Looking to segment my children's iPod touch from my work iPhone 4 but still under my account.  Any ideas?

I have an iPhone 4 and one account for the family.   I receive my children's text messagesto and from their friends on my work phone that start on their iPod Touch's.   I don't want them to have their own accounts at their age b/c I want all purchases to roll up under my account without seeing their texts.
We run the family account of a 6 month old iMac (not sure MAC OS version).
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Go to settings, store, click on apple ID, sign out and sign back in with your ID.  You can put her music into your account.  That is illegal.

  • Ipod touch 2nd generation (works fine), but will not shut off

my ipod touch 2nd gneration works fine, but it will not shut off.  This use to work:  I would hold down both top and face button for about 10 seconds and it would shut down. Now nothing happens no matter how long I hold those 2 buttons down.  Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

I bought an ipod touch from someone on craigslist, but  he never gave his password to me, and I can't get back into contact with him, so I can't connect it to itunes to restore it, he had the box for the device, so he was legit, so what do I do?

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod via iTunes on the computer. For recovery mode see:

  • I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation 8gb which is still under warranty until December. I have alot of content on it and i have less then 1 gb left. Is it possible if i can give my iPod to Apple and get a 32 gb model and pay a little extra?

I bought an iPod Touch from a friend with warranty. I mainly use it for games and videos but it takes up to much space. Is it possible if i give my iPod to Apple and pay a little extra, would i be able to recieve a 32gb model of the same generation?

No, Apple does not take back used devices, you'll have to sell it by yourself and buy a new ipod after you have sold your old one.

  • Where can i get an ipod touch holder for working out but not an armband looking more towards waistline

im not looking for an armband due to fact that they dont fit my arms so im looking for something that i can put/clip on my sweats waist line to hold ipod touch. if i cant find anything then i suppose i can resort to wireless headphones/buds

Venom, I use a Griffin Survivor it's a full case, Note; it is waterproof not watertight-- drop it in the pond and your iPod will get wet. Overall works very well, have knocked the "stuffing" out of it, so far it has protected my iPod 5 from falls, drops (that should have broken the screen more than one time), a 6 year old, rain and snow. Also does a great job of keeping dust, dirt, sweat off the iPod. The belt clip locks shut, or can be opened to clip onto waist band or pocket opening. Fairly heavy spring keeps it in place. An added function the clip can be locked full open and it acts as a stand like a picture frame or you can remove it altogether. If you do decide to get one, get disposable screen protectors, cut then to fit the window of the survivor. the window is plastic and scratches easy. The protector does not interfere with function, when it gets scratched up peel it off and replace with a fresh one. They come in many colors, mine is black and day glow yellow, makes it easy to find! Found mine at Walmart, the're easy to find. Good luck, Cheers.
(Sorry for the commercial; but it is a good case!)

  • How can I separate my iPod touch from my new iPhone account?

I recently purchased an iPhone and my daughter has an iPod touch...all on the same account. How can I separate the two? I can message her but its like I'm sending it to myself and I end up getting it twice. They are synced together. I can se what she does and vice versa. Need help!

Have her get her own unique AppleID to use just for iCloud and iMessage.  You can use a shared AppleID for family purchased content in the iTunes and app store.
Once she has her own AppleID, delete the iCloud account on the iPod touch and create a new one for her with her own AppleID.  For iMessage, just select the existing AppleID in settings, log out, then log back in with her new AppleID.
Then you will each have your own separate iCloud and iMessage accounts.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • I updated my Ipod Touch (from version 2.2) but nothing obvious has happened

First of all, hello You could say I'm a newbie to this website lol.
Anyway, I've had my Ipod Touch since Christmas 2008. I've used it previously, obvously - but then had to have my original laptop reformatted, & I didn't want to risk losing all of my music by downloading itunes again & having no music when it started to sync so I never used it again. I got a new laptop for Christmas 2009 & decided I wasn't that interested in whether I lost music or not because I would only have revamped everything & replaced old music with new so I went ahead & downloaded itunes again. At first, it wouldn't recognise the ipod at all. (I tried the lead in all USB's as somebody suggested but that didn't work. I restored the whole ipod, but it still wasn't recognisable. A friend gave me one of his leads to borrow & I've got everything working. I downloaded a few of the free apps from the itunes store, but a pop-up window came up when I tried to sync, telling me that they wouldn't work because I needed a newer version (OS or something? But it mentioned iPhone.) I updated it to the newest version, as somebody else suggested & when I'd clicked 'done,' it showed me the games list. I'm not sure whether it's worked or not. I used my Mum's credit card, & she gets quite wary after a substantial amount of money went missing from my Dad's bank account after using Amazon. I checked my itunes account & the recent purchases, which just listed the apps I'd downloaded with no mentioning of the update. I'm beginning to think it hasn't worked, but as I'm new to this sort of thing - I'm not sure whether it takes time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm actually having the SAME problem. I did not get an error message after I paid for the upgrade and it downloaded. I restarted my iPod Touch. I redownloaded iTunes. I restarted my laptop. If anyone could help with this situation that would be great.

  • Mysteriously my safari app disappeared from my Ipod Touch 3rd gen.  How do I reload it?  I "restored" my ipod from my Mac Book, but still no safari.  Any help appreciated.

My ipod touch 3rd gen suddenly lost the safari app.  I restored it from my mac book sync, but still no app.  I'm wondering if when I messed around with "restrictions" through settings did something.  Any help is appreciated.

Go to your Home screen on the iPod then swipe to the left so you see the white search field top of the window. Type in: Safari  then tap Search.
Tap Settings / General / Restrictions. On or off?

  • My ipod touch turns on and only a white screens appears. Any idea's on a fix for this?

    Help

    Try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off that shows up first).

  • I brought a pretty nice ipod touch from pawn shop

I brought a pretty nice ipod touch from a pawn shop but I noticed that it still contained some information from the previous owner.  I did a factory restore and updated to OS5 but after doing some reading online about the icloud made me wonder if this ipod device could be located with the "findmyiphone" app even though I did a factory restore.  The reason why I am asking is because I brought this ipod for my 13 year old and we live in a small city, I do not want my child to be a victim of any crime because of this ipod.  I would like to be the only one who can use the "findmyphone" app. How can I do this?

The 'find my iPod' app works more in 'I'm searching for the device named Jack's iPad' not 'I'm looking for serial number.........', which, like Illass said, makes it relatively useless in recovering a stolen device. Restore to factory defaults and change its name and Find my iPod no longer functions. One thing that I have occasionally seen reported is that the old owner can get e-mails from Apple (automatically generated e-mails) when their 'lost' iPads are sent into service, etc. But I've only seen a couple of these so it may have been a fluke.
If your child happens to lose their new toy, if someone unscrupulous finds it, then that person can defeat the 'find my  ipod' the same way you just did...by restoring to factory defaults. If you're worried about being in possession of a stolen device you could contact your local police and see if they h ave a report on it...of course if it is stolen then they'll likely confiscate it from you to return it to its former owner and you'll be out the money you paid unless you can get a refund from the pawn shop.
Find my iPod/iPad is meant to be more a 'I left it laying somewhere' program, not a 'get me my property back' program.

  • Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones

Oh look a 'search' function on the iPod Touch, but not on our iPhones. And we had a search all along on our iPhones, except only in the Google Maps prog.
    What the _?

the search in safari searches the net, not the 100's of addresses, calendar entries, emails and notes on the iPhone. Any smartphone or phone billed and priced as a smartphone should do this. There should be a sense of urgency to address this one would think. Josh, we have received maybe three software updates now.
