Looking to run autodesk inventor on a new mac pro* will it work?

Looking to run autodesk inventor on a new mac pro* using boot camp and windows.
Will it work or am I waiting my time?

As an alternative, though not an ideal FCS box, the Intel iMacs should be fine, and should fit into the same budget range as the MacBooks.
For serious FCP work, I wouldn't recommend an iMac, but for the purposes you've outlined, it should be acceptable, for the most part.
EDIT: My comment above is in reply to your comment about school purchases, not your original post about carrying around two laptops.

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

We've used the 400 to 800 firewire cables with limited success in the past...dropped frames was the main problem. Only used them until the Sonnet FireWire PCIe Card came in to allow a 400 firewire.

  • Just bought new Mac Pro, will I be able to install my PPC apps?

    Hello,
Just ordered a new Mac Pro Dual 2.0 online today. After reading a lot of posts on here, I'm wondering if I made the right decision and should have bought a Dual G5 Quad instead. Will my PPC apps install at all on the new Mac and will they run? I do a lot of audio work and I'm already noticing that there is a pretty long wait with the UB updates. Not really looking forward toward the hassle of updating everything all over again...Do you think the MP was a better investment than a refurbished G5 Quad? I assume I'll be able to install Logic Pro from my 7.0 DVD's and then upgrade to 7.2 or does it not work this way? I'm hoping that the upgrade to Logic 7.2 is not a paid upgrade. Since I just bought online yesterday, do you think they'd let me cancel before shipping?

PPC applications will run on Intel Macs through the Rosetta emulator. You will see a speed hit, however. Rosetta runs about 30 percent slower than native apps due to the emulation hit. The exception will be Java applications. Java applications that use the JNI libraries need to be converted to universal binaries in order to run on an Intel Mac. The other exception will be applications that require plug-ins and/or startupitems or install special frameworks. These will need to be universal binaries or they simply won't work on an Intel Mac.
If possible you will want to upgrade your PPC apps to their universal binary versions if such versions are available.
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • New Mac Pro not really working

I just got my new Mac Pro in and I'm having some problems. I've had to do a hard reboot 3 times over the last 4 days, I get the SBBOD very frequently, and Spotlight doesn't seem to be working.
My biggest issue with spotlight now is I can't get one of my internal drives to index. It's a 500 gb seagate drive that I took out of a G5 and put right into my MP. Is that a problem? I know I can't take a startup disk from a PPC machine to an Intel machine but this is just for storage. I've downloaded Spotless and deleted all my spotlight folders and started from scratch. I indexed one drive at a time and found this one drive always hangs. I've let it run overnight now twice and it never finishes. I came in this morning and it still says indexing (won't allow me to search) and it says it has -2147483648 hours remaining and the status bar is actually showing less progress then when I left it last night, which sounds weird but I'm sure of it. Any ideas?

Have you booted from a good backup system you can use for emergencies and tried repairing your drive? If you don't have Disk Warrior (or something more than just Apple First Aid) I would.
In trying to salvage files I usually try to trash the most recent stuff added that are just temp or not needed, and delete what I have safely copied over.
Think of peeling an onion. Undo each layer. Repair the directory.
Disk Warrior has Rebuild directory, and if you hold down OPTION when you click on rebuild, it offers you choice to scavenge a drive that is more severely corrupt.
When it freezes, be sure to do a Safe Boot and insure you aren't creating new directory problems on your alternate drive. And don't boot or use your problem drive. Which is why you always want to have a FW or alternate boot drive. And if you don't, then install just OS X plus updates on it first so you do.

  • Prepare the drool cloths! New Mac Pro will make Aperture SCREEEAAAAMMMM!!!

    Shipping TODAY
    New Mac Pro
1.6 -2.1 faster than current PPC Quad
    2.6 Ghz dual DuoCore
    256 MB ram
    Superdrive
    $2499
    All quad, up to 3ghz
    Up to 16 GB memory
Up to 2 TB SATA internal storage with FOUR internal drive bays
    4 PCI Express slots
Graphics up to radeon x1900 or FX4500
    HOLY SMOKES!!!

    Looks like a nice machine.
Bit dissapointed with the graphics options though - in the PC world you can get dual on one card Nvidia 7950GX2 cards which would absolutely destroy anything you can get for this machine.
I wonder if you could just buy a Radeon 1900XTX card and pop it in, if it would use the same drivers as the XT card.
On the memory front does anyone know if it NEEDS ECC RAM? ECC ram is hideously expensive and I'd really want 4gb for aperture.
CPU looks great and is actually very well priced, the Xeon's are very expensive chips.
notice also the tech specs for the screens have increased, and prices dropped.

  • New Mac Pro Won't Work With Old Studio Display

    Hi,
Just got a new Mac Pro Desktop 8-core only to find out my old Apple Studio Display 17" won't work without a $100 adapter. We're thinking of just buying a new monitor instead. My question is will other brands now work direclty with the new Macs - or would they also need adapters? Is a DVI port the same as a DVI-D port?
    Thanks for any info...

Thanks so much for the response, Malcolm, I really appreciate it! My old monitor is an LCD, but what we decided to do is since the adapter we found (and HAD to get from Apple directly) was going to cost $99!! We went and bought a brand new Dell monitor instead for $238 - it's fully compatible with the new Mac, and it's 23" (my old one was a 17") - so all's good!
    Thanks again,
    Jacki

  • New Mac Pro: Will I need to toss out my esata RAID systems?

Can't wait to buy the new MacPro.  However, I have 3 RAID systems, hooked up to ESATA RAID controllers.  Will I be able to use these with the new mac pro?  is there like a thunderbolt-estata raid converter?

  • Can i run Photoshop CS5.1on a new Mac Pro?

My question is basically can older versions of software run on the newest Mac Pro computers?

Adobe CS2 is not Free Software you need a licence to run it legally
    System Requirements for Photoshop CS2
    by Shea Laverty, Demand Media
While Adobe Photoshop CS2 was released in May 2005, its age may make it an appealing target to businesses -- as of the date of publication, CS2 is still an adequate product for most basic business needs and may be available second-hand for considerably less than the price of purchasing the latest version. Because there are few modern computer systems incapable of running this system, prospective owners should check their system against the minimum requirements before purchase and installation.
    Processor
Windows users looking to install Photoshop CS2 will need at least an Intel Xeon, Xeon Dual, Centrino, Pentium III, Pentium 4 or comparable CPU in order to run the program. Mac users will need at least a G3, G4 or G5 PowerPC processor.

  • FCP 4.5 won't run after tranfering it to new Mac Pro

    Hi.
Bought a Mac Pro from the apple centre. Used firewire to transfer all files and programs to the new machine.
When trying to launch FCP the program says required hardware not found and that's that.
    So, any ideas?

    #29: Need AGP Graphics card
    Shane's Stock Answer #29
    You either need to either:
    1) use the following hack -
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
    or
    2) Upgrade to FCP 5.1
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302667
IF you get 4.5 working, it won't work as fast as you are used to. Best to upgrade...the Crossgrade was designed to work on this system, and the older macs. And in the future, always install apps from original disks, never copy them over.

  • Looking to buy a new mac pro will there be a i7 version?

I have an iMac 24" and looking to get a mac Pro as my needs have changed.
I have compared an iMac and 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor ( two (friends) side by side and I have to say there is nothing in it, my initial thoughts were the Imac has better graphics and seems faster using Photoshop and final cut.
Does anyone know if they will make a i7 version (non xeon) and if the price will drop as the Mac pro seems to be so very expensive since the introduction of the i7 Imac in the region of £800 I'd say.

    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro
No, Mac Pro = Xeon, and there is quad 3.3GHz BTO $1200 extra.
You were looking at 2009 Mac Pro? sounds like 2006-7 model possibly.
Whether you need more hard drives and memory then an iMac Core i5 is up to you.

  • Current Gen 2 iPod Touch on new Macbook Pro - will restore work?

I backed up my ipod touch on the new macbook pro computer (right clicked on my ipod on the left nav in iTunes).
I want to (1) update my ipod touch from 3.1.2 to the new 4.2 OS and (2) use my new macbook pro from this point forward.
My question, if I do a restore and select the backup, will all my apps (and app data), safari bookmarks and all info on my ipod touch be restored properly? I am scared that I will lose all my information.
I previously synced my ipod touch on the older powerbook.
Anyways, your advice is greatly appreciated!!

My ipod touch was initially "connected" with the powerbook. When I did a sync on the powerbook (old computer), a bakup was created. In iTunes, I was able to see a list of my apps on the left column (sync apps) next to the right column, that showed what was on the ipod touch.
On the new computer, macbook pro, after I backup the ipod touch via right clicking the ipod touch on the left left pane.... I do not see my apps show under the sync apps column.
When I check the box to sync apps, under the apps section, i get a message saying, "Are you sure you want to syn apps? All existing apps and their data on the ipod touch will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library". From the looks of it, none of my apps added onto the library of the macbook pro, as the left column, sync apps, is empty.
I noticed too, when i backed up the ipod touch on the powerbook, i saw my apps on the status pane show... and eventually show up on the sync apps column on the left. During the backup to the macbook pro, I didn't see that happen.
Backstory: I got the ipod touch as a present, started using it through my powerbook. I haven't updated it much on the powerbook for a long long time. I got more apps, added bookmarks and used the ipod touch frequently, without really attaching it to the powerbook. Only maybe one time last year to upgrade to 3.1.2 os. Around that time, powerbook was super super slow and having problems.
Sometime spring/summer last year, I got a new powerbook and haven't had a chance to connect the ipod touch to it until now. I had trouble syncing/transferring my ical, iphotos and itunes (between the powerbook and macbook pro)... but eventually added what I needed for the most part, without adding older stuff i didn't need anymore - pretty much manually. i lived with not having my playlist on itunes and redoing my events in ical. luckily, i have a iphoto library manager, so my photos albums are intact the way i'm comfortable managing them.
anyways, i want to update the ipod touch to the latest os 4.something. and start using this macbook pro as the go to computer, as i won't be touching the powerbook much.
I care more for the apps and the apps' data, ipod touch safari bookmarks... photos and music i can redo again, as both are different between the powerbook and macbook pro anyways.
the macbook pro is authorized, as with the older powerbook.
i think the reason apps don't bakup inot the macbook pro, is because it's somehow still associated to the powerbook. the contents on the ipod touch are more current than what is on the macbook pro, as regards to apps and apps info and bookmarks.
    Help! Please.

  • 2013 new Mac Pro will not boot up from and external hard drive

New 2013 MAC PRO running Yosemite will not not see a bootable external hard drive when starting up using option key?  Same External hard drive will boot up on 2013 Mac Book Pro running Yosemite.

Reading between tea leaves sometimes leaves some things to imagination.
You used SuperDuper latest version that was recently upgraded for Yosemite on a laptop running 10.10 (or even 10.9.3+) that is in a X-brand USB3 drive enclosure, not bus powered btw, moved it to the nMP and plugged it into a direct port, not going through a hub (monitors have hubs of course and there is only one real bus+controller on the nMP that ALL USB3 travels through.
Thunderbolt and self-powered would be nice but they cost a bit more.
I have read where Carbon Copy Cloner (now v 4.x) worked where others failed. I use to use both but have used CCC since its inception and use back in 10.2.2 forward along with SD! for a few years based on comments here.
Drivers missing? someone compared system extensions and found the ones needed for say the nMP are not there? how about running a 10.10.1 combo update and see if that changes - we USE to be able to apply updates to a system that we were not booted from, very handy (could update a sparse disk image of a system that way, one created with CCC).
WD Passports seem popular with laptop users, but they come here to this forum complaining that it doesn't work, disappears off the bus (spins down goes to sleep, acts like a green drive acts).
