Looking for Recommendation for Redundant or Backup ISP configuration: ASA 5510

Good Day,
Currently I have two ASA 5510's version 8.2(5) with the security plus license in my environment. These are configured to failover with the SAME ISP in the event of hardware failure. We are currently trying to introduce ISP backup configuration. I've already engaged ISP's for services, However, I was wonder what this configuration may entail additionally. Can anyone advise on a best practice/configuration  in this regard?
I am trying to achieve high availability for services provided by another company location. Looking forward to any assistance that can be provided.
Thanks much.

Cisco has a whitepaper on setting this up. It's a bit dated but mostly applicable.
With an HA pair of ASAs, we typically setup a switch (or stack for higher availability) between the HA pair and upstream routers. Other than that, the whitepaper is followed.
The only significant issue is whether you have any incoming services exposed via public IP and don't have you own provider-independent address block. In that case, you need to account for how those services will be reachable in the event that your are using the address of your secondary provider. This usually involves some DNS changes or other such work.
Some people offload the whole setup to an external device like a FatPipe Warp appliance.

Looking for help with respect to configuring MS Exchange server to handle attachments over 10 MB for forwarding to Salesforce (Email-to-case).
Problem - SFDC does not create cases from emails that have more than 10 MB of attachments. Our clients will not go-live if their clients cannot send in emails with attachments over 10 MBs
Potential resolution - Configure MS exchange to strip off the attachments(if over 10 MB) and store it in a public folder, forward the email to Salesforce (so the case gets created or the email
is associated to an existing case), the client should have some way to know if the attachments were stripped off and should be able to dlownload the attachments and continue with case resolution.
    Any help is appreicated!
    Thanks

    Hi,
From your description, you want to achieve the following goal:
Configure Exchange to filter the attachments if the size is over 10 MB and store it in a public folder, and then forward the email to Salesforce.
Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that it can't be achieved. Exchange can filter messages with attachments, but it couldn't store these attachments on public folder automatically. Also, I don't see any transport rule can do it.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • Looking for BlackBerry IPD backup file Category Descriptions

    Hi everyone,
For the life of me; I can't seem to find a listing of the category descriptions listed within an *.IPD backup file.
What I'm essentially trying to do, is isolate the sound (alert) schemes and *NOT* have the backup file wipe out the original default schemes that are loaded with a clean install of the BlackBerry Device Software.  Also, having the description list would come in VERY handy for future restores!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
    Thank you!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Hmmm...Category Descriptions...I'm not quite positive what that is...perhaps it's the databases? If so, here's a KB that lists those:
KB03974List of all databases on the BlackBerry smartphone
I'm guessing your attempting a selective restore of certain databases rather than a complete restore. What happens, though, is indeed complete database replacement...whatever the database is that is on the device is replaced by what is in the IPD file. For some databases, there are tricks to merging data that can be undertaken -- mostly for messages, calendar, contacts, and tasks...the standard "organizer" databases, but I know of no method to merge any of the configuration databases (as the alert profiles are).
    Good luck!

  • Captive Portal for Guest wireless using a Cisco ASA 5510 or just 1231 Autonomous AP's

Our environment consists of about 7 Cisco 1231 Access Points.  We have multiple SSID's including a Guest SSID for internet only access.  All Ap's are in autonomous mode.  We have a Cisco ASA5510 at the internet perimeter.  I would like to use what we have in house to setup a way in which all Guest Wirelsss users will be re-directed to a Captive Portal (Splash Page where there are given a custom warning page that instructs them about our Internet Accepted Usage Policy.  Can I do anything with the ASA to dish out a page like this.  I know that I can turn on an AAA rule on the ASA and force those users to have to authenticate when going to the internet but the Prompt page can't be customized too much.  I can add some text but it gets mixed in with all the other default text.
I am not seeing a way to do URL redirection inside of the 1231 AP's themselves.  I know that a controller environment would help me out but looking to find a solution with what equipment the I already have in place.
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
AFAIK.  using Autonomous.. there is no way we can do that..

  • Can anyone recommend a good online backup program?

I'm looking for a good backup Carbonite/Cloud type backup program. I was previously using Carbonite on my PC, but recently switched to  an iMac and would like to know what would work best. I have around 135-150G to backup.
    thanks

Be aware that there are no online/cloud backup services that can backup an iPhoto Libkrary package and restore it as a working library.  The volume format and permissions that are uses do not support the iPhoto Library aliases and complex associations between files in the library.  So use  make sure you hnave a local backup that is on a volume that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) like a Time Machine backup setup.

  • Recommended and supported Hyper-v Server configurations

I am looking for a document that will give me some suggested Hyper-v supported and recommended server configuration. Recently our company rolled out two Hyper-V servers. The host system is configured to be the Domain Controller.
One server was configured to be a Host Server Domain Controller and a virtual server Exchange server.  The Exchange server failed three times.  The host domain Controller had been put into services and was active.  I finally called Microsoft
and was told this would not a supported or recommended configuration and it would continue to fail.  The technical help I had was very good and he pointed me in the right direction to building it directly on the domain controller.  Since the Exchange
server had already been built and the scheme to the domain controller had been extended this was horrendous but it worked.  "Thank you Microsoft technical team."
The second Hyper-V server is setup the same the host server is the DC.  The current virtual server is a SQL server.  This seems to be working. We had some issues at first with network connections but I made some DNS entries and it seems to be stable
now.  This system is to have an Exchange host added to it and I'm worried that it will have the same issues as the first server.  I would like to add it directly to the DC as I finally did the first time but I'm worried it will make the SQL server
    fail.
This is currently in a production environment?  Does anyone have any suggestion or can you point me to a good tech document that discusses configurations?
    Thank you.
    Bonnie Whalon

    Hi Sir,
    >>I would like to add it directly to the DC as I finally did the first time but I'm worried it will make the SQL server fail.
As far as I know , install exchagne on a DC is not recommended (I know it should work).
As to hyper-v serve , it is still not recommended to enable other role on hyper-v host .
I would suggest you to create two VMs , one is DC , other one works as exchange server (If it is possible please build another DC VM for redundant and backup them regularly ) .
Virtualize exchange please refer to following article :

  • Looking for a better way to backup end users

    Hello there.
Not sure if this the best forum for this post but here goes.
Last week my company had a break in and a couple of laptops got lifted. Not a big deal as I had backups of the machines on tape. It did take a while to recover the files though. During that time I got to thinking about a better way to backup and I am looking for any ideas of if this would work or not.
First quick overview. About 60 end users majority with laptops.
What I am thinking of doing is this. Take an xServe RAID configured in RAID 5, for redundancy and speed, and creating a shared folder on it for each of my end users. This way if they need to retrieve a file they can log in and will not have to call me. Then, this is where I need help, use some tool to copy all of their files at specified intervals into their folder, at least once a day. I am currently using Retrospect to backup everyone directly to tape and I could use that to do this but the only thing I do not like about Retrospect is it can only do one user at a time. With 60 users I have to start it pretty early in the day. I know copy files would be alot faster so I am not ruling it out. I was also thinking about using ChronoSync to accomplish this and then use Retrospect to backup the RAID to tape for long term storage. I am ruling out using Home directories on the xServe for my users because they are all laptops and are usually out of the office at least one day a week.
If anyone could offer some ideas of whether or not this is going to work or not or if you have other suggestions, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Daniel Krajc

    Hi,
you could be using a combination of Mobile Accounts (for the settings of the ibook) and rsync (which is installed by default on 10.3 and 10.4), check man rsync for more info.
    regards.

  • PC - Mac... looking for backup suggestions

I never thought I'd buy a Mac (based purely on cost alone), but the big changes in Windows 8 have really turned me off.  What I'm looking for is suggestions on how to migrate.
I'm looking at moving from a desktop PC with lots of storage space, to buying a Macbook Pro.  My current setup is as follows:
Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (DDR3 1600)
    GPU: EVGA 550ti
Primary Drive: 100 GB SSD - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2
1 TB personal drive for media/personal files
    2TB HDD for automated backups
    2TB HDD for manual/secondary backups
Obviously I already have the drives and don't want to spend $300 on a MyBook, but I'll need an external enclosure that is compatible with the new MacBook Pro, and also easy connectivity.  Suggestions?

I agree with you in some part with regard to cost, but maybe not so much with my particular situation.  The Ultrabook I was looking at a few weeks ago was the Lenovo X1 Carbon for $1300 (base price), but since it comes with W8, I would still need to buy a W7 Pro disc for $200, putting the new price at $1500, the same starting price of the 13" MacBook Pro.
I'm also not fond of clinging to older software or OS's.  Microsoft has chosen their path and they're not going to do a complete turnaround with items such as "Metro" or the Start button. It seems like a good time to try something else.  If I don't end up liking the Mac OS, at least they hold their value better in the resale market...
As for enclosures, they are renowned for being poorly built and unreliable.  I was hoping someone here could recommend one first hand.  If the WD MyBook had even reasonable reviews I probably would have just gone that route.  As is, I'm open to any suggestions.

  • A Question and Looking for Recommendations........

First the question: We have a dLink DI-634M wireless router that is hardwired with Cat5 cable to our 17" MBP. We also have a regular MB that we connect wirelessly. And also a Dell Inspiron that we connect wirelessly through the DI-634M. Our problem is that after periods of non-use, we lose our internet connection. It's easily restored by removing the power from the DI-634M and then plugging the power back in. But it's a pain in the butt. Any suggestions as to how to prevent this from happening?
Looking for recommendations: I'm thinking I'd like to get another wireless router anyway. Something in the new N band or whatever it's called. But the main reason is to be able to wirelessly connect external hard drives and printers to the router. Most especially the external hard drives. We've got a little LaCie 160 gig Porsche drive that we use to backup the small MB. Right now I have to make the hard wire connection and do the backup manually. But if we had access to the hard drive wirelessly, I could schedule regular backups for the small MB. So......what wireless routers can you guys recommend? Brand? Model? Which have the least problems? Etc., etc.......
    Thanks bunches!

    Hi,
I don't think I can offer a solution, but I do have a similar problem with my router (supplied with my Sky broadband set-up). It's a Netgear router with 4 outputs. Until a few minutes ago, it was lying on my desk horizontally, but after attaching 2 plastic legs, it now stands vertically. I'm hoping this solves the overheating, as it is left switched on constantly (which probably contributes to the fact that I too have to 're-boot' it from time to time when I lose my Broadband connection).
    Hope this helps.

  • Internal Time Machine "looking for backup disk" (not time capsule)

    Hello,
I have the infamous "looking for backup disk" issue. My Time Machine drive is an internal drive, NOT a time capsule. It is mounted and visible, and the backups show up on it in the Finder. When I select to enter the Time Machine "starfield" UI, all my previous backups are browsable. But when it comes time to actually back up... it just says "looking for backup disk" forever. I've tried leaving it like that for something like 40 minutes, no joy. This is not a huge disk, there are about 700 GB of backups on it. The HDD activity light on my computer is NOT showing any activity when I am idling but it is "looking for backup disk," so I don't think it's scanning the drive or anything.
I have tried turning TM off and on, removing the drive and re-selecting it, unmounting it and remounting it, deleting the TM preference plist file from the library, rebooting, and all manner of combinations thereof. Nothing seems to work.
Anyone have any advice? This is on OS X 10.8.2 by the way. The TM backup worked fine through 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 with no problems until now. I don't recall doing anything specific to mess up TM or the disks in any way, although I may have turned TM during a reboot cycle prior to this happening (don't recall if this is actually the case, but in any case it shouldn't have caused such an error, no?).
    Thanks in advance,
    —Gabriel

[Just a note, TM only works on OS X Journaled drives (i.e. HFS+ drives). TM does not back up your FAT drive.]
    Isaac:
If you unloaded the NTFS and FAT kexts, your TM backups might (might!) work again, but of course in that case you would not be able to see your FAT or NTFS drives in OS X, and if you removed the FAT kext then a lot of USB keys would be unreadable in OS X - not a good solution.
The kexts are specific to OS X, so removing them should not affect Windows... but may affect boot camp, I don't know how boot camp is programmed (which would be a problem). Luckily if your Windows drive became inaccessable from boot camp with removed kexts, it should be easy enough to simply boot back into OS X, restore the kexts, and then Windows should work again.
I would recommend not mixing partition types on drives with shared OSX/Win functions, it seems to "tempt fate" as it were with possible errors. I don't know what has precipitated this error in your case, if it was the MSE or disk error or something else, and unfortunately I don't have a real fix to offer beyond trying things with the kexts removed and seeing if they work.
NOTE THAT THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, messing with kexts is not a very recommendable practice since these files enable core functionality in the OS. Make a backup before if you can, and consider your options carefully. In OS X, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and you'll find a bunch kext files. The two you need are msdosfs.kext and ntfs.kext. Copy ntfs.kext into a backup folder (e.g., on your desktop). Delete the original ntfs.kext from the S/L/E folder. Reboot and see if you can still access windows. If so, reboot into OS X and see if Time Machine works again. If you're good on both those points, then consider going without ntfs.kext on a permanent basis – it is rare that you need to read an NTFS drive while in OS X. On the other hand, if this does not fix your problem, you may try restoring ntfs.kext, and backing up / deleting msdosfs.kext to see if THAT is the culprit. Unfortunately, if msdosfs.kext is causing the TM error, you're kind of out of luck, since going without FAT access will be pretty annoying any time you need to use a drive to swap files between Windows and Mac (using a USB key).
Ultimately I don't have a solution, as I have noted, so much as I've narrowed down where the error is occuring in some peoples' cases (like my own). Good luck!

  • Any recommendations for an automated backup application?

    Hi,
A company that I work for is looking for an automated back up solution.
Currently, they have Intel iMacs running 10.4.10. They want to have automated backups to their Windows server. The protocol used is Samba, if I am not mistaken. They do not want to back up their entire hard drives, only certain files.
The dot mac Backup application is not what they want.
I am not familiar with automated back up solutions in an office environment.
    Any recommendations are appreciated!

I'm not sure if they want to spend the money on an Enterprise level solution, but if they do then there's one outstanding product: BRU.
If they are looking for something mainly client oriented but that can backup to a network device then my choice is Synchronize! Pro X because it provides an almost complete backup solution. About the only thing it cannot do is backup across multiple optical media. It supports backup to network devices and will even mount a network device if required. It also supports a fairly easy method of creating backup sets consisting of selected files and/or folders.

  • New Mac user, new to Wireless - looking for recommendations on a router

Hello all! I am new to Macs, and to wireless in general. I just bought a used Powerbook which of course has wireless capability. So my next step will be to set up a router. However, I have no experience with this, and am definitely not a computer geek at heart. So I am looking for recommendations on a router/wireless network system that seems to work well with Macs (and PC's as I now have both) and doesn't require vast amounts of computer networking knowledge to set up and get working. What works well? What should be avoided? Many thanks for your input! (Oh, if it makes any difference, my internet connection is DSL.)

I would strongly recommend the AirPort Extreme. Its simple, doesn't do much but it does the job perfectly. It never drops out and the distance of the signal is far (you can be online in your back and front yard). And its really easy to setup. And it works with both systems. But I do recommend getting a new one instead of a used one because you'll need the newer version of AirPort Assistant to set it up because older version of Tiger doesn't have that programme pre-installed.
