Looking for GTK2/transparent terminal emulator

I've been trying to find a decent terminal emulator that fulfills my requirements, nothing quite hits the mark for me so far!  I need a terminal emulator that has the following:
* GTK2
* tabs
* mouse scroll - for apps such as man, less etc as well as scrollback
* true transparency
* click urls and launch in a browser
* Not too many dependancies, gnome, kde etc
Any suggestions would be appreciated!  I've tried xterm, Sakura, Termit, evilvte, Terminal, lxterminal.  I'm currently using urxvt which is close to what I want.

moljac024 wrote:gnome-terminal then.
Although, might I suggest staying with urxvt and using gnu screen ?
Besides all the other advantages, you won't need no terminal tabs
Although urxvt does support tabs if you still wanted.
For me, I have never had any use for tabs in terminal. all i need to start a terminal is a Mod4+t anyway. easy enough to hit and brings up the terminal instantly and I don't have a panel in any of my WMs, so I don't have to worry about it taking up real estate on the task bar

  • Looking for Users but Terminal says No such file or directory

Hi I'm trying to delete something out of my DVD Studio Pro cache but when I look for the Library it has gone. I've tried calling it up in Terminal with 'chflags nohidden ~/Library' and it comes back with No such file or directory. Has anyone lost their library completely?
    Thanks,
    Des

Are you entering that command with the quotes? If so remove them. Also, use Go to folder (Cmd-shift-g) and enter just ~/Library. I bet everything is still there.

I'm looking for iPhone (or iPad) emulator for Mac. There's some software I need to run for work that only available for them, and I'd like instead to run them on my Mac.
    Anything available?
    Cheers!

A bit of Googling confirms what I thought. You can only runs apps in the simulator that you have the source code to. When the SDK compiles an App, different code is used in the simulator to what is sent to the AppStore.

  • Best Terminal Emulator For Fluxbox?

What is the best terminal emulator for Fluxbox? What do you guys use? What looks the nicest? What has transparency? Right now I'm using gnome-terminal but I don't want gnome installed on my system. I'm also using thunar to manage files.

    Only you can answer that.
I use Terminal when in Fluxbox. pacman -S terminal
Yeah, that would be the xfce4-terminal. I love that one!

I'm using openbox with urxvt because a lot o ppl in here use it and because it have the two must for me unicode and 256 colors. But I'm missing my konsole from kde4 it have a lot of great features (lit can change cursor shape, don't paste extra newlines at the final of output ...).
    I'll check out urxvt.

  • Looking for a replacement for Terminal from XFCE [SOLVED]

I'm looking for a terminal to replace Terminal from XFCE. The requirements are simple. It needs to be GTK2 based for full clipboard functionality and to not be ugly. There needs to be a right click menu to access copy/cut/paste. And I need to be able to toggle the file menu or access all functions from the mouse. LXTerminal comes very close to this except the file menu is just on and the new window launch keyboard shortcut doesn't work. I don't care either way about tabs, but a terminal launcher is necessary.
----> xterm, rxvt, and the derivatives that I've seen are either too ugly or too feature light. It's too bad because xterm is amazingly quick. <----
So why not just use Terminal? There are times when it seems like there are some runaway processes in the background and it starts to lag behind the mouse when moving. I don't know if this in fact Terminal, but I'll find out soon enough. It wouldn't be surprising though; Thunar was a major headache for me.

  • Using SecureCRT or other terminal emulator application for Telnet of LMS

    Hi Everyone,
How to I set SecureCRT/Hyperterm or other terminal emulator as the one that will be use to telnet a device from Device Center or Topology Services?
    Many thanks.

For Device Center, it depends on which browser you use. If it's Mozilla/Firefox, it can be as simple as modifying the Helper application in the Preferences. Or if it's IE 7 or 8, you could modify the registry setting for the telnet:// protocol (see this post https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/670709), or alternatively replace the Windows telnet.exe binary with a shortcut to SecureCRT if you don't mind using the latter all the time.
For Topo Service in Campus Manager, you need to create a campusmgr.properties file as described in http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_campus_manager/5.0/user/guide/cmugfull.pdf, and keep in mind of http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCsa80409 that afflicts CM 4.0 and Windows 2003 and Windows XP clients.

  • Graphical Terminal Emulator for Solaris

    hi all,
can anyone recommend a graphical terminal emulator for solaris? i'd like to see the solaris graphical desktop from a windows PC.
    thanks!

Quite good is commercial XWin by Starnet. Demo version enables 30 minutes of uninterrupted work. I assume that You know all about minor slip in Xsetup file in Solaris distribution.

  • Terminal emulation for OS X Server 10.5.8?

We use Xsan with 2 Xservers and 2 Promise arrays. Promise tells me I need to use a terminal emulator to get information from the arrays over a seril connection. The emulator has to emulate a VT100 or ANSI terminal. Neither Promise nor Apple Support would recommend a terminal emulator.
Does anyone have experience running a terminal emulator on an Xserve running OS X Server 10.5.8? Is there one you would recommed? Not recommend?
    Thanks in advance.
    Chuck

Last time I did this I used a USB to Serial adaptor on a MacBook Pro with ZTerm software.
    See http://www.dalverson.com/zterm/
The XServe in theory has a built-in serial port but at the time I tried it, I could not get ZTerm to successfully communicate via it, the USB serial adaptor (this one - http://www.macwise.com/Keyspan.html ) worked fine.

  • Looking for a way to change GTK2 colors in xfce

I am looking for a way to edit the colors in the GTK theme I am using in xfce, the way you could in gnome2. Lxappearance allows for this but xfce doesn't read the changes from it when I change it though that.
Can anyone suggest something that works? Preferable without having to edit configs by hand.

It is discussed on the xfce forums but unfortunately that solution requires editing by hand. However it does seem relatively easy to automate. Writing a graphical program for those tasks is something you'd only have to do once.

  • Best Transparent Terminal

I want a terminal that will take advantage of real transparency by xcompmgr, other than gnome-terminal.  Xterm doesn't ahve transparency...and I don't know which other terminal emulator is best for transparency.  I don't want the crappy (imo) "transparency," where it just puts the desktop as background in the terminal.
I've tried using gnome-terminal, but I get weird redraw problems.  The shadow seems to leave a trail whenever i move the window.

  • (Layering Issues) Transparent Terminal, Part of desktop.

I'm aware there is a wiki post about this, and I will get to that.
I've been trying to run a terminal as part of my desktop, and I've run into a bit of annoyance. So far I have tried:
Gnome-Terminal + Devilspie (From the wiki, did not work)
This failed to auto start correctly, and failed to strip the window of it's borders.
    Tilda
Has a control fight with the desktop and inactive windows, this is the annoyance. For example, if I have a window placed inactive on the desktop, Tilda's window will override it, and I will not be able to 'grab' the window.
    What I am looking for:
A terminal as part of my desktop running on the same 'layer' as the desktop, and the ability to be able to use the desktop on the terminal's window space. I realize this would negate any right click options the terminal itself may have, but I am fine with this.
The desktop enviornment I am using is cinnamon-git from the AUR. CInnamon is heavily based off of Gnome 3, so any Gnome 3 applicable ideas may work.
If there have been any previous posts about this topic, I apologize and will be happily redirected to said post.
    Thanks,
      Multimoon

It's certainly possible to write a program to do this - but I'm skeptical that it has been done.  If it has it would be implemented in a different desktop manager, not a different terminal, so that's where you should be looking.  I dont know if your DE would play nicely with an alternate desktop manager though.
The desktop manger would have to create a transparent desktop window, manage icons and do everything you want the desktop to do, AND generate XSendEvent events to pass anything else on to the terminal.

  • Terminal Emulation/TN5250 on a Blackberry

    All -
I am looking for some software to do terminal emulation on the Blackberry.  I used to use MobileSSH from Rove, but now that they have incorporated it into Mobile Admin, I can no longer purchase just MobileSSH and the cost has also rised about 3x-4x to $595 and I can't get justification for that amount of money.
I am wanting to connect to an AS/400 through MDS via TN5250 emulation.  I will need function key access, special character input ability, and field exit key capability.  Any suggestions anyone?  Please let me know!!

  • Intall X3270 Terminal emulator on Solaris 10 x86

Hi! I'm trying to install IBM 3270 Terminal Emulator from source code on solaris 10 x86. I had some problems when I run ./configure but was PATH's configuration. Now I'm trying to run make but at certain moment the folowing erro return:
    makeconv -d . -p icudt3l ibm-837_P100-2000.ucm
    sh: makeconv: not found
    *** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `icudt3l_ibm-837_P100-2000.cnv'
I tried to find this 'makeconv' but I haven't found. Does anybody have some esperience with the instalation of X3270? Thank's a lot.

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
    managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
    point.
Problem 2 is that it can't find .tmp_proto, which I
    must
concur with. I can't find that on any of the b72 cd
    images.
So, the setup_install_server fails. This seems to be the problem when you try to setup an install
server on a Solaris SPARC system for Solaris x86 clients, using
the Solaris 9 or Solaris 10/Express CD media.
There's a Solaris x86 UFS filesystem on slice 0 on the CD media,
and it's supposed to be mounted on the "s0" mount point,
    otherwise setup_install_server won't work. On a Solaris x86 box,
vold mounts it automatically for you: /cdrom/cdrom0/s2 is the
mount point for the platform independant ISO9660 part of the CD
media, /cdrom/cdrom0/s0 is the UFS root filesystem.
    Problem is that Solaris SPARC:
    - does not understand Solaris x86 disk labels
    - does not allow mounting x86 UFS filesystems
    (and vice versa).
AFAIK, Solaris 9 DVD media does not have this problem. I
guess the same will be true when Solaris 10 DVD media is
available in a few months. On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
    filesystem.
