Loos connection trougth a firewall between oracle server an client after 10 minutes

hello,
i do loos the connection between oracle server an client, because the firewall is between. The firewall will close non active connections an ports after 10 minutes. Only port of one site is clost after 10 minutes then, other site let the port open.
Shares to the the server do in not loos. Only connection to oracle. What can i do !!!!
Oracleversion ist 8.0.6
OS: Windows NT 4.0 and SP5
Thanks Frank

I had the same problem and I guess you are also hitting the firewall timeout problem... you can enable Oracle DCD (dead connection detection) by setting sqlnet.expire_time in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora appropriately. This solution I got from http://asktom.oracle.com.
I tried setting the expire_time to 50 minutes less than firewall time-out (which is 60 minutes) but it didn't worked, right now i am trying to figure out what else can cause the problem (I am using Oracle connection pool).... but I think above solution may solve your problem

  • Replication between Oracle Server and MS SQL Server

    Hello,
Does anybody know of a well known or reliable software that can do data replication between Oracle Server and Microsoft SQL server.
I suppose I can write my own version using Heterogenous Services in Oracle but I would like to know if such an automated replication between Oracle and SQL is available commercially.
    Thank you.

    Sorry, Aman,

It could be very interesting.Sorry Viacheslav, even I couldn't find anything for the same. I am not sure that it can be done or not, I haven't heard anyone in my contact doing so. The only place where I have seen Streams being used around me is within Oracle db only. May be someone else can help if he/she has done it.

  • Connectivity between Oracle database and client...

    Hi guys,
I was asked to make a connection between oracle client and database via internet so that our clients can access the database from different parts of the country, and the data that is transmitted in the internet does not require security consideration. And I have successfully implemented this.
But later onwards they asked me to structure it in such a way so that clients must be able to select, insert, update and delete data offline, in case there is online connectivity problem.
So my question is, are there any possibilities in oracle to temporarily store data that are available in the oracle database to the client side and then later onwards transfer those datas once the clients are available online. Or are there any other alternative ways...
Additional Information - Client access the database through an application created by VB.
Please do help me on this project.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Asif. You probably should do a cost/risk analysis. Where you are headed might be able to be done (but it will require that the "clients" also have their own copy of the database) but it won't be easy and it certainly won't be cheap, either in initial implementation or in on-going maintenance. The alternative is to take a hard look at your network connections and see if it wouldn't be cheaper/easier to be able to ensure that it is reliable. Remember "the internet" won't break, it is highly redundant. If you have connectivity issues, they will almost certainly be in your own equipment and configurations, so your (your organization) will have the ability to address and fix any issues there.

  • Higher ver of Oracle Client connecting to Lower ver of Oracle Server

    Hi,
Does anyone has tried or know any issues for the above mentioned subject?
    Details are:
    OS: HP-UX
    Oracle Server version: 8.0.4.4.0
    Oracle Client version: 8.1.6 / 8.1.7
    Thank you in advance.

Generally, sort of, Net8 should be backwards compatible... best to comfirm with Oracle though.
But, I'm not sure about that DB version. Wasn't anything less than 8.0.5 plagued with bugs?

I'm assuming you have an oracle database installed on a linux server and need to know how to access it from your desktop machine.
    If so you have choices
    - you could install the oracle client software on your desktop. This would allow you to use sqlplus or any number of other apps to access the database.
    - you could use putty or any number of other free or paid ssh clients to establish a terminal session on the server. From there you could also run sqlplus. The difference is that it would be running on the server whereas in the first scenario it would be running on your desktop. The database itself doesn't care - either way sqlplus is just another client.
using an ssh client to open a session on the server requires you to have an OS account on that server. Using database client tools at your desktop does not require an OS account on the server. As a DBA, I prefer NOT to give you an account on the server.

  • Monitor/capture tcp data between a server and client

    Hi
I am doing a server/client TCP connection between my laptop and another computer running the server program. With my client program I am able to send commands to the server to which it reacts. However I do not know what the commands are (I just press a button in the client GUI and the command is sent), so my initial thought was that, maybe I was able to monitor/capture the strings/bytes/integers commands, which is send over the TCP/IP. There are only these two computers on the network, so no problem in other traffic there. FYI, they are connected with a wireless peer-to-peer connection.
My problem comes from the manufature of the software making a crabby manual, so really the commands in the manual, which I was supposed to send with my own TCP vi, are just impossible to understand, and don't get me started with their support :-)
SO, any suggestions if it is possible to capture what is sent over the TCP when I press a button in my client GUI?

    Hi Matt
I have just tried Wireshark, I get a lot of data, so I just have to use a bit of time figuring out what is what, but good program to monitor the LAN connection also wireless. I can monitor all the packages between the client and server. It looks like there is a bunch of data just from keeping the connection active, but again I have to dig a bit deeper before I can say anymore:-)

    Hi SCMAJA,
another way is to build your own TCP/IP Server with LabView and receive with it the commands send with your client program.
    Mike
    Hi Mike
Yeah I tried that right now using the TCP Communicator - Passive example, unfortunately the connection between the client and server is kept alive using some commands, so the only command I can get to read is the connect command, because the client then refuses the connection because there is no "right" answer/repsonse from the server :-(
    edit:
I just got in touch with the support, and got some of the commands to work. I had to make some crazy command with a header first, then size and last my command, all converted from DEC to HEX.. Not easy to figure out :-)

  • Connection between  oracle 9i server and oracle 9i client

    hi there,
i have installed both oracle 9i server and oracle 9i client in my system.how can i connect these two to have connection between these server and client?
Because i was using only 9i server for creating database and for other purposes.i have not used 9i client yet.
    Please write me the answer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Balu,
If you have the Oracle 9i Client, you can just edit your TNSNAMES.ora file of your client to have a TNS Entry for your new Database & try connecting it. You just need to try TNSPING & ensure that you can reach the Listener.
Are you facing any specific problems ?

    oerr TNS 12203
    12203, 00000, "TNS:unable to connect to destination"
// *Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening.
// This error can also occur because of underlying network or network
    // transport problems.
// *Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct.
// Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which

Check if you see the database server from the client machine, and if listener is running and on which port, check tnsnames.ora on client.

  • Ftp connection in oracle server

    dear all,
    i need some ideas...
Fact: We have an application made by programmers. This app enter a lot of external users through internet browsers. Now the application will have to upload PDF files and save into a directory. This files will be read with UTL_FILE in order to identify the file name.
We were thinking that we have to open an ftp connection (in oracle server) through this application in order to save the pdf files into directory (another server) but this directory will have to connect through NFS to my oracle server.
I think that this could be a potential risk in my oracle server if i open ftp...
can you give me some ideas o antoher ways in order to do that i want ???
    Thanks a lot

    No version number.
    No operating system.
    No hardware platform.

Uploading PDF files from the client to the database server?
Uploading PDF files from the database server to another server in the data center?
    Uploading to the file system?
    Uploading to a BLOB?
What you are doing is totally unclear. But what is most unclear is why you chose to post this in a group named "Database Upgrade." What does this have to do with upgrading?

Oracle software is multi home aware - which means you can install 10 different Oracle products and versions, each in its own unique Oracle Home directory, and switch between and run all 10 different products - even at the same time (assuming sufficient resources on the platform).
You cannot "+consolidate+" different Oracle Homes - it is an unwise thing to do. The Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) has the means to determine when installing a new product, whether or not you have the option to install into an existing Oracle Home.
And with OUI you also have the means to uninstall products in which case you can remove the corresponding Oracle Home from your platform.
Note though that despite multiple homes, certain configuration files will be shared (e.g. +/etc/oratab+ on Unix systems). In such a case you may need to manually update such a configuration file after removing an Oracle Home from your system.
Oracle XE sports its own installer (setup.exe on Windows) - so it does not use OUI. But it is multi-home aware - and can co-exists with other Oracle products in their specific Oracle Homes.

  • How to start oracle database server and client in windows 8

    Hi at all
I'm a new entry in this forum and I'm a beginner with database oracle.
I used always SQL Server as database and it was easy to use after installation.
With SQL Server configuration management program I could to launch the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service and the database server start up!!
With SQL Server management studio I could to launch the client application, then was establishing a connection to the server and all was working fine!
Now, how to work with oracle database?
I installed oracle server and client version 11g R2 on windows 8, but how can I start the server database? .. and how can I start the client application for querying?
    regards in advance.
    P.S.: Sorry for my english.

    SomeoneElse
    thanks for the response.
I setting the service to start manually because otherwise windows is slow to startup.
In particular I have precisely this oracle service on my operating system after installation.
    - ) OracleVssWriterSYSDBA
    - ) OracleDBConsolesysdba
    - ) OracleJobSchedulerSYSDBA
    - ) OracleMTSRecoveryService
    - ) OracleOraDb11g_home1ClrAgent
    - ) OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
    - ) OracleServiceSYSDBA
What are the services that start the server and I have to launch?
What is the client program in menu --> start -- > all program --> Oracle - OraClient 11g home..... that I have to use for querying database?
    thanks.

  • Need info on accessing oracle server on laptop.

We have a laptop that has oracle server and VS2003 website. I want to connect to that laptop on the network with my new laptop to upgrade the website to VS2005. Ive installed the oracle 9i client tools on my new laptop. Not sure where i go or what to do from here.
Anyone know/or can point me to links i can read on how to do the rest of the setup on my new laptop to connect to that other laptops oracle server?

You need an Oracle Networking connection from the client machine to the database machine.
I'll describe the pieces that are involved, you decide what you need.
    1) On the server side, we have a network listener that listens for network connection requests to the Oracle database(s)
    a) The listener gets started either using 'lsnrctl start' or the Windows 'listener' service;
    b) the database instance starts up and registers it's availability to the listener by sending
a message to the listener defined in the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter
    - the default for the parameter is 'null', meaning this host on port 1521
    - the registration can be forced by running the 'ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;' command in sqlplus, or by hard coding an entry in the listener.ora file
    c) the listener will listen on behalf of the computer in it's listener.ora file ... a 'protocol' error often indicates a host name discrepancy here
    d) when it receives a service connection request, the listener will verify the service is available and request a connection of that service. In the database case, often this will result in a separate thread or process being established (aka server process) which will open a separate port, which the listener passes to the client ... the client switches from communicating with the listener to communicating with the server process.
    2) On the client side, the client application uses Oracle Networking to find and connect to the listener above.
Typical connection information information contains 3 pieces:
    - host to contact;
    - port which the listener is monitoring;
    - service to which the listener is to make a connection
The client uses any number of methods to derive that information. Most common with an Oracle software install is the TNSNAMES.ORA file - the app client provides a 'lookup alias' to Oracle Networking, the OraNet looks up that alias (left side of =) in the TNSNAMES.ORA and reads the 3 pieces of info from the right side of the '='.
    Notes:
    0) The listener.ora and tnsnames.ora can be maintained using the 'NETCA' or 'NETMGR' programs.
    1) Each Oracle software install may install a new TNSNAMES.ORA and you could end up with a lot that have different info. Filling out one, does not imply that the alias will be found in a different one.
If you get any 'could not find' messages during connection it might be from maintaining the wrong one.
    2) If the server moves, the tnsnames.ora may be pointing to the wrong host.
