Loop conversion automatically and timeline markers

in my old version of soundtrack, when i set the BPM for a project, whenever i listened to any of my loops/wavs in the browser they automatically pitch shifted and tempo shifted to play along with the project so i could hear how they fitted. when dragged into the timeline they automatically converted to loops; but it was possible to undo that if needed.
in the current STPro the exact same files don't play as loops, and play at native pitch and tempo. i have to drag into the timeline and convert to loop to hear if it fits the project. this makes auditioning suitable clips almost impossible.
is there a way of making the default setting the same as the previous soundtrack?

Well, adding markers in the Compressor preview window seems a no-no!
First it doesn't show markers at the beginning of a new clip. If you click the arrow to move to the next marker it goes to the next VISIBLE marker on the timeline. But if you then arrow the playhead back to where you know a new clip begins and then use the drop-down at the bottom of the window, it will give you the option to REMOVE the marker - even though there's no marker visible and the playhead missed it when you clicked the "next clip" arrow.
OK - I accept the case for mandatory markers at the beginning of each clip - but why aren't they visible - and why the option to remove them?
If they're removable, and the timeline is so cramped you can't SEE them, then you can easily remove one inadvertently - and we don't want to do that, do we?

Timeline Markers From PP to AE and Other Questions

I find no instructions to import timeline markers along with Premiere sequences. Is it possible?
I'm still very new to AE and I am confusing myself quite easily going back and forth between the programs. What is the usual practice if i want to replace parts of original footage with segments created in AE?
Should I import the Premiere sequence and work on the segments in AE and create movie from there OR create the composition in AE and import into the Premiere project? In other words, once I import or export from one program to another, do I abandon the original project?
I ask because i am ending up with AE comps on my Premiere timeline as well as Premiere sequences in AE timelines.
I hope that doesn't sound too dumb

No, that doesn't sound too dumb. There are a lot of options to figure out. See "Working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects" for an overview.
The reason that there are a lot of options is that each of them is good for different things.
That means that we can't really answer your question without knowing exactly what you're trying to accomplish.
I suggest trying the various methods described int he document that I linked to and getting back to us when you have a specific piece of your work that you can't figure out how to do.

How to make a movie start automatically and loop continuously

Hi there,
Two beginner questions here for a kind helpful person out there. I have searched the Encore help option but the answers all refer to menu options.
I have exported a simple movie from Premiere into Encore. There is no menu. It if for a museum and the client wants to simply insert the DVD and for it to launch itself and then play on a continuous loop. They don't want any interactivity.
So, my question is how do I apply a simple, 'on insert - play' rule and 'on end - go back to beginning and play' so that this happens automatically?

rightfully, at the Menu>properties>Motion>just make sure the "Loop #:" stated "Forever" and your "Loop Point" and "Duration" will automatically adjusted when you insert the movie clip on the background of your Menu. I'm using a CS5 Encore... Trying out for very long time yet couldn't achieve it... However, I use to do it on Encore 1.5, no problem at all, it works! Just don't know why it doesn't on CS5 Encore... I'm suspecting that the software I'm holding might have some problem? Hope you are using CS5 Encore also, could you try on and let me know if it works on your side?

Hi,
Conversion is converting the legacy data from your old system to SAP system. This can be done through SAP provided tools like LSMW (Legacy system migration workbench) and through BDC (Batch data conversion). This would be called as automatic conversion. In both the tools you first have to record the transaction for which you want to convert the data and then provide the data in excel or txt format.
The Tcode for LSMW is LSMW and for BDC is SHDB.
Manual conversion is actually keying in the data in the respective transactions.

Is there a way to detect motion and set markers automatically?

My video includes walking around with the camera. I walk, then stop and hold the camera in one area, then pan, then continue walking (and repeat).
While panning, there is some annoying flicker of vertical objects (beams, poles, whatever). I can use a horizontal fast blur to fix this, but I only want the blur applied when there is panning (not when the camera is relatively still). Doing it manually is cumbersome.
Is there a way to detect when motion is going on (over a certain threshold)? I would like PP to tell me when there is significant motion, and place markers in the points where it begins and ends (when motion goes over a threshold and then when it falls below the threshold).

One thing you can try is to bring your footage into Prelude - it will lay out the entire clip so you can see thumbnail snapshots for the whole clip at once - that might give you a good start to see where there is a lot of motion. Then, you can add markers very easily at all of those points - and when you send it over to Premiere, the markers will show up on your clip.
Not automated, but a good workflow to achieve what you are looking for.

How do I stop transcoding automatic and go manual?

I have a DVD project which is 5 hours long and 4 menus's. I have made many and it worked fine on automatic transcoding. But, for some reason, the latest project is failing,
saying disc capacity too small. It is saying it is 8.8 gig. I built the project with linking the timeline from PPro, and not doing any transcoding before the menus and everything was done.
So, I want to manually change the encoding specs, but when I try to get to transcoding settings, it is grayed out which has forced my to automatic and not allowing me to change manually.

Thanks Stan for the help. I have actually tried doing this project 3 times from scratch. Everything had started normal saying it would take 8.54 gig, and like 3 meg free in the disc size. I even have gone into project settings and put the max bit rate to the lowest 6. Here are screen shots of the failures as they came up. After the failure, the disc size jumps way up.
Since I have made like 10 projects with the exact same settings and project length, this is weird.

Conversion automatic unit measure

I am using a material with Base Unit of Measure = pza and Order Unit = crt.
When a SC is created; it is with a Base Unit of Measure = pza; but when PO is created, It does not make the automatic conversion of Order Unit = crt
How can I make this conversion automatic?

Need Help with Inserting Timeline Markers

I have not use my premiere element 3.2 since 2008 and forgot some of the procedures. now, I need help with the insertion of Timeline Markers. I did what the Help Page showed me. But the markers were not effective in the resulting DVD, or, even when viewing the video in the editing page as if thye were not there! Here is what I did:.
1) Click the Timeline button.
2) Click in an empty space in a video or audio track in the Timeline to make the Timeline active and deselect any clips.
3) Move the current-time indicator in the Timeline to the frame where I need the marker.
4) Click the Add Marker icon in the Timeline to place the Marker 5 times where I want them.
5) Verified that each Timeline Marker is present at the intended place.
6) Burned DVD
7) Can NOT jump to any of the intended Marker in the Resulting DVD during playback.
The question is "What did I do wrong or didn't do?" It seems that I did the same before and worked! Please advise!
Also, what are the significance of the Red line just below the Timeline and the yellow bars inside the video and audio frames. But after preforming Timeline/Render Work Area, they were all gone? What purposes do they serve and what is the significance of Rendering? Thank you for your help!
I repeat the process and did a Rendering before making the DVD also. It did not help!

Long time no talk! You used to help me out many times when the PE-1 through PE-3 came out. I was HOPING you would still be around and you are! You came through again this time! Many thanks to you.
I use the Add DVD Scene button to insert the Markers. They are Green. Made a DVD and the markers work OK although ythey are "effective" during play back using the editing window.
While that problem was solved, will you come back and answer the other two questions concerning Rendering and the Red/Yellow lines? I would appreciate it very much!

Help! Problems with Automatic and Discretionary Hyphens from FrameMaker

Does anyone know how to prevent RoboHelp from picking up automatic and discretionary hyphens from linked FrameMaker files?
I'm in a situation where I need to use automatic hyphens (and sometimes discretionary hyphens to prevent strange breaks) in my chapter titles and heading 1s. RoboHelp is great about ignoring the auto/disc hyphens in inline text (i.e., the titles and heading do not include the hyphen because they are not needed).
For example:

RoboHelp fails, however, when it comes to including the auto/disc hyphens in cross references and filenames. Even if the cross-reference text appears correctly in FrameMaker, the hyphens always show up in the cross-reference text in RoboHelp.

Normally the hyphens are handled fine in RoboHelp. However, there seems to be a specific scenario where you are facing issue as mentioned by you. It will be great if you can share a sample FrameMaker document leading to such an issue when converted in RoboHelp. You can upload the document at acrobat.com or any other location and share the download URL.
Also, please specify any settings/mappings applied for FM document conversion.

Podcasts and track markers

I record a podcast (music) typically using Sound Studio Pro. I usually then go ahead and "track" the podcast in Sound Studio Pro (markers), and those markers show up when I play the resulting AIFF audio file in Quicktime.
I want to then use GarageBand to add track names along with artwork.
Is there a way to create separations on the podcast track using the track markers? It's annoying to have to go back and re-track the audio every time.

If they're playing one episode then stopping, you have the shuffle songs/albums feature turned on. I know it sounds daft - but if shuffle is off, Podcasts will play one after another. However, they'll play in reverse order - newest to oldest! At least, that's what most of us seem to find.
Note though, if you turn off the shuffle while playing a Podcast it will have no effect - they'll still play one at a time. You would need to start a song, then go back to the Podcast. The same happens (in reverse) if you turn on shuffle while playing a Podcast.
I know it's weird, but try it. As soon as you start the first of several episodes you'll know what it's going to do by looking at the X of X in the display. 1 of 1 means it'll play one at a time and 1 of 6 (for example) will play them all.
I've yet to understand the logic behind the iPod's handling of Podcasts, and each model of iPod I use (5th gen, Classic and Touch) does it differently!
The 5th gen will only play one at a time which is useful since they're listed in reverse chronological order.
The Classic also lists them in reverse chronolgical order but has the option once you know the trick/secret method to play them one after the other, or not if you choose. However, because they're listed in reverse date order, they play in reverse date order, which is not very helpful so I choose the play one then stop option.
The iPod Touch (32GB) will only play Podcasts one after another without automatically stopping but they are listed and therefore play in correct chronological order. (Well - I haven't found a method for switching this off yet anyway.) Best of all, you can see how long an episode is before starting it playing and it will indicate a part-heard episode and list the remaining time of it as well.
So although you may think that Apple haven't got it quiet right with Podcasts yet (as I do), they are getting better. And of course, the iPod is the best Podcast handler I've seen so far.

In and out markers missing in QT Pro?

I've just bought QT Pro 7 and want to edit a movie into separate clips. I can see a timeline indicator but no in and out markers for selecting certain sections of the movie. Can anyone help?

Quicktime Pro can't edit MPEG-1 or 2 videos. You need something like MPEG-Streamclip a free program to be able to edit these type of videos.

In and out markers

Is it just me or is the online help manual not always that helpful? When splittling clips in says to insert in and out markers but it does not really tell you how.
I found them in the clip drop down menu but they are grayed out. I want to be able to add back a few frames if needed when editing a video. I used to use pinacle studio and you could just drag the end of any clip to restore frames.

There are several ways to add In & Out Points (not ever heard them called "markers") in a Clip.
One way is to Dbl-click on the Clip in the Project Panel. This will Open the Clip in the Source Monitor. There, you can use the In & Out Poiints (maybe these are the "markers" referred to), in the Source Monitor. When done, drag the Clip from the Source Monitor to the Timeline. This creates an Instance of that Clip. You can have unlimited Instances, and they can all have different In & Out Ponts.
Another way to do this is to drag the Clip from the Project Panel to the Timeline. At the Head of the Clip, click-drag to set the In Point. Now, click-drag on the Tail, to set the Out Point.
A variation of the above is to drag the Clip to the Timeline, then use the Scissors/Razor Tool (or Ctrl-K, with the CTI where you want to Cut) to Cut the Clip. Separate it, as is required. Then Rt-click on all sections to be removed, and choose Delete and Close Gaps.
Remember, your original AV file is NOT harmed, or changed in any way. You are only writing instructions to the Project file, PREL, telling it what to do, when you go to output the Timeline. Don't worry about "cutting" Frames out, as they are not really gone. You can click-drag on a Head, or Tail, to get them back again.
Now, when setting In & Out Points, if you are using Transitions, see this ARTICLE, as you WILL want to leave adequate Handles.
