Looking to buy an iphone 5 online

i am looking to buy an iphone 5 of ebay, i have been told once sold the pervious owners somtimes report the phone as lost/stolen and request a new one which leaves the old one blocked. is there anything i can do to prevent them from doing this.
such as calling apple and telling them that there is a new owner, if not, is there any other way.

Don't presume that the iPhone is new and untouched. Packages can easily be resealed. And I would be strongly suspicious of an iPhone 5 purported as being new in the box being resold this soon after the iPhone 5 was released. Nor would the owner calling "someone" to report selling the iPhone to you be any guarantee, if for no other reason than that Apple does not track stolen iPhones, presuming that the seller will indeed call Apple and not some crony.
It could be legitimate, but there is a good chance that you will have problems. Up to you.

With an O2 iPhone contract (which you need to buy an iPhone from O2 unless you go PAYG), you get access to 'The Cloud' and "BTOpenzone" wireless hotspots where ever you are, as part of the monthly contract fee.
You're also free to use any free WiFi hotspots that are available where you are, such as in coffee shops, McDonalds etc.
Where there is no WiFi you connect to the internet via 3G or EDGE over the mobile phone network - also included in the monthly contract fee.

im looking to buy an iphone within the next moth, im an existing att costumer and dont have an upgrade until may of next year. my question , is there anyway i can pay 299 as opposed to 499 for a 16 gig iphone? i feel that by extending my contract for another 2 years i should be entitled to pay the lower price, i mean they are making me pay 200 dollars extra and still extending my contract for another 2 years??? i have a crappy razor at the moment and really want an iphone but i dont want to pay the 499.

Trouble on buying an iphone 4s online. please help!

Today i was going to buy an iphone 4s, unlocked, from the webpage, everything was alright, i was putting my information and so, but when i click order now, (or something like that) it said that my information wasn't valid, it mentioned something about "authorization failed" and "try with a new method" i really can't remember, i tried to bought it with different credit cards, but that didn't work. Whether you could qualify I can't say. And as Lawrence said, even without a contract the plans from the carriers are expensive, so you will need to consider whether you or your mother can afford the monthly ree.

I do not want to open the factory sealed box, the person on my account lives in another city and I wanted to give the phone as a gift still sealed. Ive been getting mix answer on whether you can walk out a store without opening and activating the new iPhone. If they activate this phone in the store then my family member will not have phone service on her phone. Does anyone have any info on this? You can order online and have it shipped sealed and activate it yourself, why can't you pick up a factory sealed phone if you're paying for it through your cell phone account?

I'm looking to buy an iphone 5 16GB from ebay (as cash is a conideration)...new/sealed as I'm worried and intend to use with a new giff-gaff simcard as I don't want to be locekd into a contract. There appear to be lots of "unlocked" phones in descriptions but I'm a bit confused how a new/sealed phone can be unlocekd and what dangers I could face in buying these online (ie.what might be jailbreaked and what the consequences might be)...as you can see I'm a bit of a novice so a jargon-buster or quick "things to look out for" guide would be brilliant...

The only way to verify that a phone is indeed unlocked and not jailbroken is to contact the carrier/Apple to verify the phone. If you're paranoid about buying it on Ebay try a local service to have the device unlocked so you can go meet the person in the flesh and call up Apple/Carrier to confirm that the device is unlocked

Is buying an iPhone 3GS worth it in 2012?

I'd agree with xtrmecarbon, your best taking all the above into concideration.
But then you've also got to ask yourself, on 02 for example: (Pay As You Go) iPhone 3GS your looking at £319 for the iPhone itself. From here you could go for a "Pay Monthly Sim" with 02.
If you go for a "12 Month SIM" your find your "Pay Monthly Sim" will cost roughly half the price than "Paying Monthly", as your an O2 Customer for an entire year. so for example i was paying £27 a month, i'm now only paying £15 because i'm with O2 for a year. obviously theirs extra charges if you go over your contract usage, same as all phone contracts.
This would cost you in total: £499 (Including iPhone 3GS, Black, 8GB) if you didn't go over your usage for £15 a month for example, now you could properly say for sure the iPhone 3GS will be around for another year at least, obviously were not 100% certain on that.
Question you've got to ask yourself would you rather save an extra £300 roughly, I'd suggest buying the handset on it's own, and doing a sim only deals, will work out cheaper in the long run..

MacBook Pro/iPhone 4S user looking to buy NEW iPad - what size?

I know, I know....this get's asked a zillion times, and many of the answers are the same - "Depends on what you want to do", etc. However, none of what I searched seem to answer MY question, so here goes:
I am looking to buy a new iPad before the end of this week for business purposes mainly. Particularly so I don't have to travel with my MacBook Pro. I also currently have an iPhone 4S. It's a 32GB model and has a little over 10GB of free space. I have an extensive photo (11,000 pictures) and good size music collection (40GB) as well, but as you can tell by the phone usage, I'm not one to carry everything with me. Now, here's where I haven't found an answer to my questions.....since I use iCloud for photos and music (with iTunes Match) as well as starting to use it (along with Dropbox and Evernote) for documents, why would I want anything more than a 16GB (or possibly 32GB) iPad? This leads to another question, would I be wiser to buy the 64GB iPad, then when upgrading to the new iPhone (5 or new or whatever they will call it), get a smaller capacity version of that? I'm only looking for a wi-fi iPad, as I can use my iPhone as a personal hotspot.

As you have suggested yourself, there really isn't a correct answer to the question other than "what would serve your needs".
If you are using cloud services, and iTunes match, you could very well get by with a 16gb. However, you might want to consider how much time you might spend when getting online would be difficult (in the air traveling for example), and what you would want available during those times. My original iPad was a 16GB, and it served me well, but I did opt for 32GB when I upgraded to the New iPad. I don't regret the decision since it gives me more flexibility. BTW, I do use cloud services, including iTunes Match (currently just shy of 17,000 tracks loaded), extensively.
