Looking for Some Examples / Best Practices on User Profile Customization in RDS 2012 R2
We're currently running RDS on Windows 2008 R2. We're controlling user's Desktops largely with Group Policy. We're using Folder Redirection to configure their Start Menus as well.
We've installed a Server 2012 R2 RDS box and all the applications that users will need. Should we follow the same customization steps for 2012 R2 that we used in 2012 R2? I would love to see some articles on someone who has customized a user profile/Desktop
in 2012 R2 to see what's possible.

Looking for information on best practices using Live Upgrade to patch LDOMs
This is in Solaris 10. Relatively new to the style of patching... I have a T5240 with 4 LDOMS. A control LDOM and three clients. I have some fundamental questions I'd like help with..
Namely:
#1. The Client LDOMS have zones running in them. Do I need to init 0 the zone or can I just +zoneadm zone halt+ them regardless of state? I.E. if it's running a database will halting the zone essentially snapshot it or will it attempt to shut it down. Is this even a nessessary step.
#2. What is the reccommended reboot order for the LDOMs? do I need to init 0 the client ldoms and the reboot the control ldom or can I leave the client LDOM's running and just reboot the control and then reboot the clients after the control comes up?
#3. Oracle. it's running in several of the zones on the client LDOM's what considerations need to be made for this?
I am sure other things will come up during the conversation but I have been looking for an hour on Oracle's site for this and the only thing I can find is old Sun Docs with broken links.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
pipelineadmin+*Before you use live upgrade, or any other patching technique for Solaris, please be sure to read http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/E23801/index.html which includes information on upgrading systems with non-global zones. Also, go to support.oracle.com and read Oracle Solaris Live Upgrade Information Center [ID 1364140.1]. These really are MANDATORY READING.
For the individual questions:
#1. During the actual maintenance you don't have to do anything to the zone - just operate it as normal. That's the purpose of the "live" in "live upgrade" - you're applying patches on a live, running system under normal operations. When you are finisihed with that process you can then reboot into the new "boot environment". This will become more clear after reading the above documents. Do as you normally would do before taking a planned outage: shut the databases down using the database commands for a graceful shutdown. A zone halt will abruptly stop the zone and is not a good idea for a database. Alternatively, if you can take application outages, you could (smoothly) shutdown the applications and then their domains, detach the zones (zoneadm detach) and then do a live upgrade. Some people like that because it makes things faster. After the live upgrade you would reboot and then zoneadm attach the zones again. The fact that the Solaris instance is running within a logical domain really is mostly besides the point with respect to this process.
As you can see, there are a LOT of options and choices here, so it's important to read the doc. I ***strongly*** recommend you practice on a test domain so you can get used to the procedure. That's one of the benefits of virtualization: you can easily set up test environments so you cn test out procedures. Do it! :-)
#2 First, note that you can update the domains individually at separate times, just as if they were separate physical machines. So, you could update the guest domains one week (all at once or one at a time), reboot them into the new Solaris 10 software level, and then a few weeks later (or whenever) update the control domain.
If you had set up your T5240 in a split-bus configuration with an alternate I/O domain providing virtual I/O for the guests, you would be able to upgrade the extra I/O domain and the control domain one at a time in a rolling upgrade - without ever having to reboot the guests. That's really powerful for providing continuous availability. Since you haven't done that, the answer is that at the point you reboot the control domain the guests will lose their I/O. They don't crash, and technically you could just have them continue until the control domain comes back up at which time the I/O devices reappear. For an important application like a database I wouldn't recommend that. Instead: shutdown the guests. then reboot the control domain, then bring the guest domains back up.
3. The fact that Oracle database is running in zones inside those domains really isn't an issue. You should study the zones administration guide to understand the operational aspects of running with zones, and make sure that the patches are compatible with the version of Oracle.
I STRONGLY recommend reading the documents mentioned at top, and setting up a test domain to practice on. It shouldn't be hard for you to find documentation. Go to www.oracle.com and hover your mouse over "Oracle Technology Network". You'll see a window with a menu of choices, one of which is "Documentation" - click on that. From there, click on System Software, and it takes you right to the links for Solaris 10 and 11. -

Add a DFS file share path in User Profile disk in RDS 2012.
I'm trying to add dfs file share path in User profile disks .I get a error message "Access denied"
Is it possible to add a dfs file share path ?Hi,
It seems we cannot use a DFS file share path here.
I found a similar thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/d8eafa8f-8999-443f-a2d7-8e6dfa3a2908/user-profile-disk-store-on-a-dfs-?forum=winserverTS
In reply it mentioned "the share needs to be provided from a 2012 server directly as it needs to manage the permissions and share permissions directly".
As you tested you get an access denied error when trying to use a DFS share.

Looking for some best practice regarding Content Administrator access
Hi. I am looking for some best practice or rule of thumb from SAP or from different companies how they address Portal Content Administrator access in Production environment. Basically, our company is implementing portal to work with SAP BW. We are on SP 9. Basically, I am trying to determine if we should have 1-2 Portal Content Administrator in Production with 24/7 access or we should limit them from NOT having this. Can you share with me some ideas of what is right? and what is not?
Should we have access in Production? Or Should we have this access but limited? By the way, our users are allow to Publish BI reports/queries into Production.Hello Michael,

I'm looking for some inspiration here on how best to set up my TC
Copied from a post else where, any help greatly appreciated!!
I'm looking for some inspiration here on how best to set up my TC for my needs & wondering how others do for similar needs....
I have a 2TB TC that I have set up so that all of mine & my girlfriends photo's, music, movies & documents are on the one location so that we can access it wirelessly from both our MacBooks & also from a MacMini which I'm going to buy in a month or 2. Changing the location for where iTunes & iPhoto look wasn't a problem but browsing through iPhoto in particular is really slow due to the number of previews I presume, and also we are now unable to have any of the media with us when traveling about, synching phones on the move is a disaster as well!
Anyway,
is there an easy way of setting up iTunes / iPhoto so that we can have all the data on the TC managed on the MacMini but import small iTunes Playlists & iPhoto Albums to our MacBooks without having to change in preferences where the applications look for data each time we get home?
Any help anybody can offer would be grand!
Thanks in advance.........You topic might be better suited for the iPhoto or iTunes forums, since your question seems to be with the application(s) functionality, not really the Time Capsules. However, if you start iPhoto or iTunes while holding down on the "option/alt" key, you can manually select a library to access. When you want one of your computers to access the library on the Time Capsule, make sure it's mounted as a shared volume on your Desktop and then open iTunes and point it towards the library on the Time Capsule. If you want to use a smaller library on your computer, open iTunes and point it to the library on your Mac. I've never switched back and forth multiple times between multiple libraries, so you might check in the iPhoto or iTunes forums to see if any issues may arise from doing this repeatedly.

Looking for some advice on CEP HA and Coherence cache
We are looking for some advice or recommendation on CEP architecture.
We need to build a CEP application that conforms to the following:
• HA with no loss of events or duplicate events when failing over to the backup server.
• We have some aggregative rules that needs to see all events.
• Events are XMLs with size of 3KB-50KB. Not all elements are needed for the rules but they are there for other systems that come after the CEP (the customer services).
• The XML elements that the CEP needs are in varying depth in the XML.
Running the EPN on a single thread is not fast enough for the required throughput mainly because network latency to the JMS and the heavy task of parsing of the XML. Because of that we are looking for a solution that will read the messages from the JMS in parallel (multi thread) but will keep the same order of events between the Primary and Secondary CEPs.
One idea that came to our minds is to use Coherence cache in the following way:
• On the CEP inbound use a distributed queue and not topic (at the CEP outbound it is still topic).
• On the CEPs side use a Coherence cache that runs on the CEPs JVMs (since we already have a Coherence cluster for HA).
• Both CEPs read from the queue using multi threading (10 reading threads – total of 20 threads) and putting it to the Coherence cache.
• The Coherence cache is publishing the events to both CEPs on a single thread.
The EPN looks something like this:
JMS adapter (multi threaded) -> replicated cache on both CEPs -> event bean -> HA adapter -> channel -> processor -> ….
Does this sounds sound to you?
Are we over shooting here? Is there a simpler solution for our needs?
Is there a best practice for such requirements?
ThanksHi,
Just to make it clear:
We do not parse the XML on the event bean after the Coherence. We do it on the JMS adapter on multiple threads in order to utilize all the server resources (CPUs) and then we put it in the replicated cache.
The requirements from our application are:
- There is an aggregative query that needs to "see" all events (this means that we need to pass all events thru a single processor and we cannot partition them to several processors).
- Because this is a HA solution the events on both CEPs (primary and secondary) needs to be at the same order when reaching the HA inbound adapter and the processor.
- A single thread JMS adapter is not reading the messages from the JMS fast enough mainly because it takes time to parse the XML to an event.
- Using a multi-threaded adapter or many single threaded adapters with message selector will create a situation that the order of events on both CEPs will not be the same at the processor inbound.
This is why we needed a mediator so we can read in multiple threads that will parse the XMLs in parallel without concerning on order of messages and on the other hand publish all the messages on a single thread to the processors on both CEPs from this shared mediator (we use a replicated cache that runs on both JVMs).
We use queue instead of topic because if we read the messages from a topic on both CEPs it will be stored twice on the Coherence replicated cache. But if we use a queue, when server 1 read the message and put it in the Coherence replicated cache then server 2 will not read it because it was removed from the queue.
If I understand correctly you are suggesting replacing the JMS adapter with an event bean that will read the messages from the JMS directly?
Are you also suggesting that we will not use a replicated cache but instead a stand alone cache on each server? In this case how do we keep the same order of events on both CEPs (on both caches)? -
Resources for from design - best practices for layout?
Hi,
I have made a number of forms fo the past few years. I feel like they look dated and are somewhat stale... I have found a few resources out there on Javascript best practices and more mechanical focused articles, but nothing really specific design as it relates to usability and "feel". I realized some of this is subjective and varies depending on the form's purpose, but I am just looking for some new ideas.
Does anyone have a resource or listing of froms they think are outstanidng from a design perspective?
Is anyone willing to share forms they think are outstanding? Just that baisics like information collection?
How much color and line type objects become to much?
What are some design elements used in "web 2.0" (whatver that really means) that we sould be using in our forms. tempered with what can be done.
I am looking for this to be an open disucssion and am curious to hear what works for others. I hope others will find this interesting and helpful.
Cheers,
TomAnd the second snippet code validates any form to check every fields if values are not null, if a value is null it will setFocus on the first null field
2. Validate Form and Focus on First Field that Fails Validation
2.1 Create a script Object with two small methods to return a table of fields that have null values
Script Object :
form1.#variables[0].myForm - (JavaScript, client)
//Tab for field's expressions and field's exceptions
var tabExpression;
var tabException;
function validateAllFields(rootObject){
//If a field is null, stop everything
if (tabExpression.length > 0)
return;
//If the 'presence' property is by default 'visible' in the form and the object value is 'visible', the 'presence' property doesn't exist
//If its default value is "hidden", the property always exist
if (!rootObject.isPropertySpecified("presence") || rootObject.presence == "visible"){
//Verify if the object contains an interface 'button'
//The button is considered as a 'field', so if it's not a button the statement is true
if (!(rootObject.isPropertySpecified("ui") && rootObject.ui.nodes.item(0).className == "button")){
//If the object contains nodes and if it's not a 'field' or a RadioButtonList
if (rootObject.nodes.length > 0 && (rootObject.className != "field" && rootObject.className != "exclGroup")){
//Recall this method for each nodes in the object to find every fields (Recursive Method)
for (var i = 0; i < rootObject.nodes.length; i++){
validateAllFields(rootObject.nodes.item(i));
//Verify to add the object in the list if the object is a field and if it contains a value
if (rootObject.className == "field" || rootObject.className == "exclGroup"){
if (rootObject.rawValue == null || rootObject.rawValue == 0){
//Variable to determines if the object is an exception field
var boValidate = true;
//If there's exception fields
if (tabException.length > 0){
//Verify if the field is in the exception list
if (tabException.indexOf(rootObject.name) != -1){
boValidate = false;
//Add if the object is not in the exception table
if (boValidate)
tabExpression[tabExpression.length] = rootObject.somExpression;
2.2 Create this method in your object as well, and will be called on a click_event
function getValExpressions(rootObject, tabExcption){
//Create new table
tabExpression = new Array();
//Put the exceptions fields value in the exception table
tabException = tabExcption
//Validation
validateAllFields(rootObject);
//Return a null field
return tabExpression;
2.3 The click event is where you write the special validation for different forms
//Create a table with exception fields, can be used for special validation fields or no validation
var tabExceptionFields = new Array("dateField1", "txtComments", "txtTotal");
//Call the validation
var tab = myForm.getValExpressions(Main, tabExceptionFields);
if (tab.length > ){
xfa.host.setFocus(tab[0]);
} else{
var boValidate = false;
var strExpression;
//write your validation according to the fields you need special validation.
if (statement == false){
strExpression = Reference_Syntax.Field.somExpression;
boValidate = false;
if (boValidate){
xfa.host.print(1, "0", (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0);
} else{
xfa.host.setFocus(strExpression);
I will post a form template as an exemple for these function
Enjoy!

Looking for some assistancte in GUI_DOWNLOAD
Hi there,
See I have this exercise I have to do here. Basically I have to create a program that will download the contects of SBOOK to my pc. I have to use GUI_DOWNLOAD in this exercise. Also, the user will have to input the path and file name of the file to be downloaded to. Looking for some advice dealing with Kernel Panics
Hi there! I'm looking for some help regarding constant kernel panics I've been getting on my machine. It has been happening pretty regularly for the last month or so, occuring sometimes three times in one day and other times none. I've been looking to see what might cause the issue and have thus far come up emptyhanded. I can't think of anything I've modified recently that would be causing the issue. I performed a hardware test using AHT and no errors were found. I've included both the most recent report from the panic as well as the EtreCheck report. Any and all advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.
Possible other causes are the software that installed these:
com.splashtop.driver.SRXFrameBufferConnector 1.5
com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer 1.7
com.splashtop.driver.SRXDisplayCard 1.5
com.avatron.AVExVideo 1.7
Now they may be causing panics because the try to use acceleration in the GPU which leads to the panics. You are unlucky to have a particular model that has a real problem with this. -
Looking for an example from app gallery that uses WAAD for identity
I'm looking for an example from the app gallery (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/gallery/active-directory/) that uses WAAD for identity. I need one the show our business what the process would look like for an organization signing up for a SaaS offering
via the App Gallery. I know all the Microsoft applications use WAAD but I was hoping to find a third-party example. What I mean is an app where all tenant and user identity is done using WAAD as opposed to federated identity.I doubt that what you are looking for exists yet.
Cheers,
Markus

Looking for some advice.
Hi. Hope this is right forum. First post. A brief background. Years ago (2007-2008) I created a web portfolio for school. First it was in HTML (Dreamweaver) and then Flash. I hadn't really touched it in years and decided this past couple of months, after playing in the medium again, to get back into wed design, 3d, and digital content creation. That said, I went in and updated both the HTML and Flash versions with the knowledge I currently have, limited though it is. I now would like to go forward and build a completely new site and teach myself HTML, JavaScript, and WebGL along the way (possibly before hand). Hopefully I'll get working on the new site before the end of the year. In the mean time, I'm using my old site as a stop-gap measure. I've also taken books out from the library to begin journey into the above mentioned languages.
This all said, I'm looking for some advice on what direction I should go next...look into... Does my current objective seem reasonable? Also, could anyone give feedback on what I did wrong and what I've done right on my old site. I think, as far as what went wrong, the Flash page is just too large. No one wants to wait so long for it to load. I think I got carried away with it. Also, too many sound effects. That said, I think the HTML site was constructed in an "old-fashion" way. No one makes sites like that anymore. I basically set it up in Photoshop, sliced it, and assembled it in Dreamweaver. The end result is a bunch of tables in HTML? A friend suggested I look into a CMS (?) like WordPress?
Here's my current site: http://www.personal.kent.edu/~mstingle/
Constructive feedback on what I did right and wrong would be great. And, where I should be looking next for rebuild of my portfolio.
Cheers.WebGL is still experimental. Most browsers don't fully support it yet.
http://caniuse.com/webgl
The current trend is Responsive Web Design -- layouts that work in all devices (mobile, tablet and desktop). This technology relies on CSS layouts (no tables) with media queries for different viewport widths. Below is a crude example built with the FluidGrid Layouts feature in DW CS6 or CC:
http://alt-web.com/FluidGrid/Fluid2.html -- resize your browser's viewport to see it in action.
Flash is dead on the web now because the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices don't support it. Animations are mostly being built with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. See Adobe Edge Animate.
If you're not a skilled coder and just want a basic static web site, Adobe Muse might be all you need. http://www.adobe.com/products/muse.html That said, Muse cannot support server-side programming so you can't use it for advanced features like CMSs, blogs, etc...
If you're a Creative Cloud member, you can use Behance & ProSite to build & share your portfolio online.
http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/behance-community.html
http://prosite.com/
In terms of your own site, ask yourself how much content & which features it will need to support in the coming months/years. If it's going to be a relatively small site (under 20 pages), a static HTML site is probably all you need. IMO, WordPress -- a dynamic CMS built with PHP & MySql databases -- would be overkill. However, if you plan to make your site into a blog for example, then a dynamic CMS is an option to consider. WordPress isn't the only kid on the block either. There's also Drupal, Joomla!, and many more...

Looking for some advice on what to do about
So I have a macbook pro - late 2007 model I guess
2.16 core duo(just before the core 2 duo's i guess)
2gig's ram
ATY,RadeonX1600 256mb
My problem itself is in 3 parts
1.) My battery fried late 2008(have it running off the adapter since) and I was wondering if my model will fit with the 2008 model batteries? If so do you know how much it would cost(cdn dollars if possible)
2.) My video card is from what I believe to be ruined/terrible shape. I've been using SMC fan control for awhile to sway the overheating, and it helps but I believe the damage was already done while I did not have it active while using my computer for games and other various things(MBP's seem to run insanely hot?)
I will be calling the apple store i bought it from tomorrow but I was looking for some advice on any type of diagnostic tests I might be able to do to test my video card as well how much would it cost to replace(assuming you can't upgrade much in a laptop)
3.) Wondering your opinion on the overall value of the computer with the replacements/without.
It appears to run perfectly fine though sometimes when program's open up I start to see tearing and pixel's looking crazy all over my screen(assuming a fried video card)You can buy the battery design for any old MacBook Pro models (not the unibody). MacBook Pro from the first to the last generation uses the same battery. It cost $129 (not sure how much it cost in Canadian but probably a $20-$30 premium). As for your graphics card, Apple has a one price model for all hardware repairs ($310 or something around there and converted to Canadian probably around $350 to $360). I think you should get it replaced. The only test that I can think of is to re-install the OS and see if the problem occurs, if it does then its most likely a hardware issue. There is no standard test that's widely available. With the replacement I think the computer values in the range of $1800 to $1500) and without the repair I would say about $1350 to $1000 at best.
