Looking for option to view modified photos

After years of owning a Mac and organizing all of my photos manually, I decided to break away from using Adobe Bridge and import everything into iPhoto. I think iPhoto is easy to use and doesn't get in my way except for two things:
1. I'd like to be able to view all of the photos I've edited using iPhoto (i.e., I'd like to be able to have something like a View option that allows me to display Modified only). This would help me post photos to Flickr much easier so I know which ones I've edited (I edit all of the pictures I choose to upload in some way before uploading to Flickr).
2. I'd like to be able to make multiple versions from an original and then have iPhoto index them.

Are you wanting to see the current version of all photos or seeing only the photo that have been modified - in iPhoto you will alway see the current version of each photo and if you export it you will get the current version
You can go to the pictures folder and right click (control click) on the iPhoto library and select the show package contacts option and look - do not move or change anything - in the modified folder to see which photos have been modified
2. I'd like to be able to make multiple versions from an original and then have iPhoto index them.
you can duplicate any photo as many times as you want and edit each one giving you different versions - what exactly do you want iPhoto to with these
If you have suggestions for Apple these user boards are not the place to make them - use the provide iPhoto feedback command under the iPhoto menu

I was able to view gallery before the move.  What am I looking for now to post and view photos?

iCloud provides a very basic photo gallery in Photo Journal, though it is populated only from iPhoto for iOS, not from a Mac. Otherwise you will need to find a third-party solution - this page examines some options:

  • Looking for Good swf viewer/browser

I'm looking for a swf viewer/browser similar to Windows standard browser.
I need to basically show someone a bunch of swfs in a slideshow format.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for responding kglad.
The swfs aren't being displayed in a web browser.
I don't see an option for showing the swfs in slideshow format/view in the flash player. It will only display one, then I need to open the next one individually.
Creating a swf slideshow seems like far much more work than what is needed in this case. I just need to be able to browse through a bunch of swfs quickly.

I have deleted my photos but have icloud. when i log into icloud it doesnt give me an option to view these photos at all. my photo stream is only showing photos from another iphone in the house. i am unsure if i do a restore from back up if this will work. i really dont want to lose these photos but i am very unsure of what to do to resolve. can anyone please help?
    thank you

If you had Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone, photos in the Camera Roll should have been transferred to your photo steam automatically when the iPhone was connected to an available wi-fi network.
Your photo stream is not available when logging in with your iCloud account with a browser on a computer.
Why were the photos in the Camera Roll deleted?
Photos/videos in the camera roll are included with your iPhones backup. If your iPhone's backup has not been updated since the photos were deleted from the camera roll, you can try restoring your iPhone from the backup.

The only similarity between a MacBook Air and an iBook is that both are notebooks.    MacBook Airs though have a totally different range of operating systems than the iBook.  We have to know what operating system you are running to give a concise answer, and request a moderator move this topic to the correct forum.  No action is needed on your part except to respond to this question, what Mac OS X version is in Apple menu -> About This Mac?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Viewing modified photos in iPhoto

    Hello!
So, I'm a new Mac user and one of the first things I did was to import some photos from my camera into iPhoto 08. I use Photoshop CS3 to make any modifications rather than iPhoto itself.
Now that I've made several modifications, I notice that they won't show up in the iPhoto library. It's just showing originals! I did a little searching and found there were three different folders made: Data, Originals, and Modified. Why do I care to have an originals folder? If I want my original photograph, I would "Save as..." the modified photograph and that would be that.
    Two things, then:
    1. How do I make iPhoto display the most recent modifications in my photos? (I can view modifications by quicklooking or double clicking on the photo; they just aren't visible in the thumbnail)
    2. Do I need those extra folders? It seems like it would take up a lot of unnecessary space.
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here's how Photoshop should be used with iPhoto in editing photos:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

DO NOT delete, rename or move any file or folder from within the iPhoto Library in the Finder. That's committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto and will render your library unusable. iPhoto uses the nondestructive editing method and preserves the original files as a digital negative so you can always go back to it to start over with a new edit or crop to print. The Data folder contains the thumbnails used for the small views. .
If you have saved those edited versions as .psd files (from jpg files) you can open the library package and do a Finder search for image files with .psd in the file name. Move them to the desktop and import as new files. Or delete them and reedit the photos the correct way. If you do the search method I'd make a backup copy of your library beforehand just in case the results are not what you wanted.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Dead iMac, Looking for Options

My girlfriends 2001 iMac G3 died, and it would not be too much of a problem if it were not for all the photos on her hard drive.
I think i can get the hard drive out but I do not know if there is a specific size of hard drive enclose for the iMac's hard drive.
Can anyone help me out with this?
Also, is there any way I should store the hard drive after I take it out of the computer and before I put it in the enclosure.

The iMac has standard IDE/ATA HD, so you can get almost any enclosure, and put it in there, and then recover your data. I like the Mercury Elite Pro enclosures from OWC found Here. One thing that you should look for when buying an enclosure if make sure it has the Oxford 911 chipset and not the more common - and less expensive Prolific chipset. The only think you should do whilst teh HD is out of the computer is to make sure it doesn't get wet and what not.

  • Looking for System Tables / Views like in Oracle DB - user_constraints, user_tab_columns, ...

    Hello,
I'm looking for system tables or views like in the Oracle Database.
First I'm looking for running /active sessions - like v$sessions or in an RAC environment gv$session
And get the corresponding SQL from v$sql
Second I had problems to drop tables due to constraints.
    Therefore I was looking for dba_constraints, all_constraints or user_constraints
    select * from user_constraints WHERE constraint_type in ('R');
With that information I'm able to generate a script to drop the constraints.
Third I want quick lookup about data types used in a table to correct my settings in Oracle BI.
For example which column in which table of my schema uses the datatype BIGINT.
If only 3 attributes in  two tables out of 100 use the BIGINT datatype - I'm able to quickly change my settings in the OBIEE repository.
    I'm missing a table like user_tab_columns.
How can I get the same information out of TimesTen ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thorsten

    Hi Thorsten,
You should be able to get some of the information that you want from the TimesTen reports that are in SQL Developer.
    e.g.
<TimesTen Reports -> Table -> Columns -> Columns> returns a listing of all the columns and their data types. You can order by the data type column or add a filter (say ='TT_BIGINT') to restrict the result set.
<TimesTen Reports -> Table -> Constraints -> All Constraints / FK Constraints / PK Constraints / Unique Constraints>  returns a listing of all the constraints, their name, the table that the constraints are on, and their properties.
For all the SQL Developer reports, you will be able to see the underlying queries and the TimesTen system tables/ views that they reference.

  • Fix for Airplay inadequacies viewing private photos on Flickr

Recently discovered an excellent app to help overcome ATV weakness re: viewing Flickr photos.
TVOut Genie has a built in web browser as well as a few widgets. Want to see your or your contact's private photos just open the browser to flickr and login. You get full browser experience including slideshow streamed wirelessly to ATV on your tv. Obviously works for all web pages but Flickr was the reason I started this search...
    Just thought I would share.

Full blown Safari on a computer or iOS Safari?
Why doesn't it what? Are you saying it Airplays video from a site Safari on iOS doesn't.  A custom browser might be able to circumvent the Airplay tag by spoofing it being positive, though not sure if this might lead to it being removed from the store.

  • Airport Extreme Causing Kernel Panics - Looking for Options

I have an iBook G4/1.42 gHz/512MB (mid-2005) that is now out of warranty. All of a sudden, it starts throwing kernel panics. I read through the panic log and the log has references to the built-in Airport card. Keep in mind this is the model with the Airport card that is not easy to remove.
I turned off the Airport card and the KP's have stopped. At this point, I'm looking for suggestions. Am I better off trying to replace the Airport card or is there an external device that will suffice at lower cost. Thanks for your input.

I'm in the same boat ... the kernel panics made me think I was using a windows machine. I should have known something was starting to go wrong when the internal fan was turning on more and more -- it must have been trying to cool the airport card off!
Right now, I have airport and bluetooth turned off and I haven't seen panic since and the fan has stayed off. I'm using a firewall connection and internet sharing to my work laptop so my wife can use her email (a very temporary solution).
The www.ifixit.com site has 'cards' for $70 and claim the installation is "difficult" -- they don't even offer installation instructions.
For now, I think I'll run a wire from the airport to the where the iBook normally resides. And maybe when I concede that my iBook won't get fixed by itself, I order one of the external USB 802.11b/g dongles.

  • Looking for "label" in view options

This seems like such a no-brainer that I must be missing something, but is there no way to have "label" as one of the view options? For a lot of music, particularly older stuff, or 50's and 60's soul stuff, even modern indie, really everything, being able to sort by label (record label) should be an everyday option.
Maybe I want to listen to just Dial records today, or King, or Fame, or Norton or Ace...
Can this feature be added, post-haste? Or have I missed it?

Personally, I never think about the record label and can't understand why it would matter. But that's just me.
You can have more than one thing in the comments field and still use Smart Playlists to select items that have the name of the record label in the comments field.
You might want to submit your suggestions to Apple:

    Best of luck.

  • Looking for software to view file in Text/Hex mode

    Hi:
Please bear with me. I just migrated from Windows development and what was widely used there was the way to view files in a Text or Hex mode. I was using the Far Manager that was like an old DOS file manager that allowed all those low-level operations. Is there something like this for a Mac?

    Den B. wrote:
Yeah, pretty much. As I said I came from Windows development and although I love a lot of new stuff provided in XCode, I'm still missing some of my old tools.
I wouldn't try to replicate your old Windows experience. Single-key operations aren't the Mac's strengths. Maybe look at Quicksilver. It will be listed on page 2 of iUseThis's top applications. There are a few hundred other applications there you might be interested in.
    1. It gave a text based file system browser. Take a look at the screenshot:
    http://www.simplehelp.net/images/winfileman/far/filemanager00.jpg
The benefit of using it was that it was showing all hidden and system files that otherwise would be hidden in the Finder, etc.
Most developers take advantage of MacOS X's UNIX heritage and use the command line.
    2. If I highlighted a file (any file) and hit F3 it would open it as text. It also had an option to open it as Hex/Oct/Dec array. It had a built in text search, etc. This is what 0xED does, so I'll definitely keep it. Here's the screenshot of the tool I was using:
    http://dns-300.sergeyzh.org/wiki/media/howto/ramdisksearch.png?w=&h=&cache=cache
    3. I could also change attributes on each file by doing F9 and then attributes. This feature would be very handy too, especially on a UNIX based system.
    Ever tried ⌘ i ?
I don't use keyboard shortcuts so I can't provide good suggestions. I'm pretty sure you could create any number of automator or AppleScripts to do any of these things and bind them to keystrokes.

  • Looking for app to view my webcam

Are there any apps that would allow me to view my webcam from my phone, say i hook up a webcam to my computer and use it as a security camera and be able to view it while im out and away on my phone?

Does your webcam have an IP address?
Is your webcam directly connected to a PC? If yes, you might look into using Google talk. There are tons of ways to configure a webcam, so it's a bit hard to tell.
