Looking for "Dry Brush" effect in After Effects
Hi, I'm new to After Effects (CS4), and can't find an effect. Hopefully it exists. Photoshop has an "artistic effect" called Dry Brush. It is not anything using brush strokes or actully painting on the screen. What it does is filter the whole frame to make the image look like it was painted. When used at its lowest settings, it removes all small blemishes in a frame, all subtleties in color, and sharpens edges so that it really looks like an oil painting. The result is similar to a "cartooning" plug-in, but less intrusive. I'm hoping that After Effects has a way to apply this sort of effect to whole video clips, not just frame by frame. Perhaps it has a different name in After Effects; perhaps there is a plug-in. I can't find anything like it. Any suggestions?

You can do this kind of effect pretty easily using some subtle settings in the cartoon effect or using some color correction tools with harsh settings. Variations of color can be build with Mosaic, Cell, Turbulent Displace, Fractal Noise etc. used on top or as displacments.... The edges can be done using simple Find edges and Roughen Edges. you just need to work with multiple layers and apply the effects selectively, then use blending modes to bring it all together.

Error Code: 34 Mac OSX 10.8.4 for Photoshop CC, Bridge CC, After Effects CC, and Flash CC

So I am installing all the CC versions of the software and all but Photoshop, Bridge, After Effects, and Flash installed without a hitch. On those 4 programs I get the same error code: 34. I am able to install the CS6 variants of them without any problem and run it. Here is the error code:

I have been unable to fix this on my own and with what I've found online. I'll list what I have done so far to try to fix this issue. I have tried to use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool but the issue is since PS, BR, AE, and FL won't install I can't clean them to try a fresh install. I tried installing the CS6 versions to see if it would dowload the 'Camera Profiles Installer_8.1".
Any help on fixing this ASAP would be much appreciated!

Looping effects in After Effects?
Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to loop an effect in after effects. Let me explain more. I'm creating a scene with changing colors, the best look for me was using
the Hue/Saturation effect. I would just key frame it and change the color every 5 frames, this gives me a quick color change. The thing is, its tedious to key frame it
every 5 frames for the entire clip. It would be better if I could some how loop it through the entire clip. I basically want to animate it for about 30 frames and than
take that animation and loop it for the rest of the clip.

Create two key frames say at 01:00 and 02:00. Now copy the two key frames and paste at 02:01. Now you will have four key frames with one loop.
In Effects Control panel, Alt click on Channle range(if you are animating Master Hue), Click on the small arrow button to open Expression Language. Go to Property and choose
loopOut(type="cycle", numKeyframes=0): .
This will create a loop animation of your two key frames.

Puddle and reflection effects in After Effects CS4
I am currently using After Effects CS4 (will be upgrading to CS6 in a couple of days) and I am currently trying out a test project using basic lighting animation. However, one element I want to create is a puddle on the ground. I was wondering if anybody here could advise on creating a puddle and its effects in After Effects, such as wave movements, reflection (particularly background elements) and whether I should use the basic pen tool or use some sort of diffusion maps. If I wanted to make things a little more complicated, then how can I create rain effects to hit the ground plane without it looking like a screen filter and have it influence the puddle?
If any of you would be able to point me out to some other tutorials on the web, I would be very grateful for that.GenArts' Monsters GT has a Puddle 3D effect that is quite okay for that. Beyond that I don't see how we should advise specifically without a reference image. There's a million types of puddle from still and murky flat ones to deep asphalt holes to wavy large ones on fields and how "real" they look will ultimately depend on their context.

Adobes After effects is something which has been my favourite when it comes to creating motion graphics in the process of film making.
Creativity is onething which gets stucked in my mind whenever i think of graphics.
Based upon my knowledge and the craze of creating something out of my creative mind, I decided to make few videos out of after effects using some special effects.
However in the process of creation, I faced 1 big problem and that is the rendering time. And few other times, the entire application got crashed all of a sudden again i had to restart the application. My search for the solution brought me upto this page. In the meantime I learnt 1 method of reducing the rendring time (atleast by 30%) and that is by the use of proxies inside after effects.

We can make it a lot more complicated with something like liquefy, or even Time Displacement. -

I would like to get better control over Zooming. The Zooming I found in AE did not function when
dragged it into my effects controller...Is the only Zoom control really the "Scale" as found in Prem-Pro?
I could not find it in AE. I wanted to zoom over the shoulder of my actor and concentrate on what my Actor is looking at/pointing at. I could not find where that effect is at in AE.
If you know of a couple good tutorials to watch that show how to control the effecst in After-Effects it would be welcomed and appreciated. If you know the specific path to use to pan and

Trimming HD video files for export from Windows to After Effects on a MAC
Hi,
I have some .MTS files created using 2 HD camcorders:
1) Panasonic HDC-TM700 which shoots full HD @ 1920 x 1080 and
2) JVC Everio GZ-HM550 which shoots the same HD resolution
I am working with PP CS5 on Windows 7
I need to trim some small pieces (5 -10 seconds) out of many of the .MTS files to send to someone using After Effects MAC and FC Pro
In trying to keep the highest HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, the number of choices to select when creating a new sequence and then when exporting from PP is confusing.
Note: I notice that 2 clips I have in my PP project bin at the same time have different frame rates which I believe that 1 each came from my different cameras:
file 1) 29.97fps 48000hz compressed stereo
file 2) 59.94fps 48000hz compressed 5.1
Can anyone guide me here on sequence and export settings & codecs to maintain the HD resolution and least loss of quality on export?
Will the 2 different frame rates prior to export cause any issues? I'm assuming PP will re-interpret for output.

You misunderstand. The files are compressed. But they're compressed without losing any information. Losslessly compressed movies are a lot smaller than uncompressed movies---but they're still bigger than movies compressed with a lossy codec that would be more suitable for final delivery and distribution.

I tend to work on individual clips that are from several seconds to a few minutes long. They're usually a small number of GB each. Don't fret about large file sizes for intermediate files. Making movies small matters when you're streaming them for final delivery, not when you're handing over a hard disk or using an FTP server to exchange files for post-production work. -

You have to be from another world to believe these requirements. Note the last optional statement. Up to and including CS4 this stated:

Nobody in his right mind believes that system requirements get lower over time. It is purely a marketing lie to artificially lure prospective buyers.
The requirement to have two physical disks for CS6 is bogus.
If anything is bogus, it is the system requirements from Adobe and only fools would try to use a system with these minimum requirements, like this:
Pentium 4 with 4 GB of RAM, 24.5 GB of hard disk space is enough according to them.
Harm is confusing editing with getting high PPBM scores, I am afraid - again. Not all projects have 10 layers of H.264 stacked with heavy effects for two hours straight. The vast majority of editing is simple transitions and effects with 10 minutes of YouTube encoding twice a week.

And however much you dislike the PPBM benchmark, it is the only available tool to show how well a system is setup and in balance. I do timelapses. I grade in Lightroom, create xmps, then drag the folder containing the CR2s and xmps from the Finder window into After Effects to create the sequence.
I was post-processing timelapses in After Effects on April 7th, 2014. I then receive an update notification for Camera Raw 8.4.0.199. I closed all open apps and updated. Once the update had finished, I reopened the same project in After Effects, to find that After Effects no longer supports CR2 (Canon RAW).
Can't work with old projects containing CR2, likewise can't import new folders from the Finder window by clicking and dragging, or otherwise. Can't even import a single still CR2 file into After Effects since updating.

Though this workflow may be valid from this point on, I unfortunately have a library of around 11 TB of CR2 images that I use on a regular basis in After Effects. Going back and converting these images to DNG or JPEG would equate to an immesurable amount of time lost, not to mention the massive amount of additional hard drive space that would be required.
I've used this workflow on an almost daily basis for two and half years. I've only experienced a similar problem when Lightroom upgraded to version 5. AdobeCameraRaw was buggy when linking to other Adobe apps, but the problem was soon taken care of by Adobe.
Adobe still advertises CR2 support for After Effects 11 on their website. It worked without a hitch until the recent update.
Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Can anyone tell me where the default location is for the disc cache in After Effects CS6?
I recently changed the location of the disc cache in After Effects CS6 but I failed to empty the cache before changing the location and I need to delete all of the old cached files. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS.

Viable options for having just Photoshop and After Effects?
I have the single app plan for $20/mo, for After Effects. I've come to realize that I would like, as well as I kind of need, Photoshop. However, I don't wish to purchase the complete plan ($50/mo). I noticed there is a Photography plan for $10/mo, however since I already have a plan I'm unsure as to how I would go about getting two plans, or if there is a way to add on to my current plan. If I have the Photography and the Single App plan together it would be $30/mo, and I would have everything I need for $20 less than the complete.
Any viable options, advice, or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Code completion and formatting
Hi, The code completion works only for the objects not for keywords. Also for the case seems to be fixed during code completion? It would be nice to have code completion for both keywords and objects with case configuration. It would save a lot of ti
