Looking for LabView driver for Watlow 96 Series Temp. Controller.

In need of LabView driver to control a Watlow 96 Series Temperature Controller. The controller has a RS232 output, so I'm preferably looking for a serial port driver. Thanks in advance.

The first place to look for stuff like this is the vendor's web page--in this case www.watlow.com. How did I know this? I guessed. You can typically guess 90% of company websites...
In a couple minutes I was able to find your controller and a document on how to communicate with it. If you email me I can send it to you (it's too big to post...).
Next, reading the document (which by the way contains a good basic primer on serial communications)I saw that one of the protocols you can use for communicating with the 942 is Modbus RTU. I can also send you a set of modbus drivers.
Hope this helps in thermal testing your chips...

[BUG] Agilent ESA PSA Series LabVIEW driver for Models E4401B and E4402B

Agilent ESA PSA Series LabVIEW driver are not working with Models E4401B and E4402B.

Problem: ID Query in "Agilent ESA PSA Series.lvlib:Initialize.vi". ID Answer from Instrument is not match with strings in Match Array. Somebody left whitespace at the strings end. ("Hewlett-Packard,\sE4401B\s" and "Hewlett-Packard,\sE4402B\s").
Everything else is working well.

If anyone can spare their 4294A for the duration of driver development or can influence Agilent to loan a 4294A, NI will write certified CVI and LabVIEW drivers for it.

There is a driver for this device available for downloading from the National Instruments Instrument Driver Network. Here is a link to the download page:

Unfortunately, however, this driver is only available for 7.0 and 7.1. Unless someone else on this message board has created one for 6i, you will need to create your own.
The other option is to upgrade to LabVIEW 7.1, which I highly recommend. There are many improvements over LabVIEW 6, including Express VIs, Event Structures, and many others. You can see the new funtionality of LabVIEW 7.1 with a free online demo version at this link

An instrument driver is a collection of functions that implement the commands necessary to perform the instrument�s operations. In short, someone read the instrument user manual and implemented some of the functionality in a program for the end user. Instrument drivers are not necessary to use your instrument. They are merely time savers to help you develop your project so you do not need to study the manual before writing a program.
There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.

I did some looking around on the Tektronix web site.
Tek does not seem all that interested in supporting the
TLA704 in particular, or LabView(tm) for logic analyzers
at all. IMHO the Tek site sucks when you need to find
information in depth.
I looked through National Instruments site too. Now on this
site it was easy to find what I was looking for. Good job.
Developing a LabVIEW instrument driver for a logic analyzer
looks to be a non-trivial task for anything more involved than
starting a capture and waiting for the data to log. Depending
on the driver it could be real slow getting a load of data from
the logic analyzer.
It might be better to use the TLA programmatic interface
(TPI) to run the TLA704 by remote control over the Ethernet.
All the support for this comes with the analyzer software.
Though it's really painful to get it setup in Windows 98.
This way you could create a Windows program that runs
on your workstation to connect to the TLA704, set it up,
start a run, and download the data. Once the data is in
your workstation you can reformat for use by LabView.
I don't know that this would be easier than making a
LabVIEW instrument driver for a logic analyzer, but
at least all the software exists right now to control
the TLA704 remotely.

I am looking for MEN module M56 & M24 driver on a Men Carrier D201 for Labview on CPci plateform

I try to command MEn Card trough Labview.
Men M56 is plug on carrier Men D201 in a Compact PCI rack.

I'm not sure exactly what the MEN M56 or M24 are, but the best resource for a device driver is your device manufacturer. If they do not have a LabVIEW driver, but they do have a C based driver, it is possible to call functions from a dll using the Call Library Function Node from the Advanced palette in LabVIEW.
If your device manufacturer does not provide you with a driver, it is also possible to write a driver for your device. This is an option, but I do not recommend it because it involves register level programming. Your device manufacturer would have to provide you with details on how to program this device. For testing power supplies we use the MAVOLOG 10 Power Quality Monitor for 3 phase Systems. So we use LabVIEW as test enviroment we need information where to find a driver.

I think just about the only place you might be able to find a LabVIEW driver for this device would be from the manufacturer. Hopefully they can help you out. Looking for instrument driver for LV developed for the Keyence LS-7500 series micrometer. Has anything seen any or done this already? Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I have already checked NI's listing of instrument drivers to no success.

There are no drivers listed for this instrument at http://ni.com/idnet. You may want to contact Programmed Test Sources to see if they have a LabVIEW driver for their instrument. If they don't, you can easily create a low-level driver by configuring an I/O assistant VI for each function in the manual. Once you have this low level driver you can just combine functions to make higher level VIs. Alternatively, you can hire an Alliance Member to write an driver for you.

Labview driver for Sony EX frontend (also known as 01dB-Metravib Orchestra)

I am looking for information on a third party driver for the Sony EX-IF10 data acquisition frontend. I know sony made a driver as it was advertised in promotional materials. Unfortunately the division of Sony seems to have been sold.
Very similar hardware (identical) has also been sold under the name 01dB-Metravib Orchestra.
Any help is appreciated.

I’ve been working with Sony EX series professionally for many years. Sony Manufacturing Systems Corporation manufactured and promoted this system and later also discontinued it, officially because of environmental reasons in the production line. They later also went away from the data acquisition market were they had been successful earlier on with tape recorders.
So what is your current Sony EX Series system configuration, do you only have hardware or do you also have Sony PCscanIV software?
The Sony EX series driver is only for 32bit OS and EX-UT10 interface doesn’t support multiprocessor operation or hyper threading technology. I only use computers were I have disabled multicore and run on one single core. Can be run on multicore but not stable in my experience.
Regarding third-party software I had a contact with Sony Manufacturing Systems in Japan and the MATLAB mexEX subroutine were never sold or even finalized. Sony Manufacturing Systems didn’t want me to use or try it. As for LabVIEW Sony Manufacturing Systems are the supplier so only if someone else has a driver.
With the other software suppliers you only need the Sony EX driver and maybe a dongle. I use Head Acoustics Head Recorder software witch support all Sony EX modules and several other DAQ units, works with a licensed dongle.
Sony EX series was delivered with Sony PCscanIV software for acquisition and post processing. You had the option of STD / ADV / PRO / RTA on a license dongle.
The system was hardware supported up until 2015 some spare part may still be available.

MacBook Early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn Series - Unable to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion ( Looking For A Fix )

I own a MacBook "Early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn" Series has Intel Processor (T8100 (2.1 GHz ) / T8300 (2.4 GHz)) 45 nm "Penryn" processors, 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) installed in pairs (two 02 GB modules), a 160.0 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology, an 8X dual-layer write DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive, an Intel GMA X3100 integrated "graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory", and a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution). It also includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and video out capabilities (mini-DVI) that supports an external display. Interesting part to all this technological babble is how APPLE INC forces you buy their product both hardware and software. Now, I have this old MacBook Early 2008 Model PC and I took it to the shop and I thought I would upgrade the software (OS and APPS) so I take it to the iStore ‘Rescue Centre’, as APPLE INC calls it world over, they say you will have to upgrade it version by version and each version would cost you a licence fee! SO the cost break up would be, I’m currently on MAC OS X Leopard to be updated by MAC OS X Snow Leopard ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which again to be upgraded MAC OS X Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) and then to latest one is MAC OS X Mountain Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which means I have to pay INR 3210.00 to upgrade the machine and I agree to pay for that and after two upgrades the third one(that is the latest version) was not compatible with my machine because of inferior/outdated hardware e unit and If I want the new operating system then I told to buy the new machine which costs between INR 90,000 to INR 1,40,000!!

Your early 2008 MacBook cannot be upgraded to Mountain Lion. The reason is that Mountain Lion is entirely a 64 bit operating system, and cannot use any 32 bit components. Lion, while also 64 bit-based, can use some 32 bit components, and thus would work on all Core 2 Duo machines. This article has more details.
The center you went to was incorrect when they said you have to upgrade to each operating system. You need to be at Snow Leopard in order to access the App store to download Mountain Lion. You don't have to install Lion to get to Mountain Lion. See this Apple page on this.

Looking for a labview virtual instrument program we can modify

Hi, I’m looking for a canned labview virtual instrument program we can modify for the OMB DAQ 55 from Omega to measure three temps and control three DO. I have the driver at:ftp://ftp.omega.com/public/DASGroup/products/OMB-DAQ5455&56/ The driver is labviewpdaq5xsetup.exe. I have the OMB DAQ 55 from http://www.omega.com/pptst/OMB-Daq55.html with a USB interface. I am trying to set it up to control a 24V electric valve. I’d like it to measure temperatures (5 separate temps), allow a set point to be programmed for three of them and turn on and off a DO based on the temperature. PID is not required yet. Maybe in the future… We have labview 7.1 and 8.0 but my colleague prefers 7.1 Do you have an labview VI programs that you can share that will do this with the DAQ 55? If you have something that will be close, we can modify it. But starting from scratch will likely mean we can not get this done in time for a project test. Simple set point and control is all I’m looking for… I’m new (my colleague knows it better than me, but has less time) to labview and do not have the resources to learn it from scratch to figure this out. Is there something you have I could modify? Can you help. Or are there canned programs you have that will do this? Labview is the preferred language. Thanks. Attached is what Omega shared with us, it might help…it’s a screen capture from a similar program, but far from the mark.

These discussion forums are more geared for questions - not necessarily having everyone else code for you.
You have a few options if you want code.
1) Look at the shipping examples that come with LabVIEW. This will give you a starting point from which to ask questions.
2) Look at the Instrument Driver Network that exits on National Instrument's Web site. Here are all the Omega instrument drivers listed.
3) Look at the list of Alliance members who you can pay to develop your code for you. Look here.
