Loose Bumper Fix

Plagued by a loose fitting Bumper? Here's how I fixed mine...
After reading a post on another forum about a guy and a heat gun, I decided to try a similar, but different approach.
I don't have a heat gun, so I borrowed the wifes hair dryer.
1.Remove Bumper from iPhone
2.Place Bumper flat on carpeted surface.(Gives a little "traction" so it doesn't blow away.)
3.Apply heat in a circular motion approx. 4 inches above Bumper for approx. 3 minutes. This may vary, but it's how I did it...
4.Allow Bumper to thoroughly cool.
5.Reinstall Bumper.
Worked great for me. The Bumper is now "snug as a bug in a rug"

JMcC24 thanks for letting me know about this fix of a loose fitting Apple Bumper. It was so frustrating to deal with when I would hold my phone and it would move around in the Bumper and there were even times when the Bumper would start to peel itself off my iPhone 4.
I followed your step by step process using a blow dryer to heat up the Bumper and I actually put in in the fridge directly after to give it a "shock" to help it cool faster. After about 2 minutes I pulled it out of the fridge and put it on my iPhone and....IT WAS SUPER SNUG!
Thanks again for the tip and I really appreciate it! I once again love the feel and look of my iPhone.

  • Please Help me...For loose line fixer

    Hi,
    I just want to try a script for fixing loose lines automatically. My concept is,
    1) Finding the wrod space width.
    2) Depending on the width value, fix desired width value. I know it may vary for each character and fonts.
    3) If finding any over widthed space inside the para, i need to give tracking from value -1 to -10 untill we reached desired width. If not possible retain to zero tracking(original state). We don't need to check this for single line para, so just skip that.
    My client SOP:
    1) H&J values should not changes.
    2) Single line composer alone used
    3) Single line tracking not used.
    4) Positive tracking not allowed
    5) Tracking value should between -1 to -10.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi ,
    My friend gave me a little script to find space width of paragraph.
    //Setting preferences to point and
    //set page rulers to pageOrigin
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    myDoc.viewPreferences.horizontalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.points;
    myDoc.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.points;
    myDoc.viewPreferences.rulerOrigin = RulerOrigin.PAGE_ORIGIN;
    myDoc.zeroPoint = [0, 0];
    var docStories = myDoc.stories;
    for (var st=0; st<docStories.length; st++){
        var paras = docStories[st].paragraphs;
        ClearGrepPreferences();
        for (var p=0; p<paras.length; p++){
            if (paras[p].lines.length>1){
                app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = " ";//Find All spaces in current paragraph
                var spaces = paras[p].findGrep();
                if (spaces.length>0){
                    spaceWidth = spaces[0].endHorizontalOffset-spaces[0].horizontalOffset;//end position - start position gives the width of the space character
                    alert("Paragraph "+(p+1)+" Space Width = "+spaceWidth);
                }//End of if loop lines >1
            }//End  of "p" for loop
        }//End of stories for loop
    function ClearGrepPreferences(){
        app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
        app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
        app.findTextPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING
        app.changeTextPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING
    From this script, i want to find the average space width of entire document (it actually find the space of each para). It will saved in the variable  spaceWidth. Then the script ask user for giving a desired space width. Let say, userSpace. Then it will compare the userSpace with   spaceWidth. If the space Width is more than userSpace value,  then allow tracking from -1 to -10 using FOR loop to get desired value. If it will not get desired then retain the para tracking as zero and skip to next para.
    Am i get any help from this point?
    Advance thanks

  • Why would my SG200-26P loose its fixed ip?

    Hi there.
    I have 4 of these switches that seem to have lost their ips. They were fixed to 192.168.x.6,7,8,9 via the management inteface.
    It seems there was a power outage that reset most of the network. It was for less than 1 hr. Once things powered back up, it seems i can not get back into the switches. We have had a power outage event over the years before, and they came back up just fine.
    We cant ping that ip, or see the switch request DHCP on the network. These are off site, and I am trying to figure out how to get into it.
    We tried to set a secondary address for out nework to include 192.168.1.0 into the lan so IF it is set to .1.254 for some reason, that we can get to it. But i beleive all 4 switches which are on the same lan having the same address would give us conflict to not be able to get in or have a stable connection to them even with the subnet allowing access to .1.254
    Luckily, whatever state they are in, the LAN us up and running which is on a different subnet than .1
    So, must i do a truck roll? Will a reboot possibly help get them back up if they are rebooted 1 by 1?
    The only thing i can think of is that maybe they didnt get DHCP becuase they are connected upstream via their gbic fiber port? Maybe the fiber port isnt ready in time for the DHCP request from the switch?
    Any advice as to how this switch would loose its ip would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Sam

    Hi Sam, it sounds like no one saved the running config to the start up config. Every change made to the switch does not automatically write to a memory. It behaves much like a computer. If a computer reboots with something in RAM, it is gone, it must save to the hard drive to keep coming back.
    The switch is most likely at a factory default state. If the switches connected to a DHCP network, they obtained an address from the DHCP server.
    Once you get back in to them and fix the switches the way you'd like, make sure to click the Save button at the top right and save the running config to start up config and reboot the switch to test it out.

  • Read this after press conference, what do you think?

    Okay here's the deal. Apple had a press conference today, and they have thoroughly addressed the antenna issues or apparently lack of with the iPhone 4, now dubbed as "antennagate".
    Now, I will just throw a "light" breakdown of thoughts on this and also leave the live blog provided by Endgaget down below for you to read for yourself.
     So apple changes the design of the iPhone. It's beautiful. It's suppose to run better and perform better than previous models. But wait, what's this?
    An antenna on the outside of a phone? Wow!
    Guess What?
    Now, people know exactly where the antenna has been placed and can visibly see and can physically touch it on the outside of the phone. They are now aware of it more than with any other phone and can manipulate it by covering it up with their big meaty, greasy, stinky, sweaty, hands.
    Or clean, manicured, dainty hands.
    So they do, as they should be able too.
    Then they watch the signal drop!
    Oh no!
    You see, with other phones, internal antennas have never really been in the publics "eye"  and has escaped the general public knowledge of how cell phones work and can be affected by holding or covering up the antenna area.
    Apple created the first (that I've known of) external antenna that is located in the same place an internal antennas. Therefore causing you to actually grip it while in use.
    What does this mean? Does it actually hurt it's signal more than internal antennas? Has Apple done their homework?
    Ultimately it seems they have. As you should and would expect a multi Billion dollar company who is considered the world over as the best technology company out there. Why wouldn't  they?
    So what's the problem?
    Now I think this report basically says (with out Apple outing their business partner AT&T) that the main issues are within the signal provider, area signal strength. Then there is fact that they basically but a big "X marks the spot" or "cover this up with your hand to make signal worse" area on the phone made aware to everyone when they had their keynote stating that the frame was doubled as an atenna.
    The media doesn't' help either.  As new customers are made and switch over from other companies such as Verizon for the iphone 4, then they come home to read or see this "antennagate" on you tube, they begin to  attribute all their AT&T issues (dropped calls) to the design of the iPhone 4. Yet, studies, actual scientific studies have shown to have better reliability than older models of the iphone.
    Here I think Apple proves this, and one must read between the lines on what they can and cannot say about the business and their relationship with AT&T.
     But, I think they have proven the point they have a great phone for making calls. They have done their homework and yet still had to answer to this media sensation. They had to make some remedy despite that all the testing and statistics about the iphone 4's performance states that there is no antenna issue. That it isn't significantly much different than any other antenna placed out in todays current cell phone market.
    Not to mention the sheep, and Apple haters or competitors who join the fray.
    Does Apple have sheep followers? Sure. But they also have people who for whatever personal or business reasons despise them.
    But, the sheep I refer too, are the people who just hear of, or read one report on this "antenna gate", and do no research for themselves to actually understand the issue or intelligently assess their problems with phone properly. Then they start to raise **** over something that may actually not an issue.
     For example, many people have complained tirelessly over this "death grip" and how they drop calls all the time, only to find out that the whole time it must have been AT&T dropping them because they have been using a bluetooth device or a case around the phone which prevents this issue from coming from the antenna
    Sheep.
    The decision to apply and antenna icon on every phone in the cellular market was made to let consumers rate or judge their signal strength and calling area. 1 bar doesn't mean a call cant be made. just as 5 bars doesn't mean "superduper great signal you'll never drop a call ever ever".
    Many specialists believe that the cell phone market should drop this antenna signal strength meter, because of its subjective nature, and tthe fact hat it doesn't actually work like a "gas tank meter" in a car, nor functions like one.
    Anyone who's ever studied this "signal meter" knows that you can go from full 5 bars to no bars in less than a microsecond with no feasible reason, on any network. It's not about, "my network never drops calls" it's about consistency.
    So why mislead consumers? Why not just have a green light, red light?
    Back to Apple's choices.
    They had to do something, had too. No matter what tests show, statistics, fanboys, haters, or competitors. They had too, without slapping AT&T in the face.
    Enter the Press Conference.
    Below is the blow by blow.
    In the end I feel a bit sorry for how things turned out. Apple looses millions on basically an issue that every company, and carrier has. Block the antenna, loose some signal.
    Call it what you want but they are giving away free cases that costs millions of dollars to Apple, unnecessarily just to cool this thing down.
    To all those who complain I say try this. Just use your phone naturally, don't try to "death Grip" the mother. Just use it and if you get dropped calls, try a case or bluetooth, or a headset, and if you get dropped calls, be open to the fact that it's probable AT&T, or just the nature of cellphones. Not an antenna issue that Nokia, Sony, Apple, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and every other maker faces . . . despite what they say.
    Apple loses, because they  currently are considered to be the king of the hill in the smart phone market (and others for that matter) and they told everyone "HEY! EVERYONE! Our antenna is on the outside, and it's right 'X' here!"
    They Still apologized and gave away millions to make any and everyone happy.
    Had their been and actual Hardware defect, I would have said RECALL. As things sit I think Apple handled things correctly. Had you anyone asked me earlier in the week, I would have scoffed at the idea of a bumper fix. But it's not a fix, there is nothing to fix, it's an act of good faith.
    Maybe it's also a way to get more cases out their so when September rolls around they can have a better call drop ratio to the 3GS.
    After the meeting I couldnt help but think, had I made something that wasn't broken, and people said I'd have to try and fix it, I think that all you would have seen from me would've been the middle finger.
    It's a ish snow ball thrown down hill, and Apple is saying sorry you got hit on the way down but we didn't' toss it.
    Here's something for your trouble.
    Remember you can return it, and Apple is having a "case is sill open" approach and will continue to work on it. As for now, it appears that they really is nothing wrong with your antenna on your iPhone 4.
    Maybe you should start to smile, or go to Verizon?

    Hello everybody.
    I am a would-be Iphone 4 user, which will now surely not become one.
    I did read all the fuss about the antenna, and I did watch the conference, and here is what I think.
    Saying that, even with the issues, “it is still useable”, is in my opinion ridiculous.
    Guys, we’re talking about a 650 € mobile here.
    The Iphone 4 is a top of the line phone. It’s not a 29 € mobile bought at a supermarket.
    And if a 29 € can work as a phone perfectly, I expect that a mobile that costs 20 times that, can at least give me the same functionality that the cheap one gives.
    Yes, the Iphone offers so much more, and that’s the reason why I wanted to buy it (so I am not an Apple naysayer, in fact I really wanted to buy an Iphone, and even defended it in front of friends in discussions), but really I need it first and foremost for work, and I NEED to be able to receive and make phone calls, and can’t afford to have dropped calls in bad reception areas.
    This is an issue ALL smartphones have? To be sincere, I highly doubt that.
    But even if it were, then I would go on with my non-smartphone mobile, until this thing is solved, because seriously, I think before adding in all kinds of gadgets and whatsoever, making sure you can use a phone to make phone calls everywhere without dropping calls should be the priority number 1.
    There is no possible hardware solution? Now, I am not an expert, but if you look at the pictures of the antenna, and without making any particularly intelligent change… why not just rotate the antenna position 180°? So that the black band is on the top right, where nobody holds it, rather than on the bottom left, where most people hold it? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist in my opinion.
    What I think is that we WILL see a hardware solution, in my opinion Apple already knows what needs to be done. But you can’t just change production from one day to the next. Apple has a lot of phones ready yet, and lots are being built, that it can’t just throw away.
    So, until 30 September (or until these models will be dispatched) we’ll get this model with a bumper.
    When the stock will be over, we’ll get a new model with the magical fix.
    Until then… +“if you don’t want an Iphone 4 – don’t buy it”.+
    Smart suggestion mr. Jobs gave, I’ll follow it.
    Have a nice day.

  • Windows 8.1 update and brightness control

    I have a DELL XPS L521X with Windows 8.1 (I had windows 8 some days ago) and I have had two problems:
    1) I did not allow Windows to upgrade to 8.1 and it forced me to do it. It gave me 15 minutes to save progress and do it. I was watching the NBA finals on my computer and it was the only thing I had to watch the game. The installation lasted the whole second
    half the game and I WAS NOT ABLE TO WATCH IT DUE TO THIS, YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW I AM FEELING ABOUT NOT USING WINDOWS EVER AGAIN... How can I prevent it from ever upgrading anything without my consent? I had already turned off updates from Control Panel\System
    and Security\Windows Update but it didn't help.
    2) My brightness control became broken after the 8.1 update. I had to manually pick the older Intel HD 4000 driver to have it working again or else my eyes would stop functioning after such a bright display. I had to switch to the 9.17 driver version from
    September 2012. Where can I get the lastest WORKING version of the driver?
    Please stop making me loose days fixing Windows issues...

    Hi,
    We have set the GP to disable Windows 8.1 update in Windows store, you can check it here:
    How to Disable “Update to Windows 8.1 for Free” Notification in Windows 8 Store?
    http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-update-to-windows-8-1-for-free-notification-in-windows-8-store/
    For your second issue, it's not only related to Windows, but also the driver provider. Microsoft is working together with the device manufacturers and partners to deliver update package and try the best to solve the compatible issue and bring a great improvement
    on user experience. But you know, it will take some time.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Give me an iBreak already!!!!!

    I few points I would like to make in response to the iPhone 4.
    1. I am experiencing reception problems with the iPhone 4 i never experienced with my iPhone 3g.
    2. The 'death grip' is fact not fiction.
    3. I paid a lot of hard earned money for the iPhone 4, it should work as it was intended without the addition of a BUMPER.
    4. Apple SHOULD replace the phone, not offer a plastic band aid that I do not want.
    5. Apple isn't receiving a lot of complaints about reception problems because the iPhone is still in demand.
    6. Steve Jobs, You can't be the media darling and not expect to receive criticism from the media when your wonder product begins to fail. I work in the media, guess what, my iPhone is failing. We are reporting the facts, not trying to tear you down.
    7. If the media criticism is just hype, then why are you spending millions of dollars of your own money to offer a fix? You wouldn't do it unless it was legit.
    8. Yes, I am using my first 30 days to try your bumper fix and OS fix, but I am going to cross the street to check out the Droid. I want to see what it does and compare it to what yours doesn't.

    I have read over each of these points carefully and without bias. My official suggestion to you is if you are not happy with a product you purchased with your own hard earned money, return said product. Use your beloved 3g again and save yourself (and everyone else on this forum) from overblown issues and complaints.
    No one is forcing you to keep the iPhone 4. Get back that hard earned money of yours with Apple's offered full refund. I (and most likely many other people on this forum) have no sympathy for people who complain about a product that they do not like, when they have the option to get all of their money back and forget this all ever happened.

  • How many orders cancelled after conference

    I have two phones on order from apple store placed them a couple of weeks ago.
    I was completely disappointed with Steves press conference. He didn’t answer the questions which needed to be answer why has Iphone 4 got a inferior antenna to other phones and why aren’t they going to fix it. Surely if the bumper fixes the problem by insulating the antenna then they just need to put a thin layer of none conductive film over the aerial? If this was a fault with the design of the phone why don’t all phones suffer the same? There is something fundamentally wrong and I feel it has not been addressed. My worry is I won’t be able to sell either of my phones when/if they finally fix the problem. So I will leave my order in place and accept them but if they happen to show signs of ‘the death grip’ they’re are on their way home back to Apple. Really disappointed I’ve waited for the phones release and put off buying the HTC but looks like MR Jobs is going to leave me no other choice. Most people I know have been waiting for the outcome of press release before complaining/returning their phone now they have been left with no choice but to act as well..............A REALLY DISAPOINTED CUSTOMER

    Apparently you're not paying attention. The iPhone 4 antenna does get better reception then the previous versions and other phones. It's not inferior. I deal with a lot of smart phones here at work and every one of them acts the same when griped a certain way. Because the antenna is visible and you can see the exact spot that causes the problem doesn't make the problem any worse than other phones, it's just more obvious. The only problem is that users can now clearly see one of the reasons for dropped calls that happens with any phone.
    Apple could fix this by putting the antenna back inside the phone. However, the problem they would be fixing is the publics perception that because the antenna is not on the outside of the phone anymore dropped calls must be caused by something else. Then the public would go back to blaming ATT for the dropped calls when in fact it's just part of the physics of how radios work and sometimes don't work.

  • N9 build quality

    Got my N9 a couple of weeks ago. When I apply slight pressure to the phone (i.e. when I hold in in my hand) the device often makes this cracking/squeeking sound that originates from the lower left side of the phone. Is this normal? How is it even possible with the supposed unibody construction method? Should I take my phone in for replacement?

    i have had issues with this on a couple of my n9 devices. usually when some dust or other microbrial...lol...soemthing make it either space out or getting loose.
    i fixed my device from doing that by taking the display off the device, checking the retaining clips to be sure that they were securely glued to the back of the screen, and then take a screen cleaning cloth that is clean and be sure to get the dust and grime from the edge of the unibody case where the display connects to it...and then do the same with the screen.
    place it back together and if it is not a gap issue, the noise should be gone.

  • IPhone 4 bumpers - read this.

    All those iPhone 4 owners that use the bumper should know(this might be old news to some of you) that even the bumper scratches the beautiful polished steel with no dust involved. Don't believe me? Take your bumper off and analyse it, I do really hope that yours is OK. The bumpers(as me and my wife have 1 each) went on the phone in the store after taking the phone out of the box so we can't really say that the phones have been naked at any time.
    So the way I see it the bumper "fixes" the reception problem in some cases but breaks(scratches) the phone....wow! I'm stunned, again!!
    Please let me know if you guys experience the same problem.

    That is a problem I think you'll have to some degree with any highly polished surface.
    Noticed with my 3GS that no matter what you do, some dust and minute grit particles will get between your case and the phone over time It is these nasties that scratch the phone, you might not notice it on other phones that do not have a finish that is as high gloss as the iPhone.
    Slider cases are probably the worst for this as they drag the grit down the phone every time you remove them.

  • IPhone 4 Bluetooth will not pair with Jawbone Icon,  Jawbone 2

    Just got my iPhone today and am more or less thrilled to have it. The only problem (other than the antenna issue, which the bumper fixes beautifully) is that Bluetooth will not pair with any of my Bluetooth devices. When I turn on Bluetooth on the phone and turn on the headset, iPhone says it's "searching.." and "now discoverable" but it never discovers anything, let alone pair up. The Bluetooth on my MacBook recognized the iPhone and I was able to pair them, but no luck on the Jawbones. Sounds like a JB problem, but I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and if there's a fix via the iPhone.

    On the icon, turn it off and hold button down while sliding the power switch on. This should put it in pairing mode. Then go into your i4's bluetooth menu and give it another go. Also, Jawbone has recently updated the firmware for the Icon so you need to load it as well. I have the icon and a Jabra cruiser and both work/paired fine. You may want to try rebooting phone and retrying as well.

  • Review: N97 with Maps 3.1 fail.

    http://www.nokiausers.net/General/Family-Road-Trip-with-Ovi-Maps-3.0-The-Nokia-N97.html

    as i see it, i want a device as its advertised.
    not paying for an additional internet connection over my provider!
    gps should work on its own.
    and the review shows a perfect example for this.
    the review is in some village and in the nature of finland. there is no
    internet access all the way for 300 km. so your phone should work with its
    internal gps only. no car-navigation needs gps for getting a sat fix.
    my n95 and e71 worked without a-gps too. why doesnt the n97?
    another example is my sport. im sitting in a sailplane, gliding in the bavarian alps.
    6000 feet and higher, there is absolutely no internet or network available.
    i want my device logging the flight and giving me exact coordinates and routes with
    altitude and speed over sportstracker (which worked perfect on my other phones!).
    but i cant use the n97 for this.
    i cant make my winch-start depening on the time my n97 gets its first sat fix, i would
    wait for hours down on the ground! and then in the air, i dont want it to loose its fix constantly.
    and to be honest, i dont want to start fiddeling around with this device up in the air, i have to
    concentrate on other things which could be dangerous for me (and others!)
    cheers.

  • Recovery and EFI System Partitions both reading 100% Free after I Factory Reset

    I own a Hp Envy  dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 8 64Bit for about 1 year now. I recently did a Factory Reset, now my Recovery and EFI  Partitions say 100% Free on both partitions. I used the recovery disks I made two days after I purchased computer.

    Hi,
    Is it  "Factory Reset" you mentioned inside Windows(Change PC settings\General\Reset)? After you execute this feature, it would remove all the file in your current system drive and reinstall your system in fact. However it won't make any influence with
    other drive.
    In addition, generally speaking, OEM Recovery and EFI partitions should be hidden, how did you find them 100% free? I'm sorry for your loose, to fix this problem, you may need contact HP support for further assistance.

  • Webcam problems dv7 HP laptop windows 7

    hello i have one thing that is showing when i want to use my web cam,cyberlink cannot connect to your webcam HP truevision laptop dv7 what should i do to fix this problem? its showing when i want to use skype or webcam

    Hi Meg,
    Looks like you keep posting this question... I know it is frustrating when you cannot get a fix for something important.
    Here's the thing:  if the webcam "software" fixes do not solve the problem, then the webcam is not going to respond to software fixes... it might be the little wires that are loose, crushed, disconnected, broken... whatever.  Tiny webcam wires sometimes do not even make it out of the factory in one piece.  Other times the wires and webcam are so tough that the webcam works for years and years.
    I suspect the YouTube fix is a loose wire fix -- you need to take apart your notebook to do it.  You don't want to do that to a new notebook - it will void your warranty.  You do want to do that to an older "no warranty" notebook - it usually fixes the problem.
    If this is a new notebook, then just call HP - make a service report, and get the notebook fixed.  It is painful and it takes a couple of weeks; the repair is covered (cost wise) and once it is completed and you have your notebook back, the webcam will work.  Done.
    Contact HP – USA and Worldwide
    I have lots of HP notebooks -- ONE of which came with a dead webcam.  I had to send it back and have it fixed.  Now, it works.  All the others have worked for years... and years.  It does happen both ways.
    Here is the "Official Everything Webcam" document:

  • MSI P45 Plat Performance bios?

    I see from some sites that there is a bios A7512.10J but can't find it to download anywhere. Anybody know where to download these performance bios? There are a few issues with bios 1.0.

    Quote
    A7512.10J
    The BIOS is actually called A7512IMS.10J.  It is not a special performance BIOS but an early BETA BIOS.  The first officially released BIOS for this board is A7512IMS.100 and it is based on A7512IMS.10J.  If you are using BIOS v1.0 already, there is no point in going back to A7512IMS.10J.  You will loose all fixes/adjustion that came with A7512IMS.100.

    Not sure if this is true but would welcome any suggestions before I send back my 4th E90 in as many months, and get a Samsung.
    I am on the O2 network, this is a brand new E90, sent out to replace my last 3 E90s, got this one on 19th June.
    My firmware version is 7.24.0.3.
    When I have tried to upgrade I am told that this is the latest firmware version, for this phone. I know there are 3 updates to this.
    Problem 1 is I do not have Agps, and cannot download it to this phone.
    2, Satelite fixes takes up to an hour to lock on then keeps loosing the fix.
    3, When I finally do get a lock, and set a route, I am constantly asked to purchase maps, I try and update, and am told it is updating then reverts back to purchase maps again.
    4, If I should happen to get a route and use it for that purpose, the next day I try again I have to go all the way through the same process again. I could walk from Lands to John O,Grotes in the time I have spent trying to get 100 yards down the road.
    On top of these problems I find that I loose signal too many times when talking to anyone on the phone, it is embarassing, to have such a so called top notch phone to keep loosing signal.
    Have been on this morning to Nokia and been told that the firmware is the latest one, I had to tell the operative that there were 3 more updates since.
    His reply was take my phone to Car Phone Warehouse and get it repaired, its an O2 supplied phone.
    O2s responce is to send the phone back and have another replacement.
    Final query, does anyone know if I had to purchase the maps or are they supplied with this phone.
    I have read on this site and other sites that this phone is the best, I dont think so, or is it just me.

    Any phone you get from O2 is going to have its firmware tinkered with by O2. You might save a few pounds on the phone but you end up with a compromised phone. Only way to go is to get a non branded sim free phone. They are noticeably different.
    "Pros and cons of paying more for a sim free phone or paying less for a Network phone on contract.
    It is important to know beforehand that most networks actually modify the phone firmware on their contract phones and sometimes the modifications extend to more then just branding. A lot of issues that would be brought up here would actually be related to such modifications.
    In my opinion Sim free phones are worth that little bit extra because
    1. They have all the options enabled (Some networks disable certain functions such as VOIP on the N95)
    2. You don't have to wait for the networks to approve firmware updates
    3. For some reason they work better and have fewer bugs
    4. No network branding on the phone
    5. Not simlocked"
