Looking for XTRA to control a digital camera
I am looking for an xtra that will let me control a digital
camera. It is for a kiosk that captures photos of users. I used
several in Xtras in the past that worked wonderfully but they
appear to no longer exist. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Using webcamxtra, you could get the image and then sharp xtra
to save
the file to the desktop. Not much control over the camera
exactly...

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling. I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working. I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4 base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords. I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn. The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up. Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address. When the AEBS is set to bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS. I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS. In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding. However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope. What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have. I've hit the wall with what I know.
Thanks. In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first. -
Satellite A100: looking for software to control the fan speed
Hi,
I'm looking for software to control/read out the fan speed of my laptop, because Power Saver does not seem to do anything. It does not seem to matter if i set the 'Cooling Method' to 'Battery Optimized' or 'Maximum Performance', or even the fixed CPU processing speed. I've (de)installed the Common Module & Power Saver a couple of times to no avail.
Also SpeedFan & NHC do not work.Hi
Sorry but I do not agree with your opinion about Power saver utility. Do you really believe that Toshiba create tool like this for nothing? Just for info: power saver utility is not available with Vista OS and on this forum you can find topics where people really missing this nice and useful utility.
Anyway it is well known that many tools you can find on the internet have no much influence on notebook cooling fan speed. To be honest, something like that can be very dangerous because most users want to have silent notebooks and overheating issues are totally underestimated.
Can you please be a little bit more specific about your problem? Is your notebook too loud for you or is battery running time to short? Why you are not satisfied with this tool? -

How to set image size for importing photos from a digital camera
I'm using Iphoto 6 and am a novice user of my new digital camera. The camera is set to HQ image quality. Initially when I imported photos from the camera into IPhoto, the images were very large (over 1 meg) and produced good quality 4X6 prints. Now when I import photos from the same camera still set to HQ image quality, the photos are very small (less than 100 kb) after being imported into IPhoto. I think I must have changed some kind of setting in IPhoto that affects the size of an imported image, but I can't find where that is or how to change it back so that the size is not changed when imported. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!
IMAC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9) my other computer is a Dell Dimension L500CX running Windows XP ProDave, thanks for clarifying Toad's response for me - I was just too ignorant to connect the dots from his responses. As you said, there were 2 versions - 1 in the original folder and 1 in data; the original folder had the photos that were 1 mb. We must have pulled from that folder previously to print photos not realizing they existed in 2 places. So when we found these thumbnail photos, we just thought they were the real thing. Where can you go to learn about the struction and hierarchy of the photos in terms of what Iphoto does to an image when you import it? Is it in Iphoto help somewhere? Thanks so much for your help with this, and you too Toad for leading me down the path.
If you're getting the size from Finder, I think Old
Toad's question makes a lot of sense. Is the file
you're looking at, somewhere in a folder called
"Data" in iPhoto Library? That 56k sounds about the
right size for a thumbnail.
If you do a search for the image name, both the
actual photo and the small thumbnail are stored with
the same image, e.g. abc.jpg

Help.Looking for a new HD/ mini DV camera that will work with FCP ExpressHD
I just bought a imac with final cut express HD and am looking to buy a new HD/mini DV camera for under $900.00 that i will have no problems with my mac.I was looking at the Sony-HDR-HC3 HD mini which i found for $700.00 and that seemed pretty good.Does any one have any suggestions??I would greatly appreciate it.
When you say no problems with your Mac are you aware of the workflow difficulties editing HDV? e.g monitoring via external HD monitor is an expensive option, burning HD DVD's similarly so.
However this cam has an HDMI out to enable you to connect to your HDTV to view your recorded content, so if you can live with monitoring through your computer for editing, this is a decent camera for the $$'s.
A friend of mine has a Sony DCR-HC96 and is pleased with the larg(ish) single CCD, giving improved low light capabilities over other domestic miniDV camcorders.
At around $500, it is a miniDV alternative worthy of consideration, if more suitable for your budget without the HDV editing headaches.
It depends whether you really need/want HDV rather than SD and what your final output requirements are.

Looking for a remote control for powerpoint on ipad2
Using DocumentstoGO on the ipad2, looking for a method to progress powerpoint slide shows
For sharing between iPads, this might be worth a look:
http://www.ideaflight.com/
Cisco has a WebX application for the iPad that says it allows scheduling, hosting, and attending meetings. There is a client for GoToMeeting for iPad, but I believe that you can only attend, not host.

Looking for better playback controls
When I create FLV files for web streaming directly through
Adobe Flash, I
can take advantage of many choices of playback controls, my
favorite one
being the ArcticExternalAll. The downside: RIPing my slide
shows takes
hours.
The newest version of ProShow Producer has greatly improved
Flash export,
allowing me to create high-quality Flash files directly from
it in a
fraction of the time -- minutes instead of hours. Its
downside: Only a
use-it-or-not choice of one playback control, and it's a
lousy one.
I would like to learn more about these playback controls:
- Which file is responsible for designating the controls, the
SWF or the
FLV?
- Can the user swap one control for another?
- Can I take the external ArcticExternalAll.swf and somehow
patch the video
to include the control file?
Any input is appreciated...
Rick A.
Pleasanton CAI misspoke, then, or I was not specific enough. I take AVI
files and import
them into Flash and then publish them as FLVs. That is the
sum total of my
experience using Flash.
However, I am an advanced computer user and a quick study, so
if you were to
point me in the right direction, that is likely all I would
need...

Set up of system for acquiring/processing images from digital camera
Hi all,
I am new to LabVIEW and I need to choose and install a system camera+software able to acquire and process images. I would like to achieve this as painlessly as possible, by choosing the appropriate equipment. I was thinking of buying an industrian camera with GigE interface amongst the list of NI supported cameras.
Once I have that, what software do I need in order to acquire and process images with LabVIEW? Do I need NI-IMAQdx and If I already have NI-IMAQ, do I need to purchase a license for NI-IMAQdx?
What steps are required to install and configure the system? If anyone can give suggestions on how to implement this systemit would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!As Paul suggested the software you need will be the NI Vision Acquisition Software, NI-IMAQ alone will not be sufficient.
Take a look at this tutorial, part one gives a nice bit of background and part two gives you specifics on how to set things up.
Acquiring form GigE Vision Cameras with Vision Acquisition Software - Part I
Acquiring form GigE Vision Cameras with Vision Acquisition Software - Part II

Looking For Passive Volume Control !
i'm having a hard time finding a attenuator to go between my sound card and amp. not intersted in big knob. what i actually want is the nht volume control. simple, low cost, great quality, but they are out till january. can anyone recommend another.
thanks
here is link to one that i want but are out
http://www.nhtpro.com/products/pvc.html<<<GW, i have custom equipment made by Wynn Morro(Avalon founder) that i use as part of a summing mixer along with VP TransAmps, LarsLundal transformers, etc. and various other pro grade components.
i've also designed a number of tube based components (built by R.GilesAudio), such as tube mic-pres, eq's and levellers.
my signal paths are as minimal as possible, with no ic/opamps.
this to me, is real audio.
my DAW/Mac setup is just one very minor part of the rig.
and the one most easily replaced.
everything else is acually appreciating in dollar value year by year, while my DAW/Mac system will only ever go south.
i still much prefer analog/tape based sound to what any DAW can do at the moment. >>>
Sound like you've got a rocking analog setup, which is great. If you ever get a chance to work at Sear Sound in NY, you and Walter Sear would have a field day. But the question was "who makes a decent 6-channel volume control that doesn't cost an arm and a leg", not "does person X have an appreciation of the difference between analog and digital" (which, after 25 years recording, mixing and producing, I do). The SPL unit looks about right to me ($550 is a leg, but not an arm and leg), and I'll probably cop. The DAC's on my 02r analog card kind of take a dump at very low levels (I route through the 02r so I can instantly switch between a 5.1 and stereo/subwoofer setup) and I'd like to be able to run them all the time as close to full code as possible... -
