Looking for purchase a SSD drive for my DV7-7212NR but not sure what to buy.

I don't know what will fit in my laptop. Notebooks accept 2.5" drives right? Anything else I should know? I was thinking about getting this drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147163
Good reviews. Good price. Good size for what I need it for.
Does it come with the cable needed to hook it up?
Thanks

If you aren't doing any heavy duty photo editing
the base model should work just fine.  I would suggest
that if you go with the base model, bump the RAM
up to at least 4gig, but get it at Newegg or direct from
Crucial or Kingston, it will be way cheaper.

jaimeleighann, that MSCONFIG screen is saying that you've got a Qoologic adware infection, just like i've been saying (in all your other threads where i've tried replying to you).
try replying to answers to your previous posts rather than spraying new threads all over the show. your current posting technique is obviously not helping you resolve this.

T400s, X200 and X200s are mainly built for road warriors where they don't want to carry extra weight and yet still have a powerful enough laptop for their light photoshop work, document processing, HD movies, powerpoint and publisher, etc.
For outdoors you should look to the new 'Special series of X200t (t for tablet)' which has this new screen that is specifically designed for people whom use their laptop in the outdoor environment providing maximum brightness and minimal reflectivity.
    http://www.thinkpads.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/lenovo_thinkpad_x200_tablet_outdoor-viewable-scr...
For movies and streaming hd movies, any of these laptop would be sufficient, as T8xxx, T9xxx Penryn processors are have SSE 4 included that have special algorithm that increases processor efficiency for HD movie decoding. Also Intel X4500 MHD integrated graphics card are specifically designed for blu ray and hd movie decoding without using CPU resources.
If you do light photoshop work, then any of these laptops are fine. 9 cells in a T400s or X200 or X200s should get you upwards of 5 hours use on a single charge.
The T400s have built in displayport out, which is missing in the T400, while the X200 and X200s can use this port only through the ultrabase dock.
The one thing that T400 can be optioned with is the dual gpu if you get the ATI graphics card, which includes the X4500 and ATI 3470 which one use depends on whether you are after graphic processing power or battery life.

  • Looking at External SSD Drive for Lightroom Editing - How Can I Set This Up and Which Drive?

I'd like to purchase an external SSD drive for Lightroom editing and am hoping somebody can provide a recommendation for me.
I'm using a FW800 G-Drive to store my Lightroom Library and have been using this drive to edit.  I'd like to add an external SSD drive for editing photographs an am looking for recommendations on which drive and the best way to set this up.  I plan on having a 3rd (and maybe 4th) to save both the FW800 files and working SSD drive files as a backup.
    Any recommendations are sincerely appreciate.

I believe I was loading a preview file to 100%.  I think maybe I should just use what I have and work with it.  It's much faster than my 7 year old MBP performed that's for sure.
I was just wondering if I could spend a few hundred for an external Thunderbolt or USB 3 drive to speed up my productivity.  With the full time job and the kids, I have a little time to work on photography.  I'd love to increase my output.  I'm more than willing to spend the money on the TB or USB 3 if it would help.
The specs on the camera say 24.1 million pixels:  24.6 MB.  The raw files are
    NEF (RAW): 14 bit, compressed

    hi aqibarain,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Depending on your budget, consider the following in purchasing an SSD:
    - SSD Brand
    - NAND (MLC, TLC, SLC) / NAND Controller
    - Firmware updates
    - Reviews on the drive (Reliability / MTBF, Warranty, etc.)
I personally use an OCZ Vertez 450 as it fits my budget without sacrificing the speed but check this list for more choices.
    More info:
    MLC, eMLC, SLC, TLC

  • Will they install an SSD drive for me?

    Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a 2.5" SSD drive for my Intel-based iMac - will the Apple Store install it and move my existing HD to the slave bus for me? I've still got AppleCare left.
If so, how much would they charge me for?
Also, is there an eSATA solution for iMacs?
    Thanks
    Georgios

The simple answer is no they will not because it's not something they sell. Also I don't believe a 2.5" SSD will fit, the bay is designed for 3.5" hd's. Regarding eSATA drives, again your iMac does not have an SATA port on the back so it will not support an eSATA drive, however if you have an iMac with a FW 800 port that would fine, while not as quick as SATA it's a good solution.
If you still want to go down the SSD path then you can look to see if there are any repair centers in your area that will do the work. That being said if your machine is covered by warranty I'm pretty sure installing a SSD drive would void it.

    Roger

I have a MAC Pro from 2011 currently running MAC OS 10.9.5.  This weekend I cloned the MAC HD drive to a new SSD drive for improved performance.  The clone was completed successfully with no errors.  After the clone completed I successfully restarted my system using the SSD as the boot device.  I then successfully tested all of my products, including Photoshop CS6 and all of its plug-ins.  I successfully tested the key features that I frequently use.  Today while attempting to launch Photoshop CS6 a message is being displayed indicating that a scratch disk cannot be found.  All drives are available on the system via the Finder and Disk Utility.  I can access all drives including the old MAC HD which is no longer the boot device.  I've even attempted to launch Photoshop from the old device yet the same error persist.  Is there a way to review/edit/change Photoshop preferences if Photoshop doesn't launch?  I've even restarted my system several times to see if that would resolve the issues.  Does anyone have any recommendations for this issue?  Have you previously address this issue?
    Thank you Gregg Williams

  • Converting to SSD Drive for Boot Drive on m7 with Win8

I just bought a new m7-j020dx (product code E4S19UA#ABA) with Windows 8 from Best Buy.  Unfortunately, it came with a standard hard disk drive (HDD) and I would like to install a Solid State Drive (SSD).  I have an Intel 320 and 530 series drive.  But I have not been able to get a bootable drive from this.
The first thing I tried was cloning the factory drive to a new 530 series drive using AOMEI Backupper.  I got a write error on the third partition.  I thought perhaps the drive was bad so I tried it again with an Intel 320 series SSD drive.  Same error.
The next attempt was to clone the drive to another 1 TB drive (connected via USB), shrink the main partition with MiniTool and clone to the 320 series SSD.  The cloning went fine.  However, with the new SSD installed, the computer will not boot and I get "Error0x0000225", something about a file not found.  Turning off "secure boot" in the BIOS setup did not help (I did this after the clone).
So I thought I would make a clean install of Win 8.  I generated a recovery disk on a 32GB SanDisk USB drive using Win8's recovery disk generator (as instructed on the HP site).  I then ran the recovery program off the USB drive and after a couple of hours of installing driver software and several reboots, I get an HP message stating the installation was not complete.  Repeating the install did not help.
I am not sure what the problem is.
Is the USB recovery disk a made from the original HDD bad (one only gets one shot at it)?  Do I need to order media from HP on disks?  Are there issues with using SSD drives on these computers?  Do I not have a BIOS settig correctly (UEFI)?  Is there some Intel storage drivers getting in the way?
I think my next step will be to create a disk Image and then put it back to the SSD drive.  But I doubt this fixes the issue with booting to it.
Another option might be to do a fresh build using Win8 media and then download and install each driver from the HP website.
Any ideas out there in the land of experts?

  • Looking for recommendations - new internal drive for MBP

    Hi all,
I have a 17" MBP core 2 duo from a couple of years ago, with a 100GB 7200rpm drive. I want to swap out the drive with a new 500GB drive, still 7200rpm, so I'm looking for recommendations as to what people think are the current best of the crop. Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Antonio

I was looking for a 500GB 7200RPM drive for my MBP 15" at the end of 2008, but no one made one yet. I saw the Seagate ST9500420ASG 500GB 7200RPM 16MB BUFFER SERIAL ATA listed as coming soon on MacMall and a few other places in January 2009 and ordered it as soon as it was available.
I had done some research on power consumption and performance... Tom's Hardware had some good info on the subject. The fastest drives at the time were the 320GB 7200 RPM and 500GB 5400 RPM. If the trends I came across during my research held up, power consumption for the new Seagate shouldn't have affected my battery life too much. All my research seemed to confirm this.
Now that I have been using the drive for a few months, I can tell you that my batter life has taken a HUGE hit. I used to easily get 5 hours with my old 120 GB stock drive... now, I'm lucky if I get 2 hours. Plus, it seems that this drive gets hot enough to cause performance issues.. I'm not sure if that's the case yet, but I will be bringing my MBP into the Apple store to check on it.
At this point, I'm willing to sacrifice some speed for more battery life and a cooler running computer.
All this to say, be sure you're willing to sacrifice some battery life for the biggest and fastest drive around.

  • SSD Drives for Older PowerMacs

    Hi,
I've seen that you can buy SSD drives for older Macs. I didn't even realise this could be done until I saw OWCs website.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried them in a G5 PowerMac? Is there any real noticeable increase in performance?
I have a 2005 Dual 2Ghz G5 Powermac with 4GB RAM and running Leopard 10.5.8. It takes an age to start up, in fact it's that long I go and make a cup of tea while it boots up!! Generally it feels slow too. Would an SSD Drive make it boot faster?
    Kind Regards
    Dave

False information is determined by the fact your information is false.
Did I say ALL SATA Rev. 3 drives?
You said most, which is false.
IF you had more experience and time on this forum
I'm sorry about having a life, I don't sit in front of a computer screen all day as you do.
you would know that there have been many posts regarding this issue
There have been many posts about G5's LCS leaking, does this mean its a common problem or that several individuals out of the tens of thousands sold have wandered onto the Internet to report their problem?
I have owned three with zero issues.
Rather than spend so much effort trying to find fault with information, how about researching your claims and then provide substantiated information on top of your experience?
You should heed your own words.
There are many PPC machines that can boot from external USB drives, USB 1.1 or USB 2.0.
Correct, they require the user to manually change the boot order in openfirmware. That is not native booting, a drive cannot be used as a normal boot disk in that manner.
There are also some that can't, notibly the G5.
The G5s are specifically ones that CAN boot from USB using the method mentioned above.

Looking for a back up drive for photos and videos that works with time machine, prefer wireless. Time capsule has poor reviews and already have BT hub that serves as a good router. 3gb or 4gb capacity preferred but 2 would suffice.

Plug a NAS into the BT Hub that does TM. Look at Synology.
You just use the wireless of the hub.
But the cheapest solution is still the TC.
