Looking for some VPN advice on c7200 and possible serious problem

Hi all,
I am looking for some advice on how to figure out few things.
customer has a c7200 with VPN module and seen the following
15.2(4)M4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
Vpn7# Show crypto isakmp sa
Exemple: x.x.x.x  y.y.y.y QM_IDLE 14020 ACTIVE ( repeated around 700 times)
Vpn7# IKE-Session : 2517 active, 5120 max, 3169 failed
Hardware Encryption : ACTIVE
Number of hardware crypto engines = 1
CryptoEngine VAM2+:7 details: state = Active

DH : 55 active, 5120 max, 0 failed
IPSec-Session : 1628 active, 10230 max, 0 failedhe would like to know whether these messages allude to some kind of serious problem or show the normal operation of vpn routers. because they need  to analyse their business related incidents and do prevent actions
therefore if someone could give  give me some advice if there is any problem with the hardware i would greatly appreciate it
thanks in advance
Lance

I'd make sure to read the contract and any associated fine print really, really carefully before doing this. But back to your question - this is more of a marketing question and I'd suggest hiring a good marketer (or become one) to make the most of this opportunity.
And how do you find a good marketer?
I'd suggest using Seth Godin (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/) as your guide/model. If the person you want to hire knows and follows Seth's good marketing advice, you'll likely do very well. If they don't know who Seth Godin is and are obsessed with SEO rankings and email blasts, I'd be very worried (that's not to say SEO rankings and email blasts are "wrong" but that they shouldn't be the only options in your marketing approach).
Good luck!

  • Looking for some helpful advice for a website idea I have

    Hello,
For the past year, my company has had a contract for a tech device manufacturer to maintain a project benchmarking the prices, specs, user features, etc. of their products against their major competitiors. It is quite an in-depth comparison and contains more than 100 products. It is up to date with new product releases and will continue to remain current on the newest products. Anyway, the contract is almost up and I am thinking that the project could be more lucrative if I created a website with all the information I have gathered over the past year. My problem is that I have never created a website for profit. I have created a personal website and my company's website using a combination of CS5 DW, FW, and Flash. I know some html, php, mySQL, and flash, and am fairly comfortable with the CS5 software in general.
Like I mentioned, I am new to trying to make money off a website, but here are two potential ways I have though of to to do so:
    1. Just throw all the information on the websites and offer access to all users for free and hope to gain advertising revenue from the manufacturers who have their products on my site.
    or
    2. Offer a sample of basic info on all of the products, but require a subscription for full access (maybe $199/year).
My target market will consist of the manufacturers themselves, IT professionals, and resellers of these products.
Im also wondering if I should make it Flash-based and very visually appealing or just in html.
I guess i'm just looking for an opinion on which path to choose and any advice in making this effort successful.
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Looking for some guidance on an Internet and Wan failover design

    Hey Everyone,
I have a project that has been somewhat dropped my lap.  The person who was going to do the project has abruptly bowed out.  I'm stuck in a position where I can either find another contractor, or just do the work myself.  For sake of saving my company, and putting another notch in my belt, I think I'm just going to do it myself.  For background info, I am a CCIE Collaboration.  I have held a CCNA in route switch for several years, and have used it extensively.  I have done some pretty large networking projects.  But I've never done this particular aspect of route switch.  I'm hoping someone here can point me to a good location for reference materials or videos.
Here is what I'm looking to do.  We have 30 branch offices, with 2 major data centers.  Both data centers have a 100mg internet, and a 50mg mpls connection.  Today our MPLS comes directly in to a Cisco 3945 router and then uplinks in to our datcenter on a 3750 stacked switch.  Our internet connection comes in to a HA pair of ASA 5510's and then also uplinks to our switches.  All of our branches come back to the datacenters over the MPLS for their internet services.  Today, all of our offices go to our west coast datacenter.  The only thing using our east coast datacenters internet is that office itself.  I want to achieve two goals:
    1) Make all internet connectivity load balance. If one site loses internet, all traffic routes to the other site.
    2) If the MPLS is lost, I want the datacenters to reroute traffic through a VPN tunnel between each other
The way I understood it from the person who left the project is that I need to bring the internet connection and the MPLS in to a single router, or pair of clustered routers.  That router can then make the patch selection and handle the BGP with our carrier.
    Thank you all in advance.

I acually have similar setup at home using a 2611 router and forwarding port ranges to multiple ips on the internal network and it works great! My issue is that I have one dynamic ip assigned by my ISP and eventually I will have to manually change the ip for each nat statement. I wanted to know if there is a way to point to the outside interface instead of using on ip address. I found out that you can use a static nat statment
"ip nat inside source static tcp 10.0.0.2 22 interface fa0/0 22" instead of
"ip nat inside source static tcp 10.0.0.2 22 72.xxx.xxx.85 22 extendable"
but I cannot find how to point my route-map to the interface to fully resolve this dynamic ip change in the future. My config is listed below which works great if you have static ips assigned by your ISP!!! Though I would love some guidance on the dynamic issue if possible. Thanks

  • Looking for some workflow advice

I'm starting work on a project that has media coming from several different sources, and I'd like some workflow advice. I'm using the CS6 Production Premium suite on a Windows7 computer. My primary video source is a Canon XF-100 shooting 24/1080p MXF video, but I'll also be incorporating AVC-HD shots taken with a 60D, XA10, GoPro, and iPhone. So, here are my main questions:
    1. Should I transcode or not? Most of the footage (at least 2/3rds or so) will be from the XF-100, which Premiere can edit natively. I'm inclined just to put the AVC-HD clips straight into an MXF-formatted project and let Premiere render them in the sequences as needed. But I'm also wondering if it would be better for overall quality and consistency to transcode everything into the same format before importing into the project and set the project to that format.
    2. If I do transcode, what format? Should I just convert the AVC-HD stuff to MXF for use in an MXF-native project? Or should I convert everything to another format entirely?. If so, which one? (I'm thinking AVC-Intra 100 at 24/1080p, but I'm not sure.)
Any experienced sages out there want to offer their $0.02? Thanks in advance,
    Stu

transcoding will not produce any better quality. you can actually degrade the quality in most cases, unless transcoding to raw.  transcoding is usually done for proxy editing to allow for faster editing, or compatibility, if the original file cannot be read by the editing application. premiere pro usually handles mixed formats well, just make sure to either create the sequence from a clip that matches the destination format or create a sequence manually and specify the format that will be used for export.
if you do need to transcode to get some files to read, the avid dnxhd codec is a popular choice as it takes very little cpu and gpu resources to read.  it has several quality options you can choose from, but it is limited to 1080p.  if you transcode for faster editing (proxy editing), use dnxhd 36 8bit, and relink to the originals when done to keep their quality.

  • Looking for some help/advice on LabVIEW

Hello, I'm completely new to LabVIEW but have a project to do and was wondering if anyone could give me some help/advice/ideas.
I need to use LabVIEW to interface with a power meter (Agilent E4419B) via a GPIB cable. I have a GP10 card. I have the drivers from the NI website. Can anyone think of any other software/hardware I may require? Or any advice about the best way to go about this from experience?

Yeah sorry I am being very vague!
Basically I am wondering how you actually go about setting up LabVIEW to communicate with the meter - is all I need a GPIB card and cable? How do the drivers actually work? Do I need to use any different commands to interact with the meter or do the drivers serve this purpose?

  • Looking for some development advice...

    Platform
    Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, 10.2.0.4
    Windows Server 2003 R2
    Development Framework
Front-End is written in PHP which interfaces with Oracle packages.
    Application Category
    Data Mart / Ad-Hoc Reporting
    Problem at Hand
I'm responsible for the development of the PL/SQL interface to a data mart. The application is used to present charts of various complexities to the end users. The database been designed using the snowflake / star schema design methodology. The design effectively has one fact table with approximately 5 dimensions.
Ideally I wanted to pre-compute all the necessary measures and store them in a materialized view (a.k.a. "summary tables") for very quick response time to the user, using the GROUPING SETS, and ROLLUP extensions to the GROUP BY clause. However, there is a requirement which allows a user to exclude fact records (based on particular dimension values). This means I cannot pre-compute the measures, unless I'm missing something.
I am open to options, but I feel my only way out is to generate the SQL dynamically and return a REF CURSOR to the client. Almost everything is subject to change as far as an SQL statement is concerned. The SELECT list depends on the report and the columns chosen. Same goes for joining dimensions to the fact table, as well as an expected dynamic WHERE clause.
If that is the case do any of you have lessons learned with taking this approach? My concerns are (in no particular order):
    1. Modularity
    2. Maintainability
    3. Performance
With a dynamic SQL approach and no ability to pre-compute values performance may or may not become an issue as I can only index base objects.
Maintainability and modularity are my biggest concerns. I want to code in such a way that it at least has a fighting chance of being maintainable for me or any successor. Normally I would try and consolidate common functionality into re-usable modules, but this seems like a difficult approach in this scenario. The reason being that at some point later in time a change to one report may not happen on another and this 're-usable' module would have to be split up. On the other side of the coin I could develop each report without consideration for others. The problem with this approach is that if I have to make a change, it may affect more than one report and it leaves an opportunity for bugs to creep up.
Basically, just throwing this out to you all to see if there was something glaring I missed, any passed lessons learned, or if I have to trudge along with what I have now.
    Thanks!

    Centinul,
First, let me confess that I am not trying to come as an expert here, so apologies if some of this is irrelevent or wrong.
After reading your OP, I remembered my early days in IT. Basically, I started my career in IT as a front-end programmer,
developing customized applications. During those days, I have, more than often, seen demands, either from customer or
from so-called "project managers", about a DYNAMIC reporting systems which can be used in any way desired.
Now, the idea initially sounds very attractive and I used to be very much disappointed at that time that I did not have
skills to build such a reporting tool. Basically, some people demand it because they are used to doing all sorts of "magical"
things with tools like MS EXCEL or because they had heard of some commerical reporting product that does "amazing" things. When I use dynamic, it's kind of loose in definition. However, I am DEFINITELY trying to weed out the "need" versus "want" in terms of requirements :)
Long story short. Have you decided TO BUILD this reporting application AFTER carefully reviewing following things?
    a) Expectations of customer/management from the reporting systemI'm trying my best to do that. Unfortunately the customers (unknowingly) like to participate in a rapid prototyping process which I dislike.
    b) Based on expectations, the budget available (I know this might sound off the track but not so much in my experience)They are aware.
    c) more importantly, are there no commercial products in market which you can just buy ? There can be 2 answers to this
question. Either there are no commercial products on market that can satisfy the requirement OR there are products
available but they are too "expensive". In either case, it would help a lot to keep all stakeholders aware of WHY & HOW
have you arrived at the decision of building a reporting system.I'm trying to explore all options that I can. However, it is not as easy as a client/server architecture. The customers are located in geographically different locations and hence they need this information via the Web. In addition I have unique constraints when it comes to purchasing other products, especially when it means getting a new vendor involved. In most cases it's easier to work with what we have.
I have taken a brief look at Oracle's OLAP / Analytic Workspace functionality, but I haven't been able to find a way to easily remove "branches" from the hierarchy and retrieve aggregate results from the next level up. I could be missing something though.
Now, some technical (finally :) ) questions.
    1) You said you wanted to use materialized views in order to speed up the process of generating results. Does it mean you
expect to have millions (or billions) of records in your fact table and hence on-demand grouping or aggregating will not
meet reporting SLAs?Millions of records are expected to be there. However, the frequency of load is very low (as in once a year, twice a year) so I wanted to create materialized views to pre-compute all the aggregates I need to make access fast. However, if I can't even get a static SQL statement then this option is out the window.
    2) Looking at the example that you have given, it seems (to me) there is no alternative but using dynamic SQL.That's what I was afraid of. If that is the case does anyone recommend any best practices?
    3) Will the application not have any pre-defined reports ? Will the users be given free-hand to select any of the combination
of 5 dimensions? That sounds a bit too flexible but what do I know. :)All the reports are predefined dealing with usually no more than four dimensions at a time. One dimension will be displayed on the final report with the measures, and the others are typically used to filter out the final results. From a simplicity perspective I could assume there would be a selection for ALL filtering dimensions EVERY time which means I could have a STATIC JOIN clause. However, there is an equal possibility that the user WILL NOT filter upon any particular dimension and therefore I don't want to include a JOIN to another table that is not even being used as this may hamper performance.
However one of these filtering dimensions is very similar to the hierarchy example I gave in a previous post. This is where a user wants to be able to exclude "branches" of a dimension but obtain aggregates at a higher level.
Another requirement is that some of the aggregates are sums, averages, regressions of individual measures. Therefore another layer of complexity is introduced which needs to manage a dynamic SELECT list.
    4) Most importantly, how much maintenance window will be available to load data in this DWH? Does the reporting system
SLAs exclude this maintenance window or is reporting system expected to be available 24x7?See #1
That's probably all I can think of at this stage but this thread is interesting. I will keep an eye on this to see what you decide
finally and what was your thought processThanks for taking an interest and I hope it makes sense.

  • Looking for some information/advice

To all, I am a oracle forms developer in the Phila, Pa area. Over the last couple of years
I have seen a drop off in the number of oracle forms jobs. Can anybody shed some light on this? I do have experience in other oracle tools such as pl/sql, sql*plus, sqlloader and oracle reports. I would like to stay in oracle. What are the up and coming oracle technologies I should be looking at? Should I be looking at the oracle industry
applications?( I have experience in Oracle financials older version) What other areas
would be good for me to go into?
What blogs should I be reading and what user groups should I be attending?
    Thank
    You
    Jerome Greene Oracle Developer Analyst

Oracle says it is committed to the long-term support of Forms as long as customers continue to use it.
However it is, as you have observed, a situation where customers are moving to other technologies.
If you are committed to front-end development it is time to take Java classes and begin working with JDeveloper. If not your skill set will adapt more readily to PL/SQL programming and database development.

  • Looking for some help / advice (kind of long)

I will try to keep a long story short, but basically I am having multiple problems trying to install Leopard.
I purchased the family pack knowing that I would install Leopard on two of my computers. The first is a PowerBook G4, and the other is a MacBook.
I was installing OSX on the MacBook and had to shut the computer down during the installation. After that I could not get the DVD out of the drive and the OS would not start. I got the DVD to eject with some encouragement with a paperclip, but I think I ruined the DVD. I erased the drive via target mode and basically have a fresh computer.
The other computer has a fresh HD and currently has 10.4 installed.
I did create a disk image of the 10.5 DVD prior to losing anything.
I am now stuck with two computers and cannot get Leopard on either one. I am now trying to figure out how to get Leopard onto either one. I cannot get either one to install via the DVD (it's slightly scratched up due to my impatience) but I can read the DVD and view its contents on the PowerBook.
I do not have a DL DVD to burn the disk image onto, but I do have a SL DVD but I am not sure if I can cut X Tools off of the Install DVD and still install the OS (assuming there is enough space).
I do have a USB HD and have tried to install through that but I cannot seem to get it to work. The USB drive has all of my information on it and I can't wipe it to install 10.5 onto it.
I am very, very limited to the resources I currently have (working on a project in India) but I am fairly knowledgeable with Mac's.
I can't quite figure out what to try next and I am more than open to suggestions. Sorry this is kind of long winded I just wanted to make sure I got all the details.
    Thanks

Depending on your resources available and your need/hurry to install it, there are possible solutions.
First, try and see if the disk (and drive) still works - in which case, no problem - install from there (let it do the disk self test which might take an hour or so). If the disk works, but the drive doesn't, and if you have a firewire cable, use the other machine (PowerBook) in target disk mode and put the DVD in to it, power up the MacBook with Option key pressed, boot from the DVD and install - this would most likely work (one thing I don't know is the Intel/PPC difference in the firewire target for INSTALLS - I do remember reading about some problems installing that way, unconfirmed). If the disk doesn't work, then you'd have to revert to the DMG you created.
Copy the DMG to the USB drive - you MAY get lucky if your MacBook boot off the USB (some people have success with it, esp. if their USB drive has been partitioned with GUID). So that is a possible way to install (if you get a boot option while powering up with the Option key pressed). Again, you have the option of using the MacBook's drive as a temporary storage for your files on the USB drive to format it to GUID, then copying them back to the USB drive, if you want to try it out. This again assumes you have a firewire cable. This method will work if you have the Intel/PPC issues I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Do a websearch for installing leopard from DMG files (include USB in the search if you want to go that route). There are several articles on it.
If all else fails, give Apple a call. In India, call 080 2574 4646, according to http://www.asia.apple.com/buy/ - they should be able to ship you a new DVD (or at least you can buy a firewire cable) overnight - I have been surprised how good the courier service is there. My recommendation is to get a replacement Leopard DVD, so you can have it for future use (and a firewire cable, if you don't have one). Good luck!

  • Looking for some advice on CEP HA and Coherence cache

We are looking for some advice or recommendation on CEP architecture.
We need to build a CEP application that conforms to the following:
    • HA with no loss of events or duplicate events when failing over to the backup server.
    • We have some aggregative rules that needs to see all events.
    • Events are XMLs with size of 3KB-50KB. Not all elements are needed for the rules but they are there for other systems that come after the CEP (the customer services).
    • The XML elements that the CEP needs are in varying depth in the XML.
Running the EPN on a single thread is not fast enough for the required throughput mainly because network latency to the JMS and the heavy task of parsing of the XML. Because of that we are looking for a solution that will read the messages from the JMS in parallel (multi thread) but will keep the same order of events between the Primary and Secondary CEPs.
One idea that came to our minds is to use Coherence cache in the following way:
    • On the CEP inbound use a distributed queue and not topic (at the CEP outbound it is still topic).
    • On the CEPs side use a Coherence cache that runs on the CEPs JVMs (since we already have a Coherence cluster for HA).
    • Both CEPs read from the queue using multi threading (10 reading threads – total of 20 threads) and putting it to the Coherence cache.
    • The Coherence cache is publishing the events to both CEPs on a single thread.
The EPN looks something like this:
JMS adapter (multi threaded) -> replicated cache on both CEPs -> event bean -> HA adapter -> channel -> processor -> ….
Does this sounds sound to you?
Are we over shooting here? Is there a simpler solution for our needs?
Is there a best practice for such requirements?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Just to make it clear:
We do not parse the XML on the event bean after the Coherence. We do it on the JMS adapter on multiple threads in order to utilize all the server resources (CPUs) and then we put it in the replicated cache.
The requirements from our application are:
    - There is an aggregative query that needs to "see" all events (this means that we need to pass all events thru a single processor and we cannot partition them to several processors).
    - Because this is a HA solution the events on both CEPs (primary and secondary) needs to be at the same order when reaching the HA inbound adapter and the processor.
    - A single thread JMS adapter is not reading the messages from the JMS fast enough mainly because it takes time to parse the XML to an event.
    - Using a multi-threaded adapter or many single threaded adapters with message selector will create a situation that the order of events on both CEPs will not be the same at the processor inbound.
This is why we needed a mediator so we can read in multiple threads that will parse the XMLs in parallel without concerning on order of messages and on the other hand publish all the messages on a single thread to the processors on both CEPs from this shared mediator (we use a replicated cache that runs on both JVMs).
We use queue instead of topic because if we read the messages from a topic on both CEPs it will be stored twice on the Coherence replicated cache. But if we use a queue, when server 1 read the message and put it in the Coherence replicated cache then server 2 will not read it because it was removed from the queue.
If I understand correctly you are suggesting replacing the JMS adapter with an event bean that will read the messages from the JMS directly?
Are you also suggesting that we will not use a replicated cache but instead a stand alone cache on each server? In this case how do we keep the same order of events on both CEPs (on both caches)?

  • Making an Arch Linux wiki-reader Android app - Looking for some advice

Hey guys, hopefully this is an ok place to post this. I've just finished a beginning Java course and I'm starting on the next one. I'm learning Java with the intention of creating Android applications as a hobby. Since I've found myself accessing the wiki from my phone on many occasions, and this doesn't seem overly difficult, I think this is a good place to start.
I've been playing with this idea for a couple of weeks and I'm trying to determine the best way to approach this. I'm looking for any pointers/advice from a development standpoint and any (potential) user feedback as well.
So far, with the help of other Archers, I have come up with the following three options:
    1) Obvious choice- Connect to the actual wiki online
    Pros:
    +Always up to date
    +Small application size
    Cons:
-More difficult to strip current style and "mobilize" layout (there is a lot of clutter and links to outside of the wiki)
    -More permissions that other choices
    -Requires internet connection
    2) Use the arch-wiki-docs package
    Pros:
    +Offline
    +Easier to add css styles
    +Hopefully would require zero permissions
    Cons:
-Application would be large ~40MB (Maybe it could be reduced by removing non-english languages?)
-Not up to date, but pretty close
    3) Use the arch-wiki-lite package
    Pros:
    +Offline
    +Small application size
    +Hopefully would require zero permission
+More of a native android application feel instead of a dedicated webpage reader
    Cons:
    -No links to other pages
-Would need to create style/layout from scratch
-Not really sure how this would work (Searching, etc)
-Not up to date, but pretty close
Right now I'm leaning towards the second option, but only if I can figure out an automated way to strip down the html pages and remove the non-english pages. I'm thinking that I'll start with an English only version, then add international support (or a second version) later on if people want it. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks for the response!
rickeyski wrote: 1. Any app you make will require you to generate your own layouts android uses xml layouts there are webviews, which provide some of this functionality if you need to use html, however this will require online access.
The arch-wiki-docs package is in HTML and I'm using WebView to read it locally. The arch-wiki-lite package is a text file. Maybe I could import it into a database? Either way, using that package will require me to create the whole layout.

I've used Titanium Studio before, which I think is pretty similar to Phonegap, but I do want to make this one with Java.

40MB is the compressed size. The html docs are over 100MB uncompressed. I think I could significantly reduce the size by removing the non-english pages, but I can't figure out a systematic way to find them. There are 3551 pages and they use names like 00000965.html, 00000967.html, 00000968.html, 00000974.html, etc. (Of those 967 isn't english, but the other three are.)
rickeyski wrote: 4. the biggest plus is the android docs and examples apps are very good, start reading.
Yup. I've been reading through those a lot. They are a big help.

  • Looking for some advice dealing with Kernel Panics

Hi there! I'm looking for some help regarding constant kernel panics I've been getting on my machine. It has been happening pretty regularly for the last month or so, occuring sometimes three times in one day and other times none. I've been looking to see what might cause the issue and have thus far come up emptyhanded. I can't think of anything I've modified recently that would be causing the issue. I performed a hardware test using AHT and no errors were found. I've included both the most recent report from the panic as well as the EtreCheck report. Any and all advice is appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    The likely culprit:
The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.
Possible other causes are the software that installed these:
    com.splashtop.driver.SRXFrameBufferConnector          1.5
    com.avatron.AVExFramebuffer          1.7
    com.splashtop.driver.SRXDisplayCard          1.5
    com.avatron.AVExVideo          1.7
Now they may be causing panics because the try to use acceleration in the GPU which leads to the panics. You are unlucky to have a particular model that has a real problem with this.

  • Looking for some advice.

Hi. Hope this is right forum. First post. A brief background. Years ago (2007-2008) I created a web portfolio for school. First it was in HTML (Dreamweaver) and then Flash. I hadn't really touched it in years and decided this past couple of months, after playing in the medium again, to get back into wed design, 3d, and digital content creation. That said, I went in and updated both the HTML and Flash versions with the knowledge I currently have, limited though it is. I now would like to go forward and build a completely new site and teach myself HTML, JavaScript, and WebGL along the way (possibly before hand). Hopefully I'll get working on the new site before the end of the year. In the mean time, I'm using my old site as a stop-gap measure. I've also taken books out from the library to begin journey into the above mentioned languages.
This all said, I'm looking for some advice on what direction I should go next...look into... Does my current objective seem reasonable? Also, could anyone give feedback on what I did wrong and what I've done right on my old site. I think, as far as what went wrong, the Flash page is just too large. No one wants to wait so long for it to load. I think I got carried away with it. Also, too many sound effects. That said, I think the HTML site was constructed in an "old-fashion" way. No one makes sites like that anymore. I basically set it up in Photoshop, sliced it, and assembled it in Dreamweaver. The end result is a bunch of tables in HTML? A friend suggested I look into a CMS (?) like WordPress?
    Here's my current site: http://www.personal.kent.edu/~mstingle/
Constructive feedback on what I did right and wrong would be great. And, where I should be looking next for rebuild of my portfolio.
    Cheers.

WebGL is still  experimental.  Most browsers don't fully support it yet.
    http://caniuse.com/webgl
The current trend is Responsive Web Design -- layouts that work in all devices (mobile, tablet and desktop).  This technology relies on CSS layouts (no tables) with media queries for different viewport widths.  Below is a crude example built with the FluidGrid Layouts feature in DW CS6 or CC:
http://alt-web.com/FluidGrid/Fluid2.html  -- resize your browser's viewport to see it in action.
Flash is dead on the web now because the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices don't support it.  Animations are mostly being built with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.  See Adobe Edge Animate.
If you're not a skilled coder and just want a basic static web site, Adobe Muse might be all you need.  http://www.adobe.com/products/muse.html   That said, Muse cannot support server-side programming so you can't use it for advanced features like CMSs, blogs, etc...
If you're a Creative Cloud member, you can use Behance & ProSite to build & share your portfolio online.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/behance-community.html
    http://prosite.com/
In terms of your own site, ask yourself how much content & which features it will need to support in the coming months/years.  If it's going to be a relatively small site (under 20 pages), a static HTML site is probably all you need.  IMO, WordPress -- a dynamic CMS built with PHP & MySql databases -- would be overkill.  However, if you plan to make your site into a  blog for example, then a dynamic CMS is an option to consider.  WordPress isn't the only kid on the block either.  There's also Drupal, Joomla!, and many more...

  • Looking for some advice on what to do about

    So I have a macbook pro - late 2007 model I guess
    2.16 core duo(just before the core 2 duo's i guess)
    2gig's ram
    ATY,RadeonX1600 256mb
My problem itself is in 3 parts
1.) My battery fried late 2008(have it running off the adapter since) and I was wondering if my model will fit with the 2008 model batteries? If so do you know how much it would cost(cdn dollars if possible)
2.) My video card is from what I believe to be ruined/terrible shape. I've been using SMC fan control for awhile to sway the overheating, and it helps but I believe the damage was already done while I did not have it active while using my computer for games and other various things(MBP's seem to run insanely hot?)
I will be calling the apple store i bought it from tomorrow but I was looking for some advice on any type of diagnostic tests I might be able to do to test my video card as well how much would it cost to replace(assuming you can't upgrade much in a laptop)
3.) Wondering your opinion on the overall value of the computer with the replacements/without.
It appears to run perfectly fine though sometimes when program's open up I start to see tearing and pixel's looking crazy all over my screen(assuming a fried video card)

You can buy the battery design for any old MacBook Pro models (not the unibody). MacBook Pro from the first to the last generation uses the same battery. It cost $129 (not sure how much it cost in Canadian but probably a $20-$30 premium). As for your graphics card, Apple has a one price model for all hardware repairs ($310 or something around there and converted to Canadian probably around $350 to $360). I think you should get it replaced. The only test that I can think of is to re-install the OS and see if the problem occurs, if it does then its most likely a hardware issue. There is no standard test that's widely available. With the replacement I think the computer values in the range of $1800 to $1500) and without the repair I would say about $1350 to $1000 at best.
