Looking to buy a graphics card

Sorry I'm very new to buying computer parts!
I bought a desktop about a year ago and I'm not in any way a hardcore gamer but I would like to be able to play simple steam games on here and see that I would need to upgrade my graphics card to do so. Is that something that perhaps the geek squad could help me out with? I see that they can instal it for me but if i were to bring my desktop to them would they be able to help me know which video card is right for me?
Here's the product page for my desktop if that helps: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-110-200-Desktop-PC-series/5399643/document/c04108287/

Hm... if this is what I think it is, you have a desktop with essentially a "laptop" motherboard in a desktop case. The computer doesn't have a dedicated power supply and uses a laptop-style AC adapter to power the computer.
The mothboard generally does not have any PCI or PCI-Express connectors where a video card would go, since you'd need a dedicated power supply to power all of that.
In short, you would be better off purchasing a new computer to upgrade the graphics card as you would need a new motherboard, power supply and video card to upgrade your existing machine.
I would still have your local Geek Squad techs check it out to verify that this is the case and they can make recommendations at that point.  They generally won't charge you just for checking it out since it should be pretty obvious if upgrades are possible or not.
He is pretty much spot on unless there are motherboard revisions. This is the first motherboard I've seen that omits any kind of upgradability. It does look like a laptop motherboard to an extent but resembles a desktop in so many ways.

That model MBP gives you a choice of cards to use – one at a time. it is not designed for them to run in tandem - splitting up the workload.

  • Looking for a better graphic card. Need feedback and suggestion

I'm looking to get a different graphic card but I'm not sure really what to buy,
    These are my computer specs

I was wondering what would be a good graphic card that is a good significant upgrade.  I'm looking for one that has a significant increase over what I have right now, it doesn't necessarily have to be the best out there.

Honestly I wouldn't spend too much trying to upgrade your computer. It has an aging dual core Athlon processor, and only 2GB of RAM. Even with the highest top of the line card, with that CPU/RAM setup, your computer is probably going to struggle to run it.

  • Buying a Graphics Card

    Hello,
I recently bought a HP Pavilion 500-267c and I'm looking for a grphics card I'm looking to play more PC games. The built in Graphics Card is just not cutting it. I asked Intel support and I was told that my PC could support, 1 PCI Express x16 (Gen 3.0) and a power supply requirement of less than 300Watts.
A couple of the games I'm looking to play are DayZ Standalone, Rust, and Crusader Stronghold 2 (Has not come out yet).
    Thanks.

    TMayer, welcome to the forum.
Here is a video card that is recommended to run DayZ Standalone.  If you look at the specs for the card it states that it requires a 400W & 24 amps power supply unit (PSU).  This is very standard for mid-level cards that will work for the games that you want to play.
If you decide to upgrade the PSU, I highly recommend Corsair products.  They are enthusiast quality with a reasonable price.  I suggust at least 600W for the games that you want to play.

  • Can i buy a graphic card in hp all in one pc 20 2314 in which has luma u mother board???

i want to uprage graphic card can i do so??

According to the specifications, the system has an MXM Type A slot and the card needs to be less than 35W (I suspect an even 35W would work as being less than that isn't very common).  It also lists the GT630M as a stock option for the system.  Other Type A cards that meet the power requirements should work as well.
The HP GT630 Type A card is listed here.  It appears to no longer be available from HP.  It looks like it is available from Amazon.  He is the Amazon seller's direct page.  Based on the part number, it can be found on eBay as well.  One thing I have noticed in my search for this particular card is that no one seems to have an image.  I would recommend contacting the seller to verify it is an MXM Type A card needing 35W of power.

Also Do I Need A Power Supply?

    Jumpman,
Please reply after you have measured the existing Power supply.
    Is it a Min ITX (3.2 x 1.7 x 6) or a TFX (3.4 x 2.5 X 7)
Athena Power has just released a news article in Smart Computing that relates to their new product line of power supplies for the Slimline cases.
Just as an example, this card needs a minimum of 400W :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150577
Caution: You can not use a graphics card that the Power Supply does not support (PINOUT and WATTAGE). Slimline power units do not have PCIE power plug(s), as yet. (See Athena if they have any).

  • I am looking for a new graphics card to help with my 1.5GB files in InDesign.

I am getting "Out of memory " indications as my files gets to the maximum number of pages in my magazine. I am guessing that I need a larger capacity graphics card to help during the construction of the magazine. Any thoughts?

I have a Lenovo desktop with win8 and 16GB memory. I have an upgraded graphics card with 2GB memory. I am using CS6. My free drive space is in the 300GB range. I keep all data off line on a 1TB Buffalo drive. I am producing a 52 page color magazine that is filled with graphics and ads (40%). I rarely import graphics files and normally always link them. As I am moving around my file sometimes processing is slow. I have turned off the pre-flight and only use it when I am ready to go to the printer. That helps. I wopuld like to get back to sub-second response time and thought a better performing graphics card would help.

  • Buying A Graphics Card for the first time.

Hey, I have the HP slimeline s3700f desktop computer. I really want to get a graphics card for it because Im into video games. I realize that I need a low profile card due to the low power supply which the system has, but i cannot find a card which is compaitable with the PC.
There is a link to the SPECS for my computer > http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-pavilion-slimline-s3700f/4507-3118_7-33485047.html
Im aware that there is another slimline PC with a NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS graphics card, but I cannot seem to get the card for sale on any site. It has the came 160W power supply as mine, here are the specs > http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01500243&lang=en&cc=u...

Finally, i would not get a video card that requires any extra power connectors.

Before I post my specs; I cannot get a new power supply for a while, I ONLY want to explore gfx card options, I already know my choices will be limited so I would like those few choices to be listed because I'm not entirely sure if I can find the right one to buy, help would be greatly appreciated.

Everything you need to know, I will continue to look around, any suggestions would be great.

As I pointed out on another thread, shopping for something that you don't plan on buying for a while isn't worth while because prices, and models change constantly in the computer parts field.
A good PSU brand : ThermalTake, Corsair, Antec, to name the first three on my mind
    Graphics: PNY, ASUS, Zotac, EVGA
For your case, i'd shoot for a 400-550watt psu, and then hopefully by the time you have enough saved up, shoot for a GTX 430. Solid card, good performance, lower price.

  • Looking for a good graphics card for World of Warcraft

I've been looking around these forums and it seems like the consensus is to go with the ATI HD 4870. I'm more a fan of NVidia, but if it works it works.
I have a first gen mac pro and just want to confirm that the ATI card will work on my machine. Right now I'm still using the stock (6800?) card and WoW doesn't look all that great at it's optimal settings on a 1900x1200 display - I'd like to maximize the settings as much as possible.
I am completely open to any other suggestions though. On the side I do some graphical work with Maya and Photoshop so any new card should certainly help out with those as well.
    Thanks,
    Adam Lawton

To this list I would add:
    Radeon 2600XT
    Nvidia 8800GT EFI32 version
You must purchase the Mac Pro version of these. With the 8800GT, it needs to be the EFI32 version for 2006/07 Mac Pro.
Sadly, neither the 2600 not the 8800 are easily available new. (at a reasonable price) EBay or your local Craigslist (in big city)

  • Looking for recommendation on graphics card for MSI H67MA-E45 board

This board doesnt have an adjacent psi-e slot, so any card that requires that is out right ?
So the HD 5770 is out ?
Any suggestions ,looking for something at least as good as a GTS 250.But not looking to break my budget either.Would like ,but dont need dx 11support
    Thanks for any help .

Some of these cards list as- Required Peripheral / Interface Device- CD-ROM, adjacent PCI slot...
So all that means is it needs the space an extra slot would take up ,not the actual slot ?Thats seems a very confusing way to say that.

  • Looking for a new graphics card for new display

I recently purchased a 24" LCD monitor to increase my screen real estate. I was anticipating using the DVI connection on the monitor, but found out that the connection I have on the PM G4 Dual 1GHz is an ADC connector instead. Presently I'm using it in analog mode which works fine, but in anticipation of Leopard, I was planning on upgrading my video card (GeForce 4 MX, 64MB VRAM) with one that will support CoreImage, as this one doesn't. In addition, this monitor can pivot to 90 degrees in a portrait orientation, and I would like a card that supports this feature as well.
I tried my PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz with its ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 card, and find it supports CoreImage as well as screen rotation--just what I was hoping for. It works like a charm with the new display. I just need to find out what 4x AGP desktop cards support these features. Any suggestions? I appreciate your input.

I am looking to buy a graphics card for my HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC, I would like to have cheap cards. What would you recommend.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
You are rather limited with the 240W power supply.
I would get a used low profile ATI Radeon 2400 HD 256 MB PCIe card on eBay.
This Dell card I posted should work just fine.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-ATI-Radeon-HD-2400PRO-320-5891-/280798788349?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash...
If you want a new low profile card with HDMI out you can check the link below for the Radeon HD 6450. But make sure the card you get comes with the low profile bracket, and read the reviews on some of these cards where they say the VGA pins hamper closing the case.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006662&IsNodeId=1&Description=HD%2064...
If you get a card with HDMI out, it will disable your onboard video, so restart the PC after you load the drivers for the card, go into the BIOS and in the device configuration menu, change the onboard audio setting from disabled to enabled. Save the setting there and again when you exit. Then you will get your onboard audio back and also have HDMI audio if you need it.
