Loose Power Cord?

Apple TV up and working great (after some initial syncing issues, resolved by Apple Care), but I noticed the power cord is really loose in the back. My fear is it could come out if anything touches it or the base station even a little bit. This true for anyone else? Is it a defect?

Well, I wound up exchanging the unit, sure that something was amiss. The salesperson and I checked the new unit to make sure I wouldn't have the same problem. We both noted that you need to really push it in hard, but then it is quite secure. So, chances are I just wasn't pushing the cord in hard enough with the original unit (I didn't want to damage anything). Anyway, onward & upward. Thanks for the help.

Qosmio X770-13H loose power cord

Hi!
I recently bought a Qosmio X770-13H, and so far everything has been working great (apart from playing 3D movies, but that's another story). There's a minor/slight annoyance and worry about this laptop, however. The power cord doesn't seem to tighten where it enters the laptop, and it's very easy to wiggle. This leads to the power cord falling out of the laptop very often.
Right now it's not too much of a problem, however in the long run I worry that this will become a huge problem, as this most likely will wear on the socket. Is this a normal flaw with these laptops or is there something wrong with mine?

The Power cord should not be loose when plugged in the laptop. Although i have a different model X770-11C and not your X770-13H , i am pretty sure that it must NOT be loose.
Asked Toshiba in 2 countries and i had the same answer so i give it to you here.
When you plug in the power cord it should be firm and not loose. So in your case you probably have to take it back for a replacement or a fix from your dealer.
Good luck, i don't think it will be hard to fix this.

Loose power cord FIXED

I had this same issue. And there are now over 100 posts on the problem With the slightest movement of the laptop the plug just fell out. I sent the laptop in to HP for a repair but the same problem returned. A new cord might help but the problem turned out to be the poor quality of HP parts. (The wifi card/driver was inferior too).
Here is the best solution. Rather then send HP any more money I tried a fix. I used the CUTTING BLADES on a common plier to VERY LIGHTLY crimp the plug on the power cord about 1/4 inch back from the tip. No need to even leave a mark on the plug, just use very light pressure all around the outer circumferance. Use a press it and test it approach until it holds and stays in the jack. Now the plug FINALLY stays in the jack as it should. You can be assured HP will not issue a recall, so do this. And don't buy HP again.

Loose power cord/plug?

Hi All,
I have a problem with my iMac. I just purchased it brand new about a week ago. And I noticed that when I insert the power plug into the back of the screen it's very loose and wiggly.
I'm not able to start up the entire computer sometimes b/c the plug falls out of place so easily. I can't even turn the screen around w/o the plug losing place.
Nothing seems to be wrong with the plug itself or the prongs...any suggestions on what to do to resolve this issue? It's frustrating!

It may not be all the way in. The flat circle part is supposed to be flush with the back of the iMac. Put one hand on the front near the bottom to hold it steady and try pushing harder. It should feel almost like it snaps in.

2010 Mac Mini power cord loose? and Abode flash player bad??

Just received new 2010 Mac Mini 2 days ago. It looks different and better features than old Mini I had.
I am happy with newer Mini.
Problem: The power cord loose and not good plug in.
Need replace newer the power cord. Who I should contact to or go apple store to replace?
Anyone use Abode Flash Player version into my new Mini because I watch Hulu.com a lot. I read some forum here and bad news about Abode Flash Player. Is true?

Portege M200 - Loose connection in power cord

Hello,
after almost 5 years of heavy use (it has the 3rd battery which is currently begging for replacement...) my M200 is still running fine - excellent device!
However, the power cord has a loose connection for some weeks now. The problem is located directly next to the DC plug. So everytime i connect the M200 to the power supply, i need to turn and bend the cable in order to enable the charging current again. Friend of mine, another M200 bought 2004, exactly the same issue.
Problem: The power cord is fixed to the transformator, and a new Toshiba 15V power supply is quite expensive (if you manage to find one, anyway...). Is there a solution to repair the cable (or get a replacement cable / repair kit) instead of buying a completely new power supply?

Hi mate,
As far as I know there is no repair kit for this problem. You have to buy a new Toshiba AC/DC adaptor because a cable cant be repaired.
I know its so cheap but maybe you can get another compatible AC/DC adaptor from an authorized service provider. A lot of AC/DC adaptors are compatible to different notebooks, so maybe a cheaper one is available.

Is power cord port on laptop suppose to be loose?

not sure if its normal but right when i go this laptop when i took it out the box and pluged the power cord into the laptops power port for the first time it felt loose...i can even shake it while its pluged in cause there so much room for it to move in there

My laptop crashes - i think it's the power cord but i'm not for sure

I have a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite Laptop model # A205-S4707. I bought it brand new in 2008, but I just recently started having this problem. I at first thought it was a problem with the video card because what will happen is the video freezes up and will show different color lines or a black or blue box. I thought the window air conditioning unit by my desk being on may have something to do with it because I started noticing the issue at the beginning of summer when I started using the window AC. The problem would normally happen when it would be loading my programs when I first turn it on, but now it crashes 30 minutes to an hour or maybe 2 hours after I turned it on. I than thought it might be my power cord since there's a couple places in my power cord where the inner wire is exposed, so I taped the areas and plugged it back in and it still crashes, but not as much as it used to. The other day it wanted to crash every time I tried to start my laptop up, and since it would just crash after 2 hours of it being on. And this morning it wanted to crash while loading windows twice when I had it plugged in, but when I unplugged it it's working fine. Something tells me it's the power cord causing the issue - anyone else have any experience with this issue? If so, how can this issue be resolved? I can't go on depending on battery usage because I like leaving my laptop on when I'm asleep (I have it turned off when I'm at work - so it's on probably 15 hours a day). If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. My OS is Windows Vista.

I have an 18-month P305 series Satellite and for a while (approximately 8-9 months ago) I couldn't figure out why my laptop would all of a sudden shut down while everything was working fine, or sometimes it even shut off when I press the power button to turn it on. My laptop was also acting pretty wierd with the Illumination Buttons, they wouldn't respond and froze, wouldn't light up after the computer has turned on and sometimes it won't turn off if the computer's been completely shut down, yes, the lights still stay lit afterward.
Just last week, when I was moving my laptop around to adjust for comfort, the thing shuts down on me again, this time I realized that the ac light had a 'quick' flick and this tells me that there is something wrong with power supply, either DC jack or the cord by the plug. I usually disconnect the battery when I have it plugged in to preserve the life of the cells. So when every time this thing becomes loose, the laptop would shut off. I was actually blaming the problem with bad BIOS and and maybe faulty updated drivers. The other day, I held the wire (by the socket and the fuse) and kind of twist and turn it and sure enough, I lost power, and the ac light flickered. I knew right away that was the problem. I found an identical original OEM power supply on ebay for $15 shipped, received it today and all is well. All this time, the culprit was the power cord.
My advice is to take the battery out and run the power from the AC cord, wiggle and turn the 'wire' slightly by the dc jack, also, test the plug to the DC connecter; hold the barrel (the plug socket to the computer) and wiggle it, if it doesn't shut off then it's the wire and you need a new power supply. Make sure you buy one that is of high quality. I recommend OEM for safety reasons.

If a power cord shorts out, can it affect my Macbook Pro?

I have my 2009 macbook pro 13" plugged in, then suddenly it turns itself off and needs to be restarted using the power button, and when it shuts down, the power cord seems to 'die' too. I think the power cord might be shorting out. Could this be? Could it possibly be a completely unrelated occurrence, where the cord dies and the computer separately spontaneously shuts off (perhaps the battery is dying)? No warning pops up or anything, there is just a tiny 'pop' sound and the screen goes black. I must then use the power button to turn it back on. When I turn the computer back on, the clock is set back to some time in 2000 and wifi is knocked out. But if I put the computer in sleep mode, close the lid, then open it, it reconnects to airport with no problem, and sometimes the light on the power cord will turn back on. I haven't been able to find a similar issue anywhere.
Some more background: the computer, when turned on and for example using Google Chrome and TextEdit, and these 2 applications only, the battery power quickly deteriorates. In addition, whereas the battery used to deteriorate down to the single digit percentages, it now tends to die at about anywhere from 10-30% battery life reading. This is where I am getting the idea my battery may be going bad. This is my 3rd or 4th power cord in 5 years.

This cord has not been wrapped or stored in damaging ways, I always circle it up, never use the little ears to wind the thinner cord on the A/C adaptor block because this has been shown to have problems, plus the cord gets all kinked up. I am as delicate as possible with my cords now because my previous ones have been damaged from wrapping/other technical issues (the first, which came with my Mac in '09, was the old 't' style and frayed from factory defect, the second stopped working after about 2 years so I was told it was probably due to age, the third stopped working spontaneously back in July of this year due to unknown causes, and this newly purchased one has been treated as described above, very delicately, wrapped in loose circles and placed in a padded carrying case). The cord was plugged into a surge protector when the issue occurred, at the home of a friend (not in my own home), when the issue began to occur.
Apple charges $80 for a subpar product that has time and time again failed for various and differing reasons, but they don't change anything because it makes them money when you have to keep buying new power supply cords every 6 months to a year or shorter. I have never had this particular problem where the cord overheats and shuts down my computer. I purchase from Best Buy because I can't afford to wait for 6 weeks while Apple ships new product, nor can I afford to pay extra for shipping. The nearest Apple store is an hour from my house, otherwise I'd go straight there and have my computer and cord diagnosed.
I am pretty sure the computer battery itself is dying, as well, as the unit is 5 years old.
I found it strange that no one else I could find had ever documented this same problem occurring.

Macbook Air 13 shuts down if power cord isn't connect

My new (apr 2012) mb air 13 has randomly started shutting down if the power cord is not connected...At first, it was just randomly shutting down every 5-10mins, rebooting, and then shutting down again. I updated the software, and now - when plug into power - seems to work ok. However, if it is not connected to the power cord, it shuts down almost instantly.
Has anyone had this issue? Can anyone help? Thanks a million to anyone who can through their hat in the ring on this one...

Seems like your battery is on it's last legs.
Or, it could be that there is a loose connection somewhere between the battery and your logic board. This I highly doubt since you're getting a "Service Battery" notice.
To be sure, take it to the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Dealer/Service Center to be sure.
Click on the apple logo on your top left corner, about this mac, more info, system report and under power, see what it says about your battery.
You'll then know if your battery is dead.

10th power cord has shorted out. Is this computer fixable?

This PB G4 15" is still working very well. The only problem is this power cord situation. After the 10th power plug, I duck taped the housing to the laptop so that it would not wiggle loose and make the small fizzle it has done when the cord is not making connection. Was working for a little over a week, and now, despite the sturdy duck tape housing I made, the battery is no longer charging. I fear I have fried yet another power cord. Is it worth taking it to a repair to replace this bad connection?

If you are taking as good care as I suggest there, it says either your power supply inside the machine is bad, or outside, because having multiple cords fail the same way is unlikely unless there is some bad external influence.
Be sure your electrician certifies your power port on your wall as safe for the amount of energy the machine needs. Use an APC surge protector if not. While they may not 100% protect you against lightning, at least they'll give your machine the regular current it needs.

Retractable power cord?

Good news: My department just gave me a 15" G4 Powerbook! Yay!
Bad news: They're taking away my iMac, so now I have to lug the laptop anywhere I want to get work done, including my office.
I'm trying to save space in my backpack - does anyone make a retractable power cord for the powerbook? The one it comes with is so bulky and hard to keep organized. I'd also take suggestions for laptop sleeves (not bags) that come with additional compartments for the power cord and maybe even a mouse. It's just really annoying having so much loose stuff at the bottom of my backpack.

The power cord keeps falling of my MacBook Pro?

I love my new MacBook Pro but the power cord keeps falling off and it's driving me a little crazy. It's already been replaced once so that's not the problem. If anyone has any suggestions, besides duct tape, please let me know?

Denise, the new magsafe 2 has a weaker neodymium magnet, its designed that way.
formerly too many people in coffee shops etc etc were getting their macbooks yanked to the floor on accident.
Its new design is weaker for good reason.
if it keeps coming loose youre using if your lap or in bed,...sitting on a flat surface that woudlnt happen.

Power cord cable

I've notice that at the Apple store i visited, that most iPads on display had the power cables exposed or the cable about to break. I've had that problem w other power cables, and is usually at the end of the cable where it meets w the attachment that goes into the unit. Perhaps is the abuse that these display units take, but if that is any indication, Apple should consider a solution for the power cables attachments.

I have multiple iPod/iPhone cables-all of them in near perfect condition after a couple years use.
If you use the bottom part of the connector(white plastic part) to pull the connector loose instead of yanking on the cable part(as you should for any cable or power cord) they last just fine.

Tripped on my power cord....

I have tripped on my cord once or twice now. Between that and my kids, i can't tell if my plug is getting loose or not. How much "wiggle" do you have in your plug when it's plugged in (the computer end)?

I have a little play. It seems as the computer ages it increases in play, but as soon as you need to turn the cord till the light comes on means its on the way out and the ring on the power cord is loosing connection. at least thats what happened to me and I had to get a new power block.
