I'm in the market for a consumer oriented dv-vtr player. I've looked around but mostly I'm finding pro-players way out of my price range...
Any models that are extra good???

I think you will find that even the cheapest cost more than a high quality camera.
Many amateurs either use the camera they shoot with or buy a cheap camera to act as a VTR. You can get a good cheap one for a quarter the price of a proper VTR.

I personally do not know of a program to convert like you request but you might check out http://www.versiontracker.com for programs. "WireTap Pro" can capture audio from any internal source ( http://www.ambrosiasw.com/news/ ) Of course, you'd need a player for the RAM file...

I am looking for a multi user, searchable journal / log

I am looking for an app that will let 4 people create their separate journals or log. The intent is to create better communication and shift hand off. I would like it to be searchable with key words, and also a todo list for each user. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

wow there are lots of solutions without apps, but i believe if use an app instead of gmail accounts to share google docs, or outlook to share online documents and collaborate orojects, or to use microsoft exchange etc.one solution would be to allow up to five different emails to be used attached to your Apple ID, and to allow sharing all of the iWork suite files through the iCloud.

I think I would recommend BOX. I have just started using it and it seems very promising, and I am using the free version, which serves my purposes.
The service and it's interface, is quite extensive indeed. I'm so if you really are willing to pay for the pro are the super pro versions I think it is a very powerful tool if perhaps slightly expensive. It is fitted out with a heck of a lot of functionality.

I am a multitasker and use multiple apps in combination both fall the intended purposes which they were made for, and also for other purposes which I have invented myself, that the developers probably never thought of when they created those apps. Please let me know more details about how you wish to use and apply your methods with the app US seeking because I have spent many thousands of dollars on different paid apps to find the functionalities I need on my ios devices. I suffer from gout and arthritis, and my fingers are too sensitive to use a keyboard or mouse which makes my hands swell up and burn like heck. I have just found a way to both control my computer using the iPad as my mouse trackpad and keyboard, as well as using the iPad as a remote desktop which is also mouse and trackpad and keyboard built into one. This has relieved my hands from myinvalidity which as an author who spends up to 18 hours a day typing is a great relief. So that far some apps are not only usable for what the purposes they are stated.for example, I just use Keynote on the iPad to make a single slide with a master slide. But that master slide has become a motion graphics intro video for one of my YouTube channels as an MP4 video. This is not possible to convert from Keynote itself and I had to find an ulterior path to achieving my goal of obtaining a keynote presentation into an MP4 stream of both YouTube video.I have been working on various websites with collaborators who work for me who needs access to the files which I contribute for them to be able to finish that work with. but believe me I can give you lots of information about how to apply different apps to achieve goals with and also how to simplify things into try and reducing things to one device and one or as little apps as possible in order to collaborate your projects and get the files accessed and worked on without having to go the long way home, meaning having to use 10 apps could do something that you can do with one browser and one application on the MacBook or a computer. With mobile devices at least with Apple, it is different. There are many websites like YouTube which you can't even comment in the comments box on if you use Safari in iPad. So there are still problems with thisand of issue, meaning we still need to use Mac book and iMac to get our work done especially the big stuff like documentary movies and 4K super HD movies, which are the new thing.

I find is boring because I think it's more interesting to just show the end results of what can be achieved using Apple and his built-in products. I have been making movies to try and create something that looks smooth and professional on YouTube, but I'm still pretty amateur with it.
I used it to make my intros and to edit all the movies with and at sound files imported from GarageBand which I played the music myself all made the effects myself to avoid claims and issues with YouTube however, I opemed Keynote after having never having used PowerPoint, or any other kind of slideshow maker of presentation software in my whole life].I used it, for the first time yesterday and sat until 6 o'clock in the morning making myself busy and my eyes Bokel training myself from beginner to advanced in one evening. The result was an intro video that is multimedia multi layered, with transparencies, intro amd outros for each inserted element be that a picture, video, textbooks, or what ever.).I found I had made a truly moving dynamic video, and motion graphics that is a single Master slide, which one would think of normally as a still image in a series of slideshows like in PowerPoint.
However, I found out that I can use it to make beautiful motion graphics and explanatory video intros, which are approaching, even in my first attempt, something similar to how Apple videos look.
I thus concluded, logically when you consider it, that Apple of course, makeall their company media and video content, using their own software.
I then realized, that it was not iMovie, and Final Cut Pro, that they used to get those smooth flat translucent and futuristic effects which are beautiful in that simplicity.it is not those solutions which were used for many of the effects and presentations which we see in the videos found on Apple's website
it is indeed I have found since yesterday the ApplePowerPoint alternative,that has produced the most beautiful translucent and somehow flat but in tentatively deep interface of that presentations. Namely, Apple's keynote presentation software on the iPad.I was amazed and uploaded it to my YouTube channel on how to mockable as a demonstration of what can be achieved with Keynote and also to use as an intro for some of my videos which I will be making. Looking for a reliable NAS Solution for my Mac Pro?

I upgraded my Mac Pro to the new one when they first came out. I needed a place to house the hard drives that were in the previous machine. I purchased a NAS enclosure for four hard drives at Micro Center, but the connection often drops, freezes or crashes. I am really worried about this potentially damaging the hard drives in the NAS enclosure.
Can anyone recommend a good, reliable NAS enclosure that will support SATA hard drives up to 3TB each in capacity?

Create custom rule: Looking for ORA errors in the alert log

I would like to create a rule to notify me when ORA errors are generated to the alert log. When I try to create a rule, I seem to only be able to choose from predefined lists. Has anyone configured a rule for this?

The date part is a clickable link, click on it. Scroll to the bootom of the next page and click on:
"Generic Alert Log Error Monitoring Configuration"
Now read the page very carefully, its all self explanatory. The reason who haven't had some errors reported is because of that filter. Now set it up the way you want it.

FCP crash - looking for stability and speed and some logging advice

This is our first time on Final Cut and we're learning as we go.
Is there a good source (posting or web page) where we could learn how to set up the machine to make it more stable and fast?
Also, we're doing our transfers for a doc that we're working on. Is there a good place that will walk us through how we should be setting up the machine as well as logical logging and capturing?

Looking for cheap device to view VHS

I've done a quick search through the forums and haven't found an answer yet. I have an old pile of VHS tapes that I need to quickly scan through. I don't know whether there's anything worth saving (or if they have degraded enough to the point where they're no longer viewable), but I need a way to quickly plug in the old VCR into my MBP and casually go through them.
I've noticed a number of cheapie devices on the market. Can anyone recommend one that works well enough to just view them? If I find anything worth of value, I'll spring for better equipment later on (as I don't want to invest in a Grass Valley device at the moment), but for now I just want to go through the stack and put things into a bulk erasure pile as needed.

if you got the vcr, then i'd just hook it up to a tv. you can pick up an older analog, like a 13" or so at a goodwill or salvation army / similar resale shop. they are littered with them. now for converting, elgato makes a basic usb input under $100. the eyetv hybrid costs $50 more, but adds ota hdtv & fm tuner. grass valley is about the only one that still makes a firewire input box that doesn't cost a fortune. blackmagic also has some good stuff. I picked up a matrox mini, but it's an expresscard interface. hope to see some good boxes come out for this thunderbolt port...

Looking for a reliable bigger Hard Drive for MacBook

Hi all, I'm running out of space on my MacBook so I'm in the market for a bigger maybe faster Hard Drive, I understand it have to be a 2.5 inch ATA Fujitsu. My wish is to get a 1TB but 500GB or so will do it. I also understand it came with a 5400 RPM and wondering if would be a problem to install a faster 7200 RPM. Please if you have a model or brand you trust, I will appreciate your advice.

Another question for this thread. This regarding backing up the primary HD. I started with my PC because it is in the most danger of crashing. I used ¨CLONE¨ to my external hard drive. My understanding is that this will give me a backup external HD with everything, including applications, settings, data, pictures, mail and all, just in case I need to restore an entire hard drive, as has happened before.
The backup software also has a program for "IMAGE" although the instructions do not say what is the difference. Can you tell me the difference?
It seems to me that in past times, when I thought I backed up everything, the applications were not backed up and I lost any that I had downloaded from the Internet or that I lost the original discs. In one instance I did not lose the original disc, but the required license number. (Microsoft XP and I've lost it again) Try to convince Microsoft you lost that number you need to load XP! I am unsure of what backup software I was using and once it was a technician in Best Buy doing the backup of the PC to change the hard drive.
I have not started new with my MacBook, since it has proven reliable and I have the important things backed up in various ways, if not the best way yet.
So, I am asking what is the difference, if any, between CLONE and IMAGE in backup software language? Also, will EVERYTHING, including applications, settings etc. be backup.

Looking for a reliable modem to connect to an Airport Express

Hey Everybody,
I've got an Apple Express connected to an (ISP supplied) D-Link modem/router than is really not happy about it. I'm getting the impression that D-Link routers just hate Apple products on a deep and personal level, as if there is an ancient vendetta we're all not aware of.
The D-Link has a PC and the Airport connected to it and there is an iMac upstairs connected to the Airport.
The old D-link has been dropping the connection to the airport for no apparent reason. I'll do a power cycle and reset some settings to it get going again but a day or two later it just decides it's had enough and boots it.
At first i thought it was an IP issue so i set all the addresses and that got it working for a few weeks before it dropped out again. Now i can't get it to recognise a connection at all.
I know the D-Link is recieving a signal (the light on the connection point flashes) and the iMac can establish an ethernet connection...it just can't get internet access. i have been pulling my hair out for weeks trying to sort this out. the only good thing that has come out of it so far is that i've learnt quite a lot about setting up routers (i started knowing nothing, now i know slightly more than nothing).
two questions;
is there something i'm missing that would fix this that is blindingly obvious to intelliigent people but beyond my reach as a network novice?
do i just have a crappy modem? can anyone recommend a better one?

You will need to find a place where you can connect the computer to the internet so you can restore the iPhone - no way around that at this point.
Were you using your iPhone's hotspot as the internet connection for the computer to download and install an update on that very same iPhone that was providing the internet connection? If so, honestly, that was not a smart thing to do at all. In order to apply the downloaded update,the phone had to restart and disconnect - it could not possible install an update without doing that.
Regardless, it is now in recovery mode. The only way to recover it is to restore it with iTunes on your computer and that will require an internet connection.

Prosumer looking for the right desktop to edit hd footage...

I have a question for all of you, but before I ask the question I have searched high and low for an answer to my question and although I've found people in similar situations, I need to find an answer for my specific needs. Okay here it goes, I have an had camera Sony Sr11 and I want to edit the footage, somewhat flawlessly, I want it to run as smooth as possible b/cuz my current laptop (dell 1520 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, non-dedicated graphics) isn't cutting it. I'm not a film student or anything I just like to make movies it's a hobby and I do it for family and friends that sort of thing. I intend on using final cut express to get that particular job done, I also have thousands of photos..and I don't plan on putting them on the hard drive of my computer, they're kept in an external hard drive. I like to edit those as well I wanted to use aperture for that. So the two main programs I want to use are final cut express hd and aperture...now for the third thing...I do a little gaming and I mean a little..I play sims 2 and I want to eventually play sims 3...so I want a computer that can run those games at the highest settings...compared to other games I don't think that's asking much but I don't want medium settings I want high settings...
So those are my main concerns...running final cut express, aperture, sims 2 and eventually sims 3...should I get the new Imac 24" 3.06 Ghz or should I bite the bullet save a little longer and get the mac pro with an external screen maybe hp or dell...oh and one more question do you have to be a "computer major" to get the adc discount b/cuz I'm a pharmacy student???

the discount is available to any one who's a registered student w/ a valid ID- check w/ your school bookstore, take your ID to an Apple Store or check out the Education Store here on apple.com for the requirements. the current iMacs are so new, there may not be anyone who has used it for gaming.... but you might want to check MacWorld in a few days to see if they have new Benchmark tests or Reviews that may help you decide about gaming or just keep the Dell for gaming. to edit the HDD, AVCHD, any not tape-based video over Firewire, you will need an Intel Mac & i suggest you get as much RAM as you can afford, try Crucial or OWC to get it for way less than Apple.

Apologies if this has already been answered.
I am looking for cheap, reliable RAM for my MBP to upgrade from 512 to 1GB from a UK site or seller.
I have found my MBP no quicker in generl than my 12" PB with 512ram.......am guessing that the dual core takes more muscle to get the best out of it?
Many of the posts are for US sellers/sites.
Any info or advice would be appreciated as I have no clue about this stuff.

Looking for a copy of Appleworks

I am new here and am looking for a reliable source where I can purchase Appleworks. I am not interested in a copied version but want an original. I am new to the MAC (had an Apple ll with works in the early to mid 80's) and would like an original disk from Apple. I have read where some folks have problems and others do not so any advice you folks have would be greatly appreciated. Actually, I purchased 2 Macs last month: 1 iMAC and a MAC Pro for my wife so perhaps I need 2 disks? Also, are the updates still available? I know Apple discontinued support some time ago. We both have iWork but find it somewhat lacking, or maybe we just need to get used to it. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You could try eBay and do a search for "AppleWorks" or "Apple Works" (some people put a "space" in the name). Hardcore Mac sells AppleWorks 6.2.4.
FYI: Apple Macintosh computers are referred to as Mac (capital M, small a, small c), not MAC (which is an acronym for the Media Access Control address of a networking device).
