  • Additional instruments won't download

I have Lion (10.7.3) and the latest Garage Band (6.0.5). I've had Garage Band installed for a long time.
I went to try it out today, and would like to install the software instruments that (apparently) aren't included on the DVD anymore. When I click on an instrument that isn't installed, it asks if I want to download them via Software Update. I select "download now" and click OK. Software Update opens and, after a very long time, tells me my software is up-to-date.
I've tried resetting ignored updates (I don't have any). I've tried reinstalling Garage Band from the iLife '11 DVD. Nothing seems to change. I still can't download the additional instruments via Software Update.
I also can't find any download reasource on Apple's Support site where I can download them manually. Most software updates can be downloaded as seperate installer, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the additional Garage Band instruments.
    Can any one help?

I was able to fix it. Here's what I eventually did:
Deleted everything that even remotely looked like it belonged to Garage Band: the application, the application support folder, the Garage Band loops in the Library/Audio folder, the software update receipts (both in Library/Reciepts and in /var/db/receipts).
    Restarted the computer.
Reinstalled Garage Band from the iLife '11 DVD.
Upgraded to the latest Garage Band using Software Update.
Open the loops and click to download the additional instruments.
This time, Software update had a "Additional Instruments" upgrade available, and everything seems to have gotten installed.
One warning: Reinstalling Garage Band from the DVD trashed my installation of iPhoto (even though I unchecked iPhoto in the install options). I had to repeat this process with iPhoto (toss the app, reinstall from iLife DVD, upgrade iPhoto in Software Update) before it would work again.

  • Loops and certain instruments won't download properly

The loops won't don't download as well as certain instruments.  Any help?

This is the WMP plugin: np-mswmp , so you have it.
You may be missing a codec to play that content or some extension or security software is blocking that content.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • Cannot download the rest of the loops/instruments

I am trying to download all the optional instruments in garage band and I get the message:
"The Software Instrument or Apple Loop selected is currently being installed.
You have already ignited the installation of additional content for GarageBand via Software Update.  For additional information please open the "Software Update" application."
However when I look at software update all I see is "No Updates Available".  How do I get the rest of the instruments?

Is this a new mac and did GarageBand come preinstalled? Or did you migrate from a different Mac? There may be many reasons for this problem, check the possible causes:
Check, if GarageBand is installed in the "Applications" folder and named GarageBand. Otherwise you cannot update it.
Have you accepted  a preinstalled GarageBand to your AppleID? Sign into to AppStore and check the Purchase Tab. Accept, if necessary.
GarageBand may already have downloaded the loops, but not indexed them. Then you could try to rebuild the Loop Index: Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand
GarageBand may not be able to remember that it updated, because of corrupted preferences, then try HangTime's "oddball" problems fix and delete the preferences:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#oddballprobs
Remember, in Mt. Lion the user library is hidden; you open it best from the Finder's "Go" menu, from the main menu bar:
Go  > Go to folder           then hold down the alt/option key until the library appears in the drop down menu. Select it to open and remove the file Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist
If all fails, try to reinstall GarageBand - move the application to the Trash and download it again from the AppStore.

  • GarageBand '11 won't download additional loops

    Hola,
I have GarageBand '11, running on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The Apple loops have lots of greyed-out loops that need downloading. I click to activate one, it tells me I must download the loop now or later. I click Now, it goes to Software Update which tells me there is nothing left to download because I am completely up to date. I restart GarageBand, and still the loops are missing.
    It's very frustrating!
In my Software Update download history it says the loops have already been downloaded, yet GarageBand still can't see them.
Anybody got any idea what to do?
    Thanks,
    Graham

I just ran into this and managed to solve it, but it was a pain.  Here's my situation:
    New iMac 27 inch
Used Migration Assistant to transfer all user accounts, user files, and applications off of an older (late 2006) iMac that had been upgraded to Snow Leopard and iLife '09
When trying to install the full set of Apple Loops and Software Instruments, I got the infamous "run Software Update but nothing ever downloads" problem.  After doing a lot of looking on these boards and elsewhere, I decided to uninstall GarageBand '11 and reinstall.  Uninstalling GarageBand '11 is a pain too; here's what I did:
Deleted GarageBand from the Applications folder
    Deleted the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand folder
Deleted the /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand folder
Deleted anything related to GarageBand in /Library/Receipts
And everything in ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand (this is optional I think)
I then reinstalled GarageBand from the second install disk that came with my new computer, fired up GarageBand, and downloaded the recommended update.  Finally, I opened up a new Loops project; in the Loops Browser, selected one of the missing loops; got the "run Software Update now or later" dialog, and said "Later"; quit GarageBand.  Finally, I opened Software Update, and lo and behold! the near-mythical GarageBand Loops and SW Instruments update was there, all 1.2 GB of it!
I wish that Apple would come out with a patch for this, but in the meantime, if you're situation is similar to mine (upgraded GarageBand '11), you might try the deinstall / reinstall route and see if it works...

  • Can't install new loops/instruments in GB '08

I went to install iLife 08 on my iBook yesterday. I did a custom install because I didn't want to install all the apps right away. For Garage Band, I noticed that the option for installing additional loops and instruments was grayed out. It would not allow me to even check it.
What's going on? Why can't I install the new loops/instruments that are part of GB '08?

    So, I installed GB 08
Then, I went back to the installer. I can now check the garage band add ons option. Except that I can't check just that. It forces me to check the main garage band install box as well. I assume that means it would re-install GB, just to get those extras??
Also, sounds and jingles still can't be checked. It says there is stuff for GB and iMovie. I can't install iMovie since my G4 ibook won't run it, but I would think I would still be able to get the sounds and jingles to use in GB.

  • IPad app won't download

    iPad app ,won't download suggestions

    Hi IAndrewD,
Several issues have encountered this issue. We've seen it in some of our reviews on the app store and on our support email list ([email protected]). So far, everyone who's contacted us has been able to successfully update after verifying that their network connection was working and restarting the download.
    Please try the following:
    1) Make sure wifi and/or cellular data are turned on
    2) Test to be sure your internet connection is working by opening safari and browsing to a website (like www.adobe.com).
    3)  Single tap the app’s icon on the home screen and it will pause the download. Now go back to the iTunes Apps store, switch to the “Updates” screen and click “Update” to resume the download.
    4) If this doesn't work,  go to Settings -> iTunes & App Stores and tap the Apple ID to sign-out. Restart the iPad, go back to Settings -> iTunes Apps Store and sign-in. Tap the waiting icon to update the app.
I'd also be happy to work with you on our support email alias or by phone if you email [email protected]
    Thank you!

  • I have a download waiting for my new ipod touch, and whenever I press update, on the computer, it says downloading, time remaining  10hrs,however, on my ipod, it doesn't even show up. It syncs, but won't download anything. What to do?

I am having problems with updating and downloading from my mac to my ipod, won't download at all. any advice?

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)

  • My iPhone 5 won't download fron itunes

My iPhone 5 won't download fron itunes. The icons show that they are waiting but no wireless activity is showing. If I reactivate the icons nothing happens. Very Frustrating!

  • IBook won't download and can't delete

I recently downloaded iBooks. Today I downloaded an iBook and it won't download properly, always freezes. I want to delete it but seems you can't because it hasn't downloaded. I deleted the iBooks app but on reinstallation it keeps trying to download the ibook. Help please!

Same thing happened to me!  Flippin' annoying!  I can't get them to download, iTunes won't let me delete them.  But everytime I connect my iPad or iPhone, it pops up and wants to download them.  Then it sits for hours trying to download and nothing happens, except locking up my computer and rendering it completely useless.  I just want to delete the two books out of iTunes permanently but I can't find out how to do it.  I would like some help too!

  • Certain music pieces and apps won't download from my iPod to iTunes on my MacBook

I want to put what is on my iPod on my new MacBook, but certain pieces and apps won't download because my computer isn't authorized (so it will delete it from my iPod if I sync), but when it asks me to authorize it it uses an old Apple ID that doesn't exist anymore and to which I do not have access. Any ideas how to fix this? I just want to be able to sync my iPod with this computer without worrying about losing anything.

  • Help: contacts won't download/sync from Mobile Me to iPhone?

My new iPhone won't download old contacts from MobileMe. It will sync any new contacts or calendar event I add to either the iPhone or Mobile Me, but not the existing ones.
Basically, I bought my first iPhone a couple of days ago. I just followed the prompts and ended up sync'ing it with gmail as well as pulling all the contacts off my old SIM and phone. But I ended up with lots of duplicate contacts. So I set up a Mobile Me account and uploaded all the contacts from the iPhone, no problems. Then I cleaned up all my contacts on Mobile Me, got rid of duplicates etc.
Then I reset my iPhone to clear all data so I could start afresh (I've only had it a day or two so there wasn't much to lose). I thought I would be able to easily pull all the nice, clean contacts down from the cloud. But the only contacts that will sync are new ones, not the old ones.
If I add a contact on Mobile Me, it downloads to the iPhone. If I add a new contact on the iPhone, it uploads to Mobile Me. But the hundreds of old contacts I have amassed over many years and many different mobile phones are stuck in the cloud and won't come down!
All these contacts only ended up on Mobile Me after being sent from my iPhone, so not sure why it won't take them back.
I'm on a PC. I have sync'd the iPhone with iTunes since I reset it. And I have downloaded the latest version of the iPhone OS since I reset the phone. I have tried turning off all sync'ing and then turning it on again - the iPhone asked if I wanted to merge data, I said yes, but it didn't download any of the old contacts.
Obviously sync works, but why won't it get my old contacts?!
The only thing I haven't tried is resetting all sync data - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497. However, how can I back up my Mobile Me data before I erase it? I didn't think my Mobile Me contacts would sync with a PC?

Turn off contacts in MobileMe on the iPhone and choose keep contacts on the iPhone
Connect iPhone to iTunes and enable sync contacts to Windows Address Book or Outlook 2003 or higher. Now there should be a copy of the contact on the computer.
Make sure you have installed and configured the MobileMe control panel on your computer. And set it up to sync contacts. Choose the best copy(Cloud or Computer)for the initial sync(can be from Cloud to computer or computer to cloud).
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/
Once the computer and Cloud have the correct info then slide contacts back to on within the Mail Contacts Calendars on the iPhone and choose replace iPhone with info from the Cloud.
Uncheck Sync Contact with computer within iTunes on Info tab(if you do not then you will get duplicates).

  • HT5622 I downloaded two apps on the App Store and it won't ask my for my Apple ID, so my apps won't download. How do I fix this?

I download two apps on the apps store. And they won't download because my phone won't ask me my Apple ID. Why do I do?

Is this a new Apple iD? If it is, and you have already set it up, then you have two options:
    1.     Temporarily put a Credit Card or Gift Card on the account to download the free app. If you put a credit card, then once you have downloaded the app, you should be able to go into your Account preferences and change the payment option to = None.
    2.     You can download the fee App, and then set up a new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
