Looking to upgrade most of our equipment in the next six months

Hi hutchingsp....we are using 9tb on san including snap shots...where would I measure the IO at the san or hosts?...some people have suggested that I would be happier with vmware for our hypervisor and veeam instead of dpm which i am not a big fan of...cheers

We run three hosts in house with 24 hyper-v vm's running on them and stored on an equalogic ps4100..with another equalogic taking care of backup..and another equalogic san taking care of dr offsite about 20 miles up the road. In house we run exchange, sharepoint (getting rid of this), citrix servers, rds servers, lync server 2010, dpm server, and file servers. Most of the equipment is going on six years old. Most of the 160 users are remote and login to the network thru citrix (mac users) or rds (windows users) and use the lync server for their office voip. So we have kind of a private cloud that has served us pretty well for a long time over two upgrades..maybe 11 years or so...We are not entirely private...we do have a couple apps dished out as SAS as well.
Our options for upgrades are keep kind of status quo by upgrading...

  • My itunes won't update. It's looking for 10.6.0.40. Last time it tried to update, I downloaded the msi to my desktop and I deleted it within the last six months. Now I can't uninstall or update.

The last time my iTunes couldn't update. I used support from Itunes and downloaded it my desktop. My mistake. Because without thinking, I deleted it within the last six months from my desktop, without thinking I'd need it later. For the past month I've needed to update my Itunes and it can't find the msi. Now, my Ipad, my kids' ipod touches and my iphone can't update. Especially the ipod touches, iphone and work ipad have already updated to the OS6. And, now they won't work with this outdated iTunes. Help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Looking to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB, what should I buy?

This is the laptop I recently purchased to keel me over while I build a desktop over the next few months, my last laptop's Hardrive and Graphics Card burned out. Looking to upgrade the RAM from the measly 4 GB to 8 GB but I am unsure of what I should buy or if I can even upgrade the RAM at all. I've done some research through the HP guide to Upgrading Memory but it is very general. Much appreciation for any help.

  • Help! How do I upgrade my Photography CC plan to the discounted Complete CC plan? I would like to use Adobe Illustrator, now!

At the end of my trial for Illustrator, I am given  this:
So I click that open to the plans page in my browser. Click on the Complete CC discount plan. It loads my account data and spits out this:
So, I click on "See your plan details" and it takes me to my plan area of my CC account. I click on "Manage plan," and then get this:
That's all well and good, but I'm hoping to pay it by month (as I do with the photography plan), since I am but a wee freelancer just starting out...
So, I click on "Upgrade plan," which stops me on the next page due to the information given at the top and then the bottom.
    and
Yeah. Well, I am not ready for such a huge hit to my bank account, and when I run the calculations, it comes down to the $49.99/mo plan (not the discounted plan), anyway. It also doesn't give me the option to ONLY purchase Illustrator to add onto the photography plan, which is generally what I am wanting, anyway.
So, my question is, if I don't qualify for the discount, then why is it being shown on my trial expiration? Since I am a current CC customer, it seems to me that I should qualify, though. And barring that, if I don't qualify, is there any way to purchase access to Illustrator via the Photography plan without paying $50/month?
I suppose if the $50 one is the only route open to me, I will just have to wait until I've gotten enough work to qualify the expenditure, but it would be wonderful to get the $30 discounted one. And yes, right now, $20 is enough of a gap to hit my budget, especially when it adds up month after month.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide me.
    -RED

I did check your account, as an exception you can have the complete CC for 49.99$ permonth for an yearly contract, please confirm if you wish to get that plan change, I can assist you with this or you can contact Adobe support too at Contact Customer Care

  • Verizon, Does YOUR equipment need service and upgrade? Not OURS? Please Help

         Hello,
I used to have a pretty stable dial-up, then DSL, then DSL enhanced connection. But late this summer, my service has gotten horrible. In the evenings, I can get disconnected every 1 to 2 minutes or even get disconnected when I am trying to reconnect from the last disconnect.
I have a new modem/router from Verizon and have gone through all the standard troubleshooting suggestions given on this site.
I then began sifting through these forums and then posting about my difficulties.
Through the last several months it seems as though more people are complaining about the frequent internet slowdowns and disconnects. We've all been walked through the same steps.
Finally we are being told that these problems are happening during "high-traffic" times on the internet and nothing else is said.
I recently saw a post where a customer said they were told by a Verizon service technician that the problems are because Verizon's hardware needs to be upgraded to handle the larger amount of internet traffic.
I have rebooted and reset my modem many times. I've restarted my computer, run cleaning programs, cleared the DNS folder, and defragged. I've even changed the phone and Ethernet cables.
    Verizon,
Will you please work on solutions on your end instead of saying everything is on OUR end?
    Thank you

We had escalated this previously for you and your post was copied to our private support board. Please refer all correspondences to there from here on out. • Embedded systems (PIC based): We are looking to upgrade our GPIB controller chip from Ines iGPIB7210 to a more "mainstream" chip and are interested in NI's offerings.

Ines provides a library of ANSI C source to drive their GPIB chip from any suitable processor (as do ComputerBoards). Do NI have a source code library for their driver chips? BTW it doesn't need GPIB "Controller" capability. The uP controlling the GPIB chip is a Microchip PIC18C452.

    Hi Mr James,
Thanks for your question ..We are also planning to have GPIB interface for our equipment .Again we are new to the interface design .For our equipment we dont need controller capability.I think Ni TNT 488.2 T/L is suitable for our application .But we are stuck with this ...Our equipment has a PIC 16c77 MCU.
If you can help regarding the procedures to be followed for having this GPIB interface that will be great!!!
I have some doubts regarding this.
    1. How we can use the TNT 488.2 chip in our equipment board.
    2. How we can controll this GPIB chip Is it is done by PIC controller?
    3. Is above PIC is compatible with TNT 488.2 T/L.
4.Do we need to program the GPIB chip.I know that there is a devoper kit ESP-488 package is there .How we can
develop program for GPIB using this package.
    5. Who will help in designing the same
    Please help me .
    Thanks in advance.
    regards
    Prasad

  • Most of our premium movie channels do not come across as HD (not 1080).

Most of our premium channels do not show as HD (or the 1080 format, picture cut off on top and bottom)  This occurs with both our TVs.  We recently upgraded to the new Xfinity box for the living room with the remote in the bedroom.  We never noticed this problem before.

For me in western PA, most of the premium channels are not HD. For example, HBO has about 5 channels, but only one is broadcast HD. The others are SD and don't fill up the screen on my HD DVR. If you're referring to the X1 box, then the box only stretches the image left/right (if you have that turned on), it does not touch top/bottom, so you will see bars if that is how the broadcast is. You may be confusing HD with "filling your screen". Your TV may have a zoom or stretch setting as well that you may be able to adjust.

  • Looking to upgrade (finally), but first...(about port forwardig)

I've got a (fairly) old Airport Extreme (Snow) base station. Most of the computers around the house are new enough to have the "n" airport cards in them, so I'm looking to upgrade to a new base station that support this.
One of the pet peeves I've had for a while is that the base station that I currently have (snow) gives you extremely limited possibilities for forwarding public ports to specific machines. It limits you to 20. If you try to enter in 21 ports to forward to any particular machine, it gives an error and will not let you reboot the station.
Does the current Airport Extreme Base Stations have this same limitation? If not, I'll just buy a different wireless router that does and pay the couple of bucks Apple charges to unlock the wireless card instead.
Has anyone been able to forward more than 20 ports to their computer using the current base station?

I've got a (fairly) old Airport Extreme (Snow) base station.
You either have a 802.11b dual-Ethernet (aka snow) AirPort base station (ABS) OR an 802.11b/g round AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). The snow ABS and AEBS are totally different animals.
    KB 107908, Identifying AirPort hardware
The new AEBS allows ranges of ports to be forwarded which makes life simpler. I also believe that the limit of 20 no longer exists.

  • I have an HP Pavilion M8200N DeskTop looking to upgrade it?

I was doing some reason and its not a bad desktop, nothing super crazy but good enough for most of my video editing and photo work. Im looking to upgrade it as the only thing laking is the video card. So can you please tell me what the best video card is to get without upgrading my power supply and spending huge cash, but still a graphics card. As well a link to ram, how much should i put in extra?
Maybe cheap add ons that will help as well! thanks

Here are the specs for the MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2) motherboard installed in your computer. Here is the "Software & Driver Downloads" page for your computer. Your computer is a 64-bit system running a 32-bit Windows Vista OS. HP provides drivers and software for Vista 64-bit for your computer. If you wish to install the maximum 8GB that your computer can use, you will need to replace the 32-bit OS with a 64-bit OS. If you made your HP Recovery Discs, you can use them to install most of the included HP software back on the computer after installing Vista 64-bit. A quick search on this forum should return a method to get a Vista 64-bit installation disc.

Where can i find out what year my computer is.
There is a code from which we can look up the exact specs. Do "About this Mac..." from your Apple menu and, in the reslulting window, click the "More Info..." button. That launches System Profiler for you. The opening screen of Profiler in OS 10.6.8 looks like this:
[click image for a larger view if needed]
Note the SECOND line in the main pane under "Hardware Overview", "Model Identifier." There are numbers after "iMac." Post those numbers and we can look up the Model year as Apple sees it.
    Do I keep the original?
If you have the model I think you do, you have two RAM slots and will have to remove the original RAM to make room for the new.
NOTE: Crucial.com does not recognize this computer's ability to use more RAM than the outdated Apple specs show (4GB). If you really want to go to the full 6GB it can handle with today's RAM modules, you have to look elsewhere like the previously referenced OWC ( http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac ). For over  a decade, I've bought 95 percent of our Mac RAM (and we have 17 Macs in the family!) from OWC and have never received any RAM that did not work perfeclty.
OWC is a US company, but does ship to certain overseas addresses. If you are not in N. America, letting us know where you are may save you time looking. That's why Apple puts "Geographic Location" field in the user profile. Very handy when looking to order upgrades.

  • PowerMac G4 has died, looking to upgrade

Basically, my PowerMac G4 has died and I am looking at upgrading my machine.
I have two options available to me; either a Powermac G5 quad 2.5Ghz processor with 5Gb of ram, or a 24" Intel iMac with a 2.17Ghz dual core processor and 2.5Gb of ram.
I will be using it mainly for Music editing on Cubase and Logic (when I buy it) and a little bit of Photo editing using Photoshop CS5.
Which one will be better to get?
    Thanks

    The Intel machine.
If you are going to acquire SW, then there is no reason to stay with the Power PC platform, especially since most of the recent Adobe and Apple "pro" apps won't run there any more (like Photoshop CS5 and Logic Studio, for instance).
The Quad is a fine machine, very powerful, but there is the cooling system issue to worry about plus the fact that, at best, you will be getting a five-year-old machine, which is always a gamble and potentially a major headache.

  • Looking to upgrade ram to 16GB

Hello, I've been looking to upgrade my PC's ram for a while. I have one 8GB stick now, DDR3, samsung. I'm hoping to just find another 8Gb DDR3 stick instead of buying two, as I have very little money. I mainly use my PC for gaming, and plan to upgrade my video card too. I don't know much about ram, and was wondering if anyone could help me find CHEAP ram that is 8Gb and is compatible with my PC?

    AlienVibez, welcome to the forum.
Here is the memory recommended by Crucial Memory.  They guaranty that it will work.  If you have questions you can contact their Tech Support.  I would check to assure that it is compatible with your existing 8 GB stick.

    Hello @MattCaron,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how you are looking to upgrade the GPU on your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
According to the product specifications for the GPU you would like to upgrade to, the PCI connection bus is configured for 3.0; which conflicts with the older PCI Express x16 bus on your computer. If you are looking for a compatible GPU for your system, you will need to ensure it is compatible with PCI Express x16 or PCI Express 2.0 (which is compatible with x16 and 3.0 buses).
    I hope this helps!

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.
