Loose screen?

I have a slightly old Macbook (2008/09) that looks like the Macbook pro. Lately I've noticed that the screen is loose and wiggles baack and forth when I move my computer. Is there any way this can be fixed? aditionally, it takes about 4 hours to fully charge, but the battery runs out within only a few hours (normally about 1.5-2 hours) is there anything I can do about this? do i need a new battery? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks! I tried to reset the SMC, but that didn't do much.
Here's the other info, i'm not necesarily comfortable putting on my serial number, so i'm just putting the rest

  • How to fix a loose screen

The screen of my PowerBook has a small amount of play (about 3/4") in its forward and back movement when in the open position. Is there a why that I can fix this on my own? Thank you for your help.

    Dear Bennyb,
I had a "loose screen" due to a broken hinge. I glued it to the center bar only
with marine epoxy back and front. This bought me another 6 months. If you want details for fixing it the proper way try:

    Good luck

  • TS2948 13" New Air with a Loose Screen

I have a brand new 13" air that moves on its own past 100 degrees of tilt.  This is very annoying and the machine is two weeks old. Does anyone else have a new 13" Air with a loose screen?  Is this a repairable problem?

Is it in your lap when it moves? If so then normal
moves on its own on a flat solid surface?   not normal
As per Apple.com, the video above doesnt fall within this parameter:
Learn what you can do if you experience one or more of these issues with the hinges on your MacBook Air.
    Unable to close lid completely.
Broken or cracked plastic near one or both of the hinges.
More than one inch (2.54cm) of free play while opening or closing the lid.
Lid falls freely into closed position from a 30-degree open position. (From a closed position, open the lid approximately 30 degrees and let go.)
    END from Apple.com
The hinge  in the macbook AIR hinge, a friction hinge.
Due to the thin nature of the LCD backlit LED monitor on the Air, you would NOT WANT a very tight hinge.
Why? Excessive hinge resistance would cause the screen to BOW (and possibly crack), especially on a longer fulcrum from the hinge in the case of the 13" screen...... Ergo it is designed logically to be “looser than” a traditional macbook Pro's hinges for a very good reason.
Friction Hinge: A device with torque between two parts on a common axis.
A friction hinge is also commonly known as a:
Constant Torque Hinge, Position Hinge, Clutch, Torque Hinge, or Detent Hinge.
    Common Applications include:
Laptop computers; lids, doors and enclosures; positioning device for controls, monitors, arms, seat rests
Contact Apple for in shop diagnostic
Ive owned 3 Airs, some of the friction hinges are a hair tighter than others, but nearly all (never seen one that wouldnt) WILL IF you lift them up when at a 90 degree angle, ....if you lift up quickly, or tilt it back a bit,...the screen will flop open.
Friction hinge in the AIR see pic below  (there are NO SPRINGS in these kind of hinges)

  • Loose screen on Macbook Pro Retina 15"

    Hey there,
I am curious about something... and I might just being OCD over my super expensive laptop, but my screen is slightly loose on my Macbook Pro Retina 15". If I open the screen, I can slightly jiggle it on the right side, and it seems to be loose where the screen attaches to the hinge itself. I'm talking a small amount, like 1/4 - 1/2 mm in movement. Does anyone else notice this? It's completely solid at the left hinge.

If concerned, call AppleCare.  Take advantage of your warranty before you lose it.

  • Loose Screen on Macbook Pro with Retina Display

I ordered my Macbook Pro with Retina display on the very day Apple announced the release in 2012; I received it about a month afterwards and I soon noticed that the screen was slightly loose. It did not bother me at the time because it jiggled only slightly, but it has been progressively getting loose to the point where it is really annoying me. I am no longer under Apple Care so I am worried that Apple will charge me an outrageous amount of money for the repair. Does anyone have a prior similar experience to tell me about how much it would cost?

Call your local Apple Store and ask them. Or take it in and they will give you an estimate. Cost depends on what is actually wrong.

  • 17 inch MBP Loose screen verdict

Today I exchanged my 15' MBP with a 17'. I love it! No Whine, and heat is very reasonable. The biggest problem I have is the loose display hinge!
I know a lot of people are talking about this, but I really need to know, hopefully from someone at Apple, if this is by design or something that they will fix in the future!
Holding this laptop at any thing more than 15 degrees causes the screen to fall over and close making it impossible to use on anything other than a flat surface (no more MBP in bed for me!).
For me this is a show stopper. I love the machine and if Apple is going to be replacing the hinges soon I'm willing to keep it and send it for repair when the replacement is available; otherwise I'll just return it.
So, hopefully someone from Apple, is this something that "needs a fix"?
    Cheers,

I receved my 17 inch macbook pro also with a loose hinge. i contacted apple who said i should send it in and wait 3 weeks for a new one. I said i couldn't and could I send it in in august when i was done with my college semester and they told me that the screen could shatter from the loose hinge and I would have to pay for it. I finally convinced them to let me return the one I had after I received the new one. And guess what? the new one also has the same problem! I don't knwo what the solution is but the support guy I dealt with was a total jerk. I had to go back to my salesperson to get any satisfaction and now that the new one has the same problem, I dont' know what I shoudl do.

  • Loose screen on the iphone 6

Does the bottom left corner of the iPhone 6 have a slight give when you press on it? Every other corner seems to be solid except for that one corner.  Is it a manufacturing defect?? service centre taken my phone back for observation and i dont know what they are going to observe in that..i bought this phone on 25th jan 2015....hardly 2 days old set.

I experienced the same issue. Got my first iPhone 6 from the Apple store in Basel about 2 weeks ago. After 2 days the bottom left corner startet to give way just a little bit when pressing, along with some "click" noise. I returned it and got a new one, which after a few days showed a similar problem at the top left corner. I also returned that one and got a new phone from a german retailer. Same problam again, after a few days the top left corner, close to the volume buttons, startet to move just half a milimeter when pressing gently. Very frustrated, I wanted to return that phone today. Luckily I unboxed the "exchange" phone right in the store, because it showed exactly the same problem as my very first one (bottom left corner, but this time with an even loder click). The manager of the store tried to tell me that "all of the iPhone 6s of our staff have that" and basically told me that I am oversensitive. What he wanted me to believe was that this is some sort of "tolerance" to keep the screen moving a little and prevent the glass from scattering due to tension. Yeah right, it's not a bug it's a feature.
I ordered a new phone from Apple just a few minutes ago, and I can't wait to see which corner is loose thsi time. I'm starting to belive this is a general problem with teh new design. 4 phones, bought in 2 different stores in 2 different countries, that's no longer a coincidence to me.
Don't get me wrong, I rally am a big fan of Apple products and proud owner of more thatn one of their devices. But one of the reasons I pay that much money for a phone, is that I want to have a perfect constructed high end phone, which (to me) the new iPhone 6 does not seem te be.

  • What can I do about my loose screen?

Some months ago I got my screen replaced on Macbook Pro and now a few weeks ago it is becoming loose. On the left side of the black bar that connects the screen and the body itself with a tiny bit of force the screen wiggles. Im worried that it could possibly break, and was wondering what to do about it, I am not under warrenty anymore either so the cheapest fix possible is the best option. Thank you.

It's really not something that you want to fool with yourself. You could try ifixit and see if they have tips on replacing the screen but if I were you I'd just bite the bullet and have Apple replace the screen. It could cost up to $500 I would imagine...

  • My replacement iphone 5c has a creaky/loose screen. What do I do?!

  • IPod touch 5th generation loose screen

If an iPod touch 5 screen gets to loose what will happen?

You will eventually be exposing the inside of the iPod to the elements.  Water, debris, etc.  Dont let it get too loose.

  • Loose screen+other problems

Im getting kind of frustrated with apple atm because their products could be better. My Ipod Touch 2nd gen has dirt under the screen and what i believe is a dead pixel(it could just be more dirt idk). Now i was pressing all the corners to see if they are intacted, and i notice i can push one of them down. So i go this isnt right, and being the particular person i am i spazzed out a bit. I would like to know if i could have this fixed at a store, or if i need to get a whole new iPod? If i get a new iPod would i be getting a "new" one or a "refurb". Seeing as im not really interested at all in a refurb(due to experiences with phones) I would like to know what i would be getting. I bought my iPod late Januarary

My iPT also has a bit of give with the glass screen (no dust, though). I can give it a little push to tighten it up and all is fine. I only noticed as I started to notice the iPT clicked when I pressed on it. Not normal, but bearable. I picked up the iPT in Sept. 2008, so it can't be a refurb. I'd rather stick with mine with the minor looseness knowing it has been babied as opposed to getting a +who knows what happened+ refurb, but that's me.

  • Helix keyboard loose, screen jiggles?

Is it normal for the Helix to have some play in the screen/keyboard when docked?
This is how I replicate the issue:
    Dock Helix with its keyboard
Open it to normal laptop typing position
Grab the top right side of the screen and lift up
Notice that the gap between the screen and the keyboard dock increases on the right side
The gap is only about 1/16th of an inch, so it's minor, but the "jiggle" is very noticeable. It doesn't seem to happen nearly as much on the left side... the left side feels solid.
So is it normal for the right side to be a little loose and jiggle? Whereas the left side feels solid and snug, and doesn't move about?
I found this customer's experience from the TabletPCReview forums:
"I have had 3 of them already and they are all loose and slightly wobbly back and forth when docked. The right side is worse on all of them. I have looked at about 10 others and all the same. Just the way they are manufactured. It is kind of annoying to me, but I will learn to live with it. I have an on-site warranty for 3 years so if it continues to loosen up on the right side I will get it replaced. Lenovo is already aware of the issue and hopefully will fix it in some later builds. Keep the one you have because you might end up getting one that is worse."
I don't want to send in my laptop for 5 days just for them to send it back saying it's normal. It's going to be tough to be without the laptop for that amount of time.

Added a GIF of what it looks like. This makes it look more severe since it's a closeup, but you get the idea! (sorry if it's slow to load).

  • IPad (3rd gen) loosing screen response while in media shared movie

    iPad 3rd Gen - iOS6
    Native Videos App
    Home Sharing Videos
    iTunes 11
Mac Mini - Late 2006 - Snow Leopard
When using the videos app on my iPad to watch movies that are stored on my MacMini (same network) there are some occasions where at a random point of a movie (usually about 5 minutes in) I loose the ability to touch the screen… the home button still works but for some reason the video still plays even though the videos app is no longer in the foreground. To make matters even more confusing I can double press the home button and "kill" the videos app… which usually does just that. But I can still hear the audio of the movie playing over the internal speaker. I can kill every application running and the videos still won't quit and screen touch won't work while the videos app is loaded. The only way to get the video to stop playing is to turn off the wifi and let the buffer run out.
I'll try and get a video of it, as this does sound confusing… especially if others haven't experienced it. It really only started acting up in iOS6. Any ideas?

Issue still the same even after iTunes making its own 'version for iPad/Apple TV'

  • T410 looses screen resolution after awaking from sleep?

I have all up to date drives installed from lenovo Update utility. When my laptop comes out of sleep the screen reolution get lost and then to restore it back I just have to right click onmy desktop and click Nvidia control panel to restore back. Anyone has idear how this strange issue can be fixed? Thanks.

For anyone who wants to find the right Apple Mac screen that does not flicker, good Luck! The early Mac Books Pro's, had some screens made by two different manufactures.
Go into Terminal on your Mac. If the code
starts with "LP" you have an LG screen
if they start with "LSN" you have a samsung screen.
LG seems to be the problem? Samsung was so much better. Well for me anyway.  Cant use modern macs and old macs......only a 2008 so far!
Try filming the screens on a slow shutter speed and watch the flicker, they all move at different speeds.
Some early ones don't really show up! : )  ( Samsung screen )
    Ref below.
I look forward to Apple admitting the problem and fixing it.....Flicker free please.
