Loose connection while only using text chat

I realize there are allready a few threads on just randomly loosing connection, but seem to be fairly technical, and seem to deal with audio and video chats causing the trouble.
Sometimes not for hours but sometimes several times an hour i get that message "Lost connection with AIM, the connection to host unexpectedly lost." I know it does it everytime my computer goes to sleep, so now i set my computer not to go to sleep. After quite a bit of effort I changed my router and computers to static ip address. This helped alot with the entire network connection not being cutoff ( mail, safari) as often as it used to, but iChat still boots me off.
It also looses it connection sometimes and dosnt tell me. Ill be talking talking and realize the person I was talking to's messages havnt been displayed on my screen in like 5 minutes, and they havnt gotten the messages ive been sending. I find it strage that i can be typing and sending messages and iChat dosnt realize the other person isnt getting them.
My soulution to this problem is switch to offline then back to available and viola! it works. But it is socially awkward to not know if the person is not responding or if the messages just are not getting through.
I forwarded ports 5060, 5190, 5220, 5222, 5678, to themselves and 1384 to 16403. That didnt help (Not that I have noticed)
Im beggining to think the solution is go back to using AIM
And I had so much faith in my powerbook when i dropped over $2x10^3 on it.
Any suggestions that dont require alot of networking experience?
Is there any way to keep that dialogue box from poping up to tell me it lost the connection? I can see i lost it from my buddy list, and I hate that one extra mouse move and click to get back to the program (safari did this in panther when you were not connected, and i was so glad that it dosnt in tiger). Is there anyway to make it automatically try to sign back on like the FREE AIM software does?
The other problem related to this is iChat quits responding while trying to sign on. After loosing connection and sometimes when i first start the computer and try to connect the first time I get that spinning color wheel and it dosnt go away. Esc option apple does not work and i have to apple tab to finder then click the apple and select force quit to get it to stop.
Once again I had so much faith in this apple stuff Seems to me it dosnt work that much better than windows.
Thanks alot
Grey
By the way, Just before i submited this i got the connection alert for the second time since i started writing this post. And to submit this post i had to use force quit on iChat, then turn my airport off then on to get it going again.

Im not 100% on the networking vocabulary. Let me clairfy, In my router setting "DHCP server" is disabled. Im not sure if that means between the router and the cable modem or the router and the computers. But i do know that the router's ip is always the same 192.168.1.1
I dont know how to access the settings in the modem.
The only thing i did to change the ports is I forwarded ports 5060, 5190, 5220, 5222, 5678, to themselves and 1384 to 16403 in the router's advanced settings.
Thanks for trying to help me Ralph, sorry if i dont fully understand your questions.

  • Have just found a hickup on the Lion software 10.7.2 When using a access point that you name with letters that is only in Norwegian æøå you will loose connections and only get time out. So the solution will be to rename the access point.

Any solution beside to rename the wifi access point without the spesial Norwegian letters æøå?

Your points match mine pretty well, though here are some thoughts:
    1. I thought about this theory myself this morning (iTunes possibly causing more issues), but I haven't been able to verify it.
    2. When I set up a new user it seemed better for a while, but the issue croppped back up. Yesterday I fully wiped the machine and reinstalled from scratch. I did not reimport my user from TimeMachine, but the problem has come back. My thinking was that I might have some really old software or prefs hanging around causing the issue. No dice.
    3. This is my current theory of the issue, so my next step will be to pull the RAM from Crucial and see how the system behves. IF that doesn't eliminate the problem, I'll pull the factory installed RAM and replace it with the 3rd party RAM. The odd thing is how many people seem to have similar issues - I know two personally, and have seen several posts on forums. I think the most common point for this happening was the 10.7.2 update, which would point to software as the culprit.
    4. That matches my experience.
My hope is that this will be repaired in the forthcoming 10.7.3 release (current production version is 10.7.2), but otuside of what I noted above, I'm at a loss.

  • FieldPoint suddendly looses connection, but only for some seconds

    Hi,
I have a problem with LabVIEW and/or FieldPoint modules. I use the ethernet controller FP-1600, the analog input module FP-AI-110 and the digital output module FP-DO-400.
The controller is connected with the PC via crossover cable.
I have written a VI, which should control an engine with the digital output module and measure some parameters with the analog input module.
For the engine control I use the following cycle:
20 sec load (digital out: channel 0 = true; channel 1 = true)
    5 sec no-load (digital out: channel 0 = true; channel 1 = false)
    2 sec power-off (digital out: channel 0 = false; channel 1 = false)
The VI set automatically the output channels.
With the analog input module I measure continuously (every second) temperature, motor current und the speed.
For the most part the VI works without any problems.
But sometimes the PC looses the connection with the FieldPoint modules. This failure occurs only in the change from “load” to “no-load”. In the other changes I didn’t see this failure yet. During this failure the motor parameters shown on the frontpanel don’t refresh. After 3 – 5 seconds the failure is gone and the VI works fine again.
What could cause such a problem? And what could I do to solve it? Thanks.

I think you had the right idea.
The digital outputs are connected to relays. The first relay switches an electric motor (on/off). The second relay switches a magnetic brake (on/off). This brake is technically comparable with an eddy current brake.
I suppose the high inductivity in the switching moment could cause the described failure.
Now I will try to use a recovery diode to minimize the high inductivity.
Do you think that could be the cause of error?

  • Interruption of Wireless Connection while phone use

I have been experiencing interruptions of wireless connection to my notebooks when we use a 2.4GHz wires phone.
I called the Verizon customer service about this problem, and they guided me through the changes of band channels.
As the service staff told me that the channel 11 is the best channel, we still have the same issue even though the signal
seemed to get stronger before in normal use.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Or should I change the Verizon wireless router?

If it is possible, change the channel of your cordless phone to 1 and wireless router to 11. If the phone doesn't give you this option, I would simply purchase a new phone. Do not go for the 5.8ghz phones because they will transmit 2.4ghz frequencies from phone to base and still interfere. A DECT 6.0 (1.9 ghz) phone is the new type of phones. They are crystal clear and do not interfere with Wireless B/G technology.
    HUH??? Whacha talkin about Willis?
5.8 Ghz phones transmit at 5.8 Ghz, not 2.4. Hence the 5.8Ghz. The only wireless transmission is from the handset to the base and that is the frequency that the phone is rated for. There is no other transmission on the system.
Edit:.  Ok, I did some research and found that SOME 5.8 phones transmit 5.8 from the base to the handset and then 2.4 from the handset to the base. However, Most do not. The ones that do this is to save on battery life of the handset. Most transmit on the 5.8 both directions, but there are some that do use the 2.4 on the return. So you do have to look at the phone before you purchase to see which it is.
As for the problem the thread started on. You've got the reason, the phone and internet work on the same frequency. The channel changes can help but are not a solution. You may find a channel that reduces the drop offs and many people do find that this is an acceptable work around, some even reduce it to the point of it not being an issue anymore. BUT the underlying problem is still there. Every device responds differently to the interference problem. The ONLY solution is to change the phone to one that works on a different frequency. Since the wireless internet cannot change frequencies, changing the phone is the only solution. The other options are all workarounds and bandaids. If your lucky they may help, but if your like me, your not that lucky.

  • IPod Touch 5 can't connect wifi only using WPA2

My daughter has an iPod Touch 5th generation that one day stopped connecting at home to Wifi using WPA2. I use an Actiontec MI424WR Rev I and while her iPod Touch keeps showing the error "incorrect password" I use on the same network with no issues 2 ASUS laptops, 1 Samsung laptop, 1 Dell laptop, 1 iPad 4th gen, 1 iPhone5, 1 iPhone 5c, 1 ipod touch 3, and 1 Android tablet. The most frustrating thing is that at school and other places where no password is needed she can connect. I've tried to use specific channels on the router, as opposed to automatically assigning one, with the same results. The other devices work, while I keep getting the same error for her.
Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Thank you

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Ryan

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

With ios 7 and the iPhone can someone use their phone while also using a text to speech app, such as Speak It or Assistive Chat? These apps are used by people who have difficulty with speech production.
    Thank you.

My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the  iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine.

in your function startChat(), you say
      if (this.netConnection)
                ExternalInterface.call("flashtxtChat_gotNearID", this.netConnection.nearID);
if the netConnection is in the process of connecting and startChat() gets called again, then the netConnection will not be null but will also not be connected.  you can only get the nearID if the netConnection is connected.

  • Text chats drop while video chat

Anyone experiences that text chats drop while you do video chat? In video chat I do not have any problem, but text chats become one way after few minutes of connection. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me why this happen and how to fix it.
    Thank you,

    HI Ksugaya,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
It does seem at the moment that at times the AIM servers get swamped and drop connections.
In Group chats you tend to get many posts arriving altogether without actually being dropped.
In 1-1 chats it is difficult to judge if you have been dropped from the chat as the Buddy list is still active.
There is no real fix for this at the moment.

  • Looking for help for sharing pdf files with ipad from mac.  Pages only recognizes text.  What app should I use for file sharing pdf documents?

Looking for advice on how to share pdf files with iPad from Mac.   Pages seems to only recognize text.   What app is recommended for pdf documents?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
If I understand your question, you want to read pdfs on your iPad, not create or edit.
Drag pdf files to the iPad icon in Finder while connected to your computer via the USB cable.
They will show up in the iBooks application
(If you don't already have iBooks, it's a free download from the App Store.)
Once installed, there are two buttons at the top left of the Bookshelf.
One is Books, the other is Collections.
Tap Collections, and you'll see Books and PDFs.
    Tap PDFs and you're there.

  • Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen.  Full Wifi signal on both devices

Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen.  Full Wifi signal on both devices so can't think what could be causing it to happen. Any suggestions please?

Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.
Here is a link to the other thread I was referring to above:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19952545#19952545
Have you applied the latest firmware updates to your ATV 3's?

  • ICloud Sync Service only uses 3G connection?

Hi everybody, I recently had a problem with the 3G connection of my iPad 2.
The connection suddenly stopped working, and I found out it was due to the SIM card credit gone to zero. I investigated a bit and found (thanks to a traffic monitoring app) that the iCloud Sync Service frequently connects using the 3G connection, therefore consuming the data traffic credit.
This happens even if the iPad is under wireless coverage.
Do you know why this Sync Services seems to only use the 3G connection? Is there any way to make it work via wifi when such a connection is available?
    Thank you in advance.
    Giovanni

when icloud was initially created, sync only worked over wi fi. Reason - back then it was hard for cellular to keep secure connection long enough to authenticate to server and stay connected with secure link for about 1to 2 minutes, Icloud default sync time is not immediate, and the delay is very helpful sometimes( hopefully you will never find out why). Anyway's, it has been a while since and now my cellular is faster then my isp at home. So icloud works. In my case when connected to wi fi or cellular (with exception of back up, photostream). Why you device prefers cellular we can only guess, but just for that purpose I turn off my cellular data as soon as connected to wi fi. My plan is too small. Wifi is practically unlimited. By the way actual icloud sync is transfer of very small files. your contact, calendars and reminders all together may all fit in one megabyte a month.

Do I have to have an active internet connection while using Audition?  Sometimes I will want to take it on my laptop to places where I will be unable to get an internet connection.  Will the program still work in such cases?

As long as you aren't using the Cloud for audio file storage, yes it will. I believe that it may occasionally need to "phone home" to check your credentials if you are using a CC version but only about once a month. It should warn you though I think but providing you have been using it at home in the days before you are away from the internet it should be OK.

I have an ipad also wifi at home. Would is needed to use my wifi connection while not at home?

You can't use your wi-fi connection when not at home. Heck, my wi-fi connection bales out halfway down the back garden.  Many places offer wifi hot-spots. Go google. The only (relatively) surefire way to be able to get on the internet anywhere is to have a 3G capable iPad and corresonding data plan.
