Looping a single track of sleep sounds

I have made a recording of nighttime sounds heard during a recent visit to the Puerto Rican rain forest.    The recording is about 8 minutes long.   I wish to somehow "loop" it, so that I have a seamless recording that is an hour or so long, so that I can burn it to a CD and play it in my alarm radio (which can play a CD, but has no capability to handle an iOS or USB device), for "falling asleep" use.
The radio can be set to "repeat play" the one 8 minute track, but there is a distracting break in the sound when that happens.   I tried creating an iTunes playlist consisting of seven instances of the one track, and burning a CD while specifying "0 sec" break between tracks.   But even that created a distinct glitch (not due to the recorded sounds themselves not transitioning gracefully from the end of one instance of the track to the beginning of the next).
I seek advice on how to accomplish this.   I fear it is not doable in iTunes.   Perhaps there is some freeware that can accomplish the task relatively painlessly ?

I don't know if this is the best solution but if I were doing this I would take the sound file and paste it together in AIFF format using Garageband or a free editor such as Audacity and burn that to CD.  You might even get some sort of crossfade to work to make it completely seamless.

  • Looping single Tracks

    GarageBand 10.0.3

    Hi!
I want to loop single tracks in GarageBand. These are Midi Tracks, Support tells me I Should go over the track region with cmd to get the loop option as shown on the pic. I don't get that possibility, I can use the cycle function but this repats all tracks.
Do I have to add my track to the loop section first? Tried that but when I drag it back and into the loop section GarageBand tells me doesn't loop anyway.
    Thanks for the help!

Did you select "Type: Loop" when you added the region to the Loop Library? Otherwise it will not loop, but is a one-shot loop.
But you should be able to loop a region without adding it to the Loop library. Check in the track header, if the "Automation" button is highlighted. In that case it is not possible to loop a region. If you disable automation, you should see the curly loop cursor, if you select the region, and move the cursor to the upper right corner of the region - where the color of the region is lighter.

  • How can I change the tempo of a single track?

    Hi,
I've been struggling with finding a way to change the BPM of a single track. There are three tracks and only one of them needs to be sped up. When I try using the flex editor, it is too complicated for what I am trying to do. Is there any more comprehensive way - a slider, or an input option - for changing the BPM of a single track in the newest version of garageband?

The reason some files sound funny and others don't is because audio is handled a few different in Garageband depending on it's source (audio your recorded vs Apple Loops vs non Apple Loop pre recorded audio). Each of these have different color regions with different properties.  I just found this thread that might better explain it:

    I hope that helps!

  • Midi loops when imported into arrange window sound pretty lifeless - please help

    Hi
I am currently using Logic pro 9 and when I play the orchestral midi loops in the loop window they sound really lush. When I drag them into the arrnage window they sound really dull. I think I have changed a master setting somewhere along the line but don't know how to restore it.
It doesn't happen with the audio loops
    I am on Mac OS x 10.6.8
    any suggestions welcome

    Sorry to say, this isn't a bug — it's a feature!
You've just described exactly how they're supposed to work.
+Green Apple Loops are known as Software Instrument Apple Loops (SIALs). They differ from the blue (audio) Apple Loops in that they also contain a MIDI region plus software instrument and effect settings.+
+When Software Instrument Apple Loops are placed on instrument tracks, the region shown in the Arrange area can be edited just like other MIDI regions, including individual note editing.+
+If dragged onto a blank instrument track (one with an empty channel strip), the corresponding instrument and effect(s) settings are automatically inserted.+
+You can also drag Software Instrument Apple Loops directly into a blank Arrange window (with no tracks), or to a blank area below existing tracks. An instrument track and corresponding channel strip are automatically created, and the Apple Loop is loaded (the instrument is inserted into the instrument channel, along with any effects, and the Apple Loop region is placed on the track).+
+When you place Software Instrument Apple Loops on audio tracks, they are imported as audio regions (and behave like blue Apple Loops). Processing load is reduced when green Apple Loops are added to audio tracks.+
+Note: Blue Apple Loops will not play if placed on instrument tracks.+

  • Adjust voice and instrument volumes in single track

Hi, I am relatively new to Garageband and have never really worked with mastering vocal tracks before. I had an old cassette tape that my father had done some recordings on. They were done in a studio and are vocals with organ accompanyment. I wanted to break the cassette down into tracks and put it on YouTube.
I plugged my cassette player's headphones jack into the audio-in port on my Macbook and recorded one long 20 minute track in. I figured out how to adjust the Noise Gate and AUGraphic EQ to reduce most of the static from the transfer and original cassette. The only problem that remains is that when the track was originally recorded, the organ is very loud at some points and drowns out the vocals.
Does anyone know if there is any way to apply filters or mess with the EQ on a single track to lower the volume of the organ or raise the volume of the vocals?
Any assitance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

I don't think there's much of a chance since probably the organ and the voice occupy similar frequency bands. What you can do is pull up the graphic eq on the track (go to the track info pane and add that effect in one of the free slots) and try the different frequency bands to see whether raising or lowering one or several of them makes the balance better. But I guess it will just make the whole mix sound worse.

  • Setting volume levels in a single track

How do I change the playback level of several seconds of a single track?

Good to hear that you were able to sort it out. It sounds as though you were really pushing up against the limits of the disk, so the window of opportunity for the break point would have been very narrow. If you want to experiment with the 8.5gb version again I would suggest guesstimating approximately where the middle of the project is and then scattering chapter markers in that general area. You should come up with one that is in the right place to make it work.

  • Erratic quality in a single track?

I am experiencing a rather strange problem with burned CDs - the sound quality varies widely within a single track. It goes from loud to soft, then loud again. With the current CD I'm trying to burn, I notice that the solo vocals are very soft, and the rest of the time the music is at normal volume.
What can I do to fix the problem? Is this an AIFF issue or is there a setting I need to change? Thanks in advance.

I have experience this before and that was due to the quality of the MP3's that I was burning. Some of the MP3's would be real soft and some loud and I just never realized it until it was on a CD and I was listening to my music other than on my computer.
I remedied this by 'normalizing' the music. I've never burned a CD in iTunes and I don't see a 'normalize' setting in the Preferences, but maybe/hopefully someone else can chime in on how to normalize MP3's prior to burning.
Sorry I could be more help but I know what you are going through.

  • I dragged a loop to the track but I can't hear it when it is supposed to play

I just upgraded to Logic Pro from Garage Band. I started a song. When I added a second loop it doesn't make any sound when the song plays.

    To be exact:
The green ones contain both audio and midi: on a MIDI track the MIDI is used, on an audio track the audio is used. Blue ones are audio only.

  • Is there any way to record a stereo signal on to a single track?

In other words, I would like to be able to record a stereo single track (without multi tracking) such as a guitar ran through a stereo effects pedal, or two microphones through a mixer panned extreme left & right.  Any way to do this with Garageband on one track?  I've tried two separate interfaces, a Apogee Jam and a Sonoma Wireworks via the 30-pin connector and it plays back in mono.  Just wondering if there's an app that would facilitate stereo on one track?

By definition a single track is monophonic. Stereo requires two tracks and two channels.
If you have recorded a single  track of electric guitar, you could route that to a stereo effect and you would  have a stereo sound but it would still require two channels for playback.

  • I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which was unknown imported as single tracks. How can I combine these into one album

I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which came up as unknown has imported as single tracks named track 1, track 2 etc. It wasn't an obscure CD (Paul Carrack - the journey so far) but not one that's available in the itunes store. I've manually changed the track names but they all appear as single tracks in the "Albums" section. Is there a way to put them all into an album to show up as an album with the other albums. Other "unknown" CDs I imported have imported with the correct track names but just don't have the album artwork so I don't understand why this one is behaving totally different?

If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

  • Enhance Tuning to a Key for a Single Track

I am looking to enhance the tuning for a single track but when I go to enhance one track it enhances the tuning for all the tracks. Does anyone know of a way to just enhance the tuning for a single track? Or maybe a way to just export one track out of several?
    Thanks

Well I'm just calling it what Garageband is calling it. At the top it says "Garageband, File, Edit, and then Track. Where you can add, delete, and duplicate a track. When you select "Create New Track" you then can choose from Software Instrument, Real Instrument, or Electric Guitar. I think you are thinking of a Track as a Project. When you first start Garageband the top one says _*New Project*_ and the bottom one says _*Recent Projects*_.
And I know you can move it to a New Project. I was muting all the other Tracks in a project except for the one that I wanted in a certain key and then I exported it to iTunes and then stuck it right back in as a song. So I know how to do it that way but I was wondering if there was an easier way where I didn't need to export and import tracks all the time.

  • How can I export a single track in Soundbooth CS5?

    Greetings,
I have built up a single track in Soundbooth composed of several repeated clips. I wish to export this single track.
How can I do this in CS5 Soundbooth?
    Thanks,
    folsombob

Sorry nobody has answered this. I haven't been in this forum in a couple of weeks.
If you have all the tracks right where you want them, are you able to save the file as an mp3?
Are you looking to export it for web use?
    For video tracking?
I'm not sure why you'd want to export it as opposed to saving in one of the many available formats.

  • Looping a video track with escape -- Bug or Pilot error?

[The next 2 paragraphs are a repeat of my previous post. I'm including them for context.]
I'm working in DVDSP 4 and have encountered a few "anomalies". I wanted to see if I am doing something wrong or if I have found a bug. I will break this into two posts because they are two different issues.
Basically I am creating a DVD that will back a live presentation. The video track is timed to approximate the length of the presentation. But I want to have several "escape hatches". If a segment does run a little long then the presentation will dump into another track that has a still image and a background music track. I don't want to pause the play, because I want full-field video and audio. I also want to advance through the presentation by simply clicking the NEXT CHAPTER button.
    [/End repeated section]
So the other problem with looping a still on a video track is escaping the loop. I've set this track's END JUMP to go to the "Chapter 1" marker of the current video program. (It's the only marker on the this timeline.) I've targeted the "Next Chapter" button to return me to my main timeline. Whether I simulate OR burn this DVD program I get the same results. The playhead does not jump tracks. Instead it returns to the start of the current timeline and begins playing again.
Is this supposed to happen? DVDSP lets me assign all these actions, and the manual and support seems to indicate this should work, but it doesn't. Not sure if this is a bug, a problem with the DVD spec, or simply my lack of knowledge. (please help)

Houghts & Aldershot -- thanks for your reply. To add a little clarity the project goes like this:
The MAIN track is 20 minutes long. If the speaker finishes a section early, he can "NEXT" to the next section (next marker). If he runs long, when he gets to the next marker the dvd will dump him into another track (Lets call it WAITING TRACK) that will "hold" (with some music) until he hits NEXT again. So far this all works.
The problem is getting OUT of the WAITING TRACK loop and back to the MAIN track. Putting a second marker near the end of this track (as Aldershot suggests) will jump me to the end of WAITING but how do I get back to the marker in MAIN? Can I just set an end Jump to go back to the marker I want in MAIN? Will the presenter then have to hit skip forward twice? (I guess I'll have to try and see.)
I guess I could target this marker in main with the MENU button, but then the presenter would have TWO buttons to worry about. I'm trying to make this as zipless as possible.
By the way, if I don't loop the WAITING track back to the first marker, this scenario works. The problem only arises if I loop back to Chapter1. Making the end of the track an infinite hold looked to be a promising option. But it seems to put the player into pause. The user must hit PLAY and then NEXT. Two buttons again.
I'll keep digging and follow up as I learn more.

  • Best Way to Export Single Tracks in Audition

    Hello,
What is the best way to export one single track (stereo or 5.1) from a multiple track mix in the Multitrack Editor if I want to make it mono? Is it by just muting the tracks I don´t want in the final mixdown and then selecting a mono Master in the Mixdown Options box?
What about exporting only a few of the tracks from a multiple track mix to one mono file? Same process?
    Thanks!

"Export all Tracks as Audio Files" found under File>Export.
This will render audio files of your software instruments that start at bar 1, beat 1, and can be dragged right into Pro Tools. The export happens "pre-fader", so it is bounced at unity gain, and excludes any automation.
If there is automation that needs to be included (like a filter sweep or something like that), you'll need to solo the track, and bounce it, because a bounced file does include automation.
Also, if you're using a multi-channel instrument, you'll need to bounce those tracks separately as well.

  • How do I fade in/out a single track?

I thought this would be pretty basic: to fade in and then fade out a single track, but I can't seem to find a way? Is this possible in Garageband? Or should I be looking at Logic Pro 9?

Each track has a volume curve:
