I am looking to buy the ipod nano 2gb as a gift, could someone tell me if everthing i need to get started is in the box or do i need to purchase seperate accessories

So long at you friend or relative has a Mac or PC that meets the minimum specs then everything you need is in the box. However there are a couple of accessories you should consider:
Case - although Apple include a slim case it's the most basic-of-basic types. Personally when I gave a Nano as a gift I went out and let my wife choose the case herself - there are thousands of designs each with a different style, colour or function. Nanos do scratch easily if they aren't in a case! The choice of case really depends on when the iPod is going to be used.
Mains adaptor. Sometimes it's just not convienient to get to your computer to charge rhe iPod. Also mains adaptors are essential when you go on holiday. We have the Gear4 World Tour V2 which is cheaper than Apple's model and offers a greater functionality.
The bottom line is that everything you need is included. There are literally thousands of accessories. I'd just let whoever is receiving your very generous gift choose which accessories they might need.

Long Story
I really needed a nice watch, I haven't had one in a while. They are very convenient, and I would have to pull out my phone every two minutes...literally. I decided the nano was my solution. It looks really nice with a wrist band, and it is digital/analog same time. It is also more than just a watch..after extensive searching on the web in general, I noticed I couldn't find a new 6G nano. Not on the apple website, amazon, or any other major retailers. I really want to be able to buy a nano, it's probably one of the coolest watch type ipod on the market, and a teacher won't take it away in class, because I have the excuse of it being a watch.

Keep in mind the watch face will not stay on, you will have to press on the sleep button when the screen goes out after a minute.

Sorry Moncorge. To buy from the Apple Store US, you need an American billing and shipping address. You can only buy the nano from the French Apple Store
I can why you would want to buy it. It works out much cheaper, and i wanted to get it from the US store aswell, but i had to get it from the UK store.

Looking to Buy iPod touch or Classic

I am thinking of buying an iPod, either a Touch or Classic. But the specs call for a USB 2.0 port. I have an eMac (see specs below). Would I be able to buy a current generation iPod with the type of USB I have? When I called the Apple Store they told me it was not compatible with my computer and I would need to buy a new computer with a 2.0 USB. Is this true? Any suggestions?

In the end it depends on your needs. Go to the shop and try the touch. If you don't get the "wow" then perhaps go for the classic this time.

Really doesn't matter what you buy as they are already obsolete when they hit the market. This is due to the fact that the R&D folks are always working on newer technology. If they made them to where they would last longer than 3 - 5 years, then they would stand to lose money because you wouldn't be spending the cash to get new technology. It's the same reason the auto makers do not produce durable cars that last. So, what you have to ask yourself is how much you would be willing to spend every 3 - 5 years on a music playback device.

hi uhm yea i dont like it how u only can buy acessories for the new ipod nano's and now nothing for the original ipod acessories and just to let u know apple ur cord to hook up the ipod to the computer are way over price i can get one for $5.00 and uhm yea thats all i wanted to say

You can still buy iPod Nano 1G accesories (Go to Apple Store > iPod Accessories > Previous Models > iPod Nano ). Of course the vast majority of accesories will work on both 1G and 2G Nanos. There is just half a millimetre difference in thickness of the Nano and the dock connector/ headphones are nearly in the same place it's only a few cases that won't work.
Yes you can buy cheaper products elsewhere. However, my experience of Apple gear over the last 15 years is that it lasts longer and performs better.

Ok, before I work my butt of to get one, I want to ask. Does the nano break easily?(Drop on ground,dents,
scratches ect.) And how strong is it, can someone break it just by bending it? Also, what is the best cheap case?

IPod Nano or wait?

I'm looking for buy my first iPod.
I love the look of the iPod Nano.
But I have heard rumors of new iPod coming out soon.
Has anyone else heard about this?
Is it worth waiting for the new models to release?

I have a varity of ipods, all are great in different ways. You choice would depend on what your using it for example:
1. Ipod nano's come in 1 GB (240 songs), 2 GB (500 gongs), and 4 GB (1000 songs). They are also compatible with photos.
2. You can not use video with the ipod nano as apple does not support this.
3. The ipod nano is a flashed based memory which means it doesnt have a hardrive like other ipods and is less likely to "skip" during movement (great for going to the gym). It is like the shuffle for its flashed based memory, but better yet has a screen.
4. Nano's are sleek, light and like other post an fit virtualy anywheres.
inconclusion i have a 5th generation ipod (video) and its really too much for me (given as a gift). The nano is great, i load the songs and then i go.
PS- I live on a farm and my nano has encountered several beatings with some cows, so their pretty stable.
Think over it, you'll find the one that is right for you.

How to get album art on your iPod nano. Read this.

I have had problems getting artowrk on my nano from my computer but it was only because I didnt have USB 2.0 outlets on my computer. I used a different computer that had USB 2.0 and it worked fine. Just click the little button under your sources in iTunes that says "Show or hide song artwork and video viewer" so it opens and then drag the picture you want into that and it will go on your iPod nano artwork. Remember to have the artwork for your nano enabled though. To get it enabled just click the little icon on the bottom right of iTunes that looks like a iPod nano and click the music tab and then make sure the "Enable artowkr for your iPod nano" box is checked. If you have any other questions just comment this.

I have 2.0 USB on my laptop and pc and it still does not work. Just ot really worried about artwork ecause I don't look at it while it is playing.......
