Looking for games that work on an old comp

I've set up an emachine that has 128mb of ram and a 900mhz celeron processor to run openbox and a few other things. Really, it runs rather well, and I've only had it use swap when I'm compiling something while browsing the net with a few other things open.
Anyway, I wanted to know what games I can run on it, other than xtris, xboard, and emulators (that includes WINE). Does linux have any firstperson shooters or adventure games that can run well on such old architecture?

XEvil is quite nifty, and it ran smoothly on my old 700 MHz pIII with 128 MB of RAM.
[EDIT]
The package in AUR doesn't build, so I think you have to use a dated, official build. The issue with this build, is that you can't set the keyboard controls graphically; if you want custom keyboard controls, you have to do it through the file ~/.Xresources like described somewhere on this page.

  • Looking for app that works like a guitar trainer

Anyone know if there's an app that lets you play back iTunes music but slowed down without changing the key? So I can learn guitar pieces...
    Thanks

Have a look at the ones I posted here they are a more traditional kind of ring rather than old fashioned ones though.

  • Is there a program that works like the old iPhoto?

Is there a program that works like the old iPhoto?
The old iPhoto is my ideal program. Unfortunately, it does not work on my new operating system. I like having the ability to look over my images with a slide show. However, the new package folder does not give me complete access to my pictures. Is there a program that will have both slide show with music options, and the general folder for the files? I heard that Picasa was supposed to have a general folder, but it is using the iPhoto package.
I have looked over the solutions to getting access to images from the iPhoto package mentioned in the discussion forum. I would like a simpler system that works like the old iPhoto. Is this a possibility? I do not feel comfortable putting my original photo files into a system that does not let me look at the file information, and I would like to have the original benefits of iPhoto tools.
    Thank you for your time.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The current iPhoto is laid out specifically the way it is because of folks like you
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Even in the old iPhoto it was never correct to access the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, the new package folder does not give me complete access to my pictures.
This is untrue. Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
    There they all are.
Standard Warning which applies to every version of iPhoto: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I do not feel comfortable putting my original photo files into a system that does not let me look at the file information
What information are you missing? If you can tell us we may be able to help you more.

  • Javascript games that work in IE don't work in Firefox - why?

Why can't I get javascript games that work in IE to work in Firefox? The javascript games show up on the page but not in the correct format and the scripts don't work. An example is here: http://www.cornwallfoodandfarming.net/games/KS1-summer-in-farm3/picture-memory.htm
When you open it in IE you can see what it should do!
    Any help gratefully received. Cheers...Paul

That particular game was created a long time ago... in the age of Netscape version 4.
Netscape version 4 had proprietary objects named layers that are no longer supported in Firefox, so the game fails because it assumes that Firefox supports layers. You can see this if you open Tools > Error Console and scroll to the end of the long list after clicking the link to start the game.
If you think the developers of this site might be willing to update the game, let them know about this problem.
If not, and the game is very important to you, you could try Chris Pederick's User Agent Switcher extension (Tools > Add-ons > Get Add-ons) to make Firefox temporarily masquerade as an old version of Internet Explorer. There's no guarantee that will make the game work in Firefox, but it has a better chance than what you get now.

  • IM app for Playbook that works with iPhones?

Is there still no instant messaging app that will work between a Blackberry Playbook and an iPhone? Since Playbooks still don't run OS 10 there seems no hope in sight >.<

Hmm, I'm not to sure about that (no cradle), as I saw a cradle from a BMW post and it was for an iPOD (about a few years ago), the cig lighters are not such a good idea, I know someone that works at Apple and he says they get returned all the time as there is to much noise.
So, there has to be something seeing how it's set up for Sirius, and there was a CRADLE and since SIRIUS is offering a program soon for the iPhone, and its coming from Sirius, there must be a manufature that is planning on a cradle.
On the current cradle, there is a LINE OUT and one other (not line in) which looks like (both) are the 1/8th mini jack(s), same as iPhone.
Ideas besides cigarette lighter? Does anyone have a cigarette lighter method for 3G that works without noise? Or where else can I post, look?
    Thanks

  • Looking for something that converts various file formtats to TIFF

    Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a project where I am expected to convert numerous files of various formats into 1 multipage pdf and 1 multipage tiff.
I've been messing around a lot with iText (which i liked a lot because of how it was free) and I see how it can very nicely convert a multipage TIFF to a multipage PDF.
Hence, I am looking for something that can convert files of various formats (i.e. doc, txt, jpg, pdf) to a multipage tiff.
    Thank you very much.

Uh-huh. So what on earth would possess you to ask that question on a forum devoted to Java sound?
I hope that a mod. might notice this thread and move it to a more appropriate forum.
And since I am here, the Java forum for TIFFs would be JAI. Try looking through some threads there, for tips.

  • Looking for game recommendations (Pantech Crux)

So, I'd love to have a game or two available for times when I've got a bit of time to kill. I'd prefer some sort of puzzle game.
I bought mahjong... and I can't believe how bad it is. I played it for about a minute, and I doubt I'll even bother opening it up again. I should have just used that $7 to light my fireplace or something - it would have at least been somewhat useful. I didn't expect the quality of games on my Crux to be anywhere near what I get on my iPod touch 4, but I was hoping for something at least passable. The game itself is ridiculously tiny because screen real estate is taken up by the silly D-pad controls. It's incredibly tedious having to use the D-pad control to move a cursor: up-up-up-left-left-left... I'm almost to the tile that I want, then it snaps to some other one that I didn't want.
So, are there any games that I can get for the Crux that actually use the touch screen the way they should? (Not just turning my touch screen into a virtual version of some crappy phone from a decade ago).
    Thanks!

So, are there any games for the Crux that will actually use the touch screen properly (puzzle, or anything at all)?? Anyone with a Crux have any games that work well?

  • Looking for a way to locally archive old personal e-mails

    Hi Everybody,
As the subject states, I'm trying to figure out the best way to fetch old e-mail off the imap e-mail service I have, and store it locally.  I know that almost every mail client that supports imap can do this, but I'm looking for something that will be largely independant of the client (2 or 3 years ago I was doing this with thunderbird, but then switched to evolution, evolution would attempt to import the mail from thunderbird but would fail, so that old mail is now somewhat hard for me to get at, I want to avoid a repeat, especially since I change preferred mail clients rather often).  I'm also hoping for something with a relatively simple storage scheme, so I can backup up the files easily to external media and restore them even if I lose my operating system. I'm also hoping that I don't actually have to setup my own mail server to do this, but if that's what it takes, I'll do it.
    Any suggestions?

The thing is there are different storage formats (mbox for example), and not all *nix clients use the same storage format - Thunderbird e.g. uses some kind of mbox, but mbox formats aren't necessarily mutually interchangeable...
Up till now I trust Google more than myself when it comes to backup capabilities .

  • Looking for software that allows CMS integration with InDesign.

Looking for catalog production people who have already found a solution to this problem.
We have a content management system that serves as our data warehouse for our catalog and product information. This data includes information from Marketing, Accounting, and Engineering and is used with our on line catalog and data extracts for customers. Our goal is to extend the use of this system to include an interface to the printed catalog process.
Immediate goal would be to provide keyed access by product key into InDesign for pricing and technical specifications. Design staff needs to have keyed access to additional catalog information used in the catalog sections, headings, and product descriptions including bullets and paragraph information.
We are looking for software that can act as a "bridge" between InDesign and our CMS. We need a software company that can provide training and support for the InDesign users and documentation allowing IT to support new processes including the possible use of apple scripting and automator scripts.
Our IT staff has the database skills to manage and change the CMS database as needed by this project including custom tables and views. Our CMS is available using a MySql server running on Lunix. This is a dynamic copy of our primary CMS from a DB2/400 server.
We have looked at a variety of software packages, but I have found you learn so much more when you actually USE the software. I would like to avoid any more expensive dead ends.
    Thanks for any input.

  • Is there an "insert all links" type of feature or add-on for Firefox that works with Thunderbird?

    Hello Firefoxies,
Is there an "insert all links" type of feature or add-on for Firefox that works with Thunderbird or any email app? I want to be able to insert all the links from a Firefox bookmarks folder automatically in to an outgoing email and include the names that I have given to those saved links / bookmarks.
I searched for this add-on on the Firefox and the Thunderbird sites, but I don’t think the one that I found is for what I am thinking of.
What I would like to do is to be able to add all the links in a saved tabs folder, or any bookmarks folder, from Firefox in to the body of an outgoing email preferably in Thunderbird, or any email app... so I could just click and all the links and hopefully all the names that I have given to those links will then appear in the body of an outgoing email automatically, ready for me to then write what I want, plug in an address, and send.
When I did a search of add-ons on the Firefox and Thunderbird sites, I found something called “Open all links 0.3.1” on the Thunderbird site that I think is for the opposite of my description... I think this add-on is to automatically open all the links in an email that is received... '''which IS NOT what I want to do'''... I want to place all the links that I have in a Firefox bookmarks folder in to an outgoing email... the URL to the “Open all links 0.3.1” add-on is below for you to look at just in case I am reading this wrong...

Otherwise, I could not find any add-on that fits my description.
    Thanks so much,

  • Looking for ringtone that sounds like a landline p...

    Hi,
I'm looking for ringtone that sounds like a landline phone, in other words no music, movie sounds, etc., just a good quality tone that sounds like a conventional (old fashioned even) telephone ring. Any ideas what site I can get one from?
    Many thanks, etc.
PS. Handset is a Nokia 6300.

  • Anyone KNOW of a CRADLE for SIRIUS that works with 3G iPhone? ? ?

Not sure where to begin but apparently, Sirius is planning on a an APP for the iPhone for Sirius that said "NO HACKING REQUIRED" - does that mean that SIRIUS could be hacked into the iPhone?
Anyway, that's not really my question but free Sirius would be nice but will pay for it if it works.
What I am looking for is in my JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I have a SIRIUS set up and wondered if there is some SORT of cradle/adapter that you can purchase to play the iPhone on or thru.
    Thanks.

  • Looking for app that will allow me to control my iphone from my desktop

Looking for app that will allow me to control my iphone from my desktop.  I would like to be able to send text messages, etc from my computer instead of using my iphone.  I don't want to jailbreak my phone.  Does anyone know of app like this?
    Thank you,
    Scott

Windows or Mac?  You can at least send iMessages from a Mac with Mountain Lion installed.
There are apps that let you do the reverse (control the computer from the phone).  I don't know of any that let you go the other way.  It would be kind of cool if we could do this though.  But, I suppose it could open up a Pandora's box of security problems for the phone itself.  Just imagine somebody hacking into your phone remotely and using it without your permission....
