Looking for speakers at South Reading Camera Club

Hi All,
I am the Secretary at South Reading Camera Club and we are planning next season's programme of events.  Last season we had a speaker from Canon UK which proved to be very successful and popular and I was wondering if there was someone from Adobe or the Adobe Community who would be interested and able to come and speak to our friendly group.
There is no specific topic we are looking for, and are open to most photography related topics.
If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch.
Regards,
Mark Stokes
Secretary SRCC

I would suggest you look at http://www.dpreview.com and also try some camera / photographic forums. This forum is really for the discussion of Aperture Software Installation, Setup and General Usage.

  • Looking for app to keep list of club members, payments

    I run a small club, and each month the members pay me £20. I'm looking for a basic app that lets me keep a list of names, and who's paid each month.
    Any ideas?

    That sounds a bit like phraseup (although phraseup is a site rather than an app):

  • Looking for on advise on a camera apps

    Looking for the best camera app for an iphone4

    Though this is clearly a personal opinion based question left much too broad, I will give you my list of most used camera apps:
    1. Apple's Native Camera App
    2. Instagram
    3. Photovine
    I have tried Camera+ and some other photo apps that simply took up too much of my time. I prefer a much more straighforward method of shooting and sharing through apps #2 and #3.
    Happy shooting!

  • Elderly women who is partially blind looking for an app to read bills

    does anyone know of an app that runs on an iPad that will read bills etc .... my friend is in her late 70's and can read larger print items but can't read her bills

    I had some other things to say in that post above but when I edited it, I think I took too long.  So I'm just going to repost my edits here, and you can get my words twice!  This one here has things like the link to a webpage describing the app, knfbreader.com.
    =============  EDITED TEXT FOLLOWS! ==============
    Cassidhe, and others who have visual limitations, pay attention here:  GET THE "KNFB READER" APP!
    If you are looking for an app that can read to you or someone you know, and it's not something that's digital (so like, paper bills or prescription medication bottles or a can of food or what have you):  get the app KNFB Reader.  It will run on an iPad, and it will ALSO run on an iPod, which is SMALL and something someone can CARRY with them very easily. (When in public, bring a little set of headphones for privacy and so you don't bother others!)
    The KNFB Reader app has a great history helping totally blind and partially sighted people.  It started about ten years ago as a camera strapped to a PDA device, later it became a phone, and now the software has been put into an app for both Apple and Android devices.  Those other products used to cost over a thousand dollars, this app is $99.  I realize $99 may seem a lot for an app but we are talking independence and freedom here, I cannot stress how this is for a person, they can view these things privately and is way better than that other garbage that's out there and pretends to read stuff and then doesn't.  You might not understand if you're not a blind person.  You need the thing to work as much as possible.  KNFB Reader isn't perfect, nothing is, but I don't think anything can beat it.  And for $99?  You get what you pay for:  I've used it to read everything from canned ingredient lists to menus in restaurants.  It's the real thing.
    I do not represent KNFB Reading technologies (but they make VERY helpful software for the blind, like Blio, the eBook app and store packed with blind navigable eBooks, get that thing after getting the KNFB Reader).  What is different about KNFB Reader is that it has gone through far more testing than any reading app you will find, ever.  It's got a huge customer base for reading apps.  And unlike the others it can read things like the label on a bottle of medication because it's designed to read curved items (where letters are different sizes when you take the picture).  It's also nearly instant, and has a button that will tell you how much of a page it currently sees (called field report I think).  It will tell you things like "the top and bottom edges are visible" (of the page), so you know to reposition your device to try taking the picture again. The other button takes the picture and viola!  It's done and it starts speaking right away.
    The K in KNFB Reader stands for Kurzweil, as in Ray Kurzweil, the man who made the first reading machine in the 1970s.  It's his project.  The NFB of KNFB stands for the National Federation of the Blind, which doesn't have anything to do with the current company, but it's an organization made up of blind people that do all kinds of things for blind people, in this case, helped get this company off the ground.
    So go and get the KNFB READER and start taking some snapshots of the paper bills or ATM screens or whatever and it will read all kinds of things!  Some things it won't with or might have trouble with but keep at it -- and you never know what you could have it read:  television screens, street signs, all kinds of crazy things!
    Here's a web page that tells you all about it!

  • Looking for speakers for my iMac...

    I am looking to wire multiple speakers in our house so I can play music on my iMac and get the sound to where I want it to be. I am looking for any advice on brand choices, necessary configurations and/or adapters. I would like to have an expandable system so I have the option to wire at least 4 speakers to reach multiple floors of house, and I would like to keep cost down (under $300?)
    Anybody have recommendations?

    You could just get a few airport express' either used off eBay or if your budget stretches some new ones, you can then plug whatever speakers you like into them and stream the music to either one or more than one of them from your iMac wirelessly over your network, if you have an iPod touch or iPhone there is even a free remote control app allowing you to play what you want from your iTunes library and to which speakers.

  • How to set the defualt directory of where to look for a file to read

    I am reading a file from a servlet. I wanted to see where Tomcat would write the file if I didn't specify a path. The results surprised me. It wrote the file in: "C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Start Menu\Programs\Apache Tomcat 4.1". So I looked through server.xml to see if perhaps this path was set there but didn't find anything. I right clicked on the "Start Tomcat" target to see its properties and there it was. There was a field "Start in:" and it contained the aforementioned path. I changed it to what I wanted but there has to be a way to set this in server.xml. How do I do this. my guess would be something like :
    "<Context path="" docBase="c:/theDefaultDirectory" debug="0"/>", but this didn't work. Any light on this subject would GREATLY be appreciatted,
    silas

    Well, actually, it opens file where the process is currently located on your fileSystem. since you seems to be using windows, the process is started in the directory written in the "Starts In" field. Now you could use the command line (the ugly MSDOS like window), go to some directory and starts the tomcat process from there, and the files would be created in that place.
    The docBase tells where tomcat should look when looking for pages (html jsp, etc...). If you want to use it, you can still refers to it as :
    new File (yourServlet.getServletConfig().getContextPath("/myfile.txt"))Another track to check would be to look in the System.getProperties. There has to be some property that gives the current JVM path, try to change it to the location you'd like it to be and see if it conforms to how you'd like to see it works.
    Still, remember that you can have multiple Context in your servlet container, so there's no reason for tomcat to set the JVM default path to the docBase from one or another (File is a global JVM utility, not a J2EE only feature !!).

  • Looking for a smart card reader compatible with Mac OS X 10.5

    Hi there,
    I am looking for a smart card (card with microCPU) reader which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 .
    In substance, what I need is a little space to store all my passwords in, due to the fact that I might forget one: I have many to remember!
    I have an USB key, but I use it in many computers, even in ones whose security cannot be 100% trusted.. and I want no doubt when talking about safety.
    Here's an image of what I want in poor words:
    http://www.ordnas.it/prodotti/lett_mem/imgpr1592-01-3.jpg
    The main issue is that most SC readers are /not/ Mac compatible.
    So what brand should I opt for ? What costs should I expect ?
    Thank to everyone who'll help.
    Tyrexionibus

    Thank you for your answer.
    This might be a solution, I'll take it seriously.
    Can this other be a solution too ?
    http://www.athena-scs.com/product.asp?pid=1
    On the manufacturer's page, it's stated that it's compatible with Mac OS X.
    41 bucks + shipping + the price of a smart card..

  • Looking for a good media reader

    I am looking at either the SIIG 11 in 1 media reader for my express card slot or the Cables unlimited brand, My question is, the SIIG had issues in 10.4 with not allowing the MBP to sleep when installed and also XD cards would not mount does anyone know if this has been addressed in 10.5? Also has anyone used the Cables unlimited express card and if so how do you like it? Does if fit flush against the case when inserted? If not for the need for an XD slot I would get the Sandisk express card which has all the other media types as the first two. It seems like every time you buy a new gadget is has a different media type than anything else you currently have.
    Thanks, In Advance
    Jerry

    After alot of googling around I might have answered most of my questions, The best express card readers for Mac is either the Sandisk or Sonnet if anyone has had any issues with these Please let me know the only thing I have found is that some of the higher capacity cards may not mount with the Sonnet reader. Can anyone verify this?

  • Looking for a good ebook reader program tht also downloads metadata (besides Calibre)?

    I like all the information that Calibre is able to download for my ebooks but the interface is so clunky and non-Maclike that it's a little painful. Other apps like Bookreader and Scarlett have a much nicer look and feel but don't download metadata at all, they just show what's already there.
    Does anyone know of a ebook reader app for OSX that is able to download metadata like Calibre can? Any help would be greatly appreciated -- thanks in advance!

    Very good write-up.  I've had my W540 for almost a week.  My thoughts:
    The Case:  The screen feels a bit flimsy to me, I think that's due to small hinges mounted near the edges.
    The Keyboard: I don't mind the offset keyboard, my current and previous Dells have had these, but they were 17.3" and 17" screens. I'm in engineering so I'd much rather have the extra numbers keypad than a centred keyboard. Although I don't like the CTRL and FN keys being the other way around.
    Night light: Haven't really noticed not having one as I haven't had one in the past. My Dell has backlight keys.
    Function keys: Don't particularly like this but once I found they could be locked on using the FN / Esc combo I just use this. It stays locked even if I reboot which is handy.
    Hard drive activity light would be handy, as would numbers and caps lock.  I've disabled the on-screen notification, that was just a pain. Sort of cr*p you would expect from Microsoft and all their silly tips, etc. that I disable as well.
    Touchpad: I've commented elsewhere that this is the worse I've even seen. Absolutely useless. I've disabled both the touchpad and touchstick (again, useless) and just use a mouse.
    Screen: Dreadful! I've got the 1920 x 1080 LCD.  The icon size is ok, I've got it set to the smallest I can.  However the screen looks washed out at the bottom. Again, I've posted about this before.
    Mine doesn't have a SSD and only has 4 GB of memory, so I find it very slow.  This is not a workstation unless you go for all the bells and whistles, otherwise it's ok for MS Ofifice and the internet but not for serious work. Forget programs such as AutoCAD and the like, too slow and the screen is too poor.
    Anyway, thats my opinion, I'm sure others will love this unit and disagree with me.

  • Looking for a method that reads in a whole row for data rather than using getString();

    Hi,
      I'm using java to read from oracle and Netezza and I'm wondering:
    Is there a method for capturing a row in a variable in order to print that entire row out to a data file or a UNIX file in this case.
    Right now I have this code I'm working with:
      //STEP 4: Execute a query
      System.out.println("Creating statement...");
      stmt = connection.createStatement();
      String sql;
      sql = "SELECT SRC_ID, SRC_CD, SRC_DSC, CKA_SUB_ID FROM SRC";
      ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
      //STEP 5: Extract data from result set
      while(rs.next()){
    //Retrieve by column name
    String SRC_ID  = rs.getString("SRC_ID");
    String FIRST_ROW  = SRC_ID+", "+SRC_CD+", "+SRC_DSC+", "+CKA_SUB_ID;
    //Display values
    System.out.print("SRC_ID: " + SRC_ID);
    System.out.println(", FIRST_ROW: " + FIRST_ROW);
    Is there a way I can replace the getString with a "getRow"?
    Right now the best I can do is to create and use the FIRST_ROW variable. However I want to be able to do this generically so I can read different tables and write them to data files.
    Thanks!

    Is there a method for capturing a row in a variable in order to print that entire row out to a data file or a UNIX file in this case.
    Is there a way I can replace the getString with a "getRow"?
    No - there is no such 'ROW' entity in Oracle.
    Download and use Oracle's free Sql Developer and you can use a simple query like this:
    select /*csv*/ * from SCOTT.EMP
    That will produce a comma-delimited result set with one record for each row. Then you can save the result set to a file.
    Oracle SQL Developer Downloads
    See this article by Jeff Smith that shows how to get result sets as CSV (and several other) formatted data.

  • Looking for a good PDF reader

    Is there any PDF reader out there that displays two pages side-by-side when turned sideway? I tried GoodReader but it doesn't do that.

    You can find a lot of info out there with google! Try out a bunch and see what you like best in the end!

    Anyway, there's some more reading. I use Evince... more or less because I'm used to it. I have had problems printing every once in a while, and I hate that it's default is not to display continuously (requiring a pg dn at a page break).
    For editing (annotating and misc) I have used either pdfEdit or gimp.
    Good luck!
