Looking for Optical Drive compatability by part number

I have located a replacement 20X CD-ROM Module for my Pismo PowerBook. I want to be sure it is compatible. The model number of the drive is M2451. The person selling the drive has no clue if it is compatible. If anyone has any information about this dilema, it would be greatly appreciated.

twillaustin, welcome to Apple Discussions from a fellow Texan.
The M2451 CD-ROM (661-1516) is for a Wallstreet model G3. Don't know if it would work in a G3 Pismo.
The Pismo originally came with a DVD-ROM M7931 (P/N 661-2244). I have one of these with my Pismo. I also have a 24X CD-ROM M7388 to use with my Pismo.
If you want to be safe, get the M7388. It should be about the same $ as the M2451.

  • Looking for Seagate drive compatibility

    Good afternoon,
I need to replace a drive in a 4500 Series device. We're currently using:
    Segate 36G
    Model Number: ST136403FC
    Firmware: 144A
    Part Number: 9L7004-024
    Serial Number: LT474215
Under the second UPC on the drive's label, the numbers 3900012-04 appear. So here are my questions:
Can anyone tell me what the 3900012-04 means?
Can this drive be replaced with a bigger drive?
If other drives in the 4500 have 3900012-04, do any replacements need to be the same in order to be compatible?
Thanks for any information, and I'd be glad to add any more info to help clarify if necessary.

    Hello Dave,
Under the second UPC on the drive's label, the numbers 3900012-04 appear. So here are my questions:
Can anyone tell me what the 3900012-04 means?
390-0012 is the Sun Part #/Manufacturing Part # of the drive (w/o SPUD bracket and plate). -04 is a revision #.
X6722A is the option # (drive, SPUD bracket and plate) and 540-4192 the Manufacturing Part # (of the above 3 components) on the label on the front of the SPUD bracket.

It's unlikely that you can still obtain one of these 1.6" height drives. I don't know if you can mix these drives with low profile (1 " height) drives.
Depending on the number and age/condition of the drives, replacing all of them with more recent and higher capacity ones might be an option.

    Hi dad,
Drivers for Windows 7 are not available for this model. While considering the desire to provide the best possible support for Canon's current products, Canon must make decisions on which products to support when new operating systems are introduced. These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and the number of product estimated to be still in use.
Since your device is not supported under the current operating system, you are eligible for Canon's Loyalty Program. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a new or refurbished product that uses Canon’s next generation technology and carries a limited manufacturer’s warranty. To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free ground shipping (if the order is completed by 4:00 PM EST). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800)OK-CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.

  • Mega PC Optical Drive Compatibility List

So you've just parted with the cash for your shiny new Mega PC barebones, now you have to choose which optical drive (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW) you want to go inside. Of course MSI recommend you use one of their optical drives, but they would say that!  You might prefer other manufacturer's units (myself am very happy with NEC drives) so the aim of this thread is to provide as comprehensive as possible a list of drives **known** to work correctly with the Mega series, as well as pointing out drives to avoid.
If you have a drive that is not listed here, but works correctly in hifi and PC mode, or works fine with a couple of quirks, then please post below, and i'll add them into this post at a later date. Please state the manufacturer (eg NEC), model code (eg ND2510A) and drive type (CD-ROM, DVD-RW etc), and i'll make sure you get credited with the comment.
Unfortunately, I have not added some drives listed in the old thread due to not enough information being given (eg Toshiba DVD-ROM doesn't really narrow a particular model down). Comments from users are credited to them.

Important Bios changes when changing from Windows 8 to Windows 7:
Completely shut down laptop (Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.) then restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.
Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot mode
UEFI and CSM or legacy  (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM or legacy for windows 7)
For windows 7 change to CSM or Legacy mode.
Third - Also in bios setup utility select - Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to disable secure boot for windows 7.
You will need to delete all partitions before installing windows 7 this is done forth step.
Forth - Insert your windows 7 disc and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system.

Apple seems to be naming their operating sytems usability based on the respective turd size of the feline in question. Lions are big, very, very, very big.
I had a system that served me well for 2 years until I mistaking bought a new machine which runs mega-turd (Lion). Foolish me, now nothing works properly, its a daily struggle to get anything working smoothly using my NEW mac mini. All my other machines work fine, even the windows machines and my Android tablet see all the network components and can talk to each other.
My Internet service is over 3g which I share to the house using internet sharing via my brand new €800 mac mini running POS Lion, everytime the service is interrupted, Kaboom, the mini resets the DHCP server, but doesn't seem to refresh any of the components so connections drop everywhere.
Its amateur hour at Apple folks.
There are several posts alone relating to internet sharing, I have submitted a bug report relating to the non user controllable DHCP server (which may be at fault), but the response / solution from Apple was lacklustre and ultimately didn't work.
    See this, there are some work around's in there;

  • Looking for Mouse Driver

I have a HP Pavilion p6331p Desktop PC, and I'm looking for a driver for the mouse that came with the PC.
Here are the details on the bottom side of the mouse:
    M/N: N910U
    RATING: 5V ...100mA
    Class-1LED Product
    HP P/N: 505062-001 Rev.A
    HP S/N: {Removed for privacy}
    KYE P/N: 31010563201
    I have Win7 (64-bit)
The reason I'm requesting drivers for the mouse is: After a few months using the PC, one day I decided to install Ubuntu, so that I could dual-boot between Win7 and Ubuntu. I created a blank partition, and when I installed Ubuntu, I used Ubuntu to format the blank area, and instead it formated the entire drive, wiping off setup files that HP installed on the secondary partion.
Therefore, I had to buy Win7 and re-install the OS to the computer. Ever since, the wheel on the mouse has been irratic. This is why I am looking for the driver for the HP mouse. I have looked in the file section on HP's website, and cannot locate a driver. I have downloaded the other software that came with the computer.
Can someone please direct me to the driver software?

you probably didnt make a partition ubuntu could recognize
windows makes a dynamic partition which only windows can recognize,so if you were going to install sometihng else,it wouldnt recognize the partition
use gparted to make basic partitions,
    your question,
is your mouse the touchpad or a usb mouse ?

    Hi,
Unfortunately, I was unable to locate a driver for your instrument. I would like you to submit a request for this driver at: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/instrumentdriverrequest/ and with the instrument manufacturer. We develop drivers based on demand and popularity so the more requests we have for it, the greater the possibility that we will develop one.
If you would like to try developing your own instrument driver (or modify the existing one), we have documentation, model instrument drivers, and driver templates to help at :
    http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/development.htm
We also have a syndicate of third party vendors that specialize in National Instruments' products and services. Some of the vendors specialize in driver development. I would s

    http://www.ni.com/alliance
An instrument driver is a collection of functions that implement the commands necessary to perform the instruments operations. In short, someone read the instrument user manual and implemented some of the functionality in a program for the end user. Instrument drivers are not necessary to use your instrument. They are merely time savers to help you develop your project so you do not need to study the manual before writing a program.
There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.

The first place to look for stuff like this is the vendor's web page--in this case www.watlow.com. How did I know this? I guessed. You can typically guess 90% of company websites...
In a couple minutes I was able to find your controller and a document on how to communicate with it. If you email me I can send it to you (it's too big to post...).
Next, reading the document (which by the way contains a good basic primer on serial communications)I saw that one of the protocols you can use for communicating with the 942 is Modbus RTU. I can also send you a set of modbus drivers.
Hope this helps in thermal testing your chips...

The problem arose from my installing a 256 color fix for a Nvidia Card. Trying to run Fallout 1. Noticed that if you run the fix again you have an uninstall option. I am able to run the option but get a failure message in the end.
    I got "fix" from:

  • Very simple step-by-step guide for Optical Drive to SSD swap?

When my MacBook Pro comes out of warranty I'd like to remove the optical drive and put in an SSD, to hold my apps and OS.  I have a 13" MBP, early 2011, with a 500GB SATA HDD (5400 RPM).
I'm generally handy with tech stuff, but having looked into this, am a bit uncertain on the best way forward, so am hoping to get advice from more experienced types on this forum.  Issues and questions so far are...
    1) Stage 1 - determining specs and approach
The first issue for me is to determine...
    - Whether it's better to house the SSD in the HDD bay and move the latter into the optical drive bay, or whether I should leave the HDD where it is and put the SSD in the optical bay.  Given my MBP model, which is best?
    - What SSD is best?  I’m currently looking at this, which includes a data transfer kit.  Crucial's M4s seem to be pretty good for this sort of thing:
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B9BCBF75A5CA7304
    - What cables, adapters, bays, software etc are appropriate for my model?  I’m based in Australia and will likely order much of the kit from abroad, so if I miss anything, it’s likely to be a (frustrating!) wait.
    - I’m also keen to put a case around the formerly-internal optical drive so need to figure out cables and cases for that.
    2) Stage 2 - Doing the swap
Seems that the best thing is to find a super-simple how-to video.
As there are quite a few out there, any opinions on ones that are great (and ones that are to be avoided!) would be welcome.
    3) Advice for use once installed.
Assuming I’ve gone through the process correctly, I'll put my OS and apps on the SSD.  Then...
    - Can I simply delete the OS residing on the HDD?  Understandably I want to avoid any bad-or-irreversible-without-great-pain mojo.
    - Ditto for apps.  Is there anything required to ensure any settings and preferences don’t get lost?

Okay - I'm getting closer to doing this.
I'm leaning toward getting this bay for the HDD and this enclosure for the optical drive, to make it an external.  Fortunately it's available from an Aussie retailer. For me it's a little hard to figure out from the description whether this only works to shift the HDD to the optical drive bay and whether that means I'd need a separate bay/adapter to mount the SSD in the boot drive location, so any advice would be wonderful.
This is the SSD I'm looking to get: 256GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD with Data Transfer Kit.
And I'd get CCC.  Is there anything else I'd need (cables, bays)?
And a last question: I have a number of apps that are registered/authorised to my current machine - Kindle, iTunes and Final Draft.  Do I need to de-authorise them, before loading them on my SSD, or will the applications see them as still being part of the current machine?
    Thanks again for any help!

  • Third party IDE optical drive compatibility....

    Hi guys,
The original optical drive in my Mac Pro (2006, MacPro 1,1) has failed and I need to replace it. My questions is does the replacement explicitly have to state OS X/Mac compatibility? PATA drives are getting harder to come by, let alone Apple compatible drives, but for all I know OS X will pick up any IDE drive just fine. Anyone know for sure?

well, not 100%, but I can tell you my experience, fwiw. My mom's husband's PC was dying and I was working on getting the old hard drive out and the photos off of it, which I managed to do (with some help).  He said I could take whatever was left, so for a laugh, I grabbed the LiteOn dvd burner that was in there and put it in my Mac Pro (3.1, I think). Surprisingly enought it worked just fine, didn't need anything else. I put it in bay 2, plugged in the power and data cable, set it to cable select, and was good to go. It lasted a few years, but these things do wear out eventually, and no, it didn't say anything about OS X/Mac compatibility.  so, my opinion is as follows: Go for it. It ought to work. Of course, I'm no expert
