Looking to upgrade (finally), but first...(about port forwardig)
I've got a (fairly) old Airport Extreme (Snow) base station. Most of the computers around the house are new enough to have the "n" airport cards in them, so I'm looking to upgrade to a new base station that support this.
One of the pet peeves I've had for a while is that the base station that I currently have (snow) gives you extremely limited possibilities for forwarding public ports to specific machines. It limits you to 20. If you try to enter in 21 ports to forward to any particular machine, it gives an error and will not let you reboot the station.
Does the current Airport Extreme Base Stations have this same limitation? If not, I'll just buy a different wireless router that does and pay the couple of bucks Apple charges to unlock the wireless card instead.
Has anyone been able to forward more than 20 ports to their computer using the current base station?

You either have a 802.11b dual-Ethernet (aka snow) AirPort base station (ABS) OR an 802.11b/g round AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). The snow ABS and AEBS are totally different animals.

The new AEBS allows ranges of ports to be forwarded which makes life simpler. I also believe that the limit of 20 no longer exists.

I just bought iphone 5 and my itunes says I need itunes 10.7 But when I look for upgrades it says I have the current version of itunes. HELP!
I am so sorry I am frustrating you. This is the first time I have used this community and am leanring as I go. I am not able to see the entire post that you leave, unless I look at it on my phone (email)--I am so sorry. You have no idea how much i appreciate your help. Yes, I see that I can get the later version of OS software, but its not availabe for immediate download. My only options appear to be having it shipped, or going to the store to purchase. And if you know of another way that I can access all of my itunes library music on my new phone withouth using itunes, I would love to hear about it.--thanks and again i am so sorry for frustrating you.

I have a project in my Final Cut just about done. I want to add my slideshow as part ofthe project and burn it to DVD. Inmy slideshow, there are some stills from the movie clips and some downloadedfrom the internet but they all look blur when playback and even worse if Iapply Ken Burn to it. The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto. The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT, the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet.After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not. The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not. I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536. I am considering up grading to lightroom 5. But first I need to be sure I can retrieve my original library, which has been replaced by images from iphoto I hadn't slected. I currently use a lightroom 3 and have spent countless hours as a professional photographer improving my original photographs. Can I speak to someone regarding this matter?
I would really appreciate your help in resolving this matter asap.

Hope you slept well. I have been busy looking into many of the things you
have told me.
Where should I start so much info.
There are 7 Ircat folders. Some empty some contain approx 7000 images. Some
of the images /altered on lightroom are here few maybe 50. Although they
are missing or offline and now in the CR2 format ( photoshop elements),
which is very strange. I think this an issue as to why it may have all
gone, changed? In another Ircat folder many images are in the condition I
left them although not all of them, the latest 2013 are missing. Also in
another extension Ircat folder many of the images are there I imagine the
same 7000 but cant be seen?
On my hard drive there is a folder I cannot open, it reads in progress and
says no App to open document, search App store for Application. Perhaps
this is the key, I also have little storage space on my hard drive.
Many images under 2012 on hard drive have the tiff image, with altered
version created on lightroom some now show as CR2 version to view the photo
photoshop elements opens up automatically, which I never use. I do feel
this is a major reason/ issue?
Also under certain folders with dates my images appear pixelated or blurry.
Under another heading the jpg version is great approx 73 some are missing
the latest and most important, unfortunately I want in Tiff.
Under another folder on hard drive I have many of the images I am chasing
approx 60 but the size is a concern 2-2.5mb, should be around 40mb?
In another folder all are in CR2 photoshop elements.
Time Machine, which I'm sure was inactive tells me it could not back up
disk?
Under thumbnails it looked promising all in DNG many missing and in CR2
format.
I thought I would let you know in case I haven't already that the memory on
the imac is very low, hence why I began trashing/ deleting images yesterday
thet are saved on my hard drive this is when all this mess occured.
Are there short cuts I can use to remove images that are duplicates without
lightroom becoming tempermental?
Were too next? I am hoping the originals can be found and installed in
their original form.

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

I am trying to download the trial version and I get to the Adobe Assistant Download complete, but then NO file allows for download. I have turned off all blocks, looked in Explorer, I have spent about 3 hours doing this... HELP
I personally try to avoid that "download assistant" whenever possible...

i want to produce wedding dvds.whats the best software to use...final cut x I'm thinking but what about the quality of the dvd? Can i use idvd?
The only Programms I worked with are DVD Studio Pro and iDVD. You can burn a Video-DVD with Toast but there is no real option to design your Menu. Just a few themes as far as I discovered.
Do you have a Blue Ray Device to burn* the HD-DVD? Are the Bride and Groom able to watch the Blue Ray?
* which is only possible with DVD Studio Pro and not iMovie as far as I know.

For better quality I would go the Compressor & DVD Studio Pro workflow I just learned.
Export the Movie as is from Final Cut Pro and then use Compressor to encode the File.
Consider delivering the Movie in a different way like a private video on vimeo, a Website or on an SD card which is not really romantic... -

Hi there, I have a 2009 Macbook - running on OS X V.10.6.8... but I'm looking at upgrading the Operating System to V.10.10. Will your latest version of LIghtroom (the one I can currently get a free one month trial of from your site) work with Apple's latest operating system - Yosemite V.10.10? Or will LR only work with V.10.7, 10.8 or 10.9?
Thanks, SeamusHey, problem solved. One of the drives was faulty. I erased the 2nd drive (which was showing up as the degraded raid slice), deleted the RAID set and restored the 2nd drive from a back-up disk image. After that, when I booted using 'option' I was presented with two boot disks but only one that worked. And when it did boot up only the reformatted disk was showing in Diskutil so I'm guessing the second one is knackered. With it still in place the server still wouldn't boot up from a full shutdown, but the moment it was removed it booted up no probs. Wakes up from sleep as well so it seems sorted.
So now just need to decide whether I'll bother with replacing the second drive or just use an external back-up. I have just bought a 1TB drive to back up to so will probably just go with that.
Btw, is there anyway I can test the drive I removed to see if can be saved?

Firstly, I know there have been many other posts concerning port 4567 on the BT Home Hub; I know many other people are concerned, as I am, about what appears to be a glaring hole in the Hub's security. However, I think people need to remember that BT's hub isn't the only one to have this issue; a quick search on Google will show quite a few other branded routers have the same 'hole' in their security. And they often cite the same 'excuses' for why it is there: firmware updates, and general network monitoring. So maybe we should stop giving BT the boot about this?
I used to be really concerned about port 4567, after both grc.com and t1shopper.com both kept showing it was "open" while virtually every other port was "stealthed". But today I ran a simple, free program called TCPView. It shows you, in real-time, the state of TCP/UDP ports on your computer; the processes using them; the connection state, and so on. When I ran it for the first time, it only showed 4 ports with "established" connection. And all those I was familiar with. I looked down the list and not once did I see "port 4567" "established", or "listening", or "time_wait". There was no evidence it was being used by anything; it wasn't listed at all, even though grc.com - at the same time - still showed the port was "open". So this got me thinking: could these be false positives? Is it possible we're making something out of nothing? Is it really a security risk? Would BT really jeopardise their customers' security like this? I highly doubt it.
BTW: I used to be able to use port forwarding on my Hub to stealth port 4567. But now port forwarding no longer seems to work. Either I am doing it wrong, or somehow a firmware update has rendered it useless. Also, don't bother telling me to use a software firewall; I have tried practically all of them and not one of them stealthed port 4567. In my experience the router renders software firewalls virtually redundant. Either that, or I'm configuring them wrong.'open' just means that someone trying to connect from the outside can see it. If there is a service to process it (with appropriate port forwarding if on a device other than the router itself) it may connect; but in the more likely event there isn't such a service they will get some kind of 'not connected' message. That is different from 'stealth' where they just don't see any response at all. The response from the open port shown that there is something at the ip address, and that it might therefore be worth trying to attack.
TCPView tells you what is actually connected at the moment. You are pretty unlikely to see anyone who did attack unless you happened to look exactly as the attack was happening. Also, TCPView is looking from the computer at connections to the computer, not at the router. You wouldn't see anything connected to the router, or to any other device on your network, only to things connected (via the router) to the computer. -
Problems with the first USB port

I'm having a problem with my 13 inch i5 Macbook Pro
For some reason my first USB port isn't working well, doesn't matter what, i plug in it just won't recognize anything.
But whenever I restart my mac, everything works well, and after about 2~3 days it stopps again and I have to reset or log out my mac again..
I tried to reset the SMC and the PRAM, it didn't work
This is freaking me out, I've never dropped my mac or something. It's not really old bought it in august.
I also upgraded to lion, it didn't work sadly and this problem still exists.
I'm pretty sure some people have this too, this is not an hardware issue, it's a software issue
Does anyone got any idea?

Looking to upgrade stock 232gb hard drive
From what I can tell, I have a MacBook Pro (black keys, >2008 model) with the following:
Capacity: 232.89 GB
Model: FUJITSU MJA2250BH FFS G1
I am looking to upgrade to a larger hard drive (preferably 1tb, but ~750gb is alright too) as this one is filling up quickly.
I do a lot of photoshop/lightroom work on large files (sometimes larger than 100mb) so I'm guessing I want something fast (7200 rpm?). I have 4gb of Ram installed right now, if that makes a difference.
Can anyone reccomend a good hard drive for me? Also, how difficult (as far as tools, technical expertise, etc) would it be for me to install a new hard drive by myself?
Thanks for the help.Hybrids include a small SSD that helps speed data transfers increasing the overall throughput of the drive about 10-20% over that of a standard equivalent drive. Go with Seagate or Hitach for drives. I'm not a big lover of WD because too many of their products are not very compatible with Macs.
Your computer is probably out of warranty, but if not then no. It's DIY in the later MBPs. But if you have to do a semi-disassembly (it's not plug and forget) then any damage you may do will not be covered under the warranty.
