Looking for home theater with best bass

I have a smaller Philips home theater system in my living room but the bass is seriously lacking. I'm putting together a game room and I want something with much better bass.  Any suggestions?

Does your phillips receiver have a sub out? If so pick up a Polk Audio psw110 power subwoofer.   If it doesn't have a sub out on the back you would need to buy a receiver with that option to really get the best bass.   Also where is your current subwoofer if you have one.  Try different locations, i.e. behind the tv , behind a couch, in a corner.

  • Looking for home theater

    I'm looking to add surround sound to my home theater setup. I'm not exactly what i need or where to start. I have a 47" lcd tv, a ps3, and my dish reciever that i would like to have all hook up through surround sound.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi nick,
    Welcome to the Community!
    There are many possibilities for the audio portion of your home theater.
    The easiest thing to do is select an All-In-One Home Theater System (sometimes called a Home Theater-In-A-Box).  This will contain the audio receiver, speakers, and wires.
    Whether shopping for each component separately or as a set, here's what you need to consider:
    Make sure you have the inputs and outputs on the receiver you'll need to properly connect your current and planned devices.
    For speakers, consider whether you want 5 or 7 speakers, or a sound bar.  You can demo the differences in the Best Buy store.  Also consider whether you want to run wires for the rear speakers or have a wireless setup.
    Also consider whether you'll be adding things like Blu-ray or internet content into the mix.  This can help you decide whether to get a system with Blu-ray or internet connectivity built-in or a standalone system.

    Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
    So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or  Chrome.
    Be aware, Apple no longer support Snow Leopard v10.6 >  www.ibtimes.com/apple-kills-snow-leopard-os-x-106-no-longer-receives-security-u pdates-1558393
    See if your Mac can run v10.9 Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
    If so, you can download and install Mavericks for free from the App Store.

  • Looking for a pager with advanced functionalities

    Hello everyone,
    I am looking for a pager with which I could put custom icons for the different workspaces.
    I have an HTPC that is mainly used for three things: watching movies, playing music and browsing the internet. Therefore, I would like to have four workspaces, one for each of these and another one for administration. Since this is an HTPC, I'd like it to look good and I think it would be neat to have images instead of numbers/squares for the workspaces: a movie reel for the "movies" workspace, a note for "music", etc... I have been looking at pagers on the wiki, but most of the links are broken. I am currently running XFCE, but would install another WM for this. The idea came to me because I could do this on awesome 3, which is installed on my laptop, but my roommates are firmly opposed to a tiling WM on the HTPC.
    If anybody can provide suggestions, they will be very welcome.
    Cheers,
    François

    Howdy-ha- flamirande.  I don't want to be a total prick, as it's not my place; it's yours.  Xfwm or Awesome will get the job done, won't it?  You might be able to wow them if you get a universal remote and set up a proper lirc connection, letting them sit on the couch and have the power at the press of a finger.  I have some friends with XBMC (the real thing--a dedicated, old-school Xbox hacked with BSD for all their media),  and they're more satisfied with the results it provides than how it looks.  Yeah, their Win and Mac PCs (both my friends' and your roomates') give them Facebook and YouTube, but yours gives them music, movies and tv and internet on demand, at a smaller resource cost and with a more versatile core and interface.  If they're so touchy about polish, let them figure it out.  I'm not just saying this as the sorry excuse for a computer geek that I am, but also as a person who's been dealing with many roommates for roughly a decade. I mean I don't know your situation but what do they think, the setup you give 'em is supposed to get them attention?
    If these folks can't be satisfied by the fact that your system can provide them with a reliable, versatile, centralized, kick-ass setup that theirs can't, well...
    More constructively: If they just won't have it...maybe openbox and tint2?  You've got a low ram and cpu demand there, keeping music from skipping and video from tearing, if you work it out properly.  Openbox has always been my choice for the right balance between polish and minimalism.

  • Samsung Home theater with dvd player want to upgrade to wireless - what's best?

    Hi-
    I have a Samsung home theater system with 5 disc dvd changer and the rear speakers are hard wired.  Should I upgrade to the "bar" system with no rear speakers.  Is that type of system better audio quality.  Any suggestions?

    By eliminating the rears, you will not have the same immersive experience. The sound/tonal qualities of a soundbar can be very good.
    I don't know if a bar is an "upgrade", unless you consider simplifying your setup a step in the right direction. Bars have become popular for their relatively decent sound, while being extremely easy to implement into any situation.

  • Add Wireless Bridge to TC Setup for Home Theater?

    Hi, I'm admittedly green at this topic and not exactly sure how to ask the question. I have a 2nd generation TC in my basement connected to a cable modem for internet access. I have a budding home theater on our first floor and a new A/V receiver with internet capability, but it has to be Ethernet connected. It also seems to me that it would be more reliable and have higher speeds if I used Ethernet for my Apple TV and Oppo Blu ray player. What piece of hardware should I be looking to buy that can wirelessly connect with the TC in the basement and provide Ethernet connections to my home theater? I don't know what to look for and need some direction.
    Thanks in advance for any guidance!

    Performance wise, the best choice by far would be to run an Ethernet cable from the TC location to the home theater location and then connect a 5-port or 8-port Ethernet switch to provide the wired connections that you need.
    Next choice would be to add an AirPort Extreme to connect using wireless back to the TC and configure it to "extend" a wireless network.  You will have up to 4 Ethernet ports to connect wired devices to the AirPort Extreme and you will also have more wireless signal coverage as well in the home theater area.
    Don't be fooled here though....although the A/V receiver, Apple TV and Blu-Ray player will appear to be connected as wired devices.....the connection to all of these devices will be limited by the quality of the wireless signal "hop" between the TC and AirPort Extreme.
    To get an idea of whether this might work satisfactorily, move your MacBook Air to the same location as the home theater components and log on to the Internet. If you can get a good, fast, reliable wireless connection on the Mac, then the AirPort Extreme will likely deliver the performance that you need at that location.
    Best of all worlds would be to run an Ethernet cable from the TC to the AirPort Extreme.  This would provide wired connections for all devices all the way back to the TC and also provide more wireless signal coverage in the home theater area.

  • Recording a surround sound cd/dvd for home theater

    I am trying to burn a 5.1 surround sound cd/dvd with different audio in each channel.  I have created the file without any problems and it will play on my computer in surround sound.  When I burn the cd/dvd (I have tried both) all of the audio plays in all channels. How do I burn the file onto a disc so that it will play correctly as surround sound in my home theater?

    I know this question was asked ages ago, but I'm sure others are probably looking for an answer too (as I was over a year ago, when I started working with Audition 3).
    In my experience, there is no way to directly export a functional 5.1 file from Audition.  You can surround mix a file using the surround panner, but you can't export in the file format used by most home theater systems (.ac3 - Dolby Surround Sound).  My solution was to track down a standalone encoder, although there may be pugins available to allow Audition to do this.  After surround mixing, I export to 5 mono wav files and then drop them into this absolutely ancient program called Soft Encode, which creates a single, interleaved .ac3 file out of my source files.  Then, I take the .ac3 file, create a blank video the same length, and use my video editor to burn them to a DVD.
    From what my research turned up, the reason Audition does not have the capability to export in .ac3 is because of the expense of licensing with Dolby.  I would love to see a more sophisticated surround panner in AA4, as well as the ability to natively export .ac3 files, but by the same token, I don't want to see a skyrocketing price, so I'm waiting to see what happens!

  • I'm looking for a computer with these specifications, can anyone help me?

    I need to know if anyone can give me the names of a few laptops that have these MINIMUM specifications:
    Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 Processor or any better processor
    4 GB of RAM
    Windows 7
    1280 X 800 or more with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16 bit color, and 256MB of dedicated VRAM (not Shared Memory)
    Graphics support for Shader Model 3.0, and OpenGL 2.0, DirectX 9-capable graphics card.
    DVD-drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs, Read/Write drive
    QuickTime 7.6.2 or newer
    I'm going to an art school, and will probably be getting into some Graphic Design stuff, so if you don't know a computer that has a lot of these specific terms, could you give me perhaps a few names of good laptops for art students to buy?

    Hello Balkoth,
    I work for Intel and aside from this being my job, I'm going to tell you to consider investing in a stronger processor. If you are going to be getting into Graphic Design, you will need more processing power. For your needs, I would suggest looking into the new Intel® Core™ i7 processor.
    This is our top-of-the-line processor, ahead of the curve and will continue to perform as technologies continue to emerge. Not only will you have graphics support for Shader Model 3.0, and OpenGL 2.0, DirectX 9-capable graphics cards, but the i7 has Turbo Boost Technology (Speeds up your processor when you computer needs more performance) and  Hyper-Threading Technology (multitasking that allows your computer to work on two tasks at the same time). Even if you don't need all of these features now, you never know what you will need down the line. My general rule of thumb is to never buy something that is already behind the curve.
    I would also recommend you looking into our other smart processors, i3 and i5, but I believe the i7 will be the best for your processing needs. Here is a couple computers I found with i7 processors and Windows 7 that you were looking for. Hope this helps!

  • FPS2000 subwoofer for home theater?

    This question might be kind of out there but oh well... I know these are digital speakers but is there any way to get this subwoofer to output a signal from a home theater receiver with a subwoofer output? I have it just sitting around and would like to use it if possible because it's tiny, amplified, and packs a nice punch for its size. Thanks!

    Options other than what.  We don't know enough about your installation.  Is this the same TV in the same location, or what?  E.G. I use a Harmony remote.  My
    TV in the family room is the "home theater."  I have my remote set up to Watch TV when all I want on is the TV, and Watch TV 2  when I want the amplifier/surround sound/DVD/PS3 on.  So, what is it you are trying to do?
    Your VZ remote comes in a 2-button variety, and a 4-button (you pay for it) variety which might be sufficient for you.  There are lots of alternative remotes.

  • Looking for APEX tutoring (with pay) in NJ - urgent -

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie to APEX, and trying to get the project up and running. I can get a simple form up, but the project I'm doing is more than a simple form. I have not got a chance to get any training yet. Looking for APEX tutoring in NJ with pay.
    Please let me know promptly.
    Appreciated,
    Helen

    Helen,
    First of all, welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of APEX development.
    Before recommending anything, it would be really good to know a little bit about your background and how comfortable you are with Oracle, SQL, and PL/SQL. If you're completely new to Oracle (i.e. you've been working with EXCEL and ACCESS), I would recommend a completely different path than someone who is coming at this from a long history of Oracle Forms development, and different again form someone that has Java or other Web development experiene.
    Can you help us out with some information about your programming background?
    In general, I agree with Don. The 2 Day developer and Advanced Tutorial white papers will give you a good start, by letting you peek under the covers of what is possible with Application Express. There are also a couple good books that might help depending on where you're coming from and what your skill level is.
    However, there is nothing like getting yourself into a learning environment that allows you to ask questions specific to what you're trying to achieve in the real world.
    The company I work for ( [Sumner Technologies|www.sumnertech.com] ) also provides APEX training at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. We can provide these classes in a public forum, as private on-site classes, or we also provide instructor lead online training classes as well. We have several classes scheduled through the end of the year so check [http://www.sumnertech.com/training|http://www.sumnertech.com/training] for a list of available courses and our public/Online schedule).
    What course best suits you will obviously depend on where you're starting from, but we can definitely help there.
    Feel free to give us a call at (703) 879-4615. We'll be happy to help.

  • Home Theater with Mac Mini and Mac book Air

    We are currently using our Mac Mini 2GHz Intel with our Sylvania HMDI TV connected with HDMI cable. The only downfall is that our desktop has to be close to our tv. I would like to put the desktop in our bedroom and use the new macbook air for tv watching downstairs. The questions is, how would I get all of my content from the desktop down to the laptop to view on tv.
    We will also be using Plex 9 when we get a bigger harddrive. Will we be able to run that on the laptop if it is located on the desktop upstairs?
    A run down of how someone else has thier home theater set up using something similar would be great!
    Thanks in advance!

    The Plex software bundle you download and install includes two components, Plex Media Server and Plex Media Manager. The former (PMS) needs to be running on your desktop all the time, the latter (PMM) is the client that can find the content on your network. When you run PMM on your laptop, it can see the content on any system running PMS on your network, and stream the content from there. The PMM is the 'Plex' you see in your Applications folder.
    For more in depth help with setting up Plex, you should consult the Plex Forums.

  • Looking for a name with special character

    Hi Gurus,
    In our HR system we use multiple language (eg: polish, french, german, english, finns, ...).  All those languages have some specific characters, like german with ß.
    When we use the search help to looking for someone, it seems that only people who have the special character on their keyboard can find directly the correct name.
    For example :
    If I use a german keyboard I can found an employe by completed the correct last name wich contain eg ß .
    if I don t use a german keyboard I have to put a * where the specific characters is.
    I would like to know if somehow it were possible to customize the system in order to do not need to enter a * but the correspondant singular letter.  Is there any function for converting a special character to a singular one to activated ?
    Thank you for all your help
    Best regards
    Hadrien

    indexOf() is used to find where a character or substring appears in a
    given string. What you probably need is charAt() which finds out which
    character is at a given position. Like this:private JTextField reportNameText;
    // something needs to be put in the text field here
    String reportName = reportNameText.getText();
    if(reportName.charAt(0) == ' ') {
            // printing a space isn't a lot of good...
        //System.out.println("first character is"+reportName.indexOf(0));
        System.out.println("first character is a space");
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"Report Name should not start with Space", "", JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE);
    }An even better condition might beif(Character.isWhitespace(reportName.charAt(0))) {This checks for other sorts of space.
    The String methods are described here:

    I'm looking for an app which will track my workouts and give me monthly totals on calories lost. Is there such thing? If not then I just need the best calorie tracker on the iPhone. I had this neat app on the Droid called cardiotrainer it did the trick but the iPhone doesn't have it.
    Thank you

    Going to the third party re-seller could be part of the issue, but also VZW now has a rule that if you go to a feature phone from a Smartphone, you have x amount of days to get back on a smartphone and keep unlimited data.Not much you can do to get around that.
    Going back to the Reseller. Even if VZW was able to get you back on the plan, you most likely would be hit with a $300+ETF from the reseller for changing something on your plan within 181 of sgning the contract with them.
    Either way, you would be paying more.
