Looking for suggestions for a new display: What size, resolution and refresh is recommended?

I've been using my laptop display, 15.6" and its just too small. I figured I'd purchase a display to plug into the laptop. I'd like suggestion on specs. I figured a 20 to 23 inch would work ok but I've seen some folks with dual screens. Lastly, I have no understanding of resoution, refresh rates to look for or brands to either look at or stay away from.
Any help would be great.

The good news is that you don't need to worry too much about the specs -- just about any monitor you purchase will be OK. First choose a size that fits in you work area, then pick the monitor from that range of products that has the highest resolution and refresh rates -- the monitors will all have very similar specs.

I've never understood the value of having dual monitors, unless one needs to have a couple of real-time monitoring apps open at the same time for instant feedback about the data....

You're not obligated to insert a gift code. But you can purchase gift codes on the Apple online store (gift cards or certificates) or Apple Retail store
Gift codes are pre paid cards so you can use credit on the iTunes Store to purchase content

I've looked at that, but on my PC, "look for remote speakers connected with airtunes" isn't an option.
The only options I get are "prevent ipods [etc] from syncing automatically" , "warn me when [X %] of the data on this computer will be changed" and "forget all remotes". Its also got a list of backups I have saved, as well as a button to reset sync history.
When I am playing a song, the "airplay" button isn't even visible.
I am sure that the apple tv setting is on as well. Is there anything else you can help me with?

Guess we're stucked and live with it. I hate this policy of limiting accounts to use on a device but the good thing is I just logged in using my account and asked my daughter what are the apps and music she wanted to download on the device. After we load everything she needs, I just deleted my account in the device and disassociated it from my iCloud account. It's still works as intended but the only caveat is she cannot use the find my ipad application.

It depends a lot on how you use the device.
Emails and web pages are small with little impact. Music is more average sized files but people can have hundreds of them. Movies and videos are your largest files. I use the smallest size because you can always save info and content to the computer. Syncing allows you to move content from the computer to device whenever you'd like. I rotate 7 gb of music onto my ipod then put a different 7 gb every couple weeks. I never have to listen to a song twice. If you don't have a computer, travel a lot, or store a lot of large files, like films to watch, you would definitely need something larger to get by.

I've heard it only supports 4k at 30 Hz. Is this true?

For some reason Displays no longer shows that information, so I don't know what it is. However, the last time I saw the information on a 2009 MBP it was 75.
I'd think there is a utility around that might provide the info like Display Maestro 1.1.7 or SwitchResX.

I have sent a number of sizes to iPhoto for use in an iBook and they all are too big for the software so I get cropped images even when zoom slider is at it's smallest.
This is very frustrating. I am on a dealine. Please help.

Is your question about a printed book? If so, you likely want to redirect your question to either the iPhoto or Apertuare forums, depending on the software you'll be using to submit your book for printing to Apple.

Looking for new camera - what is compatiable and what is best ??

I am purchasing a macbook pro in the very near future (next week) and am also in need of a new camera. What brands are compatable? Is there a list that I can reveiw?

1. Are you buying a camera that shoots RAW or one that shoots only jpegs? If jpegs then any camera that saves to a card - compact flash, SD etc - will work with iPhoto. Buy a USB card reader, they're inexpensive and save on wear and tear on the camera. Then pop the card from the camera into the card reader and iPhoto will import them.

What size/resolution is acceptable for FLV (in today's world)?

I'm experimenting with video compression in FLV format. I don't know if my resources are outdated, but they seem to tell me that a size/resolution of, say, 240 x 136 is an acceptable size (I'm working in 16:9). This seems pretty small to me, especially by today's standards. For example, YouTube videos (and many other sites I've been on) have much larger videos than that. I want my videos to be comparable. So, I've been experimenting with 640 x 360. Am I crazy? Or, has this become one of the common standards of video size in today's tech-advanced world?

Well, that's a question that can be answered many ways.
Personally, I've read that having the dimensions divisible by a power of 2 (8, for example)
makes encoding/decoding more efficient. So for 16:9 media I use 600x336.
It seems to look pretty good and work well with most net connections.
That's using Flash vp6 with a reduced framerate for maximum compatibility
across platforms.
For media that is shared among people with good Internet connections
and updated Quicktime, I'll go 1280x720 using H.264 for better image quality.
Don't forget that preparing the footage for compression can make a big difference.
If necessary, boost gamma a bit to bring out details. Crush the blacks. Etc.
The best way to make this type of decision is to take a test clip, encode it with different
resolutions, and watch it in different online situations (friend's house, at work, in a café, etc.).

New workstation - what to keep and what to buy?

At last I´m about to buy a whole new workstation. I mainly eidt AVCHD files from my Panasonic HMC 151.
My 2 year "old" PC is a i7 920 with 12 GB ram and 2 X 1,5 TB harddisks (SATA/3 GB/s). I bought a FX 3800 graphics card to upgrade the PC.
I have thought about just upgrading to fx i7 970, but I have other issues besides from CPU speed. I´m getting tired of slow editting, noisy fans and powersupply, bad playback (hacks and stuttering), mysterious hangs and crashes inside PPro CS5 etc. and do not know if I should just buy a brand new Workstation or maybe try to keep some of the best things from my old PC and put it into the new one?
What I am looking at right now is the following. I guess it will give me a boost in perfromance, be more noiseless because heat is not as big an issue:
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 4x3,40GHz (Turbo 3.80GHz)
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 motherboard
Kingston 16GB DDR3-1333 RAM (maybe 24 GB if possible - might be HyperX and 1600)
nVidida Quadro 2000
2 x Seagate 3,5'' 2TB 64mb 7200rpm SATA3 6Gb/s - model number ST32000641AS - in RAID? Which one?
Maybe a Kingston Hyperx 120GB SSD Sata3 (Solid State Disk) for system? Worth the money - or should I waiut and see if its fast enough allready?
I´m in doubt if I should keep the quadro Pro 2000, use my almost new 1000$ FX3800 and save some money or maybe downgrade the 2000 Pro with e GTX 570 and use the FX 3800 in my old PC as a spare system? I could also downgrade even more to a GTX 550 and then put that card in my old PC and my FX 3800 into the new workstation?
I´m also in doubt wich harddisks to choose - are , wich RAID and if I should use SSD for system or not?
Basicly all I need (and want) is a system with an acceptable noisellevel (> 25-30 db would be nice) and wich is able to give me a smooth and funny videoeditting experience.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thx in advance guys!

Sorry about the RAM confussion - you are right - I did forget I was talking about a new MOBO.
I have thought about the 980, but I think it vwill be to noisy for me - and it is quite expenssive as well. What would be the benefits from choosing the 980 over the i7-2600? I guess the number of cores?
Finally - wich HDD shuold I choose - I´m not to much into RAID - had some very bad experiences with that in the late 90´es and have not yet recovered from the loss ;-(
How would you do if you should make a RAID +0 setup - and think about heat and noise - i think HDDs are noisy - the quicker the noiser - or am I all wrong here?

Macbook pro over 5 years old phoned up because it fell onto the floor and mad a big bang looked at screen it was cracked and battery looked liked it had exploded i explaind what had happend and was told that it was normal how dangerouse is that no warning

mac book pro 17 over £2000 when new in the middle of the night i heard a loud noise found out that my laptop was on the floor looked and seen screen was craked and that what looked to me the battery had exploded coursing it to fall on to the floor the was nor warning and have had no recal letters from apple warning me that this may happen . so i phoned up apple and was speacking to some one i have thare name but wont say explaind what had happend an he said that it was normal to my shock as if it landed on any one or poss a pet as it was random .he said it was normal more than once and also i was on speaker phone and had some one else listening .i asked for him to send me what he had said via email but he said he could not so he put me through to some one called katalin who said to ignore what he had said . but at this stage i had two isues one that my expensive laptop is damaged .and the second it thta thay admited liyability by saying it was normal
after many emails and phone calls i think there best offer was if i spend about 184 pound thay would give me a £54 discount which as i have just spent over £2200 on new macbook pro was a bit on an insult
i do under stand that batterys do charge but as i had no warning especial if this was going to happen
if as thay said this is normal as it was bourght from apple direct should thay have sent a letter or email as thay would have had my details warning me that this can randomly happen as in my case .

u can give try to using external enclosre and backup ur files. I hope u will get files back. or using external enclosre with ur hdd boot into Linux and try to mount ur harddisk.

Address won't populate when creating a new tab or a new window. back & forward, favicon and refresh disabled. What do i do to get these back?

Firefox 6. When opening a new tab or new window, back and forward arrows, favicon and refresh are disabled. Url field will not populate with current window, but if I click on the favicon the url will populate with the current web site. At the same time a message is display "this web site does not supply identity information".

I disabled all plug-ins and extensions. the problem has been resolved. Now I will enable each one individually to find out which one was the offender.

Macbook display unexpectedly changes resolution and cannot be changed

The internal display resolution recently changed unexpectedly such that I now have 1 inch black bars on both sides of my display and the right, left and bottom edges of all images and applications are not viewable. I have gone to system preferences to change the resolution, but the dialog box for changing the resolution pops up far to the right and off of the viewable screen to the point that I am unable to select a different resolution. I have not installed any new hardware or software recently and did not change the resolution, this problem occurred spontaneously. I can see the edge of the display resolution settings box, but I am unable to drag the box to the viewable screen or select any of the other resolution options. Help!

Try starting in Safe mode and see if the screen boots into a normal resolution when starting safe. If it does, change the resolution to something not native that still is useable. Then restart normally and see if the problem is gone. If so, set the resolution back to what it should be (1280 x 800).

Hi,
First of all u have to Create ur own PF-status and Assign Fcode e.g 'INSERTROW'.
So, whenevr you will click Insertrow button it will be triggered in your User Command and then just Append the blank line in your Final Internal Table.
And Refresh Icon will be there by default...
To Trigger it You have to write rs_selfield-refresh = 'X'
