Loose of email connection to company server

I am periodically loosing email connection to company email server on both my iphone and ipad.  Happens randomly.  Reconnection occurs right after.  Have gone thru and deleted email account in settings and re-established to no avail. Any thoughts?

You are allowing slack or losing tightness in your email connection?
are you connected to the server by string?
If you meant you are losing the connection, what troubleshooting have you done?
have you checked with the IT department for outages or if it is a widespread issue?
What kind of Internet connection do you have during these outages-wifi, cellular?

  • Cannot send emails - connection to SMTP server timeout

    I cannot send emails from my Thunderbird. Every time I try, an error message shows up saying that the connection to SMTP server has timed out:
    "Sending of message failed.
    The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.lineone.net timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator."
    I have looked at many different possible solutions and tried them, but nothing seems to be working. I have tried several different ports, failed to send in Safe Mode with Networking and Thunderbird safe mode without add-ons and tried many different settings. I have ensured that the my settings on Thunderbird match the settings that my ISP recommends. My anti-virus software is not affecting it either. Maybe there is something I am missing but I would really appreciate any suggestions!

    Mail provider: lineone
    ISP: BT
    Anti-virus software: AVG
    OS: Windows Vista
    Thunderbird version: 31.5.0

    Firstly, I would suggest reading this support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages
    If that doesn't help, try some of these things (not sorted in any particular order):
    *Test your connection in another network. There might just be some blocked ports in your router or conflict of some sort.
    * Test your smtp settings in another email client (to ensure that they actually work). If it doesn't work, there might be some missmatch with the settings (even though you have ensured that they match), or some restriction by your router or something.
    * Apparently, compacting your thunderbird folders might help with this issue (something to do with too many "deleted", that are still there) - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_Tips_:_Compacting_Folders

  • After installing Leopard I cannot connect onto company server

    After installing Leopard I am unable to connect to our company server. I was able to see the server when I was on tiger. I tried to connect the server manually but it seems I can't even do that. What to do next ? Server connects both PCs and Mac in the office.
    I went into finder preference and click connect to server. I don't see any of our three servers that I saw on tiger. Not sure what to do next.

    The server does not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.

    I wish I was writing with an answer, but all I can really offer is that "I feel your pain". In my case, after upgrading to Leopard, I can see many, but nowhere near all, computers on our network, and there's no obvious explanation for who appears and who doesn't. Worse, I can see the one I most need to see (my administrative assistant) but there is no option to file share through drop boxes or any other mechanism we've found (despite enabling those options in preferences) and the only option listed is to "share screen" -- which is interesting since my assistant's computer is running Tiger, and selecting it on my end fails every time!
    What gives!?! It's tough being the local mac evangelical when s**t like this goes down!

    When reading the specs of the IPhone 3G I was interrested in its capability to connect to VoIP servers. I noticed there are lots of apps around which let it connect to skype like services. In other words: services for which you need an account and you place calls via the Internet.
    This is not what I am looking for.
    What I need is a replacement for the Nokia E series.
    With the Nokia E series I can make a VoIP profile connecting to our company VoIP server. The profile becomes an intergral part in the phones methodes of placing and receiving calls.
    This way I can place and receive calls through our company VoIP server when in range of our Wifi network. When out of range it switches to the network of the telecom provider (like Vodafone).
    Is this posible with Apple IPhone?

    that probably means that you have a password / security issue with your mail account.  options-
    first, chack the account from safari - or a computer, and make sure the id and password still work.  If they do not, then the problem lies with the email provider.  If they do -
    go to settings, mail, and make sure the settings are right.  Sometimes during an ios upgrade, they get mangled up. 
    if necessary, delete the account, and re enter it - paying particular attention to outgoing server name, port, and if asked, reenter your password.

    Are you losing the connection to iTunes on the iPad or the computer? You are saying that iTunes is updated. Of course iTunes is updated when you update the iOS software. That's a no brainer.
    If you mean that iTunes is updated on the computer, that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with downloading and updating apps on the iPad itself so changing the date on the iPad, signing in and out of the stores on the iPad .... Doing any of that on the iPad would have nothing to do with iTunes on your computer.
    If .... you have not been able to connect to the iTunes or app stores at all on the iPad - try this ...
    Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
    If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
    If you can't connect at all - you can also try rebooting your router. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

    Have a Zimbra server at work for my work emails which I also use to recieve my emails on my Iphone. I have been trying to set up for email for our Zimbra server at work on my new Mac Mini's mail. I have server address, User Name, Password, and have tried all the various ways to set it up. On my Iphone 4 it is set up in the mail config as an exchange. I tried to copy the settings my iphone uses and imput them into the mail setup. Every time I have tried POP, IMAP, Exchange I get a message that it cannot connect to the server and I should check my connection to the internet. I kinda had a similar problem setting it up on my Iphone initially. I am starting to think that Apple is lacking when it comes to its native mail app. It has no problem registering my google email but for some unknown reason it wont take my work email through exchange. Really Scratching my head, any ideas?? Thanks again for taking the time to read.

    I have yet to find an email server that does not work with Mail.app. Your solution will be to configure its ports and send/receive protocol according to the email server's requirements.
    Try the Zimbra support forums. I found this excerpt from a relevant post:

    Is this a company email account?  If so you may need to talk their technical support, as there may be additional layers of security which are preventing a connection.

    I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
    I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
    It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

  • Cannot send email with Mail app-..can't connect to AOL server anymore??

    Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need.     I had been asked by ICANN some days ago to do something but I thought it was a scam so ignored it. Most other users I have spoken to have never heard of ICANN or been asked to 'register' with them or whatever. Anyway, post writing to you I have now 'registered' with them . When I now click on my incoming email adress it just says "failed to connect to server" but why it fails I do not know.

    My Yahoo email asks me daily for my email password or says the connection to the server failed.  Is anyone having this problem currently?  I noticed old messages in chat mentioned the same problem.  I get into my Yahoo email fine on my desktop computer for several weeks without re entering a password.  But the IPad does not seem to be connecting daily with Yahoo without putting a password in again. 

    So, I didn't change anything and now it is working better. I still get the odd error though.
    I have a feeling this has something to do with the SSL update Apple released and it was their server side.

    I checked all the settings, the wireless router in my house and at work.
    I have completed a hard reset of the device.
    I had our IT guy at work look at it.

    Since 29/10/2012 my iphone 4s and more recently my ipad 3 will not connect to the server when trying to access my email account.     No. Everything was working fine and then it wasn't. I hadn't changed any settings or switched either one off. When the phone stopped working properly I ignored it because I always have my ipad with me but that just sopped working properly and now I am stuffed. I have tried most solutions suggested on here even wiping the ipad clean and re-booting. I did this exactly the same way as when I first got it but still no joy. The same with the phone.
