Looking to download a Printer Setup Utility?

I have OS 10.3.9 and Classic on my G4 Mac HD. I cannot print OS 9 or OS 10 documents but I can print a sample page from the HP desjet utility folder in the OS 9 Application Folder. HP tells me I am missing part of OS 10. From the Missing Manual, I learn that i am supposed to have a Printer Setup Utility in the Utility Folder of OS 10, but this program is missing.
Can I download this program, and if so, from which site?
Thanks for any help.

George,
I would search for "Printer" in Spotlight. To get there quickly, just use the keyboard command f. If you have moved it somewhere else, you should be able to find it. It's also possible that you may have renamed the program.
If you cannot find it, you can grab a copy from another mac.
Setting up printing in classic (OS9) is usually a separate process. Use "Desktop Printer Utility" to setup your OS9 printing.

  • "Printer Setup Utility" is missing...can I download it somewhere?

I recently "uninstalled" my HP printer's software. (Photosmart C4180) I've been having trouble printing, and have had to reinstall the software twice in the past several months to get it working again. However, now I can't get it to work at all. I've searched my entire hard drive, and there is no "Printer Setup Utility" to be found. I DO recall accessing it earlier, when checking out my Utilities folder. Somehow it has now disappeared. I can't seem to find a site where I can simply re-download another Printer Setup Utility. Anyone have suggestions? I recently had a "mini-stroke," and it's pretty hard for me to focus on an annoying problem like this for very long. Eventually, I may be able to upgrade to OS 10.5- Leopard, but can't afford it now. So meanwhile- I'm stuck with what I have. Thanks! Dan

I don't recall for sure - you may be able to get Printer Setup utility by downloading the 10.4.11 Combo Updater from Apple and re-Updating with that. If not, there is a utility called Pacifist that allows you to reinstall individual files from your Install DVD - get it here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
PS- I love Apple (worked for them a couple of years) - but Leopard (10.5) is beta software. There are more printing problems than with any release since 10.1. Don't go there until they have fixed the problems.

  • Printer setup utility freezes when I try to add drivers

I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX500 all-in-one printer which worked fine until a few weeks ago. My best guess as to why it stopped working is that I let my hard drive fill up and some data got corrupted/overwritten (I've had numerous problems incuding my System Folder becoming 'unblessed' which necessitated a reinstall).
When I tried to print there were no drivers recognized. If I checked in home>library>printers I could find what appeared to be the driver (Stylus Photo RX500) but opening that would bring up a message it wasn't in my list of printers. Trying to add the printer to the list gave the message that the driver wasn't found. In the Finder the driver was listed as 372KB. In my cloned external HD the same file was listed as 408KB. Copying over the larger file to my internal didn't solve the problem.
I went to the Epson site and found a driver which was only listed for OS10.2 and a driver to Intel Macs (I have a G4 PB). I downloaded the 10.2 driver and installed it (408KB). Now when I open the printer setup utility EPSON USB is listed as an option but when I click on that the utility freezes. I've tried restarting and repairing permissions but still no go.
    Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. TIA.

    Ohayo gozaimasu,
I saw what was available on the US site, so went to the Epson UK site, where they show one driver for OSX - PowerPC, for the RX500, it's version 1.9b versus the 1.7 on the US site. The driver is a 7.9mb download. Looking at the other English sites around the world, 1.9b seems to be the lastest OSX PPC driver.
    The link is http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDownload.aspx?lng=en-GB&ID=19449&data=6D58D 013F2B22854B9450E1814C134D338E0C605169D8D398A3275D13F8B5BB5
Perhaps that will work better for you.

  • HP 1610 All-in-one drivers not seen by Printer Setup Utility

Just got this new for christmas. I downloaded the latest software and installed it. It was "successful". Everything with the software and the printer seems to be OK. When I go to add the printer to Printer Setup Utility I see the printer icon with a ? overlayed on the list followed by the printer name, followed by "no drivers installed". The "add" button is grayed out so that the printer can't be added. I can scan with the software I installed, and everything else seems to work except printing. Looks like to me that the problem lies with the PSU. I spent about an hour and a half on the phone with a very helpful HP Tech., but no-go. I repaired permissions, but that didn't help. The unit is seen by the System Profiler. PSU is v.3.0. I am using "Panther" 10.3.5. Sure would like some suggestions... Thanks!

I  did as you suggested but it did not fix the problem. The software seems to be working but the HP device 4620 printer etc will still not connect to the router/network. I am still getting the message wrong password when the correct password is used

Thank you for this information.  Let's try some more steps:
I would like you to restore the defaults on your printer:
    1) Press the Wrench on your printer
    2) Press the Tools menu
    3) Press Restore Defaults and click yes
Once this is complete, I would like you to remove the Officejet 4620 software (If there is any on this computer). Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software. Remove the USB cable out of the computer, if it's already connected. Next, let's clean out your Temp folder on your computer:
    1) On the keyboard, hit the Windows key and "R" key together, then type %temp% and click enter.
    2) Press Ctrl and A together (This will highlight everything)
    3) Right click with your mouse and select delete
Now, perform a clean boot on your computer by following this Microsoft document here. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Try installing the software from the HP website here. Choose your correct operating system; Either 32 or 64 bit. Do not connect the USB cord into the computer until prompted.
    Please post your results again!

  • Locating my printer setup utility

I dont seem to have a printer setup utility how do i get one to add my new printer to?
did it go the way of my virex when i loaded leopard? cause im getting this error msg to list the new printer in the setup utility and my search provides no printer setup utility. is there a way to get this as a download?

Yes ... here is a list of what I have done:
loaded the driver from supplied disk for printer lexmark x5470
followed directions of error msg and looked for the printer setup utility ... could not find
    called lexmark (2ce)
1st time said I needed to down load the driver from their web site, which I did ... no resolution
2nd time they said I needed aforementioned utility and for me to contact Mac
(Mac has no phone support available for me or live online support so here I am at the discussion
    boards)
reloaded Leopard ... still did not get a file called printer setup utility ... printer worked briefly and
then back to receiving error message. mainly from printing attempts from the web (only file I
could print from HD was a .tif file. all other .doc or .rtf would not print.)
opened disc utility and verified disc permissions ... some errors related to lexmark then repaired
tried moving the downloaded patch from lexmark around to applications and then to the lexmark
folder its self but nothing seemed to help
Is there not a Mac tech out there that could help?

  • Printer Setup Utility Crashing on Launch. Please Help!

    Hi all,
I am trying to set up my sister's iBook to print on my home network. I'm using a fuji xerox docuprint C525A and my first step was to obtain the latest drivers from fuji xerox.
However when I go to add the printer in printer setup utility the program unexpectedly quits. Obviously this is making it pretty much impossible to add the printer.
The iBook is running 10.3.9 so far the only step I've taken to try and fix the problem has been to repair disk permissions. This unfortunatey hasn't helped.
I would greatly appreciate any advice for further troubleshooting.
    Thanks
    -Tim

    Hi Tim,
I don't see any obvious problem with the results that you have shown. The logical links look okay and the PrintCore program is present and has the about the right size. Nevertheless, the results that you obtained a few days ago suggest that there is a problem somewhere in the PrintCore.framework. I would suggest that you replace this framework and see if Printer Setup Utility works correctly.
If you want to do that, I think the safest thing to do is to get the most current version of the framework and you can do that by loading it from the OS X 10.3.9 combo update. Here are the basic steps to follow:
    - You will need to install an app called Pacifist.
    - You will also need to download Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9. After you download this update, open its disk image and extract the .pkg file to your desktop.
    - Start Pacifist and then use it to open the .pkg file from the combo update.
    - Use the Search command in Pacifist to search for PrintCore.framework (use lower and upper case as shown). After Pacifist finds and highlights this framework, click the Install button.
That should do it. The framework on your computer will be replaced with framework from the combo update. I hope that this fixes your problem.

  • No Printer Setup Utility

Somehow I've accidentally deleted, or otherwise lost the printer setup utility that should be in my utilities folder. There is a file called Printer Setup Utility in the Utilities folder, but it's only 650KB, which tells me that's not it. There's also a strange icon representing it (two pieces of paper, a paintbrush, a pen [looks like an Appleworks icon or something]). Basically, I have no print center. Is there away of reinstalling this application without having to reinstall Tiger completely? I've reinstalled the printer drivers with the custom install option, but I can't figure out a way to install the actually printer setup utility application. Any help would be great.

I think this will do the trick:
    Restoring Lost OS X Files
If you erase or otherwise "lose" an OS X system application or utility (such as Mail or Disk Utility, for example) you can restore them without having to reinstall OS X.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Read the documentation. Use Pacifist to extract a fresh copy of the missing application from the file archives on your OS X Installer disc. The file archives are usually found on the installer disc in the /System/Installations/ folder.
After restoring the application you need to reinstall the OS X Combo Updater for the version of OS X you currently have installed. This assures the new copy of the application is updated to the current version.
Lastly, it's a good idea to repair permissions.

  • Why doesn't the HP printer show up in the printer setup utility?

Can't understand why the HP2100 TN laserjet printer that is networked(ethernet) via a Snow basestation does not automatically show up in my list of printers. I also downloaded HP's drivers for it.
My boyfriend's Powerbook running 10.3 is able to automatically see it, and it showed up as "shared" on my computer when his laptop is up and running. I tried Appletalk etc. He got it running using IP printing and having the IP address, but he told me it should have just showed up.
I'm new to the Mac so I don't understand this. According to the config page he printed Appletalk is active on the printer its selected on my networking page.
    Any help apprciated.

  • HP Laserjet 6p is not recognized in Printer Setup Utility

I bought recently used HP Laserjet 6p printer and connected my PB to it's Apple Talk port via AsanteTalk Box. After I installed the HP 6p printer driver (downloaded from the HP site) I've tried several times to find the printer in the Printer Setup Utility but it doesn't appear on it! I've even downloaded a printer driver for MacOS 9 and tried to print in Classic environment but can't find any HP printer in the Chooser. Is there any solution for this problem?
I'll be very thankful for any suggestions.

Apple included the Gimp-Print driver "HP Laserjet 6 Series" for that printer. Does that show up?

  • Epson 4800 Ethernet IPP Network Cant Add PRINTER SETUP UTILITY

    Greetings!
    Any known issues?
    Does anyone have this working??
I am having a time TRYING to ADD a new Epson 4800 printer, Epson Ethernet card onto new Mactel laptop and new quad G5 (both 10.4.7).
Epson NetConfig Utility sees the printer and set an IPP address.
However, Apple PRINTER SETUP UTILITY Add IP printer isn't working.
I had qualified Epson support taking me through the steps...he said some issues with the Intel books, but that doesn't explain why the G5 isn't working.
Three hours yesterday and I'm back on it later today...any tips/info appreciated.

    Hi all,
I recently bought an Epson Stylus DX4850 and I'll be damed if I get the thing installed on my Intel based Mac! This is driving me mad, I've been told that it is compatable. I've downloaded all the drivers from the Epson website but when I go to add the printer it's not listed. Does this mean that I need to use a different driver or gimp driver?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and would prevent me from going insane!

  • CAN'T GET PRINTER TO ADD IN PRINTER SETUP UTILITY

I've recently purchased a Epson DX4850 printer for use on a Mac using 10.3.9. I installed without problem and it worked fine for first 4 days. Then the driver seemed to disappear. I tried to readd through printer setup utility but it came up with message "SERVER ERROR SERVICE UNAVAILABLE". I tried reinstalling, redownloading driver from Epson website, deleting prefernces and reinstalling but it wouldn't work.
I don't get the message anymore but when I try to add printer it says its found printer driver do I want to refresh the screen but then when I click ok nothing happens.
Under Epson USB it's blank and under USB it has Stylus driver with a ? and not installed.
I've had the printer checked and that works fine.
    CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP ?

Sorry Hirsty I can't help but just to go on the list that I"m having similiar problems with my Canon ip4200. I'm running 10.3.7 and can't even find the drivers even though I've installed them from the disc and then from a download. Still won't show up.

  • Printer Setup Utility will not allow new driver to be added

I just bought a Canon Pixma MP960, installed the drivers and then downloaded the driver from their website. When I go to add a new driver in Printer Setup Utility--i highlight the MP960 connected thru USB, but the 'add' feature is not lit up. When i have it search for new drivers, it detects a new driver, but when I hit 'add'--Printer Setup Utility "unexpectedly quits" every time. The only drivers in there are beta thingies that do not work w/ my printer.
The Canon tech guy says that there is a problem with my Printer Setup Utility--but i can't seem to find a solution online. I don't know much about macs, but can I update the Printer Utility program or something? help!

Part of the problem might be if you actually have more than one version of the driver for the printer installed on the computer. Check the drivers at Mac OS X disk/Library/Printers/Canon/ and make sure there is only one plugin for the printer. If you have more than one, trash both and download and install only the driver from Canon that is compatible for Mac OS X 10.4.x. After you install the driver, run Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. If you have only one correct printer driver plugin installed, it should work.

  • C6180 does not appear in my list of printers in Printer setup utility (mac OS X 10.4.11)

My C6180 was printing slowly so I followed the steps in the forum (unplugging, holding down the buttons, etc. ... • Print Center / Printer Setup Utility missing

My refurb iMac had its entire logic board replaced several weeks ago. Since then I have not been able to use my Epson Stylus Photo R280 printer. Turns out that somehow my utilities called Print Center and also Printer Setup Utility have disappeared from my computer. Because it is a holiday, I am unable to to contact Apple Care by phone. I tried to locate a place on my Leopard install disk where it lists zillions of single items which I could chose to install, but can not find it. I am hoping that someone in here can direct me where to look. My Brother HL 2140 is working fine. I'm stumped.
    Holly

Got a reply from Epson. Even though I originally told them the printer was hooked up to a wireless Airport Extreme Base Station, they seemed to ignore that fact. But, finally they came up with this excuse:
    Response (Stephan R) 08/21/2008 11:19 AM
The Epson Status Monitor requires constant bidirectional communication with the Host for it to function properly. The Airport Extreme only allows a one way communication, so when the Epson Status Monitor tries to update the Host with the proper ink levels you will receive a communication error.
So, I guess that you can't use the print utility from a wireless connection, I hooked the printer to one of my Macs and added the printer to the Utility there. The utility works there, but I have to reconnect the printer to the Airport Extreme and visa versa to make they whole thing functional. Oh, well.

  • Printer Setup Utility missing

I just installed Tiger on a G4 1.42 dual Power Mac w/ 1.5 gigs RAM and then updated it to 10.4 via software update and went to setup my Epson Stylus Photo 2200 and noticed that my Printer Setup Utility is missing.
    Yikes.
I just downloaded the latest driver from Epson -- and now it shows up as a beta even though it is dated from 2004.
I had a friend send me a copy of Printer Setup Utility from his Tiger 10.4 and it works, but to a point .... It does not correctly name my printer and will not finish any job I send to it.
    How can I fix this?

I suggest you reinstall OS X.
