  • Hiring Mangers - Where do you look for candidates?

I inherited an open Programmer/Analyst position and am looking to fill it.  Besides Spiceworks ($100/60 days is cheap) where have Hiring Managers had good luck filling entry to mid-level programmer/analyst positions?
I know I'll end up posting in multiple locations but we are giving this one last shot before hiring a head hunter to assist us.
    Thanks in Advance.

It is 20ms for Time to First Byte. 1ms applies to a stretched farm. You could look at your storage latency, although how you would do this would vary from NAS manufacture. You may want to look at your product documentation.

  • Looking for real screen magnification

I have a friend who just bought a 27" iMac. Part of his reason to choose the large screen was to allow him to magnify windows on the screen. The problem is that he wants to magnify the complete window, not just the contents. For instance, he wants to magnify the commands at the top of a browser window so he can see them better and navigate more easily, not just expand the contents.
Is there a way to magnify EVERYTHING on the screen, even at the cost of decreasing the effective real estate to make EVERYTHING more readable?

He/she could set the display to a lower resolution in +System Preferences > Displays.+ This will have the effect of 'magnifying' the entire screen.
He/she could instead use the Zoom feature. Turn this on in +System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing.+ Then you can zoom in or out anytime by using these key combinations:
    Zoom in: Option Command =
    Zoom out: Option Command -

I'm helping re-do part of our campus website and I'd like to do some tutorials that involve screen captures and videos much like the Apple "How To" videos for the iPods and Mac OSX.
Do any of you have any recommendations? I've seen a program called MacCapture for $29 but wanted to see if anyone has either used it, or has a better recommendation.
    Thanks!

  • Dead screen, looking for screen sh

I have a Zen Xtra with a dead screen. The backlighting works, but I do not get any text on the screen. Everything else works. What I am looking for is screen shots that will take me step by step throuh the different screens, ie, to pick an artist I press menu (pick of what screen looks like), press select button once, get this screen (pic of screen), press select button down twice to get to artist (screen shot) etc. I have an idea, through trial and error how to play some music, but need to know how to get to albums, artists, play all, and play mode. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Since many have viewed this (But no one has replied), I will reply to myself. I took the MacBook Pro to the apple store.  They took out the battery, which was working fine by the diagnostic, and found that somehow, the traChpad had tightened itself in terms of sensitivity.  They adjusted the trackpad sensitivity, buttoned it back up, worked like new, no charge!!!  If you experience this problem, take it to the apple store, let them adjust the track bar, you'll be off and running in 15 minutes...

  • I am looking for a Meeting/ Screen Sharing Application on iPad2 using which I can provide presentation/ screen sharing to other iPad or Windows PC.

I am looking for presentation/ screen sharing application for iPad 2. Similar to WEBEX or GoToMeeting using which I can give presentation using an iPad.

For sharing between iPads, this might be worth a look:
    http://www.ideaflight.com/
Cisco has a WebX application for the iPad that says it allows scheduling, hosting, and attending meetings. There is a client for GoToMeeting for iPad, but I believe that you can only attend, not host.

  • Looking for a second display

Hi again. I'm looking for a screen to go with my 21.5 Inch iMac. This would be mainly used for gaming with my Xbox 360 however I would use it with my Mac as well. It also needs to be height adjustable so that I can align it perfectly with my Mac.
So I'm looking for a 21.5 inch height adjustable gaming monitor, that's under £200. It needs to have a 1ms response time and generally have good specs for gaming.
Help would be greatly appreciated! :)

check out dell, asus and acer they all got various models that will work

  • HT4889 Source computer getting stuck on "looking for other computers", but target computer finds source computer.

I'm hoping someone can help me get my source computer to find my target computer when running Migration Assistant.  The source computer (late '08 macbook pro running OS X 10.7.5) gets stuck on "looking for other computers".  But target computer (late '09 imac running OS X 10.7.5) finds source computer.  Both show they are connected to same wifi network in System Preferences-network.  Note:  I have tried with both internet sharing on and off.  Note:  Source computer also can't find its external hard drive when plugged in.  Related? Any ideas for either issue?

    Ok, more updates.
In my old Mac (Pro) I have several hard drives installed. I was able to create a Time Machine back-up to a non-system HD. I plan on removing this volume and putting it in an external enclosure as soon as I can find the right cables for that enclosure. Meanwhile....
I saw on one support doc an instruction to open Sharing on the source Mac (my old one, in this case) and make sure the machine had a name specified. I already had done that, but noticed that a specific name based on that was mentioned for other computers to contact it. For example, if my source machine is named "myOldMac", other computers could address is at "myOldMac.local".
I connected the two computers directly via an Ethernet cable and I ran Migration Assistant again. When I got to the "Looking for source" screen, I clicked the button for "Other Server" and entered "afp://myOldMac.local". This actually found my old Mac. I was prompted to enter the password for the account "root". I changed the name to my account's short name -- "raboyle" not "Robert Boyle" -- and entered the correct password and I actually got a list of volumes to access. In the list were: the hard drives (by volume name), the home folders of the user accounts, and the Public Folders for each user account.
I tried accessing both my boot volume and the home folder for my primary account, and proceeded to a screen with the following text: "Choose which backup to transfer information from:". The list provided, however, was empty. On the chance that it was looking specifically for a Time Machine backup, I then specifically chose the HD volume with the backup I had just created. Again, the list to choose where to grab my data from was empty.
So, at least I'm advancing a little bit beyond the "Looking for source" screen ... but then again, since I hit yet another roadblock I can't say whether I've taken one step forward or two steps back.

  • Migration Assistant stuck on "Looking for source..."

I just bought a new iMac today and I am trying to use Migration Assistant to move all my info on my Mac Pro to my new machine. The problem is that the Migration Assistant is getting stuck at the "Looking for source" step, trying to find my old Mac with no success.
Yes, I've searched for other posts about this issue and I've looked at a number of support.apple.com articles about this. The discussions closest to my problem all have some issue that isn't present for me. Here's a bit of information that may or may not be pertinent to what's going on:
One support article said that the source Mac had to be running at least OS X 10.6.8. My old mac is running 10.7.5.
Neither Mac is running with the firewall turned on.
I did not use Time Machine with my old Mac, and it is turned off on both Macs.
I have run Software Update on both Macs and everything is up-to-date.
I also tried setting up a wireless computer-to-computer connection. I created the network on my old Mac, and was able to connect just fine through Finder on my new iMac. Running Migration Assistant, however, I could not see my old Mac's network and, as for clicking on "Other Server" button in the Assistant, I can say I would know how to specify that network's address given the format afp://Server/ShareName/. For the sake of argument, let's say the network's name was "oldMac". I did try entering "oldMac" for "Other Server" and then "afp://oldMac" and neither of those worked.
One other thing. I do have an Apple TV. I don't see why this should interfere, but I am able to view and play my music and movies on my TV, so apparently the Apple TV can see the old Mac fine as well. And no, the Apple TV was not on while trying to migrate my data.
    TIA,
    bob

  • I'm looking for a consultant/expert....

I'm looking for a consultant to help me through the rough spots in HTML/CSS, Javascript, jQuery, php, and also with the Adobe suite of products. I'm visualizing just doing occasional phone consultation with a screen share by Adobe Connect or Joinme.com. Let ke know if you are this person, or know somebody like this. Hi McFrisco,
You'll get quite a bit of free expert help in this forum if you post specific questions and show us your code.
HTML, CSS & JavaScript are not hard concepts to learn on your own.  PHP/MySql is more advanced and should be undertaken only after you have a working knowledge of the other three.
It would help us help you if you tell us something about yourself.
         a) How much coding experience do you have?
         b) What do you feel most & least comfortable with?
         c) A brief description of your project goals.
         d) A link to your site (if you have one).
I can only speak for myself but like most people here, I regularly donate time to this and other forums while simultaneously working on client projects. If you need a bit of hand holding while you work through tutorials, Adobe forums contain a pool of worldwide product users who are available 24/7.  Owing to differences in time zones and other commitments, a private consultant might not be as convenient to reach when you have burning questions.

  • Looking for Toronto (GTS) based MAC expert... suggestions?

Looking for a MAC expert that can come into by business and assist with all our computers.
We have the need to configure all our computers, place a backup system in place. etc.

These forums are mainly for asking technical questions; Apple does not participate except to occasionally make sure that the ToU are being followed. I believe there is a business section if I'm not mistaken? Ahh, here is a link to the Apple Business Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313
You might want to start there; I am sure there'd be resources, but since I've never had the need, I don't know where to find them.

  • When my husband and I try to share our libraries and import from each others libraries, we get as far as seeing the library on the screen. The next step is to look for the 'Show' menu at the bottom of the screen, but neither of us has any such thing. ?

When my husband and I try to import from each other's libraries, using Home Sharing, we are intructed to look for the "Show" menu at the bottom of the screen. Neither of us has anything like this on our screens. How and where do we locate it? We both have the latest itunes running.

    Hey fantail163,
If you are not seeing the button to show menu, try out the troubleshooting steps for Home Sharing.
