Looking To Change the Defaults for Placing Options Indesign CS5

I have just started using CS5 and have a question.
Right now when I go to place a PDF into Indesign the program always defaults to crop or image. I would like that to default to media. We place dozens of PDFs and waste time selecting options and then changing it to media.
Is there something in preferences that I can do to make this happen?

Is this because of the way the PDF was created?

When you change the crop options when you import a PDF you set the default. Hold shift when you click OK to place and you’ll be prompted for the import options. Set them and they will become the new default.

Make sure that the system time and date on your computer are set correctly.

Can I change the default for podcast deletion after listening?

I have only just discovered that many of my cherished podcasts have been getting deleted after I listen to them. I originally set the option to NEVER delete after listening when I first installed iTunes years ago and I haven't change it since. However, I can only assume that it was changed by Apple during an upgrade at some point and I never noticed. The delete after listening option has been set to On for podcasts going back many years (2008 at least).
Two questions:
1. Is there some way to change the default setting to Off?
2. Is there a way to bulk change the setting for multiple existing podcasts?

I don't think you can - there's nothing in the documentation indicating how you can change the default. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a configuration file somewhere that contained an assembly name template, but altering it (assuming it exists) would certainly be at your own risk.
You could always open an OSS note against BC-CTS-CMS and ask.

The default when I start up Indesign is “only the applications bar is showing”. I would like to be able to change the default to having the Tools and Control showing as well as a few windows like pages, styles, swatches, hyperlinks – not ALL of the windows. I’ve tried setting this up when I first open up Indesign and no documents open. But it still changes back to the default whrn I reopen Indesign. Is there anyway to change this?

launch indesign--open and position the panels you want--then go to the workspace menu and save your workspace--then, when you launch Indesign it will appear like your saved workspace

How can I change the default for interlacing on FCEHD 4?

For some reason, when I import video into a project it puts interlacing on it.
Where is the default and how can I change it so that it is NOT interlaced when I import it?
This is quicktime video 720x480 standard that was not interlaced before the import.
I tried putting a de-interlacing filter on it and it was way too soft. I played around with all the other choices ie: all the flicker filters, upper odd and lower even and did not get satisfying results. It was also very frustrating because I had to put the filter on every shot.

Here is the source video: It is 640x480 I do not see any lines. If there is interlacing it is not very visible.

This is the final outcome, but unfortunately on this screen, you can't see the lines.
There is a very distinct difference between the source video and the exported video.
The exported video is full of lines and looks like it's interlaced.

Can I change the default "Save As" options?

When I have finished a document and press "Save As" the defalt is the Template name and the Folder is "My Templates" so i often end up saving a document as a template - very annoying? Is there anyway I can change the setting so that the default folder is a document folder not a template Folder?

You have at one point told Pages to save to My templates. You can alway redirect where to you want to save a document.
After clicked on Save as... you should get a new window similar to mine under here. You can then find where you want to save your document. You can create a new folder if needed.

Change the shortcut for larger brush size (CS5)

Does anyone now how to change the standard shortcut ("[" or "]") in Photoshop CS 5 to increase or decrease the size of the brush? The langauage and keyboard setting make it impossible to use it (French Keyboard, Dutch Language, I know it's a bit exotic, but that's the problem)

Edit: I also use a non-english keyboard, so I think some shortcuts are out of my reach (like »Select next layer down/up« or »Move target layer down/up«) or at least I never could find them in the Keyboard Shortcuts-dialog.

Changing the default editing application in InDesign, not Finder

How do I set IDCS3 to open an image or object on the page in a native application besides the one specified in the Finder? In general, I like to view jpgs quickly in Preview, but need to edit in Photoshop.

You don't. It's based on the operating system.
The two step workaround is to choose the link and reveal in Bridge where
you can set JPGs to open in Photoshop.

How do I change the default app for opening a file;

If I right click on a file in finder, it tells me what the default app for opening the file is. it also gives me a short list of other apps.
I would like to change the defaults for several file types, and also delete one app from the short list and add a different one.

You could try this:
- right-click (tap with 2 fingers on the apple trackpad) on a file you want to open in openoffice
- move the cursor over "open with". You should see the default app, then some suggestions, then app store, then at the end, "other...". Select "other..."
- find openoffice in your applications folder and select it (if it is dimmed, change "enable: " from "recommended applications" to "all applications", then you can select "openoffice")
- check "always open with"
- then, click "open". The file will open in openoffice and from now on, openoffice will be the default application to open the type of file you just opened. You should also see the icon of all files of the same type change to the openoffice file icon.
This is supposed to work, but that's not always the case, especially when the default app happens to be an Apple app. If you don't want to use that Apple app, delete it (or move it elsewhere if you want a backup). That can help.

You have to do this with every file that has a different extension. You can't change the default for every file with a different extension in a single operation.

Okay. In the interests of being completely clear:
I have already tried this. Several times. This procedure will change the default for any of the fields that I place by hand. It does not change the default for any of the fields placed by the Wizard. I was unable to find a solution to the problem in any of the manuals, books, or on-line forums, which is why I posted here as a last resort. This leads to two conclusions:
A. Your advice is incorrect
B. There is a problem with my installation of Acrobat
I will assume that A is not the correct conclusion. I will therefore try a re-install of my software to see if this clears up the problem. There have been other issues with other Adobe software on my machine that a re-installed has fixed nicely. Luckily, I don't have to do this at all often.

I print on different including a receipt printer with roll paper.
I had to reset Firefox yesterday because of a bug, and then changed the Printer Properties to be able to print again in the right format on the receipt paper. But now everything I print from Firefox (even when I change the paper size to Letter on the Printer properties for the regular printer) is in the receipt paper format (long and narrow.) When I do Print Preview, I can see that the paper looks like the roll paper, even if I'm trying to print on letter size.
I tried resetting both printers with about:config, I tried changing in the printer properties for both printers and nothing works.

My understanding is that Firefox uses the global printer settings. I am not familiar with the Windows 8 interface, but can you change the printer settings in its Devices and Printers and see if it changes the default for Firefox as well?

Is there any way to set the default for *.doc document so that Pages opens them automatically?

I have a number of Ms Word documents because I used to have Word for Mac before the last OS release. Now, of course, when I double-click on them, I get a message saying that PowerPC isn't supported.
Now Pages will open these files. Is there any way to change the default for *.doc files so that a double-click will open them in Pages?
(Instead of me going to the trouble of finding out where they are actually located on the hard drive so that I can open pages and say - here, open this file--even though you didn't create it--)

Click on a .doc file and type Cmnd I to open Get Info. In the Open with: menu select Pages, then click on Change All…
