Loose wifi when adding a networking device to my Fios Actiontec router

Ok so here's the story:
I switched to FIOS from another company recently. So far so good. I have a main hard wired desktop and 2 laptops w/wifi. All runon Window Vista
Starting about 2 weeks, ago, I coudn't connect wiressly anymore. I tried everything (re-booting, re-installing, etc etc, you name it). All I would get was "Local Access Only" (on all 3 computers) when trying to go wireless.
I spent a good while with a VZ tech on chat and in the end, he decided it was best to send me a new router.
The new router arrived today. And go figure, that was not the issue. I connect everything as instructed and still would have no wi-fi.
So..after much thought, I decided to unplug my Aruba Networks device from the router. It's one of those devices used to download data from a hand held computer like the one's UPS drivers use: http://www.arubanetworks.com/
AND! now it works like a char, wi-fi back on, on all 3 computers, fast, no problem.
I a assuming that there's some sort of networking/IP/whatever conflict between the Aruba controller and the router. Problem is, my boyfriend really needs it connected and I really need my wi-fi. So...any idea how I would go about adding this device to the router without causing any conflicts to my network?
THANKS!
Alex

Has your boyfriend rerun the provisioning process since you switched to FIOS?
There is a quickstart guide here:
http://community.arubanetworks.com/aruba/attachments/aruba/unified-wired-wireless-access/23814/1/RAP...
That quickstart doesn't give any information on how the RAP-2WG interfaces with a local LAN.
You're probably going to have to get you boyfriend's IT department involved.
My guess is that the Aruba device is trying to "own" the 192.168.1.x subnet, which is what the FIOS router uses.

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

  • Settings for fios actiontec router using coax when adding time capsule as ac router

I would like to set up my new time capsule as my main wireless router on a fios coax-wan internet that is currently using the m1424wr revisiion I router.
What are the settings i should use for the actiontec versus the time capsule and what is the best way to set it up to take advantage of the AC wireless on the TC without losing set top box features providing by the actiontec router over coax?
I got the TC to conenct via WAN to LAN on actiontec but i think that may limit my ability to take advantage of the capabilities of the time capsule.
Any suggestions ont the best set up given I have multiple devices both iOS, OSX and need relaiable coverage of a 3 story town house.
    Thanks!
    Tim

Best setup is to bridge the TC.. which I think is how you set it up.
I got the TC to conenct via WAN to LAN on actiontec but i think that may limit my ability to take advantage of the capabilities of the time capsule.
You do miss the guest wireless network and BTMM on the TC itself... but otherwise it is the best for everything else.
Tell us if you need these functions.
To cover a 3 storey town house a single wireless router is not going to be adequate.. if you can place the TC on a different floor to the modem that could be very helpful, with ethernet to link the two.
Otherwise you need an Express or two so the coverage can be extended.

  • WiFi problems after changing from WEP to WPA on Actiontec router

I need some help/advice--I've searched the forums but am not seeing my exact problem described so decided to describe it to see if the community can help me figure out what to do now. The situation is this: After recently learning about the insecurity of WEP "security" I decided to change the security settings on our Fios router (an Actiontec MI424WR, Rev C). I first tried to change the settings to WPA2, but then my husband's elderly Dell laptop could not connect, so I changed them to WPA. At first everything seemed fine--we could connect to the internet from our computers (my MacBook Pro, his Dell, and various devices--phones, kindle, iPad).
But we soon noticed some strange problems that I was never able to resolve:
I could never get either of two Airport Expresses to connect to the network, even after repeated tries (with hard resets in between)
Within an hour or two after rebooting the router, I was no longer able to connect wirelessly to a NAS device that is connected to the router via an ethernet cable--I could no longer even see it in the Mac finder. I could see it in Windows Explorer from the Dell but could not connect.
Similarly, I lost contact with a Sonos bridge unit that is also connected to the router via an ethernet cable. In this case the loss of contact was sporadic--various devices that connect over WiFi to the bridge could sometimes see it, sometimes not.
Resetting the router would temporarily restore wireless access to the devices hardwired to the router, but I would always lose the NAS device completely after an hour or two and the Sonos bridge sporadically. The computers and devices, however, had no problems connecting to the router itself and from there to the internet.
I finally gave up and returned the security to WEP, and now everything is fine: the Airport Expresses connect, the NAS remains available, and the connection to the Sonos bridge over WiFi is robust (the Sonosnet mesh, if anyone is wondering, was never affected).
I can't understand why switching to WPA caused such problems, but it clearly did, since switching back to WEP eliminated them completely. The simplest explanation is that there is some problem with the wifi portion of the rev C router that only becomes apparent in certain circumstances, though it seems weird that both wired peripherals and wireless airport expresses were affected.
Whatever the causes of the problem, now I'm back to wondering how to improve the security of my network. Should I:
See if I can convince Verizon to replace the modem with a newer version? We have had this one for more than 4 years, since we first got fios.
Just go ahead and purchase the most recent version of the Actiontec router (rev G)? It's only about $115--worth it to me if I can use WPA with it.
Buy our own wireless router, perhaps an Airport Extreme, and turn off the wireless on the Actiontec.
Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy, and I really don't like feeling as if the network is vulnerable, especially given how extensively we use it.
    Becky

This doesn't sound too uncommon. I had similar issues in the past with some networks I've worked with that were resolved by moving the router actually to WPA2 or by updating the firmware. The ActionTec MI424WR Rev. F, G, and I require the use of WPA2 since they have Wireless N radios in them so WPA wouldn't be of much use. My old Linksys WRT54GX also had similar issues, but that was a result of the Wireless Radio dying along with a mix of newer hardware not playing nice with the old, no-longer-supported firmware. I retired that router, only to bring it back into service as a Wired router at a friend's home (shutting off Wireless and setting up another as an AP) which replaced an old BEFSX41 which didn't have enough power to handle his Cable connection.
Besides a few software bugs at play somewhere, there isn't much that could cause the wireless to slowly stop working like that. I would suggest moving back to WPA2. For the older Dell laptop if it's running Windows XP, make sure at least Service Pack 3 is installed if it hasn't been getting updated. Also, check for updated drivers for the Wireless card since they may be needed as well. A bit of searching on the Wireless card should also indicate whether or not it supports WPA2 encryption. Anything from the mid-2000s should support it.

  • No WiFi when Mobile phone Network down

My home WiFi - BT Infinity, works fine when I have a mobile phone signal but should I have a very poor signal or none then I am unable to log on to WiFi. In other words when I need it the most it doesn't work. For example I am with 3 and this morning the 3 Network in my area went down, no problem I thought and switched on my 3 App which allows calls and texts via my WiFi connection. It wouldn't connect to my WiFi due to me having no mobile phone network? The same thing happened a few months ago when I was on Vodafone and had a poor signal. I was in a local cafe and so asked for their password and tried to logon to their WiFi: it took about 10 attempts due to the "quality of the internet connection"?
Is this anything to do with BT or is it my Samsung Galaxy S3?  I can't see it being the mobile phone provider as it has happened with 2 different ones.
    Many thanks

Your home wireless connection has nothing to do with a mobile phone signal or the 3 Network.
Your home BT Infinity wireless connection should show up on your phone wireless connections as something similar to BTHomehub5-xxxx and to connect to it you need to use the wireless passkey that is on the label on the Homehub.
If you are using an app to try and connect to your wireless connection it may be that you have a problem with either the app or the phone or you are not using/connecting them correctly.
Have a look at this link how to conect your phone to your BTHomehub

  • X201 Keeps Dropping Wifi When Using A MiFi Device

I have a Verizon 4G LTE MiFi device that I use with a variety of devices including a couple of Thinkpads and an iPad. I have absolutely no connection issues with the iPad and Thinkpad T500 but when I connect using my X201 (with the Intel 6300 AGN card), it loses the connection to the MiFi device intermittenly. This ONLY happens when using the MiFi. It does not happen when connected to the router at home or at work.
Anyone else experiencing this? What is causing this? What was your solution?

If you are using an Access Connections profile to connect to the MiFi device, make sure that the Advanced Configuration setting (on the second screen of the profile) is set to Maximum Performance (in fact its good idea to check all your profiles and make sure its set to Maximum Performance).

  • How do I prevent my content from being erased when adding a new device to itunes?

I've had my 4s for about a year now and I just got a new windows laptop. I installed itunes and signed in but i dont know how to add my phone to this itunes. I know that normally you just plug your phone into the computer and it does it automatically but I know sometimes doing this will erase the content of the device. • How Do I Manage Device Prioritization on FIOS-BP20P Router?

I am trying to give my devices top bandwidth priority. I’ve read how to do this in several posts, but my router does not appear to support Qos setting. I just fond out about this capabilty and it seems there's no way to utilize it. The directions in the manual aren’t very detailed and don’t appear to match my router. I’m using FIOS Quantum Gateway Model FIOS-BP20P. I use my internet for work. If I can’t keep top priority in bandwidth I’ll have to kick everybody (two other people) off of my Wi-Fi. I’m not looking forward to the dirty looks.

  • Adding Network Devices to ISE?

The documents on this seem unclear.
I am working on a new deployment of ISE and am having difficulties adding the network devices to it.
When I add the first device I have no issues, using the devices ip address (not loopback) and a mask of 192.
When I try to add a second device using its ip address (again not a loopback) and the network mask of 192, I get an error message indicating "given ip subnet overlaps with the exisitng network: device A (example).
My question is this what mask am I suppose to use for the devices I am trying to add to ISE if I do not have loopback addresses?

    Hi,
If you want to add a single device eventhough it is not a loop back just use /32.
You're right, they don't mention anything on the documentatioin.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.0/user_guide/ise10_man_network_devices.html#wp1053234
They do however say look at this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.0/user_guide/ise10_man_network_devices.html#wp1058492
–You can define a specific IP address, or a range with a subnet mask.
–You cannot define two devices with the same specific IP addresses.
–You cannot define two devices with the same IP range. The IP ranges must not overlap either partially or completely.

  • Range expander not displayed in network device list from Router

My range expander seems to be working properly, blue lights, and improved signal in dead zone.  However, I noticed when viewing my network devices from the router settings it did not list anything located at 192.168.1.240.  I was wondering why that would be when the expander is working properly?  Shouldn't the router show it as a connected device?
    Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine doesn't either. I assume because it is set up like the router as a repeater that it is kinda like a "ghost". I know it is there because I can ping it and access it at 192.168.1.240 in the browser. If you want, you can download the LELA network management software. That will pick it up.

  • Network device disappeared

    Hi!
I was adding some network devices to SCOM 2012 R2. One of my network devices appeared as a pending device. Reason: No Response SNMP.
After I added my scom management server to the accepted list on the server I wanted to monitor under the SNMP service it just disappeared from my SCOM management console. I cant find it under pending or Network Devices now.
If I try to run a discover again I cant find the device again, even if I remove the scom management server from the accepted list on the SNMP service. The only way to find the device again is to discover it only using ICMP.

    Hi,
Please check the event log of the Management Server where you assigned discovery to run. If discovery was a success, you will see your network device show up in the Admin console, under Network devices.

  • Unable to connect to Wifi when cellular data is on

As I understand it, I should be able to have both WiFi and Cellular data turned on, and the phone should default to WiFi when a preferred network is in range, and 3G when I'm out of range.
However, when I have cellular data enabled and I attempt to connect to WiFi, it always says "Unable to connect to network".   As soon as I turn off cellular data, it connects right away.   It does this both at home and at work.
If I enable WiFi (and connect) while in range, then enable cellular data, it will end the WiFi connection, but constantly pop up windows asking which network I want to join, only to tell me I can't connect to them when I try.
My workaround has been to turn off 3G and turn on WiFi when I get in range, and do the opposite when I leave, which means I'm doing this 4 times a day.  Annoying to say the least.
Ideas?  I am unable to use a static IP at work (I have seen some fixes using a static IP).

as far as i know there is no fix without using a staic IP however you might want to check with your Service Provider and see if you are eligible for an upgrade

  • Network Device Gotcha

I made a discovery this morning and I thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this.
We made a network device in FCSvr called MacStore3. This was an archive device that pointed to an AFP share called MacStore3 that was on afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3. However, someone who helped us with FCSvr setup told us that when you create network devices in FCSvr, you shouldn't put the server info in the device pane. You should treat it as a locally mounted drive. So instead of putting "afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3/" in the server URL, we were instructed to put it in as a local path with the location of /Volumes/MacStore3.
It worked fine, but one day when the device became unavailable (maybe the server had to restart, or was down for a while) and I tried to archive an asset to the MacStore3 device, I happened to notice that the file didn't make it to the MacStore3 device. I scratched my head and wondered where the file could have gone. I was able to restore the asset with no problems... but where had it archived TO?
Answer - if you have a device that is a network share in actuality (afp://macstorage.local/MacStore3) and you mount that share on the FCSvr machine and assign a FCSvr location to it as a local drive (/Volumes/MacStore3), you better darn well be sure that the FCSvr machine NEVER loses the network connection. If it does, and someone tries to assign an asset to that device or archive to it, FCSvr creates a new directory in the Volumes folder of the machine and puts the new archive or asset there. Then guess what happens when your network share is mounted again... Weirdness. The OS actually assigns a new mount point for it (In my case it was "/Volumes/MacStore3-1") but since my MacStore3 device in FCSvr pointed to /Volumes/MacStore3, nothing actually made it to the network drive, it went into the DIRECTORY that was created in the Volumes folder when the actual network share was offline.
    BE CAREFUL with this.

I'm not sure why they told me that. However, I can see one reason one would deliberately want a network device to be referred to in FCSvr as a local device - when you're dealing with a Contentbase. Contentbases cannot be located on servers - FCSvr will only allow you to refer to a server as a local volume through /Volumes.
Before I made this discovery, I had made four devices as contentbases because they will contain a TON of movies and photographs (They will be libraries of client photos and videos for an asset management system). The media will live on an AFP-connected NAS. I wanted them to be contentbases so my users wouldn't have to worry about duplicate filenames. So I mounted the AFP share on the FCSvr machine's desktop and assigned the device location to /Volumes/Asset Management/Client. That works, but if the Asset Management share becomes unavailable, I have FCSvr putting an Asset Management folder in the Volumes folder, and everything gets screwed up.
I remade the devices as regular filesystems, and forgot about contentbase. I guess I have to just tell my users that they are going to have to be conscious of filenames.
