Looking for Classic Mac OS QuickTime 6.0.2 Full Install

Hello:
I would like to finally resolve a problem I've had for several years. When I upgraded to QuickTime 6.0.3 a couple of .avi files which played fine with QuickTime 6.0.2 do not work correctly. About 30 seconds into the clips, the video stops. Audio continues fine. I am also unable to convert the files to another format because of a "compression error." Since I know these files worked when I had QT 6.0.2 I would like to downgrade so I can convert the files.
I've looked for a long time, but have been unable to find the Classic Mac OS QT 6.0.2 Full Install file anywhere. Does someone have this? Of course this would be the one file that I do not have a backup.
TIA!

The name of the Apple downloads file for QT 6.0.2 was probably something very close to this:
QuickTime602_Installer.smi.bin
Have you tried searching among those old legacy file downloads on the Apple downloads? I know they are sometimes hard to find and reasonable searches using the Apple search often gets one no where. You might try googling for the old quicktime and get into the Apple downloads through the "back door" so to speak.

I have a client who has been using Now to Date on her Mac.  That program is now obscure and she is looking for software that is extremely similar.  She has tried Outlook for Mac and it is too labor-intensive for her.  She wants a professional look, and something that is not linked to e-mail as she works with a lot of proprietary information.  Help?

I could not identify that app in macupdate.com. If a Calendar program, what about iCal? did she try it and disliked? If you go to macupdate.com, and type ‘calendar’ in seach filed, you will be given a lot of apps, you or she should test what it most appropriate for your/her needs.

  • Looking For Strong Mac Case

    Hi,
    I have a 13" MacBook Air, Mid 2013.
I am really worried about dropping my MacBook and breaking it. I am looking for a reasonably priced have duty case, like the ones that snap on to it and I have full flexibility of the hinge and that.
Could anyone recommend a good case for my Mac.
    Thanks.

Having tried every brand out there, I can honestly say that Booq is one of the best!

  • Lion for classical mac users

I have a question about using Lion in a "classical" setting.  What I mean is this.  I don't have an iphone, don't use iTunes, haven't visited the App store.  I have nothing against these things, they are just not in my ecosystem.  I am a power user who does CAD, spreadsheets, some iPhoto catalogging of pictures, occasional picture editing in Gimp (since my G5 copy of PS aged out).
My question is this.  Will Lion be as usable for a non touch user as Snow Leopard?

    >My real question is "what is in Lion for the user who doesn't/can't do the latest 'touch' stuff".  Is it faster, smaller, more powerful doing the ordinary things?
From the appearances Lion has some features that will certainly appeal to non-multitouch people as well:
    1. The ability to copy/paste from one revision of a document to another changes that were lost to a previous editing.
    2. The ability to manage window size from more than just one corner.
    3. Mission control gives tighter integration of applications and windows with the old Spaces feature.
    4. The launcher makes launching applications and folders as simple as the iPad.  The rebirth of the old Mac OS 9 Launcher as far as I can tell.  Yes, third party utilities have supported this feature since Mac OS 9 stopped being available, but some may find it easier to use.
    5. Full screen applications.
    6. Easier application switching and window switching.
    7. Better accessibility features for hearing and sight impaired.
    8. Tighter integration with internet social networking sites.
    9. Easier file network sharing.
    10. Auto-save across the board, and not just for applications which support it.
    11. Full Disk encryption with File Vault.  I still caution against this, in event your data should ever get corrupted that makes the encryption possible.  A physical backup in a secure location is still better.
    12. More sorting features for Finder files. 13. Auto launching of last state of the machine before shut down.
And much more you can read about here:

  • New iMac looks for old Mac tower

I purchased a new iMac recently and used Migration Assistant to move my Documents folder over from my old G5 Tower. To the best of my memory, I did not use Migration Assistant to move system files or applications over to the iMac.
Once I thought I had everything configured just right, 3 things occured where the new iMac was looking for the old G5 Tower:
    (1) at startup, a dialog twice appeared, indicating that the old G5 could not be found. I used the Accounts/Log In Items to disable start up items that were "unidentified." First problem solved.
    (2) When I try to print, the iMac looks for my old G5 when I first try to access a pulldown menu in the print dialog window, and after quite awhile an alert message appears indicating that the G5 server is unavailable. I've tried deleting all installed printers and then reinstalling them, to no avail.
    (3) In my folder windows, under the Places list, there is a favorite folder that is repeated twice, one that links to the "04_FT" folder on the new iMac, and an identically named item that does not function as a link (but a folder with this name did live on the old G5) and I'm unable to remove it from the list. When I Control click on it, the only option I get is to "Open Sidebar Preferences."
I suspect that both (2) and (3) are similar "ghost" references back to the old G5, but I don't know how to remove them.
I would very much appreciate any help or suggestions that the iMac community might have to offer.

I would recommend starting over and instead of using Migration Assistant this time using Setup Assistant. They are cousins, similar but different. First SA is more reliable and second it will not create a second user account. Because you are migrating from a PPC machine I would migrate everything EXCEPT applications. You should manually install your apps, this will give you the opportunity to udate the ones that need it and I'm sure there are many. You may even apps that won't run on Intel based machines so why migrate them at all? You can use the Setup Assistant tips beginning at "Second chance...." You can either restore from your old machine or from one of it's backups. I think you'll see it's a pretty clean process, something you passed over (I'm not sure why) when  you turned on the new iMac for the first time.

  • Looking for automated way to test print PnP printer after install then delete

At times we test 20 to 30 printers in a day. I am looking for automated ways to increase the efficiency of this. I would like to simply have the printer install using PnP print a test page then delete itself after the test page or on removal. Are there any settings that can be changed on the computer to change the PnP process to make this possible. I am currently trying to learn and understand the Plug and play process so that I may find out how to get started. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I spent all day Googling and doing side by side comparisons of my old and new systems.
My display is a Dell U2410. It has several presets, including sRGB and Adobe RGB. I've been using sRGB.
On my OLD system, (Win XP, PsCS2, DwCS4) there seems to be no distinction between color managed and non color managed apps, even on this wide gamut display. I could capture (digital camera) in Adobe RGB, open and edit in PsCS2, save as .psd, convert to CMYK for print, or convert to sRGB for SFW. All images looked identical and they printed and displayed perfectly. I thought this was normal, and seemed logical. This also seems to be the source of my incorrect assumptions. I was trying to get my new machine to behave like my old one.
So I get this new machine (Windows 7, PsCS5, DwCS5) and now (still in sRGB display mode) all color managed apps appear de-saturated. Non color managed apps are OK. If I switch the display to Adobe RGB, color managed apps are OK, but non color managed apps are way too saturated. From my investigation, I believe this is normal behavior on a wide gamut display. I've tried changing the Control Panel > Display > Screen Resolution > Advanced settings > Color Management options, but to no avail. Either I'm missing something, or Windows 7 is doing color management differently.
It seems my only option now is to use Adobe RGB display setting for Ps, etc. and switch to sRGB for Dw and non color managed apps. Or, have 2 separate files for print and web. I've Googled 'til my eyes are numb and still not sure I'm getting this. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I don't see an edit function here, so I can't remove my previous incorrect reply. Moderator, please feel free to do so.
    Thanks

  • Quicktime 7.x.x Full Install for Panther 10.3.9

    Hello
As my PowerMac G5 just blew a power supply I had to dig out my old B&W G3 which has been updated with a G4 550MHz processor, running Panther. I thought I would update Quicktime Pro 6 to Quicktime 7 fot Panther. I was unable to view my tutorial videos so this was my motivation.
I downloaded QT 7.5 for Panther but after installing, rebooting, & repairing permissions QT bounces a couple of times in the dock, the beachball spins, and the drive whirs like crazy but to no avail. Quicktime is seen by Force Quit, which I have to do but Software Update does not see it.
I've since tried installing v7.4.1, 7.3.x & 7.1 using Pacifist but nothing has changed.
I suspect that the problem occured because I went from v6 to v7 without a full install for v7. In any event does anyone know where I might be able to download a full install of Quicktime 7 for Panther ?
    Thanks
    Tim

    John:
Panther is a very stable OS, and although Tiger offers some new features you can likely live very well withough spotlight and widgets. I run Tiger on my G3 Pismo, but hesitated a long time before I did, because I liked Panther so well.
I concur with donny, that staying where you are is not a bad idea, especially if you don't have the money to spare. Also, whether you upgrade your OS or not you'd get a better payoff putting a bit of money in upgrading your RAM.
    Good luck.

  • Looking for the Mac OS 9 iDisk Public Folder icon

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm creating an icon set of Mac OS 9 icons for OS X. I've been able to locate the regular iDisk icon, as it's stored in the Mac OS 9 "System" file. But, what I can't seem to locate is the iDisk Public folder icon. I found a pic of what it looks via Google Images:
    http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/eisnerguy1/iDiskPublicFolder.png
If anyone could help me out, that'd be awesome

    Hi, Alex -
If you are accessing iDisk while booted to OS 9, you are probably using the utility Goliath to do so.
The icon you reference looks much like those in the set used by Goliath, which can be found in the icl8 resource in the Goltiath program.
Tip - in OS 9, when you copy-paste an icon to a folder to give the folder a custom icon, an invisible file named "icon" is created and placed in the folder. This invisible file contains the "icl" family of resources for the custom icon. This resource is easily opened using ResEdit, and perhaps by other icon manipulation utilities, and eliminates a lot of the clutter associated with opening a program in ResEdit to get to the icl resources.
Because of changes to the icon formats ResEdit itself no longer works well in OS 9.1 and later for alteration or modification of an icon. However, there is a utility that will allow you to create custom icons or modify existing ones -

You'll need to purchase unless someone donates one to you. It is illegal to copy and distribute  Apple OS disks.

When combined with a M.2 to PCIe adapter, the Samsung XP941 provides class-leading storage performance in desktop machines and is also fully bootable in all cMP Mac Pro models (2006-2012, excluding the 'tube' model). See the table at the bottom of this page for approximate throughput figures.

To use this SSD in a desktop machine or cMP Mac Pro (all 2006-2012 models prior to the current cylindrical shaped one), you will need a free PCIe slot, and an M.2 to PCIe adapter. Booting is supported in the Mac Pro.
Note, system boot on Windows desktop PC's is only supported on certain Z97 and X99 chipset-based motherboards with built-in M.2 sockets. Booting with the XP941 is not currently supported in a Windows PC with the XP941 drive in conjunction with the adapter , but it works perfectly without drivers as a storage drive.
Review our M.2 SSD compatibility list blog post if you are not sure if this drive is compatible in your machine.
    You might also need....
A M.2 (NGFF) to PCIe adapter card - so you can install this drive in a standard desktop case or Mac Pro tower computer.
A PCIE M.2 SSD to USB 3.0 external enclosure - so you can clone, copy, or retrieve data from this drive or an existing one already in your system.
    * To achieve maximum throughput in the 2008 Mac Pro, one or two of the PCIe 2.0 x16 slots must be used. These models have two x16 PCIe 2.0 slots and two x4 PCIe 1.0 slots. The latter PCIe 1.0 slots will only allow up to 585-753MB/s data transfer rates.
    Data Throughput Rates
Throughput rates are provided in the table below. See the performance notes regarding slower PCIe 2.0 x2 and PCIe 1.0 slots
** From the review at barefeats.com: "Using the 'Expansion Slot Utility' in the System/Library/CoreServices folder, we reconfigured the PCIe slot speeds to various combinations of 4, 8, and 16 lane slots to benchmark the XP941. The transfer speeds above were achieved using the 4 lane slots. The 8 lane and 16 lane slots did not produce any faster transfer speeds. On other other hand, if you use a 1 lane slot, the transfer speeds drop to 200MB/s READ and 170MB/s WRITE. We tested with both OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. OS X Tiger kernel panicked at startup. Though we didn't try it, it should also work with OS X Lion, the last Mac OS to be officially supported on the 2006 Mac Pro."

  • Looking for most Mac-compatible Multi-function

I've been using an HP OfficeJet 7410 as my multi-function, and while it worked fine with a PC, it has one large flaw when used with a Mac: scanning to a .pdf from the document feeder results in cutting off text at the bottom of the page. (Note: it doesn't do this when scanning from the glass - only from the feeder.)
I've tried all sorts of remedies, but none works, and I've started seeing posts on various forums in which Mac users complain about this, so it seems to be some sort of incompatibility.
Which leads me to seek advice in finding the best multi-function (print, copy, scan and fax) with document feeder, and duplex printing ... for use with a Mac. I don't do much photo printing - mostly text - but good photo quality would be nice to have.
    Any advice?

What do you want it to be able to do with your mac? At this time there isn't really anything else. Motorolla has 2 that it worked with apple on but they are extremely limited. Other than that most phones will support music and such via simple drag and drop with USB connection.
