Looking for Camcorder to interface with IMAC 10.6.8

I'm trying to choose the right camcorder. The main focus of this camcorder is to make an instructional video to be sold on the internet.(not u-tube) It will be on a tripod the whole time. Would like to use an SD card of some kind for storage. My computer is a Mac osx10.6.8 and will be using I'Movie to edit. Want it to be in HD, good still shots if possible, good sound and no more than $700. Could anyone recommend a specific camcorder or at least the specs I need to accomplish this.. Just sent back the Sony HDR-CX260V.Beautiful little camcorder but wouldn't interface with my Mac. I'm so frustrated especially because I don't know anything about camcorders or what I should be looking for. HELP?

Hello

put your tow imac side by side then plug an ethernet cable between us , ethernet logo look like that
then on each imac desable wifi ( air-port )
go to system preferences -> network , you should see somthing like that
select from Configure IPv4 to MANUALY on both imac , then fill info for ehternet exactly as folow
for 1st Imac
for 2d Imac
then try launch again migration assistant , or use file sharing options on old imac

• Looking for a Firewire interface with Midi Connectivity?

If I play my cards right, I should be able to afford an M-Audio 410. But if that doesn't work out, is my only other option in a lower price bracket the Tascam FireOne?

Search M-Audio on this forum and you'll find a lot of info about it. I have used the 410 for several years and it has served me well. However.....
1. The drivers are always a hassle. They have just in the past two weeks finally released a non beta driver for 10.5, while most other manufacturers release drivers in a very timely manor. (At the same time as releasing this driver, the also released their first non beta driver for 10.4.11, which had been out for more than a year!) Even their final releases have some weird issues, and if you're doing critical recording, like live performance, I wouldn't trust them. Another example: the driver that they had for 10.4 for a while had an issue where you would need to reset the device, or change a setting in the control panel EVERY TIME you plugged in the device, or else you'd never get any sound out of it. Once you did that it was fine until shut down. I know this was an issue with the driver because I know several other's who had the same issue, and a lot of people on here posted 'fixes' for this well know issue.
2. The build quality on my 410 has been questionable. After about 8 months, one of the headphone jacks broke. I sent it in and they fixed it. About a year later, the other broke, and is still does not work.
For me, the more concerning thing is the driver issue, so my caution is more to interfaces than to midi controllers. I have one of their cheap controllers and it is fine. The build quality is still cheap, but it's just a controller. If you do a search for M Audio on this forum and others, you'll find out that tons of people use their stuff, and many with different experiences. Here's a thread I participated in recently:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1539730&start=0&tstart=0
But I find MOTU to be much more sturdy and reliable, and have heard a lot of rave reviews of the Duet.
I encourage you to search around for these brands and you'll find lots of info and user comments. Again, I have gotten lots of good use from my 410, but I don't trust it as much as I'd like to.
Good Luck!

• Looking for an audio interface with the following criteria

-Firewire
-At least 4 mic preamps
-MIDI in/out
-Optical ("lightpipe") outs to the active monitors
Will I need to get a separate interface and midi or preamp box to get all this? Is there an interface out right now that satisfies these criteria?
Advance thanks.

RME Fireface 800. Far and away the best sounding and most stable Mac inferface I've ever used. That includes 002, MOTU 2408, MOTU Ultralite and the M-Audio 410. Great pre's, great clocking and the Total-Mix software is unbelievable. I even use it as my main audio interface in Pro-Tools by sending firewire to and from the 002 and essentially using the 002 as a $ 1200 dongle.

• Looking for a handheld DMM with an IVI Interface

I am looking for a handheld DMM with an IVI Interface. I dont need a lab
instrument. Knows any one a solution?
Babak

Hi,
Yuu can do a search for all the IVI drivers for DMMs that we have on www.ni.com/idnet. There isn't that many drivers (about 15). I'm not familiar with all the instruments in the list, but I think the smallest is our PCMCIA-4060 DMM, which you'd be able to use in a laptop. You can check the list of IVI drivers for DMMs and determine which one fits for needs.

• Looking for a file manager with copy queue

Hey,
I'm looking for a file manager with a file-copy-queue feature.
It is useful when browsing mounted samba shares, and you find something you want to copy.
You'll then start copying the files, and then spot another useful folder. You start copying that as well
and suddenly you got 5 different file copies processing at the same time, which decreases the copy speed.
I also miss the feature when transfering files from my external harddrives.
If there is a lot of FM's with this feature, I prefer one without kde-dependencies, as I am using xfce.

Ranguvar wrote:If MC really does have that as a feature, it's once again proved itself _the_ graphical (sorta) file manager.
sorry for misinformed.
mc has a background job option while copying, it is not exactly a queue like functionality, but simulating to be a queue, and you can stop/resume a background job.

• Looking for 12v car charger with AUX

When my 1st Gen Touch met an untimely end, I bought a 2nd Gen, only to find that my Belkin auto adapter with AUX adapter wouldn't charge the new Touch.
Any suggestions for alternatives? I'd seem some less than favorable reviews on the Apple Store site for the Kensington Liquid Aux.
What I'm looking for:
1) 12v adapter with AUX adapter.
2) no mounting arms, as in the DLO TransDock Direct or Griffin Tuneflex Aux. Unfortunately, my car's AUX input (and the 12V adapter I'd use) is in the center console, under the armrest. Anything with a thick arm won't let the armrest close--and something like the TransDock Direct won't even fit inside.
3) I'd like to avoid, if I can, anything with controls on the 12v adapter--again, it's inside the console, and I won't be able to access it.

• Looking for a 3g case with a belt clip

I don't like carrying my 3g around in my pocket, so I've been looking around for a case with a belt clip, but haven't had much luck finding one. I'm looking for something that comes with a hard case for the phone, and a clip I can just snap my phone into when I'm done using it. I have a nice incase case for it now, but I'd like to have something to clip it on my belt.

• Looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and powered via PoE

Hi Gurus,
I am looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and the access point can be powered via PoE. I have been assigned with a requirement where the rooms need to have access point as well as an Ethernet Cable provided from the Access Point as a backup for connectivity.
The room only has one data cable coming from the main IT room as well does not have a spare power socket to power the Access Point. Will be good if it can be centrally controlled or controller based.
Any recommendations?
Regards
J

For the backup plan, the cheapest solution may be to just run a couple new cat5e drops to the room(est cost $250). If not then purchase a small Cisco POE switch for the room(est cost $2k). For wireless I would purchase a POE enabled Cisco AP. But you will need to verify the POE switch/blade you will be connecting the AP to can power the AP you buy. I got burned by that issue when we purchased some Cisco 1251 AP's with dual radios and they needed more power than our 4500 POE blades could handle. We were told we would need to purchase new 48 port 10/100/1000 blades or power injectors. Our Cisco sales vendor took the heat for that mistake.

• Looking for a file manager with these features:

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a file manager that has the following features (in that order of importance):
- Designed with keyboard users in mind (but full mouse support also)
- Easily configurable
- Supports copying, moving, deleting and the usual operations
- Good search functionnality
- Can see a lot of files at once, does not take up too much room on screen
- Can tie certain file types to applications (ex. open .avi files with video player)
- Nice to look at
- [opt.] Can preview pictures (thumbnails or a preview pane)
Does such a file manager exist? What would you reccomend?
By the way, my current window manager is pekwm.
I am new to linux desktops, so this may change.

Hah, I was going to say exactly that... "keyboard users in mind? my file manager has some awesome hotkeys - like 'l' then 's' to list files, and 'c' then 'p' to copy, 'm' then 'v' to move, it goes on and on, and it has millions of 'plugins'!"
Yeah. I fell in love with linux because of the command line. But it's not always the best tool.
One advantage of graphical file managers is that they offer 'automatic ls': you always see the contents of your directory.
Also, yesterday I needed to move most files in one directory to another. They had varied names. This would have taken a long time with the command-line: I could have named the files one by one, or moved all of them and then name one by one the files that I want moved back. With a graphical file manager, I can select all files and then 'unselect' the ones I don't want to move with just a few clicks. It's faster and simpler. (Or maybe there's some really fancy CLI tool that I don't know about)
When choosing a tool for a job, first I look for the most ethical one, then the most practical one. In most cases I would say I prefer the command line, but sometimes a graphical interface is better. Computers are really good at both, so using both methods is the way I go.
I absolutely love your humour though, slackhack and phrakture. Keep it up!

• Help! looking for internet camera compatible with Mac

I need help! I purchased a Mac recently and so far I am very happy with it. However, we just had a baby and I'd like to see and hear my baby from my computer at work. At work we use PCs and at home we havea iBook G4. I bought a D-link wireless G internet camera, the DCS-950G, but I could not install it because it requires you to have a PC for initial installation. I've looked around the web but I've been unable to find an internet camera that works with the Mac. I am desperate and frustrated! Does aynone know of an wireless internet camera that works with the Mac? I'd greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.

Hello B Real Brad
You do not say which DV camcorder you have. The exact answers to your questions depend upon your camcorder's features and user guide instructions. If you experience problems when you try your camcorder, check your camcorder's users guide instructions. That having been said, here are the answers to your posted questions:> Do I need to have a firewire cable to successfully use it through iChat ...
Firewire will be easiest. If you have a Firewire cable to download your DV Video to iMovie, that one will work fine.
... or can I use the normal usb cable?
Depending upon your camcorder, that may work with additional software and or hardware, but, if your camcorder offers it, Firewire will me much easier.
.. is the quality ... better using a DV camcorder ... ?
Usually. This depends on which camcorder you compare with which webcam.
Some people like the image quality of their camcorders better. See John Kennedy's "Cameras and Image Quality", the Sat - October 30, 2004, blog for a comparison. (John's is a very high quality camcorder.)
See this link for my reasons for using a webcam when I do not need portability or highest possible quality. Some of the reasons may be of interest to you.For specifics on how to get going, see my recent response to Tony Keogh. Although Tony asks specifically about a particular Sony model, the specific suggestions I made there should apply to your camcorder, too.
If the above do not get you going, I suggest that you start your own topic and give as many specifics as possible about your system, your problem, and what you have already tried. Your questions deserve the individual attention they will get in a separate topic.
Here are a couple of other suggestions for your consideration:
(1) I see from your other posts that you use Miglia TVMini. Be aware that some AV devices and third-party items can cause possible hardware or software conflicts with iChat.
(2) Also, your system info shows that you are using 10.4.4. I suggest that you update to the latest available version of Tiger using the following method:- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC).
- Finish with another Permissions Repair. The latest Combo Update offers several additions and improvements over the older versions.
Cheers,
Jim

• Authorizations for BPS planning interface with global planning sequence

Hi Experts,
I am creating authorizations for BPS project. I have a web interface with BPS layout (excel) and after users enter data there is a global planning sequence to be triggered. However there is some authorization missing in my concept as I receive "no authorization to display data" message.
I have found authorization objects for BPS and put full access everywhere but it is still happening:
R_AREA
R_PLEVEL
R_PACKAGE
R_METHOD
R_PARAM
R_BUNDLE
R_PROFILE
R_PM_NAME
On different web interface without global planning sequence everything is ok and data is saved. If I use SAP_ALL I am able to save data also with the sequence so obviously I am missing some authorization. RSSM su53 and st01 don't show anything.
If you know something please advise.
Thank you.
