Looking for the BEST java IDE

Hi
We're evaluating java IDE's (especially JBuilder & VisualAge) for a Client-Server project that uses RMI (there is no Web development\HTML\Bens involved)
I would appreciate any recommendations, suggestions, articles or reviews that you have.
thanks in Advance...

Both of these IDEs are very solid pieces of software each with their own advantages.
JBuilder is similar to most other java IDEs. It takes less time to become productive in JBuilder than it will take in Visual Age because Visual Age takes a non-standard approach to java development. Be sure to look at a recent version of JBuilder because early version support for remote debugging was very poor.
Visual Age has some of the most advanced java development features of any IDE I've ever used. The downside of this functionality is that it takes quite a bit of time to get accustomed to the IDE. Visual Age doesn't use files like most other IDEs opting instead to provide a completely separate archiving mechanism called a Repository.
If you're looking for something that will take very little time to learn, JBuilder is the better choice. It doesn't have as many features as Visual Age but it's also a lot more like most IDEs and has just about everything most java projects will need.
If you're team is composed primarily of Sr. developers and you're willing to take the time to learn the IDE, Visual Age is well worth the investment. It's a pain to learn but once you learn it you won't want to go back to file based development.
Of course, if you're looking for something between these 2 in terms of features and complexity, download the community edition of forte and give it a whirl.

I'm setting up an office-to-office videoconferencing system. I've got the video down, but I'm looking for the best audio I can get. The sound will be stereo output, but I need really good microphone input. Echo cancelling is a must, but the Windows XP echo cancellation sounds like a bad telephone connection. Does anyone have any ideas? Are any of the mic inputs better on one SoundBlaster than on the others?

  • Im looking for the best stylus available for the ipad mini retina. for creative design

I am a designer and would like pressure sensitivity if available. I have seen the pogo connect which looks great but does it support the mini retina yet? Or the best alternative? I will be using paper and Adobe ideas. THANKS!

I agree with Miklos - the 53 is nice at first, but is awkward and heavy. It has a huge rubber tip and is stiky on the screen. I like the amPen Hybrid Stylus on Amazon. They are under 8$ and are a great quality stylus that actually works! They have the fiber mesh tips that can be changed out when you want a fresh tip. They also come in a variety of colors. Was able to get a stylish black on for myself and a pink one for my wife and daughter. We also got a 5 pack of the tips they sell so we ould have extras when we need them. The stylus tip is the best part though. It is soft and glides nicely on the screen. It is not stiky and clingy like the rubber tipped stylus pens you see these days. Link incuded. They even have free shipping! Can't beat that for under 10$

  • Looking for the best way to upgrade OS

Ok I have just reinstalled the old OS X 10.3.9 onto my 14" ibook g4 1.33 and I have 768gb of Ram with a 60 gb hdd. I was running OS X 10.5.8 the reason that I did this was I bought the laptop at a pawn shop and everything on it had the other person user name to it. I wanted this to be mine so I re did the whole thing. Now I need to know which way to upgrade the OS should i get 10.4(tiger) first then go to 10.5, or would be going straight into 10.5 be a better route. I am wondering this because I am new to this platform, and I do not want to do things the wrong way. If you guys and gals have any Ideas on which is the best course of action to take it would be huge welcome.
    Thanks again Beny

what is it specifically you wish to do? Right now, the widest support is going to be for 10.4 & 10.5. The 10.4 disc are so hard to come by & copies of leopard are drying up fast.
Now, not to lower expectations, but with your iBook, but most online video streaming is going to have studder & you won't be able to play HD content. iMovie 09 won't install without a hack.
With that said, your iBook should work fine with iPhoto, DVD playback & files which are non HD - h.264 codec based, Firefox, lots of printers & scanners, media & file sharing over a local network, wireless connections (with good routers like linksys or the aiport bases).
when I take a machine & install fresh, my core list of apps include firefox, camino (mozilla based browser, runs lighter than ff or safari), VLC, perian, flip4mac, Cyberduck ftp, and some office suite (iWork - Neo Office - MS Office).
anything else you would like to do? hope this helps

  • Looking for the best hard drive digital camcorder!!

I was in the store today and asked a couple sales reps, each giving me their opinions that personally didn't sound like "educated" opinions.  I want a hard drive camcorder with 60 GB and that is the "best" meeting that criteria.  Should I look at Canon's, Panasonics, JVC, or Sony???  I want it to be super easy to use with ease of DVD creating as well.  Battery life should be good also.  Vista compatible a must.  I would appreciate any "educated" opinions that I can get.  Thank you..

    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu one. Set the format type to MS-DOS. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to MBR then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
The drive should be usable on both a PC and a Mac.

  • Aspiring video editor looking for the best system!

I'm a young buck (as the old hands would call me) in the "prosumer" video industry. I've made a few short films with a cheap Panasonic point-and-shoot and Windows Movie Maker or Serif MoviePlus SE. First off, my camera: It's not overly great. Scratch that. It's pretty darn bad for what I want it to do. I end up having to modify my raw footage in post to make it look decent. Crappy framrates, the whole bit. I'm looking at a Sony NEX VG-20 camera (runs about $2100) which should last me for a long time due to the fact that it supports interchangeable lenses, so I can do more with different shots. It will also help me with still shooting as well. But that's not the point. I feel like I'm being held back by my software. And hardware too, for that matter. I'm currently doing all my editing on a Gateway PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. It's got a 2.9 gHz i3, 6GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and no dedicated graphics card. It's not bad in terms of speed, but it's a family computer so I can't use it whenever I need to, and I can't dedicate the hard drive totally to video and whatnot. But my biggest problem is software. Like I said, I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker. That's not a bad little app, but it's really limited in what it can handle. there's no timeline, just storyboard, so intricate editing tasks are essentially impossible. You also can't do much with audio. I've managed to make it work with some tricks I've learned since I started using it. For my last project I used Serif MoviePlus SE. This is also a free program, with some more adavanced tools for audio syncing and a more technical and useful interface and toolset. However, the output options are pathetic, and it insists on exporting my widescreen HD video in a 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9. It's rather annoying. Also, you can't use any transitions without having a huge watermark on your video for about 10 seconds. I thought about buying the full version, but I didn't know if that would be wise, since I'm not really sure what the full thing can do.
So thus began my search for a new system and software to make my movies. I originally was looking at building a PC for gaming and editing. then I realized that would be redundant, siince I already have an Xbox that I game on. So then I was looking at buying a pre-built PC, but that wasn't looking so good either. Then I did some surfing and found that the general consensus is that Mac's are better for creative design stuff like this anyway. Which led me here. I was looking at Final Cut Pro X, which looks perfect for my needs and budget. However, Macs tend to run expensive in comparison to PCs. But FCPX was really "calling me". So after looking at what exactly Macs can do, with Thunderbolt and such, I wanted some opinions: iMac? MacBook Pro? MBP with Retina? Mac Pro? I won't be able to afford anything for several months yet, therefore making this a potentially harder decision with the rumored release of new Mac Pros and iMacs. I need some opinions. No hurry,I'd like to try to keep the price of the computer under $2500. Thanks in advance for any opinions...

The top iMac compares favorably with the Mac Pro for the price, & 12 cores don't get used much outside of benchmarking...
    iMac "Core i5" 2.5 21.5-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 7241/7970
    iMac "Core i5" 2.7 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench:           7844/8565
    MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.5 17" Late 2011... Geekbench: 10706/11699
    iMac "Core i7" 3.4 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 11648/12651
Mac Pro "Twelve Core" 2.66 (2010/Westmere)... Geekbench: 20294/22605
I'd say the 27" iMac with the Extra VRAM.

  • Looking for the best route to take in setting up dvd

I'm new to this, and don't have time to make many mistakes... SOO I'm looking for advice.
We're setting up a DVD (duh) and it's rather complex. I'll try to explain it as clearly as possible:
1 - main menu - that links to 5 'sections' and a play all button.
2 - within each section, there will be a play all or 'clip' selection option. Each section will have approximately 5 to 12 clips ranging from 30 seconds to 7 minutes each.
    My questions are:
-- how should i set up each section? Do i keep all the clips as seperate clips? or do i create one big movie from the clips for each section and use chapter markers? or should i create stories for each section out of the individual little clips?
I guess i don't quite get how to do a play all in each section AND do a play all of ALL the sections -- the easiest.
Am i giving enough details for anybody to help me out on this?
Thanks for any help in advance!!!
    Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Let's start again
1.) Add all the video clips to ONE track
2.) The first clip will AUTOMATICALLY have a marker added at its beginning
3.) Add a Marker at the Beginning OF EACH clip (but default it will be Chapter 2, then Chapter 3 then Chapter 4 then Chapter 5. You do this by clicking Above the time line
4.) take a look at this picture it shows these steps http://dvdstepbystep.com/STORIESDETAILS/03_SD.jpg, IGNORE the green and orange JUST focus on the Blue (the Green is audio so you should have one Green)
5.) Highlight the Track which is in the Green Folder in the Blue section here http://dvdstepbystep.com/layofland.php (the menu is highlighted in that image, you will have to move down)
6.) Click Add Story which is in the Red Section (also the green icon 6th from left in this picture) http://dvdstepbystep.com/STORIESDETAILS/03_SD.jpg
7.) You will see a story added in the track, the little green icon beneath the track icon to the left hand side here http://dvdstepbystep.com/
    STORIESDETAILS/05_SD.jpg
8.) Click on the story Tab at the bottom of the window as show here http://dvdstepbystep.com/STORIESDETAILS/06_SD.jpg
9.) Then drag the markers from the left hand side to the right.
If you drag Marker 1,2,3,4,5 into the right the Story will PLAY ALL
10.) If you just drag Marker 2 in for instance, that story will ONLY play section 2.
11.) Create a PLAY ALL story with all 5 markers.
12.) Create a Story for each section by ONLY dragging the marker for the section
13.) If you want to play from chapter 2 on, target the jump from the button to the Play All Story::Chapter 2

  • Looking for the best way to load data to the appended ODS

    Hi all,
I appended ODS with some new infoobjects.
if there is a way to load data only to these datafields without all data deleting and then all data reloading?
    thnx

    Hi Andrius,
If your ODS is set to be overwritten AND the newly appended IOs are not key fields then a full upload without data deletion will works. Because old entries will be overwritten by new ones which have values for the appended IOs.
On the other hand, if your ODS additive then from my point of view you need to remove all data and then reload again. Or else key figures would be doubled after a full upload.
