Looking for best way to edit 29.97 and 25 fps footage together.

Hi everyone.
I've looked on the boards, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.. any help is appreciated.
I'm starting a job shot in Argentina, and they shot both 25fps and 29.97fps. I believe they used DSLR cameras.
I think the delivery format is web only, but am awaiting final word.
Questions-
Do I need to convert the footage to one frame rate, or will PPro handle the different rates in the same timeline without the footage looking awkward?
Can I just have PPro interpret the media as a different frame rate?
If I need to convert, would you please recommend best software?
Would you recommend converting to 29.97 or 25?

I am inclined to say edit 25fps and then the dropped frames of the 29.97 should not look too bad with most footage. You mileage may vary. It really depends on the footage. It could make it look choppy. But maybe better than 25 played at 29.97 using frame blending to make new frames out of thin air.
Create your 25fps sequence from the 25fps footage. Then when you drop the 29.97 on it, it will automatically drop the frames necessary to make it 25fps.
If, however, you are going to write it to DVD, you want to do that in the PAL or NTSC settings you would normally use for wherever it is that you live.
By the way, if you interpret the 29.97 as 25 it will play back slower. Slightly slow motion. If you interpret the 25 as 29.97 it will appear fast. Once again, it depends on the footage. If you shot objects (like travel stuff), then speed is not a huge deal, but if you shot people or animals it could make a huge difference.

Looking for best way to filter status or meter data from differently formatted text.

With the product we design we are able to communicate via RS-232 ports. What I'm trying to do is filter out the data that is given by multiple differnt types of products that will give similar data back, but in a differnt format. Such that in a status command I'm looking for everything to be in a non failed state. But some items will show warning, failure, #.##w(for warning), or #.##f (for fail). But the format of each product is different. Also for a meter command I'm looking for a way to filter out just the numeric value for each phase amplitude, but once again the format will be different for each product. I have been able to pull this data out easy enough for an individual product but not on a wide product range with the same VI.

Looking for best way to set up multiple iPhone accounts

I already have an iPhone. Planning on getting one for my wife. I need to know the best way to setup both phones on my computer. We have separate Windows accounts on our home computer. I currently have an iTunes account on my Windows user account with some apps and the music library - with some, but not a lot of purchased music.
We also both use separate Outlook accounts for Calendar, Contacts, etc.
Should I:
- Sync both phones on my iTunes account? I imagine that would allow us to share any purchased music and apps. If so, can I point her phone to sync to her Outlook account?
- Set up a new iTunes account on her Windows account? I would import my music into her library, but I would guess that she would not be able to share my purchased music or apps
- Do something else?
Please let me know the best approach. Thanks.

Keep your separate logins, itunes accounts, outlook, etc., you can still share itunes content, as permitted under the EUSLA.
Launch itunes under your WIFE"S computer login. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, under preferences(under the edit menu), in itunes. Log your WIFE out of her itunes account, log in using YOUR account details, connect YOUR phone, DO NOT SYNC. Go up to Store>Authorize This Computer. Then, File>Transfer Purchases. Once complete, EJECT YOUR phone. Log out of itunes, log your WIFE back in. Connect HER phone, select what content you want on HER phone, hit the sync button. She likewise can transfer purchases to your account, thus you both can share content. All updates to Apps must be done using the same account originally used to obtain them. Log in, update, log out.

Looking for best way to convert 35 mm slides to digital images

Am researching best ways to convert several hundred 35 mm slides into digital images. There are numerous scanners/converters out there but want to ensure I get the best unit compatable with my iMac (27 inch, Late 2009). Any suggestions welcome.

For scanning 35mm slides you need a scanner with a good photometric resolution and geometric resolution.
For the photometric resolution: Get a scanner with a high density range (D-max) value, to get a good resolution of highlights and shadows.
For the geometric resolution - sharpness and detail - try to get at least 3200 dp,i to be able to get good 8"x10" prints from your scanned slides, a higher dpi value, if you want to be able to print larger images.

There is a scope to implement all the ERP Analytics (HR, Finance, SCM, Procurement & Spend, Project) and CRM Analytics (Sales, service, Marketing, Contact Center, Price, Loyalty ). Just want to know the best approach for impelmentation of both ERP and CRM analytics

Answer, as always, is "it depends". Here is a list of things to consider w the 3 approaches you mentioned:
1- Work with two separate containers with separate execution plan for ERP and CRM
This is a good approach if you plan on a different frequency of ETL loads for each container or different timings. As long as the targets are the same and you run INCREMENTAL loads from both containers, then the refresh dates will be updated. This is usually a good idea if your ERP and CRM users have different timing and load requirements and do not want to "interfere" w each other. You will also have DATASOURCE NUM ID uniquely defined for each system so the data will be segregated. By default, each source system will have its own container
2- Work with one container with one execution plan for both ERP and CRM
This is good if you are ok w the same exact load time for both. Its a simple approach and all tables will be loaded at the same time to avoid any confusion.
3- Work with one container with separate execution plans for both ERP and CRM
Not sure what the advantage of this option versus keeping them in separate containers (like Option 1).
I would also review the secion in the DAC guide for "MultiSource Execution Plans"

Best way to export my DV and HDV mixed footage film

here's a tricky one
I have a 9 minute film, shot on dv-pal, still photography and some parts on HDV progressive.
I have finished editing but can't find a way to have a good to screen film. The problem is the fields, and they appear for some reason when I export the film, either uncompressed or dv-pal quality. The exported finished product is full of "lines" that downgrade my picture quality a lot.
I tried two ways
I edited the whole thing on a DV sequence. The still photographs and the HDV material was scaled down to fit the size of the DV footage which consist most of the film. But the finished export either uncompressed either when exporting using Compressor is ****.
I am now trying to adjust all the footage on an HDV sequence...
any help or opinions offered is very much welcomed

Have you actually watched your film on a proper monitor, or just your computer display? The reason I ask is I've had footage before, usually interlaced, that looks terrible on my progressive computer display, but once burned onto a DVD and played on an interlaced TV looks gorgeous. If you have an analog->digital converter or even a DV camera you can use that too. Plug that in to your computer and a TV you've got handy and playback your sequence through that and see how it looks. I'm willing to bet that it will look infinitely better on an actual TV set.

What is the best way to run AirPort Extreme and Airport Time Capsule together?

I have cable DSL, and I was running an AirPort Extreme. DH was sold a time capsule, so I just daisy-chained off the airport. We had an issue with limited reach, so I tried to reconfigure. Now I have no wifi at all. Tried everything I can think of. What is the best way to handle these two products, or should one be left out? Any suggestions would be great.

Decide which one you would like to serve as your router, and configure the other one as a bridge. If they are both the most recent models of each neither one is particularly advantageous over the other.
Connect them to each other with an Ethernet cable if you want to create a "roaming network", or not, if you want to create a "wirelessly extended" network. A roaming network is the better of those two choices.
"Hard reset" the one connected to the modem and use AirPort Utility to configure it. Verify everything works to your satisfaction, then "hard reset" the other and configure it.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

Looking for best way to select a list of components

I have a button that checks user input to make sure it's the right format.
I want this button to extend a debugger type window... I was wondering if there was a class that someone could recommend to me.
Inside the window being extended I want there to be a table with columns labeled "Error Message", "Input", "At", "ReplaceWith". The first three will be disabled text fields, but the fourth one i want to hold a textfield with a button... Any recommendations as to how to most efficiently implement a selectable row of components would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i could always just fake a table via a class
extending a JPanel with all the data in it & just
have an array of this class & throw those into a
bigger JPanel... if anyone knows of a better, cleaner
way to do this, please let me know.Possibly better to use JDialog with a JTable rather than JPanel since my guess is that you want to present this information in a modal way (though I could be wrong).

Looking for best way to test for a program

I like test path better. My problem is through all the different versions of office they cant all install to the same directory. Research time.

I'm writing a script that will automatically install Outlook 2010 if Office 2013, 2010, 2007, or 2003 are not installed. It's part of a script I already have each tech has to run locally due to management decisions(that I have no control over). Right now I prompt the tech if they want to install it. Then test for the installer and install it.

Which is the best way to edit this program and make it read 1 sample from each channel?

The original program was made with Traditional NI-DAQ. I have edit it to DAQmx the best that i could. The program it's already applying the voltages that are generate in the code(Daqmx Write.vi). But i'm having problems with acquiring voltages it's giving me rare readings(Daqmx Read.vi) i don't know if i have to make a (Daqmx Start Task.vi) for each channel in the program or if i can make it work with a single one. Notice i have not make many significant changes because this program is already running in another lab and they give to us the program so we didn't have so much problems but instead of getting the BNC-2090 they got the BNC-2090A that uses DAQmx instead of Traditional. So anyone can help?

A BNC-2090 is just a connector block. It has no effect on whether you need to use DAQmx or traditional DAQ. That is determined by the DAQ card you are connecting the terminal block too.
You might be referring to this document Differences Between the BNC-2090 and BNC-2090A Connector Blocks, but that is just saying to the change in the labels of the terminal block to accurately reflect the newer DAQ cards.
What problems are you having with the new VI you just posted? Are you getting an erro rmessage? I don't know what "rare readings" mean.
You really shoud look at some DAQmx examples in the example finder. Some problems you are having is that your DAQ blocks are all sort of disconnected. Generally, you should be connecting the purple wire from your create task function, throught the start, read or write, and on to the close task. Many of your DAQ functions are just sitting out there on little islands right now. You should also be connecting up your error wires.
With DAQmx, you should be combining all of your analog channels in a single task. It should look something like Dev0/AI0..AI7. Then use an N channel 1 sample DAQmx read to get an array of the readings, which you can then use index array to break apart.
Other things you should do is replace the stacked sequence structures with flat sequence structures. Turn on AutoGrow for some of your structures such as the loops. In the end, you might find you can eliminate some sequence structures.

Recommendation for best way to copy a DVD and send to Vimeo?

8 years ago I made a DVD of a 2-hour SD program and now I'd like to put it up on Vimeo. Before I upload it, I'd like to copy it into FCPX to add some text. What software and process do you recommend so I'll end up with the best quality on Vimeo (I have Vimeo Pro, which allows up to 20GBs).
I've been trying to copy it, but I keep getting little scan lines around points of movement.

Russ, you were right that the Playback Component will work with 10.9. I was confused by the Apple Store website that says, “On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.” That warning proved true, since when I downloaded it, I couldn’t install it. But the link Tom sent me told me how to load it anyway, using the Streamclip utility script, which worked.
I then experimented with about 9 different settings to get the digital file as close to the DVD in quality as possible. The one that worked best for me was a combination of the settings you both sent me: Open the DVD in Streamclip, set Compression for ProRes 422 Quicktime, Quality: 100%, check Deinterlace Video, check Field Dominance Upper Field First (I tried Lower, but didn’t see a difference).
Although Streamclip lists Frame Size for 4:3 as “640x480”, Tom pointed out “The native format for DVD is not 640x480, but 720x480.” So I selected “720x480 (DV-NTSC)” for Frame Size in Streamclip. Then I clicked “Make Movie”.
Then I imported the file into FCPX, created a new project, and, as Russ suggested, had FCPX set the project properties based on the first clip. I loaded the file on the timeline, added my lettering, and then went to Share, where I exported it as a “Master File” with “Web Hosting” chosen. This produced the finished file ready for uploading. Although in stages of this process there were jagged lines on lettering, they were mostly gone on the final file. The end product is close in quality to the original DVD. Close enough.

JPA: looking for pattern to prevent edit of ownerId and created properties

My business and persistence tier architecture ideally should prevent editing of the ownerId, created, modified and version properties which are common to all my entities.
The ownerId is perhaps obviously the identifier of the user or group in a multi-user app who own the item of data and have rights to edit it. 'created' is the creation data when it was first written to the DB.
I can't set the 'modified' or 'version' fields to updateable="false" because they do need updating.
I don't want to use stored procedures, or interfaces for the entities. I'd like to keep it generic.
Do I have any other choice than to execute a native sql query to fetch the unchanged values?

So I'll have to make 'created' and 'ownerId' parameters on the constructor with no setters and just hope I never have the need to set them.
But with 'modified' and 'version', the properties need updating. JPA needs to access the version field - does JPA do this by reflection? I'll run some experiments to see what happens.
With a setter on 'modified', I still want to protect it against change by anyone else. Well of course, I'm being a bit obstinate, if the 'modified' property is set every time by a listener, then it doesn't matter whether it was changed beforehand outside the persistence layer: that change will just get overwritten by the listener. Hmm.

Looking for a way to just "place" graphics and text where I want.

In GoLive I could just drag a text box or graphic placeholder exactly where I wanted it. This made it very easy to design pages with no programing.
Is there a way to do this or something similar in Dreamweaver CS4?

under usage-i only have the camera roll, photo library and photostream-they don't show the individual albums withing my libraries-if i delete library-i would delete about 12 albums

What is the best way to edit meta data..

What is the best way to edit meta data and tag photos, faces, places etc. and have the data saved to the original photo.
On a PC I would just use Windows Gallery. iPhoto on the Mac allows for some tagging, but it doesn't save to the original file.
I like to have my photos in a folder, edit them and save the changes.
What software would work best on a MAC to accomplish this?

iPhoto is a database and any metadata you add or edit is available in any app - if you learn how to use it.
iPhoto is a non-destructive processor. It never touches the original file - it treats it like a film shooter treats the negative.
If you want a copy of the original file with the metadata included simply export a copy.
