Looping errors on main dvd menu

I just burned a couple of dvds using i-life6. I wanted to set the dvd to loop at the end. I followed the instructions to open project select advanced and select looping. When I put in in the dvd player and selected "play" from the main menu, it would not start the dvd. I had 4 chapters. I can select chapters 2,3,4 and they will play. However Chapter 1 does the same as the main menu "play movie" button. Nothing. Any help. I'm burning to Verbatim 8x disks. Anybody else out there with this challenge?

foodster,
Did you add a chapter near the beginning in iMovie? If so delete it and then try again in iDVD. iDVD will always add a "beginning" cahpter for you, so you should never put a Chapter Marker within 2secs of the beginning....let iDVD do it for you.
Also try to keep chapters away from transitions (2 secs), and from each other (2 secs).

  • Before the main DVD menu

    Hi there,
is there any way to place a short movie (2-3 minutes) before the main DVD-Menu? With that I mean, when I put the DVD in the player, I would like it to start directly with a little intro - like in some movie, in always start with advertising or similar - and then I would like the main DVD-menu to come.
Is there anyway to do that with iDVD?
Thanks for any ideas and answers!

I believe you'd just drag and drop your QT movie to the autostart well while in map view. Try it.
It's the very top box that you drag and drop any QT movie you'd like to start the presentation afterwhich it should return to the main menu. It looks very similar to iDvd6 also:

  • Creating titles (shortcuts) within the DVD menu

    Hi,
    Thanks for reading this post.
I recently made a DVD for a client, the dvd was 9mins long and contained 6 different titles within the 1 sequence (main video body). The client has come back asking whether or not i can create a DVD with the 6 titles as options on the main DVD menu for their convenience.
I moderately new to editing/ mac as everything this entails. At the moment i am thinking that i will need to restructure the footage so that the 6 titles have their own sequences which i can then import into idvd individual and burn onto 1 dvd... Is there a much easier way without having to restructure the footage?
    Hope this makes sense,
    Thanks

You will need to make those 6 different videos into chapters using iMovie, then create a new iDVD project.

  • Error message at loop point of main menu...

Anyone ever get this message when building a DVD?
    http://www.reflexive-cinematics.com/miscimages/errormessage.jpg
I keep getting this damn messages with Every adobe application. I was having tons of issues with encore 1.0 so I upgraded and bought 2.0. Now I'm having that error message.
Does anyone know what the problem is? And by the way, I only get that message on the main menu when it tries to loop. The menu background video is 1:00:00 ( one minute ) and the loop point is 00:07:00 ( seven seconds ) with loop amount set to forever. I've changed it to other stuff to see, but I still get the message.
I am able to burn the disc and everything works, except for the loop point at the main menu. The menu plays till it's duration and then instead of looping it ( in a DVD player ) just stops playback and ( during preview on my computer ) gives that above error message.... ' an abnormal condition has been detected. '
fyi - my computer stats are this, in case anyone was needing to know:
    Pentium Prescott P4 3.0gHz
    2.5 GB's of DDR SDRAM
nVidia Geforce FX5200 128MB vid card
Creative sound blaster audigy ( with live drive )
380 gig's of Hard Drive space

Well nevermind. I seem to have fixed it. I just had to build a new project and re link everything. Seems that maybe the original project got all gunked up or something. It's working fine now.

  • PE7 Loops forever generating DVD Menu with Blue Notes template

I have observed that PE7 will loop forever while generating the DVD Menu (when the target is either a DVD or a directory).  This will always happen when using the Blue Notes template if there are more than one main menu markers in the video to be produced.  It does not happen if there are one or no main menu markers.  It also does not happen with other menu templates.  I've confirmed this problem on multiple computers even after a fresh install of PE7.
It starts to loop after all the media has been processes right at the beginning of the write to the DVD or directory.
Where can I get a Blue Notes template that works properly?

I don't think a screen capture will help.  The problem happens with any test file that has two main menu markers on it.  This causes the blue notes template to duplicate the main menu with one marker on each.  If it makes a difference, I'm using a 16:9 aspect ratio for the video project.
My Blue Notes _mm template is dated 9/16/08 and is 3,855,333 bytes (same as your 3.765 KB in the explorer view).  This happens with or without any scene menu(s) present.  My guess is a bug in the Blue Note main template.

  • Opening projects that have a DVD menu.

I am unable to re-open projects that contain a DVD menu after I have correctly closed the project. Specifically, I have a series of MPEG videos (saved by Premiere Elements). They all open fine and run welel individually and collectively. I then put a DVD menu in with all the Chapter and Scene menu markers and then saved it and closed the project to come back to it at a later time. When I re-open I get the error "Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere elements to shut down . . ." and the whole program closes.
I have tried this twice with different videos and get the same result. I have never before tried to include a DVD menu in a Premiere 9 project. I have Windwos 7, 32 bit, plenty of memory and disc space, I have tried two different disc drives(both NTFS format) and reinstalled Premiere. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, you have posted to the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, which is a repository for articles on how to do specific things in Premiere. Few general users stop by here, so there will be few, if any, "eyes" on your issue. Maybe our tireless MOD, Steve Grisetti, can move this out to the main forum, where many more users will see your post.
I do not recall anyone else having issues with Opening any Projects, with DVD/BD Menus and navigation. The addition of those elements should not affect the ability to Open such Projects, but in your case, they do. I cannot imagine what is happening to cause those Projects to fail to Open, but maybe others will have similar experiences, and can offer some help. If the post can be moved to the main forum, it stands a greater chance that those users will see it, and can help.
    Good luck,

  • Can you loop video forever as a menu background, but audio only once?

I'm wanting to make a menu that has a video background and plays music as soon as the DVD starts up, but I want the music to stop after it plays through twice and the video to continue to loop.
I know I could do this by setting a loop point, but I don't want the user to have to sit and wait the first time the music plays before they can select a button.
Is there a way to do this?

    ram8kumar wrote:
There are mainly two workflows to set the looping in a motion menu :
    1. If you want to loop the entire video and audio, then there are two ways to do this:
         a)  In the motion tab of the menus properties, set the loop point to 00:00:00:00 and the loop# to the number of times you want the looping.
         b)  Go to the Specify Link dialog box to set the End action of the menu, select the menu as the target link and check the 'Set to loop point' checkbox there.
    2. If you want to loop the video from a specific point in the time, then in the motion tab of the menu, set the loop point to the exact time of the video you want to stat the looping from and set the loop # to number of times you want the looping.
Thanks for the reply, but I don't think either of your solutions will achieve the result I'm wanting.  I want to loop the AUDIO just once (it plays two times after the menu comes up), but I want the VIDEO background to continue to loop forever.  I also want the user to be able to make a menu selection at any time, including right when the menu first appears.
If I set a loop point, it makes the menu unusable until that loop point is reached the first time.
I was thinking I could do this with two menus.  The first menu would have the audio and video and only loop one time, then its end action would send it to another menu that looks exactly like the first, but only has the video looping on it.  The only problem with this solution is that if the user moves their selection to something other than the default button, it will jump back to the default button when it goes to the second menu (or whatever button the "end action" is set to on the first menu).
Would there be a way to have the first menu jump to the identical second menu and stay on whatever button the user currently has highlighted?
    Thanks.

  • Error message while burning "Menu" portion of my project

I just purchased a Lacie external dvd burner today for my mac book. I installed everything correctly, and when I finally figured out how to burn the dvd 3/4 of the way through the "Menu" portion of the download the dvd automatically ejected itself and prompted an error message. " There was an error burning your dvd, and your project was cancelled." Any advice at all? PLEASE!!

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • DVD menu title selection on DVD player with DVD's burn from iDVD

Regarding DVDs burned with iDVD 6.0.3, I have burned multiple DVDs with 6 buttons on the main menu page each of which links to a short film. On the menu screen when I push the right arrow button on the DVD remote not all the menu buttons light up. In addition to pushing the right arrow button on the remote, I have to push the up or down arrow button on the remote (to the DVD player hooked up to the TV) to get to some of the buttons in my DVD menu to be selectable. The buttons are arranged by me in a grid sort of pattern. Is there a way in iDVD I can get all the buttons to be selectable using only the right or left arrow keys on the DVD player remote? Do you understand what I am asking?

    Hi powerbookaid
And welcome to apple discussions. It's actually difficult to find standalone versions on ebay and CL / Apple's FCP and DVDSP. I found them myself but it took me a very long time. Not always something you can do overnight. But if you are very patient something will show up eventually.
If you need something now that works (although I advise caution as in backup your dvd or video_TS first) then consider this app for much less money (donationware):

  • DVD menu in Adobe Premiere

Any one know how to make DVD menu in Adobe Premiere? Only a simple DVD menu is enought.  Really appriciate your help. Thanks

I used the CS2 quick DVD for review projects.  But it is easy to accomplish this in CS3 and even easier in CS4 and CS5 (where you have dynamic link to  Encore).
From Premiere CS4 with your desired sequence active, pick Fiile -> Adobe Dynamic Link -> Send to Encore.
This will open that sequence as a timeline in Encore and will make it first play.  The simplest version is to set the end action of the timeline to "stop," set the transcode (probably the default) to automatic, and it will create a DVD with no menu that plays your movie.
If you want to add a simple menu, take a main (not a submenu) from the library and double click it.  Remove all but one of the buttons.  Link the button to your timeline, right click on the menu and make it "first play," and make the end action of your timeline "return to last menu."
Yes, it can become complicated very quickly, but simple menus should not be too difficult.

  • DVD Menu only shows up after the movie?!?!

    Hey guys
    I'm new to IDVD!
I made a slideshow on Imovie and I hit share it to IDVD, i think pick a menu and hit burn. But when I play the movie in my DVD player, the movie starts right up and then it's not until after the movie is done playing that the DVD Menu comes up.
What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this!?!?
    Thanks!!!

You have inadvertently created what is called an "autoplay" slideshow. That type operates exactly as you described.
You must have dragged you slideshow into the Project icon in Map View. To activate Map View, you click on the left-most of the three icons in the center below the iDVD window. The Project icon is the icon on the top in the Map View. . It states within that icon "Drag content here to automatically play ..."
So, you need to either drag your project from there down to the lower box, or re-do your project by dragging it into the main project area on the theme's main screen. Just do not move it into the Project icon in Map View.

  • PE3 DVD Menu Background video quality

    Hi,
I'm creating a video for DVD and have got a 15 second AVI file I am using for the DVD menu background.
I've added it in the Create DVD section and it all works fine. However, when I view the created DVD the quality of the menu video is horrible. Lots of compression artifacts.
When I look at the VIDEO_TS folder the VOB file for the menu is about 6Mb.
If I create a movie using the same 15 second AVI as the main movie (and no DVD title) then the SAME 15 second AVI becomes a 15Mb VOB file and looks much better.
    a) Why is PE3 using such low quality when compressing video files to use as DVD menu backgrounds?
    b) Is it possible to override it and make it use the same quality it uses for the main movie?
    Many thanks,
    Chris
PS I'm using Premiere Elements 3.02 on Windows XP.

    Hi Steve,
The 15 second DVD menu background AVI was created in Premiere Elements in a separate project. I created some Titles with Motion paths, layered them and then added some music.
I then used File->Export->Movie... to save it as a Microsoft DV AVI which I then imported into the main movie project.
I then selected Create DVD and dragged the movie into the Menu Background place.
The project seems to work fine. The only issue is that the generated VOB for the menu is only 6Mb and very poor quality whereas if I create a DVD from the separate project where I created the 15 second title movie the same movie clip becomes a 15Mb clip (and hence 2-3x the visual quality too).
Note that the rest of the movie is fine. It's just the menu background that appears to have been badly compressed.

  • DVD Menu Transition Effects

I have successfully created a motion graphic DVD menu in AE, which I have rendered to be authored in Encore. The theme is horror/thriller with thriller theme for the BG music. There are two(2) selecitons on the main menu:
    Play Movie         Bonus Features
When the user chooses Play Movie, I would like a transition effect leading to the main video to be played. And maybe a different transition effect when the user selects Bonus Features before getting into the submenu of bonus features.
Can anyone sugguest any resources (e.g., books, manuals, blogs, video resources, courses, etc.) that can provide a tutorial on how to perform the procedure(s) in AE and EN?
Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

The ones I am seeing are not for transitions specifically - quite a few bad links. And the ones I see may be for older versions.

  • DVD Menu play all & chapter selections

I have a client requesting something that he has done with Adobe's DVD authoring system that I don't believe Studio Pro can do, but thought I would put it out there and maybe someone else has figured it out:
He wants 2 menus (MAIN & SUB MENU) - Main would contain +play all+ or +chapter selection+ buttons. +Play all+ button would start from the beginning and play all the way to the end without stopping. +Chapter Selections+ would take you to a SUB MENU where you could select only certain sections...and here is where it's challenging... _but after that specific selection (or chapter) is finished, that it return to the Sub Menu, rather than continuing on playing the rest of the movie._
I have done such projects successfully; running time was short enough that it would allow me to make 2 Tracks. one with no chapter markers that would play all the way to the end, and the other with chapter markers indicating to jump back to a sub menu. Obviously this doubles the amount of data and it is not an option for this 95 minute program.
Am I missing something fundamental? I hope so. Any insight as always is appreciated and I hope that made sense! Thanks again.

    Hi Brittney
I just saw this post and wanted to ask you a question about stories before I set up my project.
I'm a little nervous as my project is 95 mins, has 5 Chapters, and three of these Chapters have Sub Chapters and Sub, Sub Chapters (if that makes sense?). Because the project is so long I need to set up up properly.
I need to be able to either Play All (from start to finish) or go to each Chapter/sub chapter/sub-sub Chapter and come back to the relevant chapter menu each time.
Is stories the way to go with this? I haven't done such a complex project and have always been able to use 2 tracks (a play all and then chapters) .
How do I set this up properly? If I put in all the chapter markers in the FCP timeline and export them out into Compressor and then into DVD SP, is this the best way to go?
How do I then link all my sub chapters, using Story, to come back to the relevant menu, like an end jump?
I hope this makes sense? Cheers and thanks,
    Margie
PS I have DVDSP Version 4.2.1

  • PLEASE HELP ME!!! DVD MENU

Ok, Bare with me I'll try to explain as best as I can.
I want to play the DVD menu to 1 entire song. I changed the menu duration in the preferences to 4min 28 sec... the length of the song. I added my menu video clip from FCP and set it to the same length.
I am using the template (the one with the brush going across the menu). Problem is, even though I changed the duration, and the music and video play to the end, the template still keeps fading in and out after 30 seconds. I just want it to do the intro only once in the beginning and then just freeze.... but it doesn't. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

It's bear with me, not "bare" with me.
Any way the stock templates are set to 30 seconds, and won't play continuously. They all loop at the mark.
You would need to create your own template to run at that length or use the objects and shape etc to create yours in DVDSP.
    Sorry
