and just pay for the bandwidth overage that it uses?
Thanks for any help any of you could give me.

There are several 2.4 GHz MacBook pros shipped over several years.
If this is your Mac (2007 model) scroll down to the memory section and read:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .4-15-santa-rosa-specs.html
Standard RAM:
2 GB
Maximum RAM:
6 GB*
Details:
2 GB installed as two 1 GB modules. No slots free.
*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.
Site sponsor Other World Computing sells MacBook Pro memory, as well as hard drives, batteries, carrying cases, and accessories.
... and that sponsor is not a bad place to get RAM at all. They are experts, and back it up with a "money back if it does not work in your Mac" guarantee.

• Looking for a recursive answer using a intersection table. Possible CTE? Other method?

Hello all,
This is my first time on the forums, so please bear with me.  Im also a somewhat novice SQL coder but I have a question that I feel might be best answered my the more advanced folks on this forum.
I have 3 tables, a user table, a group table and a membership table.
Say:
user_table
+-------------------+
user_PK
Id
Name
Description
+-------------------+
Group_table
+-------------------+
group_PK
Id
Name
Description
+-------------------+
Group_members
+----------------------+
group_members_PK
Group_ID
Member_ID
Member_type
+----------------------+
The group_ID is linked to the Group_table.ID and the Member_ID can be either linked back to the group_table or user_table depending on the value of member_type.
It is possible to have nested groups, and each level of nesting can have users as well not just nested groups.  Sort of how the windows group nesting model works.
I would like to end up with being able to have output that lists only users, their descriptions and their nested group path if any.
If you need more clarification please let me know.   I know this maybe a simple thing, but Im unsure how to do it.  Thanks in advance.

>> This is my first time on the forums, so please bear with me.  I am also a somewhat novice SQL coder but I have a question that I feel might be best answered my the more advanced folks on this forum. <<
Please follow basic Netiquette and post the DDL we need to answer this. Follow industry and ANSI/ISO standards in your data. You should follow ISO-11179 rules for naming data elements. There is no generic “id”, “name, etc. in RDBMS. Tables have to have a key,
but we do not put “_pk” on the name. Read a copy of https://www.simple-talk.com/books/sql-books/119-sql-code-smells/ so you will stop tibbling and other bad practices.
You should follow ISO-8601 rules for displaying temporal data. We need to know the data types, keys and constraints on the table.
Avoid dialect in favor of ANSI/ISO Standard SQL. And do not draw ASCII pictures! They do not compile.
>>The group_id is linked [sic] to the group_table.id [sic] And the member_id can be either linked [sic] back to the group_table or user_table depending on the value of member_type.  <<
RDBMS has no links; that was in network databases in the 1970's. No wonder you want to use recursive CTEs; they are cursors
>> It is possible to have nested groups, and each level of nesting can have users as well not just nested groups.  Sort Of how the windows group nesting model works. <<
Then you should use a nested sets model.  Since you did not post sample data, DDL  or correct specs, Google it.

• Xmlrpc and soap, looking for a simple answer to a simple question

Hello,
Can someone tell me, are java implementations of web service protocols such as soap and xmlrpc built around servlets (and supporting classes of course) that know how to deal with these specific xml formats? I know there are various libraries for handling these things but on the most basic level it's still using a Servlet as an end point for an http request and then handing out the request to the supporting classes isn't it?
thanks a bunch
-seth

XML-RPC and SOAP were developed outside of Sun, outside of Java. They are uniform international standards of communications developed on top of XML standards to be easily used by applications of different types.
XML, like Java, is cross-platform, but for applications. XML defines document structure, and because it is an international standard, many people have access to the "format." An application, like Microsoft Word, can read an XML document created by some other Application that is written in XML because both understand XML. Although they can read the document, they may not understand the data. Various other XML technologies enable the application to retrieve another XML document that describes the elements or that defines how the data is to be displayed and/or used. XML Style Sheets and XML Translations are just two such things.
Not everyone knows the Adobe PDF format, so a program like MS Word is not able to read it, but if it was written in XML, then Word could read the document, get the technology that describes how to handle the data, and then properly display it to the user, allow editing, then save it back into XML format, and then Acrobat could read the edited data and display it correctly as well. Two different applications, one common format.
